Stacey was sleeping peacefully when she felt cold drops of liquid on her face, this made her jump out of bed in fright.
Wiping her face with her palms, her eyes wrenched open when a pearl of mocking laughter filled the room. She could tell who owned that voice even in her sleep, her troublesome sister Chelsey!
Tilting her head to the side, Stacey could see Chelsey standing there and staring at her with an evil grin plastered on her face.
"Sister, what was that for?" Stacey fumed glaring at her sister who rolled her eyes at her in response.
"Felt like having some morning fun, not a bad idea, is it?" Chelsey muttered and burst out laughing once again.
"Chelsey no sane person wakes her sister like this, I don't like this." She said trying to keep her voice as calm as possible.
Chelsey scoffed folding her arms across her chest.
"Who cares if you like it or not? And did you just call me insane Stacey? Apologise right now or you'll get it from me, you know what I can do, don't you?" Chelsey yelled staring daggers at Stacey.
Stacey knew what her sister wanted, a fight but she was in no mood for that. She knew she had to apologize even though Chelsey was at fault since she didn't want to get involved in any troubles so early in the morning. Stacey feared getting scolded and punished by her mother.
"I'm sorry, " Stacey sighed.
"Good for you, I would forgive you because I had fun watching how you jumped out of bed when I poured water on your face." Chelsey cackled before she continued.
"You know if you hadn't apologized, I would have gone straight to Mom and told her you slapped me, and you know what would happened next." She smirked.
Stacey stared at Chelsey not a bit surprised. She had gotten used to her sister's constant lies against her just to get her punished, but one thing she couldn't understand was why her sister had always been cruel to her.
Chelsey was their mom's favourite, their dad on the other hand loved them both he tried his best to treat them equally and not show differences. Their Dad always came to the rescue whenever Chelsey started her scheme but he went on a business trip so Chelsey seized the opportunity to make Stacey miserable before he returned.
Letting out a breath, Chelsey's lips curved into a sardonic smile.
"Are you going to tell on me to Daddy?" She arched a brow.
"Oops, I forgot. Daddy travelled and Mommy won't even listen to you." Chelsey said tauntingly.
"Anyways, I'll leave you now. I have to get ready for my new school." Chelsey gleamed clasping her hands together before she ambled out of the room.
It was unbelievable that these two girls were twins, they were more fraternal than identical. Stacey was the older one but she was always mistaken for the youngest because she was petite. Chelsey was taller than Stacey was.
Their personalities were very different, Stacey was the quiet, nice, introverted one, and like Chelsey always said the boring one but Stacey was indeed very beautiful. Chelsey on the other hand was the tall, crazy, fun-filled, mischievous extroverted one, the savage queen and the life of the party.
They were both sixteen and in their final year in high school.
School was resuming today but they had to change their school because of Chelsey who beat up a girl in their former school till she lost consciousness.
It wasn't the first time she was involved in something like that, but their mom always found a way to help her out of it.
She has always supported Chelsey regardless of what she does but when it happens to be Stacey, then she blames her for everything that goes wrong.
But this time she couldn't, because it was the principal's daughter Chelsey had beaten up so she was expelled.
Their Mom insisted Stacey had to move to a new school along with Chelsey.
Once Stacey got ready for school, she took her backpack and headed downstairs to have breakfast.
"Good morning Jane." Stacey greeted the maid.
Jane was a nice lady who did everything to make sure the twins were fine but Chelsey hated her simply because she made it a thing to hate anyone who liked Stacey.
"How are you, Stacey?" Jane smiled pulling her into a hug.
"I'm fine, how are you?"
"I'm good but you don't look fine, " Jane's eyes crinkled as she studied Stacey's countenance.
"Is it Chelsey again?" Jane's brows furrowed in a frown.
Stacey forced a smile.
"Jane I'm fine, What could my sweet sister Chelsey possibly do?" Her voice was heavy with sarcasm.
