What connected their destinies was nothing but cruel vengeance. In hopes of winning Edward's love, Flora murdered the woman he loved the most. When anger and the thirst for vengeance clouded his judgment, Edward had Flora's entire family pay the price for his beloved's death, including her adopted sister, Emily. However, much to his surprise, Edward soon found himself deeply attracted to the same woman who was supposed to be his enemy. He started telling himself lies that he only needed her to fulfill his objective, but when he lost her, Edward finally realized just how much he really needed her. As luck would have it, when she appeared in his life again, Emily seemed more appealing to him than she did in the past.

Chapter 1 I'm Not Your Brother-In-Law

The city lights lit up the lonely nightscape.

In the private box of a nightclub was a woman. Her eyes were watery, and her face unusually flushed red.

"Ahhh... It's so hot..." Growing more and more uncomfortable, Emily Mu tried to take her clothes off.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps. Propping herself up on her elbows, she desperately tried to get up from the bed. Unfortunately, she was too weak, and slumped down back on the mattress.

A man walked up to her and raised her chin. "Are you Flora Mu's sister, Emily Mu?"

"You are..." Emily Mu tried her best to open her eyes. The light in the room was dim, and the man's statue-like features looked quite handsome. The expression on his face was cold, and his sharp eyes stared into her face with a ferocity. It was a look that was definitely not the friendly type.

The man leaned over, and the pungent smell of alcohol swept over her nose. His burning breath sprayed on her face. "Well, don't you look so innocent and pure? I guess I'll have to take you to atone for your sister!"

The woman's long black hair fell down the sides of her face, making her look even more beautiful. Her complexion was as smooth as porcelain -- not a single flaw could be seen on her fair skin. Because of the drug she had unknowingly taken, Emily Mu helplessly panted and squirmed around.

"Damn it!" Edward Situ cursed in a low voice.

'How can this woman be so arousing?!'

She was his enemy. By now, he should have been in the middle of torturing her. 'I ordered those people to make her unconscious. Not drug her like... like this!'

Lifting his hand, he gingerly touched her cheek, which in turn made her tremble inexplicably. "I... Why am I here?" she mumbled under her breath.

Her cheeks were pink like peach, and her lips were slightly parted as she took in deep breaths. Above her big eyes were her raised eyebrows, which were knitted together in confusion. It was an understatement to say that Edward Situ was very much interested in this woman.

"Why are you here? Can't you see? We have this room all to ourselves." He smirked. There was no one around who could stop anything from happening.

"It's so...hot. I want..." From the looks of it, Emily Mu couldn't understand what Edward Situ had said to her just now.

There were a lot of things going on in his head at the time. Here was a gorgeous looking woman lying in bed in front of him, as innocent and helpless as a rabbit. From the looks of it, she didn't even seem to realize that she was in danger.

'I know I have a job to do... But why not take advantage of the situation first?'

A cold light flashed across Edward Situ's eyes. He would not let her go so easily!

"It's very hot, isn't it? I'll do what you want now. I'll make you feel comfortable!" He picked her up, walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower head. Cold water rushed out of the shower head and instantly drenched her clothes.

"Ah..." Emily Mu was wet all over, her hair messily matted down on her face. Despite her appearance, she sighed in relief as she suddenly sobered up.

After a while, she looked around her. "Why am I here?" Finally, her eyes laid on the man in front of her.

His eyes, which were framed by his thick brows, were as bright as dark diamonds. A strong, pressing aura exuded from him.

Still in a daze, Emily Mu couldn't help but think how handsome this man was!

Even though she was still out of her wits, she recognized him almost immediately that this man was her sister's fiance.

Which made him her...

Brother-in-law! But now he was alone in the bathroom with her!

"Brother-in-law! What are you doing?" With a blush on her face, she stared at him with her bright eyes. It wasn't until this point that she realized that something was wrong.

"I don't want to be your brother-in-law! And I don't want to marry a murderer!" Edward Situ sneered.

Murderer?

"What are you talking about?" Emily Mu mumbled. Looking around, she was starting to get a bit uneasy. "I want to go home." She bit her lip and was about to take her leave.

