7:40 am
I'd never knew Mondays were that good. The wind blows silently, gently forcing itself into the room from underneath the closed curtains. The birds were singing in perfect harmony and the aircon was at a great temperature letting everything go in sync. The bed has never been more comfortable as the sheets were cold everywhere. The eyes of a blessed human can never open in this condition, well...until the disturbing sound of an alarm rings in. That's the worst thing about Mondays
I groaned and shut the alarm clock. Peeking a glimpse of the time, I immediately threw away the duvet and ran out of bed.
"O shoot, it's 7:40 already?" I yelled, taking off my pajamas as quickly as I could be, and threw myself into the bathroom for a quick shower.
7:47 am
I got out of the shower, the time was already reading 7:47, That was not how I planned my first day back to school, but I have a problem with being punctual. Lucky enough, my uniform was waiting in the closet.
The time was running but this young man must look tidy. I had not much time, so I did my hair while it's still wet. I got myself into the uniform, a suit with no tie. I left the collar unbuttoned and the blazer as well, they was just a burden. Looking at the mirror I sprayed on my signature scent, lavender, picked out a wristwatch, and moved on to pick my backpack at the study desk before leaving the room.
"I will miss you baby"
7:58 am
"Morning, family" I greeted my grandparents.
My grandmother was in the kitchen getting my breakfast ready, while my grandfather was reading the newspaper and drinking coffee on the table. We are a small happy family.
-Grandma: Hey sweetie. Sit down and have your breakfast.
-Grandpa: Late on the first day! Why can't you for once get out of bed early?
-Grandma: [serving breakfast] Hon take it easy on the boy, he's trying.
"[under my breath] preach woman"
-Grandpa: stop spoiling him. I need to get to work early but he keeps getting me late.
"Why do you have to be at work early when you own the place?" i said
-Grandpa: As the leader, you have to be a role model.
"[scoff] if I must be punctual to be a leader, no thank you. And...it's still not late to get me a chauffeur, at least before I reach 16. That way you don't have to wait for me and be late."
-Grandpa: young man, you are not getting a chauffeur. I can always drop you at school.
"God! I am fourteen, everyone in the school has one"
-Grandma: sweetie stop it and finish your breakfast. You are getting late.
"but grandma everyone in school has one"
-Grandpa: you'll get one when you start to make your own money. Now get up let's move.
"but I will get a car when am sixteen right?"
-Grandma: [giggle] boy, you will get a car when you're getting married.
"[groaned in disappointment] you guys are crushing my dreams"
My grandparents are just so overprotective. They hate anything that will lead to me leaving their side. I've always wanted a chauffeur and unlucky for me, they don't believe in spending on such things or maybe anything I wanted.
8:05 am
"O my god! Grandpa am so late, can you speed up a little?" I complained. My grandpa never drives fast. That was the main reason I wanted a chauffeur.
It seemed like everything was going slowly except for the time. It happens always when I am late.
-Grandpa: if you don't want to be late you can learn to wake up early.
"there you go again" I rolled my eyes.
-Grandpa: back in my days we got punished for going to school late. I don't know why they stopped the rule"
"it's a private school grandpa, IT'S A PRIVATE SCHOOL"
-Grandpa: well don't put it on me for driving safe then.
"okay"
"but are you sure you don't wanna get me a chauffeur?"
-Grandpa: one more talk about chauffeur and you will get out of my car.
"what about school?"
-Grandpa: I don't care, what I know is I want to see you at school when I come to pick you up.
"OKAY."
"Then...what about sweet sixteen?"
-Grandpa: I will think about it.
8:00 am
Grandpa dropped me in front of the school lobby. When I got out of the car, I was greeted by my buddy Kyle. It's not every day you see a student in the lobby at this time.
-Kyle: Hey dude. Late again.
"Yeah I know"
"What are you doing out here?"
-Kyle: bruh! Who goes to on the first day back?
"Someone that wants to graduate"
-Kyle: Thank God I don't wanna graduate
"Maybe if you go to class you might be a little smarter"
"Where's mike?"
