Everest's POV
As I wandered through the woods on Thursday, the day reserved for our hunting trip with my parents, my gaze fell upon a cluster of delicate wildflowers swaying in the breeze. I reached out a hand to pluck one, entranced by their beauty. But as my fingers brushed against the petals, I realized with a jolt that they weren't flowers at all - they were eyes. Wolf's eyes.
My pulse stuttered to a stop as the wolf's form appeared before me, its eyes locking onto mine with an unblinking stare. Its massive paws seemed rooted to the earth, and its gaze held me captive.
My mom's voice echoed through the woods, "EVEREST!!!" - a warning, a plea, a desperate cry for me to run. I tried to move, but my legs wouldn't budge. The wolf crept closer, its pace slow and deliberate, and I felt my breath catch in my throat.
My parents fled, abandoning me to the mercy of the wolf. I was alone, defenseless, and terrified. The wolf's hot breath washed over me, and I knew I was at its mercy.
I ran through the woods, my heart racing as the breeze whipped around me. The rogue wolf's panting grew louder as its footsteps started closing in.
I snapped through the trees as the branches scratched my face, and I could feel the wolf's hot breath almost grappling me.
With my breath hitching, my feet caught a stump, and I fell to the ground. I scrambled up again, running heavily, my legs trembling beneath me, until I clashed into someone passing by.
He stood in front of me, looking surprised. When he saw I what I was scared of, he quickly transformed into a wolf.
His limbs shrunk, and his muscles flexed. His bones reshaped themselves, and a brilliant blue fur sprouted from his skin. His face lengthened, his nose flattened, and his eyes turned a piercing yellow. He let out a mighty roar, and his blue wolf emerged, powerful and sleek, standing protectively between me and the rogue wolf.
He charged at the rogue wolf, and it puffed out its fur, ready to fight. The two wolves met in a flurry of snarls and snaps, and they fell to the ground as they fought. The rogue wolf was larger, but the blue wolf was nimble and evaded its attacks with quick reflexes. The blue wolf quickly bit the rogue's shoulder, causing it to yelp in pain. The fight continued, with the two wolves rolling and tumbling, their fur matting with dirt and leaves as they wrestled.
I stood behind the trees as my heart pounded while I watched the two wolves clash. The blue wolf's attacks were swift and deadly, its blue coat slick with sweat. Finally, it subdued the rogue wolf, pinning it to the ground with its jaws locked around its throat. The rogue wolf whimpered in defeat, and the blue wolf released it, letting it slink away with its tail between its legs.
The blue wolf stood up, panting, and looked around cautiously. Its eyes searched for me, but I hid behind the tree, too scared to show myself. But the wolf moved around the tree, its eyes fixed on me, and stood before me, its tail wagging slowly. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them again, he had transformed back into his human form, standing before me.
A burning sensation surged through him as he gazed at me questioningly. I was an Omega, so it would take a long time for me to feel anything at all. He was trying to find out if I could feel what he was feeling.
He said, "I'm Cayden, and I know you're Everest. Do you not feel how I feel?" and then he firmly pressed his nose into mine.
I responded in a trembling voice, "No, Cayden-I don't know you!"
With my heart still pounding from the experience, I shoved him fast away as I trudged through the woods. As I saw my house in the distance when I emerged from the woods, my mind immediately became at ease.
I walked into the living room and saw mum's face was plastered with fury, and dad's gaze locked with mine. It took me a few moments to figure out who was the person who has been wronged. They really left me to fend for myself in the woods.
"Where have you been?" Dad inquired, sounding a little irritated and edgy.
"In the woods where you dumped me," I snapped back, meeting my father's and mother's gazes with mine.
"We never abandoned you. You simply weren't strong enough to escape with us. Ever since your birth, you have been useless. You were not even accepted into a pack because of this. You should be quite embarrassed of yourself. Not even transforming into a werewolf is possible. Then, how did you manage to get away?" My mother yelled and got up, suppressing her attempt to smack me.
Dad pointed out, "Take a look at her, she cannot even be appealing to any male wolf."
"You never permitted me to train my wolf or join a pack. It is not my fault at all." I looked away from them and shot a small blowback. I was not interested in seeing the looks on their faces.
I hurried off to my room, too hurt to keep listening to their hate speech. I had felt something different, something slightly different when I touched Cayden, but I was too scared to speak up.
As I was trying to sort through my thoughts and figure out what was going to happen next in my life, I heard the living room door slam and a car horn. A few seconds later, I heard some low laughter and a hushed tone.
Curiously, I decided to head downstairs to see what was going on.
