Chapter 1 The boyfriend

CHAPTER 1

JENNA'S POV

"Seriously?" I stormed into the study, holding up a newspaper.

"If there's anything I won't take, grandpa is you always devising a means to get me married."

I threw the papers across the desk grandpa was sitted on.

"I see this is your new way of saying thank you?" He said. "You are lucky you got to hear about it this time and not run away like a little girl."

He adjusted his glasses as he fixed his gaze at me. Anger? Annoyance? I couldn't read his expression from how he looked.

I looked at grandpa confused trying make sense of what I just heard. Did he say thank you? Was it for always making marriage plans behind my back? Or when he arranged a "board meeting" which by coincidence just happened to be my wedding.

I rolled my eyes. "Of course I'm supposed to be appreciative of all the times you tried to ruin my life."

"If getting married was a means to ruin peoples lives, the whole world would have been a mess by now," he snapped.

I looked down at my shoes, and gritted my teeth. "At least I don't get to end up like mum and dad...." The room fell silent as though I just uttered a forbidden word.

Grandpa's expression fell flat, his gaze turned to me. "You don't know anything about your mum and dad's relationship worked," his voice with a hint of anger.

"You're only trying to hide the truth from me as usual; dad has always being a freak. Mom died! And whose fault was that? My own fucking father.

My heart raced against my chest. I'd never felt this surge of hatred stream through me just at the thought of my father.

Grandpa walked up to me, holding my hands in his. "Jenna, my child. Everything your mom did was solely on her terms." He continued, "Kristen was my favorite, and just like you I made sure to give her all she ever asked for. Your dad was just a manipulative devil who drove her to her death."

"No....if you claim you love her then why didn't you stop them from getting married?" I drew my hand back. "Answer me." "Honey?" Grandpa called softly. I looked up at him. He gave a sad smile and squeezed my shoulder.

"Something's happen which we can't quite control. Your father was a low life, and I curse the day I let your mother get married to him."

"Which is why I decided to get you married myself....to prevent what happened to your mother."

"And the company? Getting married would mean me not paying full attention to the company?"

"It's about time you forget about the business and start to think about raising a family, Jenna." He cried. "I'm to blame for your lack of interest in getting married; I gave you everything you have and now you couldn't care less if a man was in the picture or not."

I glanced around the room refusing to make eye contact. All I could do was stand there like a child getting scolded.

He continued, "I gave you everything you asked for, I groomed you into this self independent businesswoman, I could go on and on, but all I ask of you is this little favor,"

"What.... I'm only trying to say I'm not ready yet." I trailed off. "Getting married is such a big deal and I'm not cut out for it.

"I get it now." He nodded. "I've drawn myself to the conclusion you find attraction not in men, but women," judging eyes stared fiercely at mine.

I felt My face reddened in shame. I clenched onto my dress, feeling repulsed at what grandpa had just said.

What could this old man possibly be thinking? How could he even think of such a thing? Of course I'm not attracted to women and who knows, I can just imagine what the press would say about it when grandpa goes yapping about it.

Business savvy, Jenna after years of marriage pursuit reveals to be attracted to women!! I quivered at the thought of it.

"I'm not a lesbian! I have a fiancé for Christ sake," I shot back angrily. His eyes widened as he jumped up his chair in excitement.

"Are... you serious?" His his eyes sparkled with hope as he waited for my response. "Yes, I am serious." I blurted.

"Why am I just hearing about this now? Why did you keep it a secret from–"

"Because I was scared you won't accept him." I interrupted. Dragging my hand from his as I turned away. "I'm afraid he fits into what you think of dad." I took in his hands again, holding it up against my chest.

"And i didn't want you to disapprove of it so I decided we will go low key and figure out what works best for both of us.

His once gleaming face now turned into a frown. " And what does he do?"

"Well, he manages a company. And I know you've always wanted someone who's wealthy and affluent, but I really love him, please!" I cried.

"I made a vow I'd never let whatever happened to your mom happen to you," he replied grudgingly.

"He's not like that grandpa, I promise you." He pulled me in for a hug. "Okay my child. If you feel this man makes you happy, then I'm happy."