-Kyle: Don't know. Probably in maths class.
"Ok"
"I'll see you later" I walked off
Kyle is the laziest and dumbest person In my life. He just can't stand going to class, the longest he stayed in class is for ten minutes and that's because he fell asleep. He's handsome thou but his grades are not.
On my way to class, I came across our form teacher Ms. Grace. She always gets on my nerves and I still can't figure out why. Seeing her around means trouble.
"Good morning Ms. Grace"
-Ms. Grace: Morning. Late on the first day? You need to work on your punctuality Mr. Kamara, the classes started already.
"I will, Miss"
"Am going to class now" I tried using all effort to leave before she brings any more trouble.
-Ms. Grace: uh! Mr. Kamara!?
"God no" I thought
"Yes, Miss" I answered
-Ms. Grace: your last semester was disappointing. Your grades were very poor.
"Stop exaggerating miss, it was just two classes"
-Ms. Grace: Two classes are still classes and if you fail you'll carry over.
"Okay, miss I will work harder" I rolled my eyeballs.
-Ms. Grace: No meet me at my office after class.
"Okay miss"
If you think going to an elite school is cool, you might wanna think again. My name is Tonaya Whitley and this is my story.
It all started at the end of the school year and we were all happy that middle school is finally over until my best friend came with bad news, she's enrolling in a private school, the most expensive private school in town. Her dad's oil business kicked off and he decided to ruin our friendship. It was so hard for both of us, especially that I can never even in my dreams afford to go there.
Then, an opportunity came to me, a miracle maybe, scholarship test to enroll in the school. I did my best to be one of the lucky ones that write the test. It was a one-person scholarship with fifty brilliant students fighting for it. I had cold feet, no sign of hope.
It took me one semester and heartbreak before the scholarship letter arrived at my mailbox. I was literally the happiest human in the world at the moment. Hopefully, I found the letter first before my aunt, who's my foster monster and also my half aunt. She does not care how my life will turn out. She's a monster in human form, I always wished I could get rid of her.
I don't know how I did it but I got the monster to sign the acceptance letter. It was a dream come true. Tonaya Whitley enrolling in an elite privates school? That's unbelievable.

6:30 am
[Alarm clock ring]
I was wide awake, excited about my first day as a student at Diamond Crown Elite School. I couldn't get myself to sleep the whole night, I kept imagining how great it will be to make friends with rich kids and finally be invited to cool parties. I was a crazy girl with weird imaginations.
I made sure everything I would need for the day was ready. I don't want to be late on my first day, especially when I had to finish the house chores before leaving.
7:30 am
I was still on the chores, I did not know doing the house chores could be time taking. The time was rushing and a lot of chores were not done.
"Oh dear godmother come and help me" I prayed.
I thought of leaving the chores for later but then I thought of packing along and never come back to the house again cuz Aunt Diva is gonna kill me if I don't finish the chores.
7:40 am
"Oh, God! I can't be late on my first day" I thought.
Finally, I got done with the chores. I wanted to take a shower but time wouldn't allow it. I wore my uniform, picked up my backpack, and stomped out of the house.
7:45 am
"Oh, no! I'm going to be late"
I was running like crazy, like running or my life. My heart was pumping so hard. My skin was cold as ice and sweat ran down my spine.
Whew! I stopped to catch my breath.
It was annoying how the school had no bus, mostly because they teach rich kids. It was my first day but I was already regretting it. I should have gone to public school, I thought. My only luck was, the school is not far from my home.
I wiped the sweat off my forehead then checked the time, it clicked 7:45 already but I could saw the building from where I was.
7:50 am
I arrived at the school lobby. I saw my best friend Sophia Goldman, it looked like she was looking for someone around the students going in.
"Tonaya" Sophie yelled and waved when she spotted me.
Everyone turned around to look at me, I just stood there stupidly. I totally looked alien around the other students. The glare made me nervous and I waved back at her. She ran to with a smile.
"Hey, Sophie," I said while still panting from the exhaustion of running.