However, Edward Situ grabbed her waist, carried her on his shoulder and walked out of the bathroom. His eyes were full of aggressiveness. "Since you're already here, there's no reason why you should go so soon."

"Let me go! What are you doing?!" Emily Mu struggled desperately, but the discrepancy between the strength of a man and that of a woman was too great, and her struggle was in vain.

In one swift movement, Edward Situ threw her on the bed. After regaining her composure, she felt a pair of burning eyes staring directly at her.

She subconsciously grabbed the quilt and covered herself.

Edward Situ walked to the bar counter, took a bottle of Vodka, and drank a few mouthfuls.

"Brother-in-law... Maybe you've been drinking too much." 'Where did this all go wrong?' Emily Mu asked herself.

She remembered that when she was on her way home from work when a car suddenly stopped beside her. Several men dragged her into the car, and then they pressed a cloth against her mouth and nose. At that point she had lost consciousness. When she woke up again, she was already lying here.

What didn't make sense for her was the fact that her brother-in-law was here.

It was even more incomprehensible for her how he could say such things to her earlier.

And from the looks of it, Edward Situ had one too many to drink.

Edward walked over and raised her chin. His eyes were filled with hatred. The strong smell of alcohol wafted into her nose. "What a stupid woman! Remember, my name is Edward Situ, not brother-in-law!"

As soon as he finished speaking, he forcefully pulled away the quilt wrapped around her body. With a pull of his big hand, the clothes that Emily had tried to loosen up earlier had easily slipped away from her body as well.

There were still droplets of water all over her face and body. Her red, supple lips trembled in fear, making her look especially delicate yet pitiful.

A hint of amazement flashed through Edward's eyes.

'Damn it! Am I actually interested in her body? This is an insult to Lucy!' he thought to himself.

"Brother-in-law... No, I mean, Mr. Situ... You can't do this... Please, let me go..." Emily raised her hands and tried to push him away. Her thoughts were such a mess right now. Why would he want to do something like this?

At that moment, Edward caught a whiff of her scent that seemed to trigger some memory of another person. "Lucy..."

For a split second, he had an illusion that his Lucy was back!

As Edward's eyes fluttered shut, Emily saw a golden opportunity. From the corner of her eyes, she saw a bottle of wine that was within her reach. Her eyes narrowed, and without a second thought, she reached out to pick up the bottle and smashed it right on his head.

The bottle didn't break, but it hit Edward's head with a loud and hollow bang. With a livid face, Edward sneered and pounced on her.

"You should feel honored to be on my bed! No woman has ever been so bold!"

Realizing that she had taunted him, her hands started to tremble. "Brother-in-law... I was wrong... Please let me go."

However, no matter how hard she begged him, he couldn't suppress his anger. His hands went over her body mercilessly, his grasp rough and fierce.

"No..." Emily knew by now that this man in front of her was about to tear her into pieces.

"It's too late. There's no way you can get away from this!" Edward said coldly. He took off his tie and subdued her in a blink of an eye.

In an instant, a shadow came over, and Emily's eyes were drowned in despair.

Chapter 2 The Beginning Of The Game

For the rest of the night, Edward lost control and let his body do all the thinking. Emily was just too beautiful and tempting. Perhaps he had overestimated his self-control, or maybe she was just too irresistible. Whatever the reason was, he completely indulged himself in her.

There was no way the young and inexperienced Emily could bear this amount stimulation. After so many hours, Emily fell asleep.

Panting heavily, Edward felt a bit regretful for what had just happened. Despite this, he still had to carry out his plan.

Grabbing his phone, he quickly dialed a number. "Are you ready?" he said as soon as the call went through, his eyes sharp and treacherous.

"Yes, boss. We have informed the reporters," the voice on the phone replied.

Edward took out a photo from his wallet. It was a photo of a woman, who had a smile as warm as the sunshine in spring. He gently rubbed the photo between his fingers. Closing his eyes, he could see her clearly in his head.

"Edward, I'm sorry..." The woman looked at him with a pair of helpless and sad eyes, and finally turned away from him.

