[Prologue]
I lived a more comfortable life than average people, and a happy family composing of me and my siblings, my dad and my mom.
My Dad is a police officer and my mom is a doctor, and I am blessed to have them.
I have nothing to ask for because I know in myself that I am more than complete.
I have three older brothers, they're Matthew, Keizer and Iñigo.
Brother Matthew, a higher ranking military man. Brother Keizer, on the other hand, is a famous psychologist, and he is known in the world, the most sought after because of his unparalleled talent. The last one is Iñigo, also a military officer like Brother Matthew, and they were both serving in the Philippines, our home, and we are happy they could come back home every holidays- we are happy as a family.
I am the youngest and I want to follow my Dad's footsteps because he is a known and a good Police Chief in his station. Everybody loves and admires my Dad's intelligence.
Because of that, I also studied very hard to achieve my dreams to be a police female officer, following my dad's footsteps with my family's wholehearted support behind my back. As a child, my father taught me how to use a gun and shoot, the first time scared me as I was afraid I might missed a shoot and hurt someone.
But when I was a child I was diagnosed to have a heart disease. My parents do everything in their power to help me find a heart donor. Because of that, my family became very protective of me, to the point that I couldn't even go out on my own.
It's also not easy because just a simple mishaps will hurt and could take the life out of me. There were many rules I have to follow. It also became dangerous because my father, despite being good, upright and outstanding, would still aroused the jealousy and hate of others- and that gave him enemies, after his life every second. As his family, that also made us a vulnerable target.
My older brothers were busy with their jobs and all I could do was watch it all unfold, watch them come and go, as I was on my tender age of 10 at that time. Me and my brother inherited my father's blue eyes and it is one of the unique features we have. Brother Matthew have this electronic blue eyes and Brother Keizer, while Brother Iñigo and I have blue ocean eyes. And our beautiful mother have midnight sky eyes---so unique that my dad should have been captivated by that eyes, I bet.
I thought all of us would always be this happy but really in exchange for immense joy came the intense mourning and the unexpected event and what I feared fhe most was happening before my eyes.
"Eury, hide in the cabinet and don't--- no, never come out until I say so, okay?" My mom calmly told me, although she was obviously in a hurry.
"Why Mommy?" I innocently asked her as I was looking at her.
"Just listen to Mommy, okay? Don't come out until I tell you." Mom said hugging me tightly.
"Remember that we love you so much and we're doing this for you." Mom's voice had that unhinted feeling of saying goodbye. But at that time, I didn't notice anything.
Her eyes were moist with tears so I clumsily tried to dry them with my hands.
"Mommy, don't cry okay?" I smiled at her, using my tiny little hands to touch her moist cheeks. "I will listen to mommy." I added so she smiled sweetly at me despite the tears brewing in the rims of her eyes.
Suddenly, we heard shouting and gunshots echoing in our villa, so mom had to quickly put me in the cabinet and locked it.
I covered my ears as the series of gunshots bellowed, as my tears finally fell frantically when I realized they could hurt my mom. I also have difficulty breathing here in the cabinet.
"Where's your daughter huh?" Was the first coherent words after the overwhelming noise around- that I heard.
"She's not with me and even if she is, I won't let you touch my daughter!" That was Dad's voice.
Seeing a hole in the cabinet, I tried my best to look through it, while covering my mouth so I wouldn't make any noise with tears gushing out from my eyes.
Mom suddenly blocked my vision, turning her back against me, protecting me from them, and Dad was in the front talking to the unknown people who barge in our house.
"Take her out if you don't want me to kill you all!" The man shouted, using his gun to intimidate my parents.
It was dark but there was enough light coming from the window- I was so scared, and I was having trouble breathing as well. I tried to stopped the sob coming out from my mouth. I looked at Mommy who was looking in my direction, but she just turned around at me, so I sobbed even more and covered my mouth when I heard a loud and deafening gunshot.
Then I heard a loud and heavy thud.
I saw my parents lying on the floor blood pooled around them.
Mommy is looking at my direction, and she smiled at me while my Daddy is hugging her like he's protecting her, even with the last ounce of his last strength.
My Mommy smiled and mouthed the words 'we love you' in my direction.
"Mommy... Daddy," I cried, covering my mouth.