My gaze met Bill's, the person we actually dreaded in high school. He was the Crescent Moon Pack's former Alpha, but his extreme wickedness caused him to be overthrown. He possessed everything and was remarkably wealthy. What did he want?
Suddenly, I felt warmth radiating behind me. I turned around to meet my father, and I was frightened.
"I know you've been eavesdropping. Go down the stairs now."
"Dad, what?"
"Go down the stairs!!" He exclaimed furiously.
As I hurried downstairs, I locked eyes with the previous evil Alpha, Bill. He grinned broadly at me and gave me a short, shaky nod of the head as he laughed softly.
I stood in the living room, unsure of what was going on; all I saw were angry looks from dad and a few glances back and forth between mum and Bill.
"She is going to do", Bill said to mum, staring at me from my feet to my head.
"You can take her right away. She's of no value to us at all," mum said, and both she and Bill started laughing again.
"What's going on here?" I asked in my shaky voice.
"Would you keep quiet?" Dad cut me off abruptly when Bill got up, pulling his enormous dog behind him. Mum shoved me behind Bill and we made our way to the car that was parked right outside. Where was I heading towards?
"Mum, please tell me something." I nudged, feeling terror seeping into my flesh. I was perplexed as to how she could be nonchalant - it was the same evil Bill from high school that was here now.
"Go grind your ass to earn a living, Useless Omega. I will never again see your feeble and stupid ass. We're really sick of you." She shoved me into the car while hollering. The car shut and two men came to join me on either side to make sure I wasn't going anywhere.
My hands trembled horribly. The shock was still getting to me. This was too sudden. The worst thing they could do was sell me to the most evil retired Alpha lecturer after leaving me to deal with rogues in the woods?
Bill got in the car, and my heart pounded against my chest. I sat back and drew in a long breath while the car started. My eyes were blurry with tears as I saw my house go into thin air, and my heart began to beat considerably faster. I was finally leaving my parents, but I was going to be in the care of someone else.
As the car slid into the gliding streets, my heart burned with anticipation for whatever Bill had in store for me.
Spartan's POV
My voice was barely audible as I tried to warn others about the issue with my claimed mate in the room, and the presence of someone at my doorstep only added to the distraction.
After transforming into my wolf under the full moon one late night, I followed my mate's scent to Mikumi, one of the rebellious Sebastian's kids. Because of the daughters' Alpha bloodline, the pack elders had decided to keep them. But, why did the moon goddess pair me with her?
Now that I was in the room with her, she was deliberately releasing her scent into the air, not to remind me to claim her, but to enrage me. I gave her a hard tug and struck her against the walls.
As she eagerly awaited what I would say, a cunning smile and a grin spread across my chin. She was aware of my dominance, but her Alpha bloodline kept her from being intimidated.
"You freaking knew I'm your mate this entire time yet you cannot speak out?!" I gave her a horrible scream, my wolf growing ravenous and craving her.
Her slender figure wasn't my type; I've always been drawn to curvier women with fuller busts. While she exuded a fierce energy capable of taking down even the most dominant Alphas, my preference leaned towards more voluptuous and plus-sized women.
"How can you say that? I never knew, till you entered this room. Even if I had known that sooner, I still couldn't have told you. Could I?" She responded, raising her voice just a little bit.
"You have to be crazy. Why would the moon goddess pair me with a rogue's daughter?" I held her against the wall, questioning myself.
"How is this my fault?"
"Keep quiet, and pay attention to me-"
"Please say those words," she casually said, infuriating me even more.
"You cannot take this kingdom from me in the name of your extraordinary abilities; two drivers cannot drive a car. I, Spartan Akela Blackwood, reject you, Mikumi Raksha Slade, as my mate and Luna."
She then shoved me away, causing me to stumble and nearly fall to the ground. She swore loudly and stormed out of the room, acting as though she was going to call one of the pack elders. I remained silent and stood back.
She soon made her way back with Astrid, whose expression revealed shock.
"He's already rejected me. He broke the mate bond," she sobbed into her friend's hands, pleading for her to handle me. Astrid was one of the seven daughters of Sebastian, a fierce rebel against the pack. Before his demise, he passed down his powers to his daughters. However, five of them inherited his aggressive nature and were confined for their own safety. Astrid and Mikumi were deemed manageable and allowed to roam free, carrying on their father's legacy.
"Watching a woman deal with a man is unheard of. I can banish the two of you from the the pack, though, if that's how you feel about handling your asses. I'll make you all suffer if the pack's elders don't give me permission to drive you all out." I spoke with clenched teeth.
