"You filthy Omega, what have I been telling you about punctuality?" Luna yelled at the young lady kneeling before her, who was trembling in fear.
Luna was the head of the servants in the manor of Alpha Marcus and she was a disciplinarian who would never overlook even a little mistake. Every servant feared her.
"F... Forgive me, my lady..." The young lady, Elena pleaded feverishly. Her head was spinning and her lips were quivering.
"I am sick. That was why I took the afternoon off and came in late ..." Elena was saying but Luna cut her short immediately.
"And who gave you the permission? Have you suddenly lost your wit? Have you forgotten who you are?" Luna asked her voice stern, totally unfazed by the sick state of the young lady.
"You are an Omega, you don't have the time to be sick. Who is going to attend to the Alpha's needs if you lay in bed, nursing your filthy body?" She yelled, sounding as if Elena was the only servant around, out of the numerous servants in the Alpha's manor.
Elena clenched her fists by her sides as she tried to steady her breath and voice. She felt fainting.
"Forgive me, my lady." She muttered and Luna hissed angrily, refusing to be pacified.
"Get up now. You are in charge of the Alpha's evening tea. You know he wants his tea prepared freshly in his presence... Get some brewed herbs from the kitchen and go and make the tea for him." Luna barked the order at Elena.
"His meeting has just ended and he is already on his way. He has to meet you in the room waiting for him. You sure know that failure to do that will cost you your life, don't you?" She asked the lady casually as if she was talking about the great weather.
"Yes, my lady." Elena maintained, her voice hoarse but she was trying to make it sound firm.
Without another word being exchanged between the duo, Elena stood up and rushed to the kitchen, hurrying as best as her trembling, sick body could carry her.
"I am so sorry." A voice said behind Elena as she walked out of the kitchen, carrying the tea tray in her hands. Without turning back, she knew the owner of the voice.
"Why are you sorry, Rhea? You are not the cause of my misfortune. And aren't we even in it together?" Elena asked her friend as the latter walked to her front.
"I would love to help you... To at least combine your tasks with mine but Luna won't allow it." Rhea told her, her voice laced with concern.
"I know, Rhea so don't feel bad for not being able to help. I can manage. Thank you." Elena replied, ignoring the pang of pain that was surging through her whole body whenever she opened her mouth to talk.
"That witch!" Rhea mumbled under her breath, referring to Luna, then she heaved a sigh as she remembered what had caused Elena's sickness.
"I knew your body would definitely break down after the punishment you have undergone yesterday." Rhea pointed out.
"Don't worry. We are going to get through this, I am certain." Rhea told her friend, reassuringly. The latter smiled sadly at the level of confidence Rhea was using to talk.
"I doubt we are ever going to escape this shitty life." Elena muttered, shaking her head in pessimism. That was because they had lived their whole lives as Omega and there seemed to be no end to it.
"I am..." Rhea was trying to make her friend believe that they had a bright future but Elena interrupted her before she could finish.
"I better run along now. The Alpha is on the way." Elena said and Rhea nodded in understanding.
"Be careful." Rhea said to her and Elena walked off.
By the time Elena got into the Alpha's bedroom, she was panting heavily. Every step she took was sending jolts of pain to her head. Her throat was dry and she was struggling to keep her eyes opened.
"I can pull through. I just have to endure for a bit longer..." She murmured, swallowing hard. Then, she knelt down and began to prepare the tea.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elena groaned as her eyes opened slowly.
"Argh, my head hurts so much..." She muttered, and she could feel the bitterness of sickness on her tongue.
"Wait, what happened?" She wondered aloud as she realized she was lying on the floor in the Alpha's bedroom. Out of panic of getting caught for getting relaxed in the master's bedroom, she quickly stood up even though her tired body protested.
"Did I fall asleep while making the tea?" She wondered, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. All she could remember was making the tea as she prepared for the arrival of the Alpha.
As she thought of how she ended up on the floor, her eyes wandered to the huge bed in the room and that was when she realized she wasn't alone.
"Forgive me, Alpha..." She had started apologizing when she caught sight of the Alpha on the bed but stopped abruptly as her eyes caught something else.
Blood. It was on Alpha's slightly ajar mouth and nose. And he was lying motionlessly.
"Oh, dear moon goddess, what is this?" Elena screamed but quickly used her palms to cover her mouth. After a moment, she removed her palms from her mouth and used them to wipe her face as if to wipe away the terrible scene before her.
But it was still there.
"What happened to the Alpha?" She mumbled, her whole body trembling in fear.
Slowly, she approached the bed to see better, to confirm she was actually seeing clearly.
"No, no, no..." She sobbed as she realized what she was seeing was real. Then, with shaky hands, she checked for the pulse of the Alpha.
"What ... the ... The Alpha is dead?" Elena's eyes widened in shock at the realization.
"That foolish girl, where does she think she is, to be raising her voice like that?" Luna mumbled to herself as she stood in the front of the Alpha's closed door.