When I could no longer hear anything I slowly went out. I fought my way out of the cabinet, thankfully it could be opened from the inside.
My knees were shaking as the lights were out, and I was afraid of the dark, so I cried and hugged my unmoving parents who had been shot for a couple of times in their body.
"Mommy! Daddy!" I didn't held back the pain and the shout in my voice anymore as I hugged them both.
"Mom... Dad... please wake up!" I cried and trying to feel the warmth in their hands but they were already cold.
I looked at them and clenched my knuckles with the sudden anger rushing in my veins.
"Dad... Mom.. Wait for me, I will call for help and I will look for the people who made this to the both of you and made them pay," I said seriously while crying.
"I will put them in the bars by myself .." I added and kissed them both on the forehead and went to the door to leave.
I cried and couldn't really breathe but I tried to get up to get out of the villa to call for help.
In front of me isa vast forest I had to crossed to finally see the road, my young mind knew I have to hurry.
My knees were shaking as I came out and I couldn't breathe. I was walking in the forest but everything was so dark, and I was scared.
I felt like I was going crazy as I held my chest- feeling an excruciating pain suddenly throbbing. My heart is weakening, because of the trauma and stress
I screamed as I fell and rolled over the grass but my head hit a large chunk of rock causing me to lose consciousness.
If I could, I want to live longer so that I can avenge my parents death.
I want to live.
Eury's POV:
10 years later ...
I woke up catching my breath. My whole body was sweating profusely. I touched my heart that was beating wildly and sigh deeply because I dreamed again of the events I have no recollection of knowing. I looked at the ceiling on my room and felt emptiness inside of me.
I don't remember anything from my past.
10 years ago, I just woke up that I was in the hospital remembering nothing from my past except for my full name.
The only thing the doctor who treated me told me was that I was operated for my heart disease.
I don't remember anything and all I was told was that I had a good donor and that was Charlotte Del-Valle and I didn't know her but I am very grateful to her while also feeling sad because she gave her life for me and this heart just so I could live.
My adoptive parents were an old couple who had no children. I was happy last year that I was able to study, and now I am in 3rd year in college and even more fun is the police course I took because I just felt this course in my heart.
I am a working student because I don't want to be a burden to the couple. Yes, they can provide my needs but I don't want to depend on other people, yes, I don't remember anything but I'm not crippled that I can't work.
The last thing I remembered was my name but prior to than that I don't remember anything, even my childhood memories.
But I've always dreamed of things and sometimes the details of my past. My head always hurts when I force myself to remember, that's why I'm often taken to the hospital.
Since then I didn't force myself to remember.
After I took a bath I dried my hair, looking at my reflection in the mirror. I heave a long sigh while looking at myself. I have deep blue ocean eyes that were puffy, my face is small and my sharp nose is just right for my heart shape face. My lips is already red that I don't need lipstick anymore plus my tan complexion is just right for my skin.
My body is just right and that is something I am proud of- I am tall and a perfect for a model-type body.
I have a wavy chocolate chest length hair and little bangs on the side that add to my beauty.
"New day but there's nothing new. Still can't remember anything..." I whispered to myself while looking at the mirror.
I wore my black miniskirt and a white polo shirt with two buttons turned on. I also put on my ID and my flat shoes- when I finished tidying myself up, I went on my way downstairs.
The old couple who take me in were were very kind.
Mama Janice is a seamstress of various clothing typically ball gowns and party like dresses, while Papa Ariel has a large plantation with a variety of vegetables and fruits. They were very successful as a couple, just that, they weren't blessed to have a children, so Mama Janice was very happy when I came into their life.
"Oh, Eury, you're up. You should eat first..."
Mama Janice greeted me when I went downstairs.
I nodded and kissed Papa first who smiled at me. I immediately sat on the chair, mama quickly served me the foods even though I told her I could do it and she should just rest but she still insisted.
"Are you sure you want to become a police?" Mom asked me.
"Uh ... yes Mama, because I feel like I've wanted that for a long time .. so I want to pursue it." I politely told her.
Good thing about them is they never lied to me and they never betrayed me. They told me of what happened to me and also why I was in the hospital and that- I have amnesia. So I just listened to them because they were very kind.
They nurtured me for a few years and now that I am 21 years old I am still here in their mansion.
"All right, we'll support you as much as you want and just tell us if you need anything ..." said Papa who was just reading the news paper.