"You're the best!" I hurriedly placed a peck on his cheek, " I love you so much."

I turned to walk out of the study. "Just one thing. I'd like to meet with this man," he announced.

"Be sure to bring him for dinner tomorrow." He waved his hands in dismissal. I walked out of the study, wedging myself against the door as it shut closed behind me.

What If he knows? I thought to myself as I began racing to my room.

I picked up my phone and dialed Cassy's number into it. "Pick up the phone!" I murmured as the phone continued to ring.

"Hey girl, how you been?" "There's no time for all that now cass, I'm in deep shit". I said, as I paced back and forth the room.

"What's wrong hon-" I cut her mid sentence before she could even finish up whatever she was saying.

"How do I get a boyfriend before tomorrow night?"

Chapter 2 Stranger

CHAPTER 2

JENNA'S POV

I laid on my sofa thinking, as the sound of the doorbell jolted me up.

The door pushed open and I already knew who that was.

"Jenna! Gosh. What's going on with you?"

She stared at me confused. A look of concern furrowed her brows. "I mean, one minute I'm seeing over the news you're getting married and next thing the supposed bride to be comes asking on how to get a boyfriend before tomorrow?"

"Cassy, you're not going to understand."

"Have...you been drinking?" She walked up close to me attempting to touch my forehead. "Girl no!" I shot at her, slapping her hand away as I spoke.

"Grandpa set me up again and now I've got no choice than to play this game with him." I continued.

"I told him about my boyfriend and us keeping what we have low key in an attempt to not get married to whoever he has in mind."

"But, you don't have a boyfriend." She said. I rolled my eyes, "thanks for the kind reminder, Cassy " I said sarcastically.

"So.....what do we do about this, your phantom guy huh?" I lifted my gaze to see big wide eyes glaring at me. I jumped back.

"Jesus Christ! Cassy, you scared me," my hands still placed on my chest as I adjusted myself back on the sofa."

The way cassy burst outlaughing like a hyena seemed to lift up the tension I was feeling. She made sure to cheer me out of any bad situation and I loved her for that.

"Tell you what, you just need to find someone good enough to play the part. I mean, men these days don't really care about love. Just wave some money in their face and boom! Your phantom man comes to reality." She said.

"Nice idea, Cass, but where do we find those kinds of men?"

A wide grin carved up on her face. "We go to the club." "Huh?" My brows knitted in confusion.

"Yes, the club." She inched close, dragging me by my arm as we walked to my room.

"Think about it, you get to pick from all the men who're going to be fawning over you tonight."

"Trust me if I were a guy, I'd even bark at your command," we both burst out laughing while I began to ravage my wardrobe.

********

Loud music pulsed through the club as we walked in.

Hundreds of bodies swaying with the rhythm like they were dancing away their problems.

Boy! I don't think I have ever been to a club this full before. I took in a deep breathe.

My eyes caught sight of a figure across the crowded dance floor and I could tell he was staring when he shot a wink at me.

I could feel myself blushing as I shifted my gaze to the bar and I knew just what I needed to do to escape this packed can of sardines, but with humans instead.

"One shot of tequila thank you," I said to the barman while my eyes scanned for Cassy. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if she hooked up with someone already.

Seconds turned to minutes and minutes to hours, still with no sign of Cassy. "Another shot of tequila!" "Ma'am this would be your 10th glass for the evening, sure you'd like more?

"Well I don't think it's in your power to question the lady since she can foot her bills." A husky voice emanated from behind me. It was him.

The man who was gazing at me when I stepped into the club.

He moved the stool closer to me as he sat. My nostrils caught hold of his spicy yet masculine cologne. "Two shots please," he ordered.

I couldn't stop myself from staring at him. His eyes!! Arghh! The prettiest set of almond eyes I've ever seen.

His small pointed nose was brown with freckles and his well defined cheekbones sat above a square concrete jaw.

"I assume you're here alone?" His gaze fixed on me as I sought another shot of tequila.

"Uhh-no. I'm with someone, but she should be around the corner having a threesome or whatever." I rolled my eyes.