-Sophie: Hi, Tonaya. You look like a mess.
"I knew right" I combed my long tangled hair with my fingers and fixed my eyebrows with my fingertips while Sophie help me fix my long bangs.
-Sophie: why are you late?
"Sophie remember, I don't have a car?"
Sophie gasped "you walk to school?"
"What's is wrong with you!? You should've told me to pick you up.
"I know, I just don't wanna get you late. The chores must be done"
-Sophie: That witch still made you do the chores on your first day? Don't she have a heart?
"She doesn't"
-Sophie: I just wanna choke her and bring the end of her. Don't worry from today on I will pick you up.
"Sophie..."
-Sophie: nuh-uh, I will not take no for an answer. You cannot walk to school every day"
"Okay...but why is everyone staring at me?" I said when I turned around and everyone is looking at me.
"You'll get used to it. Now come with me" she grabbed my wrist and walked down the hallway. We went to some sort of lounge, maybe a resting area? It was beautifully designed and arranged.
"What is this place?" I said
"This is the ladies lounge. we come here to freshen up" Sophie replied.
"So...what are we doing here?"
-Sophie: gurl, you are in a private school and the way you look does not sync with the environment, you need to be fixed.
She pulled out a powder, comb, and lipstick from her bag.
"You bring all that to school?"
"Is it allowed?"
-Sophie: sweetie, the only rule in DC is to look good and never mess up.
I understood what she meant from the look of the students around, no one is ready for school. They can go to dinner with that makeup.
8:05 am
Sophie accompanied me to settle the remaining of my clearance, and we went to class after. Everything in the school was just different, the lockers, the restrooms, their pool is bigger than the school, and they had chesterfield couches in classrooms.
I and Sophie sat on the second to last seat in the second row. Sophie called on to the guy on another seat next to outs "hi, Ezra". He was talking to the guy next to him before he turned around " oh! Hi Sophie! How are you doing?" He answered
He's light-skinned with a thin face and curly brown hair.
-Sophie: Good. Meet my friend Tonaya, she's new here.
-Ezra: Hi Tonaya! Delighted to meet you. My name is Ezra Arnault.
"Hi" I replied and we shook hands.
"He is one of the smart ones here" Sophie whispered to me.
His thick glasses and smart dressing says it all. He was literally the only person that wore a tie in the whole school.
8:07 am
The teacher came into the class and stood behind the lectern.
- Teacher: Good morning class
-Students: Good morning Mr. Mckingly
"I suppose you're the scholarship student," the teacher asked as soon as his eyes dropped on me.
"Good, everyone knows I am a scholarship student now," I said under my breath.
"Yes" I nodded
"I am your mathematics teacher, Bob Mckingly. Call me Mr. Mckingly. Would you mind introducing yourself to the class?"
"Do I have to?" I whispered to Sophie.
"Yes get up" she whispered back.
I hesitated for some seconds then stood up. "My name is Tonaya Whitley, am fourteen years old, and I graduated from Bookhill Middle School"
"What do you want to be in the future" Mr. Mckingly asked.
"Uh...uhmmm.."
"No future for ghetto girls" someone shouted and the whole class busted into laughter. It was so embarrassing, I felt like running out of the class.
"Quite" Mr. Mckingly ordered.
"Miss Whitley, you can seat now"
"Don't worry, they are just a bunch of jerks" Ezra whispered to me.
-Mr. Mckingly: Miss Whitley, you missed a whole semester. You'll need to work very hard this semester to avoid a carryover. We don't let go of bad marks here.
"Ok sir" I nodded.
Right after, another student walked into the class. He was tall and white, his eyes were sizzling. He had a straight face and jawline. His blonde hair was glistening obviously wet from the shower, It was styled in a whiff with one loose string down to his thick brows. "Holy smokes! Who is this Greek God?" I whispered
"That is Khaleel Kamara"
"KHALEEL KAMARA!?" I repeated in a low and gentle tune trying to process everything into my brain.