"Now that's hilarious," Mikumi remarked, and went on, "until you claim your mate, you are not the Alpha of Blackwood pack."
"There might be a second chance mate for me," I whispered to myself.
"She will never rule beside you over this pack if you ever find her. I'm not one of those pathetic wolves that you'll torment after rejecting. Do you get it?" She confidently said.
"I have to see this pack's elders. It's necessary to get rid of each of you from the pack," I said, "the moon goddess has humiliated me by pairing me with a rogue's daughter."
She hissed at me out of the blue. They grew angry at my statements, causing Astrid to snarl at me, while Mikumi followed suit.
I left the room and when I came to an open space, I transformed into my blue wolf and they did the same. I had to see how strong they were.
They both headed for the woods, and I pursued after them, determined to defeat these two highly regarded strong wolves.
I had to exert more energy and accelerate to catch up to one of them, but before I knew it, they were turning around to face me, as if they were prepared for a fight, but they had spotted something in the woods. They quickly vanished from view, but I was keen to find out what they had seen in the woods.
My eyes widened in surprise as I stumbled upon Jacobs, a skilled hunter and insightful seer, sitting by the trees with his guns and medicines. I needed his help finding a mate, so I approached him.
I softly stepped forward, transforming back into my human form, and he recognized me right away. He kindly handed me some of his extra clothes that he had with him.
"You might get a woman wet if she merely glances at the length of your dick," he said, causing me to silently laugh. I took a seat beside him and we both gazed at the sky.
"Spartan, why are you in the woods here? It's not like you."
"I rejected the mate I had found. She's one of those powerful wolves, and she made me feel like fighting, which is how I ended up here."
He stared deep into my eyes and whispered, "You're blessed."
"What are you trying to say? If I don't accept her as my mate, the pack elders won't let me take the throne of the Alpha." I responded in kind.
"You're privileged with a second chance, Spartan, but there's an issue," He remarked, causing me to pay closer attention to what he was saying than I had, previously.
"I said it! I've got another chance, buddy. But what's the issue?"
"The moon goddess only told me there's an issue. Now it's up to you to continue following her scent wherever it appears in the air. That's how far I can help you with," he replied.
I stood up, lowered my head slightly, and dashed out of here.
I repeatedly sniffed, but I was unable to follow the scent or hear the sound of a familiar wolf.
Even though it was late at night, I could still not sense anything. Then the full moon emerged, and I quickly transformed into my wolf form and knelt to honor the moon goddess.
After a few more minutes, it vanished, and my wolf joyfully howled. At this point, we could smell our mate. Our second chance mate.
I ran toward the direction the scent headed, my wolf panting hard; shortly after, I was standing in front of a magnificent house. It was a grand, extravagant estate with opulent furnishings, lavish decorations, and ornate details that screamed wealth and luxury, clearly belonging to a very rich and powerful wolf.
I leaped over the gate and landed silently on all fours, my senses heightened by the sweet scent filling the air. Maybe the wealthy wolf's daughter could be my second chance at finding a mate.
As I entered the compound, my presence triggered the security, but a low, menacing growl from me sent them cowering, allowing me to pass unchecked. With a swift transformation back to my human form, I strode confidently towards the main door.
Everest's POV
I sat by the couch with my wrists shackled to the armrest by thick chains. I couldn't quite figure out why my inner wolf was howling. I made a move to take off the chains from my arms, but they remained in place.
Now that the door cracked open, Bill was once again in the living room. He had left to cage up his dog earlier. He started haughtily making fun of me when he saw that I had been chained at his house.
"Do you think you can get away from me?" I could hear him laughing deeply as he remarked, "Guess who's begging for my mercy now."
Memories of my previous escape from him in college came flooding back.
I addressed him right away, "I'm not asking for your mercy. Tell me what I'm here to do, and take off these chains."
With a silent outburst, he approached me and crouched lower, pressing his nose to mine.
"An intruder is in the compound. I smell something different," he growled, his eyes scanning the living room.
"You stay with her," he ordered, and the person behind me pressed a knife to my throat.
My body trembled, unsure what was happening. I'd never been part of a pack, and my scent was unfamiliar. Was my wolf's earlier howl a sign of something more? I remained silent, eyes fixed on the doorway, as Bill and Joe searched the compound. The man's grip tightened, and I nervously sighed as my heart raced with fear.
The living room door sprang open in an instant, startling both of us. Neither Bill nor Joe nor any of his employees were this. The man standing behind me used his hands to cover my eyes while threatening to cut my throat if I spoke.