"I have some savings and I think I can use that too but I'll just tell you when I need more." I said smiling at him and he smiled back.
After we ate I went to the garage because the car was already there, with the driver. They don't let me drive yet even though I know how to drive one, they were very protective of my safety.
"Bye, Mama, Papa ..." I said smiling and waved at them who were smiling at me.
I nodded to the driver who immediately complied with me as I leaned back on my seat.
I looked out in the windows- the buildings were towering and the skyscrapers were beautiful to looked at. Everything I need is given to me even the luxuries I have.
"Ma'am we've arrived." The driver politely informed me
"Thank you Uncle Berting, please wait for me later outside the gate..." I told him and he nodded going out to open the door for me.
I went went out of the car grabbing my bag, putting my headphones on.
I am studying at Antrum University- this school is beautiful and their facilities are complete, the rules within the school are also good. The Professors are professional and of good bred, the students are also disciplined but often others are really crazy so the teachers often have headache.
Everyone is giving me strange looks, I also know why, they were weirded out because of my eyes. I also don't make friends because I know they will just betray and stab me at the back, in the end.
Ignoring them I went straight to the college building.
I went inside and went straight to my seat.
Many were looking at me weirdly again but my eyes were fixed on the woman who was quietly reading and just like me, she also doesn't have friends.
I like her as I feel she is unlike any other people who loves to gossip and insult others.
When the Professor arrived, I sat up straight, listening to the discussion. This is our major subject and I am just so glad my favourite course was here.
I just listened, after that we are left with so many activities to bring back home. When his class was over, our Professor just told us what we should do at home and a few other requirements we have to know because the school year was coming to an end. I only wrote the requirements and proceeded to read silently.
The next Professors also came and just like the others before them- they just taught for a while and left a pile of work. It wasn't long before we had a lunch break so I took a deep breath and tidied up my things. I wanted to talk to the girl who caught my attention but she already left.
I sighed and grabbed my bag, carrying my book. There were just so many students who were looking at me and I can only sigh putting on my earphones blocking the noise around me.
I went to the cafeteria ordering to eat.
I'm not picky about food so I eat anything that fancies my eyes.
"That will be 140 pesos Miss."
I paid for the food and thanked her before picking up the Fit N right drink and my spaghetti along with a sandwich and arranged them on my tray.
I also bought water just in case I got thirsty. I went to look for a vacant seat and sat down peacefully, eating quietly until I finish it all- now planning to go to the library to read a book.
While walking, some were brave enough to asked me why my eyes are blue and I honestly don't have an answer, so I just simply made up a reason on the spot.
I arrived at the library and immediately saw the woman I had been looking for earlier. I bravely went in front of her and she looked up at me. She's beautiful- her white skin and her chinky eyes plus her pointed nose and her beautiful cheek bone- she looks perfect in my eyes.
"Uh ... I w-want to talk to you ..." I shyly told her.
"What for?" She asked curiously and I notice she have angelic deep voice.
"I want to be friends with you .." I told her straight. Her lips parted in surprise because of my bluntness.
I sat down and looked at her seriously, I saw her blinking. I cleared my throat. It seems like she doesn't like me that much.
"Why me? There are so many others out there and I also don't want to have a friend." She frankly spoke, looking at me in the eye.
"Oh, is that so? You got my attention because you are different from other students. I know that you are true and ... you are not like any others out there..." I quietly told her the reasons, propping my elbows up to support me.
"Oh," She seems to give it a thought, "I'm not really used to having friends but I-if you want to it's okay for me. Well, you look kind..." She smiled at me sweetly.
My eyes sparkle. "Really? You can't take that back anymore, okay?" I told her bravely with a satisfied smile.
She laughed. "Of course ..." She said and went back to reading the book she was reading.
I smiled feeling excited to finally make friends.
Finally I am no longer be alone and will have someone to share on with my problems.
Yohan's POV:
"I'll follow your lead, Yohan" Iñigo said to the earpiece I was wearing.
We are here in Mactan, pursuing after a foreign syndicate.
They kidnapped the mayor's only daughter and the municipality asked us for help, which we immediately complied with. This will also be my last mission because my Dad is already asking for me to take care of our business and as the eldest I can only be the successor.