Jane knew better than to push the issue any further because Stacey never said anything bad about Chelsey no matter what she had done to her, she was like that.
"I made Bacon and eggs for breakfast. Come have a sit." Jane mumbled stepping aside for Stacey to pass.
"I can't wait to dig in, " Stacey beamed scooting to the dining area.
Jane chuckled trailing behind her.
"What about Mom and Chelsey?" Stacey inquired after drawing out a chair and settling on it.
"They left for school already. Your Mom said Luke would drive you to school." Jane informed.
Sadness etched Stacey's face and her shoulders drooped, she didn't think that her mom would leave her behind. Stacey had always done all she could to please her mom but her mom was always neglecting her.
"They left without me, Mom had told me that she would take me and Chelsey to school today but she left me behind."
"Come on Stacey don't worry about it, eat your breakfast." Jane patted her back comfortingly when she saw the change in Stacey's mood.
Stacey nodded with a small smile.
Worrying about her mom's and sister's behaviour towards her wasn't going to change anything so she decided to just let things be and have her breakfast.
"Thank you," Stacey said standing up to her feet after she was done having breakfast.
She stepped out of the living room to meet the driver after which they headed to the new school.
After Stacey alighted the car she sauntered to the front of the huge gate which had the words ROSE HILL HIGH inscribed at the top of the building.
The school's building was fancy and Magnificent. Now she could see the reason why her sister had chosen this school.
Patting her head after she realised she had been staring at the building admiringly for too long, she walked into the gate.
She roamed the surroundings trying to find the principal's office, when she bumped into someone almost falling to the ground but a pair of strong hands helped her back to her feet.
"I'm sorry, did you get hurt?"
She raised her head to see the owner of the voice, her eyes met a pair of hazel eyes. The guy standing in front of her was a great definition of charming, he had dark hair, thick brows, a cute nose, his cheekbones were defined, and he had a chiselled jawline.
A smile embraced his lips as he peered at her.
She snapped out of her reverie, the last she was supposed to be doing was checking him out, but she couldn't help but notice how tall he was since he hovered over her.
"I'm fine, thank you," she mumbled before taking off.
She stopped running once she was far away from the guy. A smile took over her face when she looked to the left and the principal's office was right there.
Taking steps towards the office, she knocked on the door when she stood in front of it.
"Come in." She heard a voice.
Reaching for the doorknob, she pulled the door open and entered into the office.
"Good morning ma'am," she greeted the middle-aged woman who was seated on the swivel chair and a huge desk in front of her.
"Hello, have a seat." She smiled.
"I'm Stacey."
"Stacey Mcgrath?"
"Yes, ma'am." Stacey nodded.
"I'm Mrs Olivia. Your Mom and sister were here not too long ago. I've gone through your information and I'm impressed with your records." The woman muttered smiling at Stacey.
"Thank you, ma'am." Stacey's lips curved into a smile.
"You're a good student and I hope you keep it up! Come on, I'll show you to your class." The principal muttered standing up.
Stacey did the same, she followed the principal until she stopped right in front of a class, "That's your class go in." She gestured.
Stacey took a deep breath bracing herself before she entered the class.
"Good morning sir." She greeted the man she found in the class.
"Hello, how may I help you?" The teacher asked staring at her.
Before Stacey could say anything, the principal stepped into the class.
"Mr Jones, she's a new student." The principal intervened.
"I thought she was here to see her older sibling." A girl sitting at the back of the class and the whole class burst out laughing.
"Quiet!" Mr. Jones warned and they went silent, he was a strict teacher, and the students knew better than to disrespect him.
"I'll take my leave now, " Mrs Olivia said before walking away.
The stares Stacey got from the students made her feel uncomfortable, especially the stares from Chelsey and Kayla her best friend. She bent her head, hoping the teacher wouldn't ask her to introduce herself.
"Introduce yourself to the class." The teacher mumbled turning to her.
That was one thing Stacey hated about moving to a new school, meeting new people, and doing introductions!