My eyes remained shut until I heard someone bang into the wall and then some pushback. I witnessed a stranger attack the man, stab him with a knife, and hit his head against the wall till blood spurted.
He swiftly removed the chains from my hands and turned to face me, his breathing heavy and labored behind the mask.
His eyes locked onto mine, and I wondered who could have sent him to rescue me from Bill. But I didn't care - as long as he meant to protect me, not harm me.
With gentle firmness, he grasped my hands and led me towards the doorway, and suddenly, Bill blocked our way, briefly nodding his head as I gasped, my breath catching in my throat.
"I swear I didn't..." I stuttered, but the stranger hushed me, his eyes locked on mine.
My mind raced with alarming thoughts - could this be the same Cayden who saved me in the woods?
"I'll explain everything," he said, removing his mask, as more security guards arrived, blocking our escape, "I'm Alpha Spartan of Blackwood Pack, here to claim my mate."
He lowered my hands and fixed his gaze at Bill, "stay out of my way, and we won't have issues."
"Mr. Spartan, you're the one with issues," Bill sneered, "barging into my home, claiming someone I've paid thousands for?"
Spartan shrugged. "I'll reimburse you. Let's leave."
Bill snarled, "Look around. Do you think I need your money?"
I realized Bill's true intentions went beyond using my parents as leverage - he wanted me for a different reason.
Spartan's eyes blazed. "Are you trying to provoke me?"
"We don't provoke anyone here. Just one of these men can take you down." Bill taunted, gesturing to the guards, who transformed into wolves in an instant. I watched, mesmerized by the unique transformations.
Bill snapped, "Attack! Take Everest and punish this intruder."
"Everest, come on!" Spartan yelled, and swept me into his arms. He kicked Bill aside and faced Joe, a fearless wolf.
The pack of wolves closed in around us, trying to take Spartan down without hurting me. Spartan held me tight as the wolves roared around us.
"Smart move?" I whispered, "but he paid to have me."
Spartan replied, "I'm Spartan, and today I take control."
He pulled out silver spray, and the wolves howled and swiftly retreated.
Joe rather stood firm as Bill also furiously emerged. Spartan sprayed silver at Joe, but his wolf resisted.
Bill unleashed his massive dog, but Spartan shot it with a handgun, and it collapsed. Enraged, Bill went in and soon returned with his own silver spray, but Spartan quickly shoved Joe aside, opened the gate, and swiftly moved me out of the compound.
Joe's wolf burst through the gate, pursuing us fiercely. Spartan transformed, his wolf form panting hard as he hunched me onto his back.
We sprinted towards the woods, escaping hurriedly from Joe. We came to a stop at the edge of the woods, and I was able to make out a pack in the distance.
"Thank you for the help," I replied as he gently lowered me, "thank you so much for saving me. How did you find out about me, by the way?"
"My mate," he muttered, pulling me closer to him while nuzzling my nose in the same way that Cayden had, in the woods, "you're my mate."
My wolf began screaming "mate, mate, mate" at that very moment, but she stopped abruptly and became angry at Spartan. Then I saw the wrath in Spartan's eyes and wanted to ask her why she was upset with someone who had come to our rescue.
"Are you going to reject me?" I asked, my voice shaking with fear.
"Never," he answered, muttering to himself, "I've spotted the problem Jacobs mentioned earlier. And there he is."
I looked back, and the sight of Cayden sent a shiver up my spine.
"Cayden?" I called out, my voice slower and more cautious.
"I knew it," Spartan snarled, his anger boiling over, "she knows his name, and this monster has blocked my scent." Spartan complained in rage as I hid behind him.
Cayden approached, a subtle smirk playing on his lips, "looks like I've got some competition," he said, his eyes locked on Spartan, "Spartan, I presume?"
Spartan's growl deepened, "She's mine! You're just a monster. Stay away from me!"
Cayden's response was cool and deadly. "Claiming her doesn't mean owning. She has a choice."
"You're just a mere wolf. You'll never be worthy of her!"
Cayden fired back, "Worthiness isn't about rank, it's about heart! And I have hers."
"You'll destroy your pack with your unnecessary boldness, I'm telling you!"
"My pack or your ego?"
"I'll kill you before I let you have her!"
"Then do it! But know she'll never love you if you do!"
Spartan's sneer was contemptuous, "you're no match for me. I'm sure your strength is as little as an Omega's! You've just got guts!"
"Strength isn't just physical. I have the heart and loyalty of my pack!"
As Spartan's claws extended, I felt a chill run down my spine and I knew I had to act fast to prevent a bloody fight.