The way she turned away from him kept replaying in his mind over and over again, sending a sharp pain in his chest.

Sadness now overtook his eyes as he couldn't bear to reminisce the past. "Lucy," he whispered, "I know there must be a reason for you to leave me all of a sudden."

Emily was awoken by a noise, her eyes slowly fluttering open.

The door suddenly burst open, and a group of reporters rushed in like a pack of hungry hyenas. Most of them had cameras in their hands, the flashes constantly filling the room with short bursts of brilliant light.

"Wh-what's going on?" With her eyes wide open in shock, Emily pulled the blanket closer to her.

The voices of the reporters overlapped with each other as they bombarded Emily and Edward with questions.

"Mr. Situ, is the woman beside you really the daughter of the Mu family?"

"Miss Mu, how long have you been in love with Mr. Situ?" "Mr. Situ, aren't you engaged to the first daughter of the Mu family?"

"Why are you now sleeping with the second daughter of the Mu family? What happened to your engagement?"

Despite all these questions, Edward remained silent.

"Mr. Situ, please say something..."

Edward stayed calm, his face showing no trace of emotion. "I have no comment," he finally said flat out.

Soon, his assistant came. The reporters were shooed away. Meanwhile, Emily was still hiding under the blanket, trembling.

Casting a sidelong glance at her trembling figure, a devilish look flashed in Edward's eyes.

'The game has only begun.'

As Emily walked down the road, her phone suddenly rang. Looking at the screen, she saw that it was her boyfriend calling.

As soon as the phone was connected, his distraught voice came from the other end of the line. "Emily, how could you do something like that? To seduce your own brother-in-law! I can't do this anymore. We need to break up."

Emily felt as if she had been struck by lightning. !

Suddenly, she saw a magazine on the newspaper stall, the headline had Edward's name on it and a full-page photo. Together with him was a woman with her bare back in complete view. At first sight, she was able to recognize herself.

All of a sudden, she understood her boyfriend's call. "John, please! It's not what you think it is," Emily said hurriedly.

"Oh, there's no need to explain," he said bitterly, "Are you going to try and deny that the woman in the cover of every tabloid in the city is not you?"

After saying that, he hung up the phone. Holding the phone in her hand, Emily stood in a daze.

What happened to her last night made her mind in a mess. In just a short amount of time, the incident that happened between her and Edward was now known to the entire city. And now, her own boyfriend was thinking that she was a dirty and despicable woman.

A chill went over her body. There was no way she could go home given the current situation. It was difficult to comprehend how her father would react when he saw today's headlines.

At this moment, her phone rang again. Her heart skipped a beat. It was her sister calling.

Hesitantly, she answered the phone call. "Flora..."

"Where have you been all this time? Dad is in hospital!" Flora Mu roared.

Emily's heart tightened and her phone fell to the ground. Quickly, she took a taxi and went over.

It was not until then that she knew her father, David Mu, was arrested and detained by the police because of a suspected business crime. He was immediately prosecuted by the court.

Nowadays, there was always something shady when it came to business. It depended on who played better business games. Unfortunately, the evidence collected by the Department of Business Crime was very disadvantageous to David Mu. If he lost the case, he would be in prison for half his life.

Irritated by the news, David Mu had a heart attack and fainted on the spot.

The disasters happened to the Mu family one after the other. As soon as the news that David Mu was detained got out, the stocks of the Mu Group immediately plummeted and were quickly pulled out or sold.

Originally, Flora Mu and Edward Situ were about to be engaged, but this was suddenly called off by the Situ family.

This was a common thing -- people were willing to help the successful and the rich while unwilling to reach out to the poor and the weak. The friends who had a close relationship with David Mu in business all cut off their contact with him for a while, disinclined to interfere in the affairs of the Mu family.

Now, David Mu was ill and hospitalized. Lily Zhao had tried every means to help him, but no one was willing to do anything. Before long, the Mu Group was acquired by the MSK International. David Mu was not only facing a lawsuit, but also a huge amount of debt.