He and Mr. Mckingly talked for a moment and he walked down the middle row. I got lost in my thoughts, I could not feel my heartbeat and I got some sort of butterflies in my stomach. The whole class disappeared from my view. There is only me, him, and a smooth soothing jazz music. He walked past me and said "Hi", that was the end of my concentration, I went mute throughout the class.
9:00 am
I, Sophie, and Ezra went to the locker, they seemed to be close, and yes I got jealous, but Ezra is such a sweetheart and funny, unlike the other students.
Lockers were in alphabetical order so Ezra's was first then Sophie's, then mine.
"what other rules do you have?" I asked Ezra
"Drinking, smoking, drugs" he answered
"That does not mean they don't do it" Sophie added
"Ohk"
Ezra received a text from his friends and he left, while I and Sophie walked to the ladies lounge.
Just in, we met Ava Melania at the lounge. I forgot she goes there. I, Sophie, and Ava used to be friends in middle school before she starts mingling with the wrong crowd. She was transferred to a private school in third grade and she felt like she's not our class anymore. I was her competition back in middle school though she never beat me.
Ava Melanie is short and curvy, she changes her hair like every single day. No offense, she's a queen of fashion.
-Ava: [Smirked] "Tonaya Whitley"
It was surprising how she talked to me in front of her gang, I don't imagine her talking to a scholarship student.
Ava: So you're the scholarship girl?
"Yes, Ava! So what?" Sophie stepped in.
-Ava: [Scoffed] and who ask for your opinion?
She turned to me and added "Good luck you will need it" and bolted out of the room.
She is crazy rude.
Sophie: Are you alright?
"Am I the only scholarship student in the school?"
-Sophie: No.
You'll blend. They will forget about you in some days.
She went to the mirror fixing herself and I sat on the chaise lounge behind her.
"So...who is that Khaleel Kamara?"
"Khaleel is the most popular guy. He's not just handsome, his grandparents are crazy rich.
" what about his parent?"
"Them I don't know, but he lives with his grandparents...at least that's what I heard.
" okay"
"Gurl, you better not be crushing. Khaleel is a hit and every girl in this school is hitting. Trust me, even the seniors. Rumors have it that he and Ava are together."
9:15 am
The way to class was just a long journey, the hallway take forever. I suggest they should have a pickup that takes students around.
-Sophie: So ton what's all that about Khaleel?
[She made her annoying goofy face]
"Nothing, just asking" I chuckled nervously
-Sophie: Well, that's not what I see in you.
I thought you don't do popular guys remember? You don't trust them.
"I said I don't trust them not I don't crush them"
Sophie gasped "Who are you?"
"Hey, it's just a crush" I smiled.
"Yeah I know"
"He said hi to me in math class"
"Ton, you better keep that as just crush cuz you canon compete with all the girls hitting on him"
"Okay" I rolled my eyes.
"Talking of the devil" Sophie said when she saw Khaleel in the hallway. God! He's so handsome. He walks like a model on the runway.
He was walking towards us and it looked like he was coming to us.
"Hey, Sophie do you think he is coming to talk to us?"
"Stop your stop your stupid imagina...."
"Hi, Sophia!"
OMG, the Greek god was actually coming to us. I nearly passed out, couldn't even breathe.
Sophie squealed
"What's wrong?" Khaleel asked
"Noth...nothing. Hi...khaleel" she answered
He turned to me and asked "are you, Tonaya Whitley?"
I literally froze at the moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing was working in my brain.
-Sophie: TONAYA
"[Gasped] What...what happened?"
"Are you sure everything is fine?" He asked
"Absolutely fine" Sophie answered.
-Khaleel: I assumed you are Tonaya Whitley, the scholarship student?
"Yes baby, yes" I said in my thought.
"Yes" I nodded
-Khaleel: Great! Ms. Grace wanted to see you in her office.
"Ok...I will be there"
He nodded and disappeared to plane air. That was the most awkward moment of my life.
"I guess am not the only one crushing" I turned to Sophie.
-Sophie: [chuckled] who wouldn't want a handsome husband?
