Chapter 1 (Dying wish)
A month ago...........
The sun cast a warm glow into the hospital room, illuminating the pale figure of Blair as she lay on the bed, her face now strained and devoid of its former vibrancy.
A nurse had just finished administering an injection, and as Blair turned her gaze towards her little sister, Amelia, she summoned a weak smile despite the evident pain etched on her face.
Tears welled in Amelia's eyes as she reached out to grasp Blair's hand, the air heavy with unspoken words and unshed tears as the two sisters shared a poignant moment of silent understanding in the room.
Amelia watches her sister groan in pain as she stares at her with tears rolling down her eyes and she feels so sorry for her sister, just then she reaches out her right hand slowly and gently toward Amelia
"Amelia, give me your hand," Blair murmured weakly as she tightly held her sister's hands. "I'm sure nothing will happen to you," reassured Amelia; Blair had given birth, but now she's not in a stable condition.
"W-Will you promise to take care of my baby and love him like your own, please?" Blair's voice trembled as she struggled to speak, her condition visibly worsening. Amelia, overwhelmed with fear for her sister, could hardly find her voice amidst her tears.
She shook her head in denial, refusing to acknowledge the possibility of losing her sister.
"There's no need for that because you will be here to take care and love him Blair," Amelia insisted, her heart breaking at the thought of losing her strong and healthy sister. Feeling helpless, she promised Blair that she would do anything to ease her distress and prayed for her recovery. Yet Blair's next request caught her off guard.
"Will you marry my husband and protect him?" Blair's unexpected words left Amelia stunned. "No, Blair, how can you ask me such a thing? You will be fine, please stop saying things like that," Amelia implored, unable to contain her tears. But Blair was persistent and desperate to get her sister to agree to her plea and comply with her demands.
"Don't pretend like you're blind to how weak I have become, dear sister. Don't act like you don't know that I might not be able to raise my child. Do not act like you don't know that the chances of me reuniting with my family are slim," Blair's desperate pleas filled the room, her weakened state adding to the gravity of the situation.
"Please, fulfill your only sister's dying wish and do not leave me with this pain of knowing that I will leave my child without protection and care. He's my child," Blair's voice quivered with emotion as she turned to Amelia, seeking reassurance amidst her fear.
"Blair, please, listen to me. Nothing is going to happen to you; everything will be fine," Amelia fervently tried to console her sister, yet Blair's distress was palpable as she continued to plead with her.
"Please, Amelia, I would not have asked you this if I didn't know you were capable of it. There are people out there who wish to hurt me. They will target me through my child. You're the only one I can trust to protect him with everything you have. Please, Amelia, do not leave me to die with the thought that my child is not safe. She continued even though her deteriorating condition stopped her from speaking.
"Please marry my husband and take on the role of his mother. Protect him no matter what. Then I can leave this world knowing that my child is in the safe hands of my sister. Promise me that you will take care of my child like your own. Promise me that you won't let harm come to him. Promise me that you will protect him even if it means risking everything. Please do not leave my child alone in this world. I beg you, Amelia. Don't let these people hurt him. I beg you, please," Blair said desperately
"I promise you, Blair, I will take care of your baby please stop talking, I will protect him at all costs, and I will sure make no harm will come to me please"
Amelia assured her as fear tightened its grip on Amelia's heart as she clasped her sister's hand tightly, making a solemn vow to protect her sister's child at any cost. Overwhelmed by her love for her sister, she committed to fulfilling Blair's dying wish, promising to care for her son as her own.
"Thank you so much, Amelia, thank you so......,.
Blair's words grew increasingly urgent as her breath quickened
Mrs. Fraser, followed by the doctor, entered the room, prompting everyone else to leave. After a solemn moment, the doctor broke the devastating news: "I'm sorry, Mr. Fraser, we lost her."
Amelia's world shattered as the weight of her promise to her deceased sister settled upon her. Bound by her vow and driven by her love for Blair.
Everything happening was confusing to Amelia. What will happen now?Amelia asked no one in particular, she was left to navigate uncharted waters. As she grappled with the sudden loss.
The nurse brought in the newborn baby, and Mrs. Fraser carefully placed the infant in Amelia's arms. As the baby's cries filled the room, Amelia held him close, her heart heavy with grief and her mind consumed by the weight of the promise she had made to her beloved sister.