The number of stares directed at Stacey and the diverse array of expressions playing on the faces of the students made her nervous.
"Hi, I'm Stacey Joanelle McGrath."
"Who cares?" Kayla interjected and the class erupted in a loud laughter.
"You are welcome Stacey, take the seat beside Mason." The teacher mumbled pointing at an empty seat. When she looked beside the seat, her eyes widened in surprise, the guy who sat there was the same dude she had bumped into earlier.
When they locked eyes, he winked at her. She averted her gaze from him and walked to her seat.
"So let's continue," The teacher started but the bell rang so the teacher had to leave the class.
Sighs of relief and muttering filled the classroom enough to show how happy the students were when the teacher left the class.
Stacey lowered her head on her desk when lots of stares from all angles were directed at her and the class started to get too noisy.
"Hey kiddo, aren't you like supposed to be in middle school?"
Stacey raised her head on hearing the voice and met Mason staring at her.
She didn't say anything to him, she just looked away and went back to her former position. But she had to sit up when she heard a voice she concluded belonged to a teacher. A woman had just woman walked into the class. She was chubby and had glasses on.
"Good morning class, how are you all doing?" She asked smiling.
Some didn't even answer, they just continued with whatever they were doing, and others just kept chatting with their friends.
"Class, it's time to focus and not waste your parents' resources!" The woman hollered making the class go silent and they fixed their eyes on her.
The teacher taught them Geometry, and when her time was up, she left. They had one more subject before it was break time.
After the bell for break rang the students found their way to the cafeteria. Stacey just stayed in the class, she was doing her best to avoid the students like she always did at her former school, she didn't want to get into any trouble.
Stacey's head was lowered on the desk when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
She lifted her head and saw a girl standing in front of her.
"Hi, Stacey." The girl smiled waving at her.
"Hello," Stacey replied returning the smile.
"I'm Adriel Davidson, I noticed you've been sitting here since the break started. Won't you go to the cafeteria for lunch?"
"Well, I'm not really hungry," Stacey mumbled but her stomach growled loudly at that moment exposing her lie.
Stacey looked away embarrassed.
Adriel chuckled, "It's okay, you don't have to feel embarrassed. I'm guessing you are avoiding the people around here, sorry about all that happened this morning."
"Thank you. I would like to go to the cafeteria but I don't like crowded places and...." "
"We can sit far from the others if you want." She suggested chipping in.
"Ok, let go." Stacey nodded in agreement after giving it a thought.
When Adriel and Stacey got to the cafeteria, they sat at a table far from the others.
"I'll go order something for us, what would you like to have?" Adriel inquired turning to Stacey.
"French fries and a strawberry milkshake will be fine," Stacey replied.
A few minutes later Adriel came back with the orders, after placing the tray containing the meals on the table she took her seat.
"I got the same thing for both of us."
Stacey took some cash out of her pocket and stretched them to Adriel.
Adriel stared at her with raised brows, "what's that for?"
"For the lunch."
Adriel shook her head, " No, you don't have to pay me back."
"No just take it, it won't be nice if you pay for my food on the first day we meet," Stacey countered.
"Consider it a treat from your new friend, " Adriel smiled warmly.
"Thank you, Adriel."
Stacey appreciated but she got no response from Adriel. Stacey noticed her attention was elsewhere.
Stacey's eyes traced the direction Adriel's eyes were at. Adriel was looking at a guy who was seated beside Mason. Stacey recognised him, he and Mason left the class together earlier.
When Mason met Stacey's gaze, he whispered something to the guy next to him and they began to saunter toward Stacey's and Adriel's table.
"How do I look?" Adriel asked turning to Stacey as she fixed her hair.
Stacey wondered why Adriel was acting that way all of a sudden.
"You look beautiful." Stacey smiled.
Mason halted when he got to their table. Winking at Stacey, he drew out the empty chair which was beside her and sat down.
The guy who was with Mason did the same
"Hi, " The guy mumbled turning to Adriel and then Stacey.