After making some inquiries, Lily Zhao knew that it was because Edward, CEO of the MSK International. No one else but he could have warned all the CEOs of City A. If anyone dared to help the Mu family, he would drive them to the ground until there was nothing left to salvage.

The MSK International was so rich and influential that no one dared to get in their way.

It seemed that everyone in the Mu family understood that Edward wanted to destroy their family.

The thing that Emily feared the most still happened. When Flora saw the news about Edward and Emily on the magazine, she couldn't help cursing, "We feed you and clothe you and put a roof over your head! Do you have no sense of debt or decency?! I can't believe you have the audacity to steal my man! Shame on you! You are not a member of this family, Emily!"

Their father had always liked to compare her with Emily ever since she was a child. Emily was better looking and learned everything faster than she did, which was why their father liked her very much.

Flora didn't understand why Emily, the adopted daughter, could get all the good things despite the fact that she was the real daughter of the Mu family.

Lily Zhao, the stepmother of Emily, slapped her in the face. "Little bitch, I didn't expect you to ally with an outsider! You must have revealed your father's criminal evidence and business secrets to him!"

"She's really an ungrateful, stupid little girl, isn't she? Mom?" Flora and Lily worked together and pointed all the blame on Emily.

"Mom, Flora, I didn't betray the Mu family." Tears welled up in her eyes, but she couldn't defend herself.

Just then, Edward appeared. With an evil smirk, he folded his arms across his chest, seeming to enjoy the commotion that was happening. "While you're all fighting there," he said casually, leaning against the wall, "I should probably let you know that I'm planning to take away your house."

Chapter 3 Revenge For Love

The Mu family was in deep distress. If they lost their house, they would be virtually be left with nothing!

In a hurry, Flora rushed to Edward, squeezed out the most dazzling smile she could muster, and gently ran her hand up his arm. "Edward, did I do something wrong? Please tell me," she begged. "I'll make things right, I swear. And please don't break off our engagement, okay?"

It was such a disaster that she found it even hard to register! Their wedding was cancelled, her family was bankrupt, and now her father was being sued in court while he laid gravely ill in bed! It was an understatement to say that the past few days were absolutely devastating for her and her family.

Sneering, Edward roughly pushed her away, making Flora fall to the ground awkwardly.

Edward's eyes were as cold as ice as he stared down at her. "Are you really that forgetful? Or are you just a really good actress? Do you still want to deny everything that has happened?"

"I... I don't understand what you mean," Flora stuttered as she shook her head. All the blood from her face had drained, making her as pale as a sheet.

"You're a murderer," Edward hissed, narrowing his sharp eyes at her. "You killed the woman I love the most. Do you think I would want to marry you after what you did? That I would want to be involved with you?! There's no way you can undo this other than paying with your life!"

Flora was shocked, and the light in her eyes seemed to be taken away in an instant.

Emily was also left aghast.

"Wha... What are you saying? You are mistaken!" Emily couldn't believe what she had just heard. 'Even though Flora is usually a little domineering, she couldn't have done such a thing!'

"So are you saying that none of you were responsible for tampering with Lucy's car that led to her death?" Edward sneered at Flora.

At this, Flora's eyes widened. Taking a deep breath, she tried to compose herself. "I just came up with the idea to cut off her car's brakes. But just when I was about to do that, someone suddenly came. I wasn't able to cut it in the end. I didn't expect that she would really die," she said, enunciating each word as carefully as possible.

"But the reports said that the brakes were cut! How else can you deny this?" Edward snapped back.

Flora rushed to Edward and wrapped her arms around his legs, crying and begging, "Edward, I'm sorry. It's just that I love you so much and I lost my mind for a moment. Please forgive me. I swear that I'll correct my mistakes!"

"Your love makes me sick. I would rather give it to your sister than you!" Edward kicked her away.

Although it was true that Lucy had broken up with him already a couple of days before her accident, he still loved her truly. And then, just a few days after her death, his father had forced him to marry Flora.

In Edward's eyes, there was no one else to blame but her. She was the one responsible for his beloved's death!