"Ohh, look at that. Do you see he already loves you as his new mother? Now it would be easy to fulfill the promise you made to your sister," Mrs Fraser said as Amelia stood in total confusion as to how she became aware of what transpired between her and Blair.
"What promise, and how come you are aware of the promise that I made to Blair's mom? You were not in the room at that time, so how did you come to know about it, Mom?
Chapter 2 (Dying wish)
"I was at the door, when you guys were having the conversation, my dear I know is weird coming from me but there's no going back now," Mrs Fraser said
Amelia's expression changed, as she stared at her mom and then at the baby she was carrying, looking at how peacefully he was sleeping in her arms, she felt so bad for herself because she was hooked, so what if she had to suffer but not this innocent child
"But Mom, the father, and the family can protect and care for me, I see no point in having to do all of this," Amelia told her
It was like Amelia had no clue of what the situation was even though she could see it happening, Mrs Fraser thought
"Family and husband? Is either you're blind, Amelia, or you're a novice to what's going on here; your sister was in the hospital for three days, and did you see the so-called family or husband here? Did you? No, you didn't either did I, those people do not care about your sister or this child, so please Amelia wake up"She spoke from a mother's point of view
it turns out none of the Loughtry family had called nor bothered to check on Blair throughout her stay in the hospital, it was no longer news that the Loughtry family never liked Blair but on the stands by Fergus, their marriage happened but not visiting a woman who was carrying their
the child was the dead end for Mrs Fraser
"And so, really, have you ever thought about the gravity of what I'm about to do? Have you ever thought about how I would be able to navigate all of this? How will I Cope? Think about it Mom I know they are horrible people and they do not deserve to have this child but that is not enough it doesn't clarify that they won't care for him mom have you forgotten that I have something going on with Dennis How will I explain all of this to him how I tell him that I'm getting married to his brother barely after a week his wife died how will Fergus accept me as his new wife mom how will I be able to do all of this think about it it is so easy to point fingers at people when they make mistake but how will it change anything how" Amelia said trying to prove a whole different point to her
Continuing the conversation the nurse came and took the baby away from Amelia
"Here I'll take him, he needs to be over observations for now, if the doctor confirms it to you then you can take him home by tomorrow," The nurse said as she carefully and gently took the baby from Amelia
"I hope there's no complications nurse" Mrs Fraser asked with her facial expression being evidence that she was deeply concerned
Knowing she's only asking because she just lost a child she puts on a smile of assurance "No ma'am he's fine we just wanna make sure he's doing well before you can take him home and I'm sure that by tomorrow, he'll be going home with his grandma" she said in a comforting tone and went away.
Amelia places her hand on her mother's shoulder "I'm sure he will be just fine Mom, don't overthink it"
Amelia found herself overwhelmed with thoughts as she contemplated the profound impact a single day can have on a person's life. In the wake of her sister's tragic passing, she grappled with the daunting prospect of being coerced into marrying her late sister's husband. The situation felt surreal, akin to a nightmarish ordeal, leaving her uncertain about the future that lay ahead.
" If only your father was alive, at least he would have stood up for us but there's no one, these people have always made us feel by doing a huge favor to us by marrying our daughter "As tears streamed down her face, she uttered, "I can't hold back my emotions any longer, mom I really confused, what will I do?."
As Amelia pulled her mom into a comforting hug, she couldn't help but wonder if her concerns made her seem selfish. She pondered whether she should make more of an effort to understand her mom's worries. However, Amelia also couldn't shake the feeling that perhaps the dangers her sister was concerned about were even more significant than she had realized.
"Everything is going to be fine please don't cry Mom," She said
The doctor, a tall man in a white coat with a stethoscope around his neck, steps out from his office and approaches Mrs. Fraser and Amelia with a warm smile "Ma'am once again I'm sorry about the loss but we need to prepare a death certificate for the deceased and we would like to get her husband's signature" he gently told them.
"Death certificate? deceased? The cavernous chamber resonated with the baritone timbre of the man's voice, which emanated shock and fear. His visage conveyed a complex mix of doubt and astonishment as if struggling to comprehend the situation unfolding before him.
Amelia and Mrs. Fraser were both taken aback, their gazes fixed in the direction from which the voice had come. There, standing before them, was Fergus Loughtry, the husband of Blair, and the man who had left his pregnant wife alone in the hospital for three long days.