He chuckled. "I think sitting here all alone is quite boring. Mind we go for a little dance?"

You don't get to dance with a man this hot everyday and the plus mission of getting a boyfriend before tomorrow already seems like a failure. I thought to myself.

Our bodies brushed against each other as his hands moved along my waist to the rhythm. He inched me closer, as I felt the sound of the music slowly fading away.

I was losing it. I wanted him.

His fingers traced the curve of my hip, his breath hot against my ear as he whispered "You're so beautiful" Shivers ran through my spine as his fingers traced further up cupping a feel of my breast.

"Want to get out of here? He whispered again into my ear. I gave a nod of agreement. We slipped out of the building and found our way to his car.

The journey to wherever we were going couldn't become any shorter. The lust between us grew as each second passed.

The car came to a halt in front of a tall building and I'm guessing his apartment was one amongst the hundreds of windows shining brightly against the night sky. We got into the elevator. His pinned me to the wall as his lips met mine in a hungry kiss.

He explored my body, finding the sensitive spot between my legs. Moving his hands in a thrust motion, I convulsed at his touch.

My moans grow louder with every action. The elevator chimed and he lifted me up. Carrying me to his bedroom.

He didn't need locks cause I saw something like a face scanner or I don't know whatever I saw.

I yearned for something else The carpet was silent against the sound of his footsteps He laid me on the bed stripping me bare.

Hot kisses fell on my breast while his hands were groping the other. He stopped and fixed his gaze on me.

"Do you want this?" His eyes said something different. He was hungry, hungry for sex. "Yes, yes," I cried.

He turned me onto my back, positioning my body to arch. He lowered himself into me thrusting slowly, letting me adjust to his size.

His pace quickened and my moans filled the air of the room. "Fuck! You're so wet," he growled, thrusting even faster this time.

He pulled out, tiring my body to face him. "I...love...how...you...feel," he said, placing a kiss on my neck all the way to my lips. "Come for me, sexy girl."

My hands grabbed unto the sheets. My body quivered from how he stroked me.

His teeth are nipping at my nipples. "Oh fuck," I cried.

My voice hoarse with pleasure. Our moans grew louder as he we both reached our point of climax. Quickening his pace he pulled out, emptying himself all over my belly.

As we laid still on his bed, our hearts pounded in unison, we were soaked with sweat.

As I was drifting off to sleep due to exhaustion a warm kiss fell on my neck.

Chapter 3 Pretence

CHAPTER 3

JENNA'S POV

Rays of sunlight hit my face as I struggled to hide underneath the duvet.

"Can't I sleep a little longer?" I murmured, at this point I just wanted to go back to sleep as head throbbed harder even in my pre conscious state.

I murmured " I'm not ready to wake up yet, cover the damn blinds"

I felt so wasted.

A brutal reminder of the amount of tequila shots I took.

Groaning, I rolled over in an attempt to dodge the rays of light. My hands brushed against something. "Move cassy."

I tried to pry my eyes open, I regretted it instantly. I should have just stuck with the regular two glasses of martini I usually take.

Wait, I never let Cassy sleep on my bed. She's got this habit of spreading her body everywhere. If this isn't Cassy, then who is?

My once heavy eyelids opened wide in horror as I jerked up from the bed.

I scanned the room, this looked nothing like my room. Panic clawed the wayy up my throat. Where the hell was I?

It was him. My gaze landed on the bed. Why the fuck was I on a bed with a strange man?

I was more angry at my self for not remembering anything that happened after the club.

Confusion filled my mind, a million questions still trying to be processed.

I tiptoed to the side of the bed where this figure laid. His body sprawled over the bed. "Who are you?" I yelled. The rage inside me grew with every second that passed.

He jerked up from the sound of my voice as he scanned the room. For a moment there he looked lost. "Hey! Hey! I can explain." He lifted his hands in surrender.

"I know bastards like you, you spiked my drink and took advantage of me" my eyes landed on the bed stand as I lifted up a vase.

"Hey! Drop that and listen to me."

"You think I'd let you go after you raped me?" I spat.