That was not all -- Edward had actually hired a private investigator to find out more about what happened. As it turned out, Flora had blackmailed Lucy to leave Edward. And as if that wasn't enough, this woman had even tampered with her car to make sure that she would never return again.

There was nothing more Edward wanted than letting Flora pay the price.

Meanwhile, Flora was now trembling uncontrollably with fear. Lily rushed to her daughter and held her tightly, trying to comfort her. "Look, she didn't do any of that!" Lily cried at Edward, "I was the one who did it! Please, just send me to prison!"

Edward scoffed, "Sending you all to jail would be too easy. I want you to lose everything, and live the life of peasant for the rest of your miserable lives! I highly doubt that David Mu will be able to recover from this. With him gone, the Mu family will be nothing. You two will have nothing but debt on your backs."

"No --" Flora cried out again and again to apologize.

There was nothing worse for Flora than to lose all their pride in a blink of an eye.

They had been enjoying such a comfortable and lavish lifestyle. Now they were going to be no better than beggars at the side of the street, carrying a mountain of debt.

Emily was left in shock at what was happening. Up until now, she had no idea that Flora had done such a thing to Edward.

From the looks of it, she couldn't help but think that he was venting out all his anger on her that fateful night.

'Maybe it was his way of retaliating against Lily and Flora? There's no other reason why he would do such a thing to me,' Emily thought.

He forced her, and then used her to humiliate her sister, Flora. At last, the whole Mu family was in deep trouble.

What a cruel man!

At this point, there was no denying that he had succeeded in humiliating Flora. What was more, there was now a great fear in her heart.

Still, even though Emily was now aware of everything that had happened, she thought that Edward's revenge was still out of place.

It was all too sudden, and she really couldn't believe that her sister would do such a heartless thing.

But the conversation between Flora and Edward just now made her have to face the reality.

The bankruptcy of the Mu family, her father's fatal illness and the lawsuit were like heavy weights that pulled down on her heart.

"Look, my father had nothing to do with this. Can you at least let him go?" Emily voiced out, finally gathering up enough courage to look up at Edward.

"All it fair in war, and business is war. There always has to be a winner and a loser. Quite frankly, your father has done a lot of things as cruel as my own actions," Edward said coldly.

"My father is in poor health. There's no way he would last a day in prison," Emily lowered her head and said, her lean back shivering like a wilted plant that was struggling to survive.

Edward looked away. Although he had finally avenged Lucy, he was not as happy as he imagined himself to be.

"Even if I hadn't swallow the shares of the Mu Group, someone else would have. The best thing you could do now is to hire a good lawyer for him," he replied, ignoring the sadness in Emily's eyes.

Then he turned around and left.

Just when he was about to step out the door, someone grabbed onto his arm. When he turned around, he saw Emily standing behind him, tears in her eyes. "I know that you can do something about this, to not press charges on him. Please let my father go. Please..."

She couldn't think of a better way to save her father except begging him.

"What's in it for me? Perhaps you'd want to continue selling your body... If that's the case, I might reconsider," Edward said with a sneer.

Tears streamed down her face as she forced a bitter smile. How could she be so naive to expect a cold-blooded man like him to be merciful? Her hand shivered and slid down from his sleeve.

Edward left resolutely.

The villa of the Mu family was sealed up. Fortunately, David had an apartment in the western suburbs, which was bought with the first bucket of money he earned years ago. The owner of the apartment was Lily, so it had not yet been seized by the bank.

Lily had almost used up all her own personal money to pay for David's medical expenses. And Emily had also taken out the pocket money she had saved before. But it still wasn't enough. It could only cover all the medical expenses for half a month.

In order to deal with her father's case, Emily had found several lawyers, but all of them kept saying that they could do nothing about it. The hope of being released without charges was slim, and the lawyers all put forward their opinions to let David admit his crime on his own initiative, hoping that the court would handle it with pardon.

After a week, Emily had lost a lot of weight.

Finally, David was transferred from the intensive care unit to the general ward. His face turned much older all of a sudden. "Oh Emily," he breathed tiredly. "This family is about to completely fall apart."