"Hello Finn, " a smile grew on Adriel's lips.
"Mason, I'll go grab us some lunch." The guy mumbled straightening himself up.
"I can share mine with you." Adriel offered.
"You don't have to."
"Come on, I don't mind. Moreover, I won't be able to finish all of these on my own." Adriel said pointing at her food. That was a lie, Adriel was a lover of French fries she could have the fries on her plate, the ones on Stacey's plate, and still crave more but she wouldn't mind letting go of her favourite food if she was to share with Finn.
"Are you sure?" Finn asked raising a brow at Adriel and she nodded.
"Of course."
"Thank you for sharing." Finn smiled sitting back on the chair.
"That's so nice of you Adriel," Mason mumbled.
He glanced at Stacey expecting her to share her food with him like Adriel just did but she didn't say anything.
"I'll be sharing kiddo's lunch then." He shrugged.
"Who is kiddo?" Adriel and Finn asked exchanging glances.
"Oh, you don't know? She is!" Mason chuckled pointing at Stacey.
Adriel and Finn laughed shaking their heads.
Stacey's face contorted in a frown, "My name is Stacey, not Kiddo."
Now stares from the students present in the cafeteria were directed at Stacey's and Adriel's table since the hottest guys in the school were seated with them, and even eating together.
Mason picked a fry from her plate and put it in his mouth, he picked another and then another before licking his lips just to get a reaction from Stacey.
"It's so yummy." He mumbled and before Stacey knew it, he took the whole plate.
"Give it back Mason," Stacey murmured when she realised, she tried to take it back from him but she couldn't he kept moving it around making it difficult for her.
His eyes widened in surprise, and he chuckled.
"I had no idea you could speak, considering the fact that you've been ignoring me since I sat here."
A smirk tugged the side of Mason's lips.
"Take it if you can." He shrugged springing up to his feet and lifting the plate.
Stacey realised what he was trying to do, he knew he was way taller and he was trying to use that against her. She wasn't going to give him a chance to mock her in front of the students.
"You can have it," Stacey mumbled rolling her eyes at him.
By now, everyone's eyes were fixed on their table, watching the drama Mason was creating.
When Stacey looked in Kayla's and Chelsey's direction, they glared at her.
Stacey wondered what she had done to upset them this time.
Suddenly after Chelsey whispered something to Kayla and she nodded, they stood up with their meal and walked to Stacey's table.
"Hi, sis," Chelsey faked a smile as she took her seat.
"Hey Mason, Finn." Kayla smiled settling on the chair.
"Oh! Hi Adriel, we didn't notice your presence." Kayla gasped when her gaze shifted to Adriel and then she and Chelsey burst out laughing.
Adriel knew it was a deliberate attempt to make her mad but she was ready to beat them at their own game.
"It's not surprising since you both visited the eye doctor this morning, " Adriel retorted. Her voice was laced with sarcasm.
Everyone at the table except Chelsey and Kayla whose faces contorted in anger as they shot Adriel a glare.
What Chelsey said next shocked Stacey.
"Sister, why aren't you eating? You can share my lunch if you want." She offered with a smile staring directly at Stacey whose jaw had dropped.
Stacey was perplexed by Chelsey's behaviour, Chelsey was never nice to her and she never for once called her sister and she just did. In fact, she hated to tell people that they were related or even sisters.
Stacey knew something was amiss, she hoped that Chelsey wasn't up to some mischief. It was just their first day in this school.
"Stacey, why aren't you eating? You can share mine." Chelsey offered for the second time.
"Thank you Chelsey but I'm okay," Stacey mumbled.
She knew better than to trust Chelsey, for all she knew it could be a deliberate scheme to embarrass her publicly or get her into some kind of trouble.
"Is she your sister?" Mason glanced at Stacey as he pointed at Chelsey.
"Yes, she is my twin sister," Chelsey replied smiling.
"I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to Stace," Mason muttered turning to Stacey.