She was walking past the room when she heard Elena's scream. At first, it was a muffled scream, that was when Elena had covered her mouth with her palms.
But when Luna heard another scream, this one louder than the first, she swung the door open and walked inside, feeling alarmed.
"What the hell?" Luna let out a shriek and stopped in her tracks as she set her eyes on the motionless body of the Alpha on the bed.
And for a moment, Luna had stood still with her eyes wide open in shock.
"What have you done?" Luna asked, turning to Elena who was crying at the other side, her voice low but menacing.
"I... I... I didn't do..." Elena was trying to talk amidst sobs but couldn't complete her sentence.
"Keep quiet, you evil thing!" Luna snapped at her, her voice rising.
"You have killed the Alpha!" She pointed out as if telling Elena who had just happened.
Elena's heart sank at the accusation, her jaw almost dropping to the ground.
"How would I dare do that?" She asked, her voice protesting.
"Exactly my point. How dare you?" Luna bellowed at her. Before Elena could talk, Luna beat her to it.
"Guards! Guards!!" Luna's shrilling voice rang through the room.
"What are you doing?" Elena blurted out, not understanding what was happening. She had a clue but she didn't want to believe it.
Luna's head snapped at her and the former scoffed in annoyance. Afterwards, Luna walked briskly to Elena and without warning, slapped her hard across the face.
Elena fell to the floor unceremoniously at the impact of the heavy slap and she burst into hot tears.
"Calling the guards to come and arrest you, criminal." Luna yelled at her. In no time, the guards barged into the room.
"What the hell happened here?" One of the guards asked Luna. The others took in the scene in disbelief.
"This filthy, godforsaken Omega has killed the Alpha!" Luna told the guards. They were all shocked to their bone marrows.
Without wasting time, the leader of the guards instructed two hefty men to drag Elena to the dungeon.
"I swear I didn't do it. I wouldn't dare." Elena screamed in protest as she got dragged out.
"I have no idea what happened in that room. How could I even stand a chance against the Alpha?" Elena yelled, sobbed and even pleaded but every sound from her fell on deaf ears.
The guards threw her into a cold, dark dungeon where criminals were kept. That was where she would be until her trial before the council.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The Alpha of Moonlight pack has been murdered by an Omega!"
The news spread like a wildfire across every corner of the pack and beyond, shaking the entire community.
"What did you just say? No, it can't be..." A middle-aged woman, Lena gasped in disbelief at the announcement.
"Shut it, you treacherous bitch!" Rose, Alpha's wife snapped at the woman kneeling before her.
Rose had barged into Lena's room with guards behind her and thrown the news at Lena's face.
"Do you think I don't know about your little, silly movement of Omega's uprising or whatever you call it?" Rose asked rhetorically, glaring at Lena in fury.
"Now, one of the lowlifes you supported has killed my husband! Tell me, Lena, how were you able to succeed?" She growled at the woman, making the guards behind her flinch at the loudness but surprisingly, Lena was unflinching.
"Elena can not do that, your ladyship." Lena maintained firmly.
Out of fury, Rose rushed at the woman and landed a hot slap on her face. Lena grunted in pain but recovered immediately and pulled a straight face. She was determined to not show any sign of weakness. For the sake of Elena. For the sake of the helpless Omegas.
"Are you ready to confess to your crimes?" Rose yelled harshly at Lena.
"Your ladyship, you can't get any confession from me because I have no idea of what you are talking about. Yes, I supported the movement for Omega's liberation because of the torture, torment and pain they have to endure every day of their lives." Lena paused for a split second, her stance determined and unflinching, then continued talking while Rose glared at her.
"But I have never instigated the murder of anyone not to talk of the Alpha's. Come to think of it, how can a sick, frail lady stand a chance against the gallant Alpha who had fought different wars and torn enemies apart with his bare hands?" Lena asked, her voice rising and her eyes widening.
As a response to her question, Rose gave her another hot slap but Lena refused to bow to the pain. Rather, Lena exhaled sharply, her nostrils flaring. While Rose's chest heaved up and down in anger and frustration.
"You arrogant vile thing! You think your sharp tongue is going to save you and those lowlifes? No, you can't get out of this, I promise you." Rose bellowed at her and the other woman tightened her jaw in defiance.
"I know nothing of this crime, your ladyship. And I am certain that Elena knows nothing either. I am afraid this is part of a larger conspiracy that you might not know about." Lena maintained, her voice firm and crisp. The trust she had in Elena was unwavering.
"Oh, really?" Rose asked rhetorically, scoffing in annoyance.
"I would love to see whether you will still be able to run your mouth and pull a straight face when your fingers and toes are getting cut off in torture." Rose stated, a sinister smirk playing on her lips at the promise of torture and pain.
"Your ladyship, we found the cause of his death." A guard announced, bursting into the room.