In Amelia's thoughts, she couldn't shake the memory of Fergus' unwavering love for Blair. He had always been there for her, never letting her face any challenge alone. It was Fergus' deep love for Blair and his incredible compassion towards her sister that initially drew Amelia to Dennis. However, she couldn't understand what could have caused Fergus to abandon Blair when she needed him the most. What could have happened?
Mrs. Fraser's countenance shifted dramatically as she realized the person's identity. Her face contorted with a mix of disappointment and simmering anger.
Chapter 3(Dying wish)
"What are you doing here? Mrs Fraser asked in a raging voice, what have you come to do here?
Fergus understood why she was acting that way, he ignored her and went close to the doctor
"What happened to my wife Blair and where is she"?he asked almost in mist of tears and pains
The doctor placed his right hand on the left side of his shoulder and told him calmly
" She had complications during the pregnancy and she was unable to make it but the baby is in good health," he told him, Fergus stood dumbfounded and stunned for what was seconds but felt like ages to me he had gone for a business meeting leaving his wife in the care of his family but they let such happen, he felt betrayed by them as he was lost in his thoughts when the doctor demanded the husband in his office to sign the necessary documents, Fergus was about to walk in when Mrs. Fraser held him back.
" Now where do you think you're going, you have no right to be a husband, after what you and your despicable family put my daughter into," Mrs. Fraser said still holding onto his arm
The doctor, oblivious to the unfolding tension, found himself caught in the crossfire of a brewing family dispute; sensing the charged atmosphere, he tactfully urged the husband of Blair Loughtry to join him at his office; he quietly retreated into his office, seeking refuge from the storm of emotions swirling around him.
Amelia noticed how everyone was staring at the scene created by her mother, she went close to her and gently removed the grip she had on him and signaled her that everyone was looking at them, at she should let him go, she stares around feeling a little embarrassed she left go, Fergus not saying anything quietly moved into the doctor's office.
The next morning the nurse walked into the baby's ward greeted Mrs Fraser and Amelia with a smile and said "He's fine and healthy enough for him to take him home
Mrs Fraser was happy to hear that her grandson would finally be coming home with him; with their faces full of smiles, they thanked her as she walked away.
Amelia was arranging their stuff, getting the baby's things ready for departure, Fergus walked inside, Amelia raised her head and saw him, she released a gentle smile which died almost immediately, she indeed felt bad for him, and without returning the smile she had given him when he walked in he said
"I have settled the bills, with the doctor and you can tell Mrs. Fraser that there would be no need she worrying herself over the bills," he said
Amelia only lifted a gentle smile she died immediately as she waved her head in response to what he had just said, he was about to walk away when she told him in a gentle tone
"Hey listen I know you are equally hurt just like every one of us and I can't just get out of my head even if I want to I know you did love my sister with everything in you but I just can't get over the fact that you were not here when she needed you the most you needed to see the pains in her eyes and just how much she wanted you to be by her side and support her through everything you were not here and I do not know why but feel like you people did not treat my sister the way you should but if I do know it's you were kind and lovely towards her so please do not mind my mom I think she is just being a mom maybe she's a reacting but I know you did love my sister so much," She told as she could see the pain in his eyes.
Fergus smiled at her" Amelia thank you so much for being understanding and not judgmental but I'm not affected by your mother's reaction because she has every right to react the way she did and what my family did to your sister and my wife was horrible not even an outsider should be treated that way and I assure you I will address this issue the way it's supposed to be I wasn't here and they left my wife all alone so please I understand why your mother is the way she is because if I were to be in her shoes I would get my family and I arrested for negation" he told her and without waiting for her response he walked away.
A MONTH LATER
Today, the 15th of November, is Blair's memorial service. The priest prays over her body and she's put to rest. Everyone pays their final respects as they make their way to Mrs Fraser's house from the cemetery.
Amelia is in the kitchen as she is cleaning up the things that were used to serve the visitors that had come for Blair's condolence visits she hears a gentle rock at the door she turns around and sees Dennis standing at the door she looks at him and breathes out in pain and despair he knows that she's in immense pain and sadness over her sister's demise as he comes close to her his spreads out his arms and in a gentle and concerning voice he told her to come
"Hey love, come here" She lifted a gentle smile and rushed to his embrace she started crying as he put his hands around her consoling her while stroking her hair and telling her everything would be fine just then they heard a noise and the hall as he seems that Mrs Fraser was arguing with someone she pulls out from his embrace as the two of them and anxiety and curiosity rushes towards the hall to find out who was behind the noise in the hall downstairs.