"Oh, I'm sorry," Chelsey apologised her cheeks turning red in embarrassment.
"Mason, first my name is Stacey, not Stace and you shouldn't speak to my sister that way, don't be rude to her," Stacey stated.
"It's none of your business, Stacey. He can talk to me the way he pleases." Chelsey chipped in rolling her eyes at Stacey.
Chelsey grabbed her milkshake from the table and just as she was to take a sip, it fell out of her hand pouring on Stacey.
"Sorry, you'll have to go clean that up, " Chelsey mumbled sarcastically a sinister smile dancing on her lips.
Initially, Stacey had thought that Chelsey's spilling the milkshake on her was a mistake but now she knew that she was wrong, Chelsey did that deliberately.
Stacey stood up to her feet trying to wipe off the milkshake stains with her hands but it only made it worse.
"I'll come with you so I can show you the restroom and help you with that." Adriel mouthed as she sprang up from her chair.
"Is Chelsey really your sister?" Adriel asked as they walked to the restroom.
"Yes, she is. We are twins."
"That's surprising, you both are so different. I don't know if you know but she poured that juice on purpose." Adriel had seen Chelsey's whole act and the way she smiled at Kayla after spilling the milkshake on Stacey.
"I know she did, but let it be." Stacey sighed. Adriel helped her with the stain, even though it didn't completely come off it was less prominent now.
Chelsey hated Stacey because she felt Stacey was a pretentious brat who tried to make everyone like her making her look like the black sheep.
Chelsey beat up the principal's daughter in her former school on purpose simply because school became boring after Kayla left because she was expelled for bullying.
Another reason was that she had her eyes on Mason for a long time since the day he came to buy something from her Mom's supermarket.
And when she told Kayla about it, Kayla told her that Mason attended her school so Chelsey decided to take a drastic step because she knew her dad wasn't just going to agree to let her move to a new school simply because she asked. Since her plan to transfer to Rose Hill High worked, She was going to make sure that Mason became hers. She was willing to go to any length to get what she wanted.
"Mason Owens," Chelsey called flashing him a flirtatious smile.
Mason's brows furrowed and he glared at her.
"Don't you dare call me that again." He had a wan expression on his face as he spoke to her.
"Finn, let's get out of here."
Finn nodded and stood up, together he and Mason ambled away.
Two girls walked to the table when Mason and Finn were gone, "Hey wannabes." They snickered.
Chelsey made to stand up to give them a befitting reply but Kayla held her back.
"Chelsey, you wouldn't wanna mess with them they are the school's most popular girls, Scarlett and Camilla. I hate them, I mean we are archrivals but for now, stay away from them," Kayla whispered to her.
"Well, you both are nothing but scumbags stay away from Mason. He's my boyfriend and mine alone. Chelsey, I'm watching you, don't cross your boundaries." Scarlett barked rolling her eyes at Chelsey who scoffed.
"And you Kayla. Finn is mine, if you want to be safe, you should stay away from him," Camilla added giving her a once over.
After Camilla and Scarlett leered at Kayla and Chelsey like warriors would stare at their opponents in the battleground they dashed away.
"Finn, that girl Chelsey is so annoying and I dislike her so much. It's hard to believe that she's Stacey's sister and even more surprising that they are twins. You know she spilt the milkshake on Stacey intentionally." Mason rasped taking a pause while they walked.
"Woah, Mason, when did you start to care about the bad that happens to others?" Finn questioned folding his arms across his chest as he halted.
"Finn, it's not like I care but I just dislike ladies who throw themselves at guys. It's not cool, " Mason shrugged puffing out a breath.
"Then you must hate these two." He grumbled pointing his hand toward Scarlett and Camilla who were coming in their direction.
"Hey, Mason." Scarlett smiled hugging him as they reached where they were.
"How are you?" He asked breaking the hug immediately like Scarlett had ice on her.
"I'm good as always." She smiled.
"Excuse me I need to take this call. Hello Mom, " Mason mumbled raising his phone to his ear and scooting away before any of them could say a word to him.