His brows furrowed in confusion, "If I had raped you, I wouldn't have driven you down to my apartment. Rather I would have left you in the club to actually get raped."

He could be lying, I didn't want to hear any word from him again.

I felt an energy surge brew within me, I swung.

He staggered back, as though he'd lost his balance

His expression only read confusion. "Why..... what was that for?" He stammered.

He walked up to me and grabbed my shoulders. His gaze fixed on me and all I could see was ... .nothing. "I would never do anything to hurt you, I promise."

"Whatever happened between us had your consent. Yes you were drunk but I made sure you were aware and wanted it to happen. I'm truly sorry." He lowered his head as he dropped himself on the bed.

I felt sorry for him, maybe shouldn't have done that in the first place.

My eyes scanned the room this time in search of my clothes until my gaze fell on this strange man. His hands, they were bleeding.

I gasped "Oh goodness! I'm really sorry about what I did," I quickly grabbed onto a clothe lying on the floor. I yanked it apart not caring who owned it.

"You don't have to do this." His expression remained unclear. I couldn't tell if he was sad or angry.

I knelt by his side as I carefully wrapped his bleeding arm.

" I'm sorry," I mumbled.

Silence filled the room as I watched him hold onto his arm, thankfully the bleeding had stopped.

"Hey, I felt we had a connection." He paused to look at me. "I knew from the first time I saw you at the club that I wanted you."

"I really would never do anything to hurt you."

A bright idea popped into my head.

Oh my God! Did he just say he wanted me? This could be my cue to propose my plan.

If I look on the bright side, he was the reason I went to the club; to get a boyfriend.

A sheepish smile carved on my lips.

You don't get to see opportunities flying around everyday.

I cleared my throat.

"what I'm about to say might sound bizarre , but just hear me out". My voice started to tremble slightly.

"My grandfather wants me to get married, which I don't want to. I know this is none of your business though, but given we found ourselves in an unforeseen circumstance, I thought to bring it up."

I paused to wait for a reaction yet he looked the least bothered about what I'd just said.

I looked up at him, pleading. " please I'm sorry and I know this is insane. I just need you to do me a favour, please!" I continued, "I'll pay anything you ask for please!"

His eyes pierced sharply into mine. I got him by the tail. Safe to say Cassy was right about waving some money in their face."

"I don't need your money?" His voice was low and firm.

Oops, I guess Cassy was wrong after all.

"What then do you want?"

"I really like you," he spat.

"Okay, here's the deal. How about you pretend to be my boyfriend, we get engaged and then call it off after 3 months,"

"Bold of you to assume I'll agree to that after trying to smash my brain with a vase." He gave a slight shrug.

"I admit I was wrong," my head bent in embarrassment, I continued, " which is why I'm offering to pay for damages and your services,"

The room fell silent again. I needed to get out of this room, out of this messed up situation.

I eyed my dress and purse hanging on the side of a stool. As I headed for the bathroom, i fumbled my purse and finally drew up a card.

"Here," I said stretching the card at him. "This is my business card, my address and phone number are written on it." I continued, "and yeah, 7pm for dinner tonight at my place."

Without a word from him yet again, I turned and walked to the bathroom.

He was still sitted in the same position.

*** ** *** ** ** **

The smell of roasted turkey filled my airways making my tummy rumbled in hunger.

I'd been so worked up by everything that happened earlier this morning that I forgot to eat.

I checked my phone every second as time ticked. It was 6:45pm and yet no word from the strange man.

Dinner started and it was past 7pm. Grandpa kept throwing side eyes at me as he bit into his meal.

"You're either going to eat you meal or stop playing with the goddamn cutlery" grandpa shot at me.

He obviously believes what I said about having a boyfriend was a lie.

"Dating men who don't keep to time are big red flags, Jenna. Without wasting further time I'll begin with the wedding arrangements."

I picked up my phone, it was past 7:30pm.

That bastard! Just when I thought he could be my escape plan.

"Ding" the door bell rang. "Don't worry, I'll get that," I said to the maid as I raced to the door. I couldn't believe my eyes. It was him, the strange man.

"Did I make it in time?" He blurted.