"We found poison in the tea he drank." The guard who just entered the room informed Rose.
Lena sucked in a breath but immediately composed herself.
"Where would Elena even get poison to use on the Alpha? No, she can't do that." Lena thought, shaking her head firmly.
"Oh, now we are getting closer to the truth." Rose muttered more to herself before facing Lena with a scowl.
"You gave that filthy thing the poison after she came crying to you that she has had enough, right?" Rose asked Lena, her eyes narrowing at the latter.
Lena's eyes flashed with fury for a split second at the false accusation but she managed to keep her calm.
"Getting angry right now won't help Elena." She thought, gritting her teeth.
"Firstly, she has a name. Elena. And secondly, she didn't come to me for anything like that. I am innocent, Elena is also innocent." Lena maintained sharply.
"You must think you are something important in this pack, Lena. You dare lecture me that a nobody has a name?" Rose asked her and scoffed dramatically, then she raised her hand at the guards who wasted no time in bundling Lena up.
"Go throw her into the dungeon. When I am done, I am going to start the torture by myself." Rose ordered the guards.
"Yes, your ladyship." The guards replied obediently and walked out of the room with a silent Lena bundled like a despised criminal.
"No..." Rose mumbled at the empty room after the door closed, letting her emotions show.
"Marcus, how would you get murdered like a powerless being? You were a powerful, feared Alpha!" She yelled and her body started racking with sobs.
"We have plans for today. You had plans for this morning." She yelled again amidst sobs. As she said that, she remembered the discussion she had had with him the previous day.
*FLASHBACK*
"Our pack is going to gain another powerful ally again, come tomorrow morning." Alpha Marcus had informed his wife, excitement shining all over his face.
"It is a great news. Who would have ever known that Alpha Jaxon was a peaceful person? He is nothing like the rumors." Rose had replied her husband.
"Since the rogues' attack on the neighboring pack, every pack wants to have an ally in order to weigh war against the rogues. So, let's just say Alpha Jaxon is being smart. This development is going to help both packs." Alpha Marcus had said.
"At least, I can sleep peacefully at night, knowing that members of my pack are safe." He added and he had smiled.
*END OF FLASHBACK*
"That was the happy conversation we had last night, my darling husband." Rose stated as the memory of the previous night faded.
"No, this is done by an insider, I am certain." She maintained firmly. A new feeling of anger surged through her body and then she wiped off her tears harshly and walked out of the room.
"That Omega is done for." She gritted her teeth as she thought of the perpetrator.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Say the truth and you will be spared of the punishment." Rose barked at the servants kneeling and trembling in fear before her.
"Tell me anything you know about the incident." She added, her voice stern and loud almost shaking the ground beneath the knees of the servants.
"What is this, moon goddess?" Rhea mumbled, tears stinging the corners of her eyes.
"Hey, you low thing with big eyeballs, speak up. She is your friend after all." Rose snarled at Rhea.
"Elena won't dare do such. She has actually been sick due to the punishment she served two days ago." Rhea replied, the confidence in her tone shocking even her. She didn't know her voice could come out as clear and confident like that, given the fact that she was so frightened.
"Of course, you would defend her. Anybody has something good to tell me before I order you all to be beheaded?" Rose yelled at the servants.
"Your ladyship, I saw something." One of the servants spoke up, shocking the others.
A triumphant smile crept it's way onto Rose's face and she clenched her fists.
"Just a little longer, my beloved husband. The one who murdered you will soon join you." Rose seethed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Later that evening;.
"Oh, dear moon goddess!" Lena exclaimed as she saw Elena in a pool of her own blood. Her legs tied firmly with shackles laced with wolfsbane, were bleeding profusely.
Lena had just been thrown into the dungeon after some minutes of interrogation and punishment which had left some injuries on her face and neck.
"Elena, are you awake?" Lena inquired as she tugged on Elena's arm with her free hand, crouching over her.
Elena opened her eyes slowly.
"W... What are you doing here, Lena?" Elena asked the other woman, her lips quivering.
"That is not important. We need to find means of clearing this mess." Lena said to her.
At the mention of the mess, Elena's eyes fell and she hung her head lowly as if feeling remorseful.
"I know you didn't do it, no need to feel that way. We just need to find a way to clear your name. To expose the real criminal." Lena told her gently but Elena shook her head in disagreement.
"What do I do in this situation? Aren't I done for, already?" Elena asked tearfully.
"Not yet, Elena. You just have to tell me everything you saw in that room, how everything happened from when you entered to when the Alpha entered, and then to how you found him dead." Lena explained to her.
Elena nodded in understanding and heaved a sigh before opening her mouth, a distant look in her face as she tried to remember the incident.
"As I was preparing the tea, I..." She was saying but suddenly stopped. Her head spun as she saw flashes of what was supposed to be the memories of the incident.
"Lena, I think I am the criminal..." Elena muttered, shocking the other woman.