"I really like you a lot, Finn." Camilla purred taking Finn's hand in hers.
Finn's thoughts were on something else. He knew Mason didn't receive any call, he just pretended to so he could save himself from Scarlett leaving him there with them.
"Camilla we have to go now," Scarlett told Camilla and at that moment Finn let out a relieved sigh which Camilla failed to notice since she was busy drooling over him
"Bye Finn." Camila smiled planting a kiss on Finn's cheeks before she went away with Scarlett.
Finn headed to the basketball court, he knew Mason was going to be there. That was where they were headed before they met Camilla and Kayla.
"How did you manage to escape from your girlfriend?" Mason teased bursting into laughter.
"She's not my girlfriend!" Finn stated with a straight face.
"Dude you left me there, you know how suffocated I feel whenever Camilla is around," Finn whined.
"It's not my fault that you're so nice," He chuckled.
"Finn you should have just told her to leave you alone." Mason shrugged.
"Camila would feel sad if I did. It's a good thing Scarlett came to my rescue telling Camila that they had to leave." Finn heaved a sigh.
His eyes narrowed as he peeked at Mason, "Your Mom didn't call, did she? You faked a call, your phone never even rang."
"There was no call, I had to leave you to know how talkative Scarlett is." Mason groaned making Finn chortle.
********
"Adriel, why did you offer your lunch to Finn?"
"It's the first time he noticed me, I've had a crush on him for a long time now," Adriel said truthfully.
"I get it the reason you acted that way in the cafeteria."
"Did I act silly?" Adriel's eyes widened and she buried her face in her palms.
"No, and he did enjoy your company, he didn't take his eyes off you." Stacey smiled.
Adriel hoisted her head, her cheeks had turned tomato red.
"Someone is blushing!" Stacey teased.
"I'm not." She argued laughing.
"So tell me what's with you and Mason?" Adriel crossed her arms her eyes scrutinising Stacey face.
"I and Mason?" Stacey's forehead creased, and her eyes narrowed in confusion.
"Uh-huh! He calls you kiddo and he gave you a nickname, Stace."
"Nothing is going on, he just likes to tease me." Stacey shrugged.
"Are you sure? He's the school's golden boy you know. Maybe you too can become..."
Stacey shook her head raising her hand in the air, "No way, don't even say it!"
"Fine," Adriel laughed raising her hands in surrender.
Stacey and Adriel headed for the class once the bell signifying the end of break rang.
Stacey was delighted since she had the same class as Adriel but when she realised that Mason had the same class as them, her excitement dropped to zero. But that didn't matter to Mason because he sat beside Stacey finding numerous ways to annoy her.
Finn was also in the class and he sat with Adriel. Chelsey and Kayla didn't stop giving Adriel and Stacey deadly stares. The teacher taught them for some time after which he gave them a classwork.
When the teacher sat on his chair he sprang up immediately. When he turned making his back face the class, some of the students burst into laughter seeing the gum that had stuck to his pants.
"Who did this?" He seethed with anger pointing to the chair and his eyes roaming the class.
"Who stuck gum to my chair?" He asked this time with a louder voice.
The entire class went silent that instant.
"Stacey did it." Chelsey and Kayla uttered in unison. Stacey was taken aback, she had nothing to do with the allegations laid against her, ever since she and Adriel came into the class she didn't leave her seat even for a minute.
"Who is Stacey?" The teacher asked.
Stacey rose from her seat," I'm Stacey but I know nothing about this."
"You look so innocent but you are mischievous. It's Detention after school for you." The teacher scowled.
"Sir, Stacey didn't do It, I did," Mason spoke up making everyone turn to him including Stacey.
The teacher looked at the class strangely before wriggling his head.
"I don't get it, Chelsey and Kayla said Stacey did it. And now you are saying you did it. Since you have planned to mess with my head. You both have detention after school." The teacher spoke in a voice tinged with annoyance before walking out of the class.