My two younger brothers were also part in the military and I don't want them to sacrifice their dreams. I want them to enjoy living freely with the path they chose. Their happiness is also my happiness.
All I have left is my Dad and Grandpa, as well as my siblings. My mom died because of cancer and her last will and testament to us was to donate her heart to the daughter of the Gomez family and we followed that because Mommy really insisted on that.
I saw the daughter of the Gomez family once, but just one look at her made my heart pound wildly. I don't know why but I wanted to see her and feel that pounding in my heart again- but I never get a chance to see her again.
Iñigo told me, she was their little princess but she went missing after that incident that took their parents life in the villa they have in the province.
Iñigo and his older bothers were heartbroken over the death of their parents, but they were even more distraught when they learnt their most cherished sister was missing, whose name I don't even know. So they searched hard to find her, but we haven't heard from her in the last ten years.
I also like to see her to see whether she's still alive. Because my mother's heart was given to her, and I'd like to know how she is doing.
Snapping back to the present, I entered the abandoned building and I was wearing an overall black clothing. My face is covered with mask only allowing my eyes to be seen, armed with guns for defense.
"There are men on the second floor ..." Matthew informed me.
"Copy ..." I answered, hiding myself in the wall.
I went to the second floor and saw what Matthew was saying. Indeed there were a few men gathered in there. I spoke with Iñigo, who said he was with Keith and Matthew as they start shooting, so I dashed over there. My actions were swift, and I rushed to their aid.
I swiftly backed away from the point where the opponent before me was about to attack me and slammed my fist into his face.
"Yuhoo ..." Iñigo whistled into the earpiece I was wearing.
"Focus!" Matthew's stern voice echoed to the earpiece to which his little brother, Iñigo, chuckled.
"You are too serious, Bro." Iñigo teased him.
I just sigh because that's how they are as brothers.
Matthew is very serious so sometimes we tease him because he can easily be riled up.
Turning back my attention to the opponent before me, I kicked one in the chest and turned around and kicked the one behind me in the neck. The shooting continued and I knew that was Matthew and the others.
I went my way up to the third floor because the mayor's daughter was there.
I looked at all four directions before a few armed people emerge from the shadows, cornering me in the middle.
"Who are you?" One of them angrily spoke, playing with the knife in his hand.
"What are you doing here huh? You're entering someone else's territory!" The other one shouted, moving a few meters away from me.
I was wearing an overall black attire, so it seems fair they didn't know I was part of the government, this is a clandestine mission that intends to save the mayor's daughter and escort her back to safety.
I smiled before grabbing his fist and twisting it backwards, hearing the crisp sound of a broken bones in the process. The guy screamed in pain at the same time, so I kicked him in the back and hit the guy next to me. After kicking the person in front of me in the chest, I dashed away and sprang into the air. As soon as I twisted his leg and flung him against his companions who were now attacking, I grabbed the leg of one of them who was ready to kick me in the stomach.
"That's my men! Awesome!" Keith cheered in the earpiece I was wearing.
"Since born Keith." I have the time to replied making the other laughed at me.
Finishing the people before me, I was about to open the door but I felt a bullet drilling a hole in my waist and on the left side of my arm--- I was shot. I hissed in pain as I tried to take out the bullet from my waist. This is for safety measure, we learned how to perform first aid to ourselves in most critical condition.
Keith was immediately alarmed and asked about my condition to which I immediately replied that I was fine.
I ripped a part of my clothe and put some pressure to both of my wounds to stop them from bleeding.
With a heavy thick english accent, the guy who shoot me growled, "Who are you?!"
"I'm here for the kid, give her back!" I shouted back as I tied the cloth around my bleeding arm.
"Why would I give her to you? I need the money now!" He shouted back.
I took a deep breath and finally showed up from where I was hiding. The foreigner was standing before me while another person was holding the kid urging her to move with a gun pointed in her head. The girl was sobbing with new fresh tears cascading down her cheeks. She looked at me with pleading eyes.
"I have the money so give her to me now." I calmly told the guy- after saying that I heard Iñigo's laugh.
"You even owed me one, and you claimed you have it!" He retorted back in the earpiece.
"This will get us in trouble Del-Valle!" Keith added.
"Really huh?" The man smiled at me, while I looked at him coldly.
This the only reason I could come up to prolong the conversation before the others get to their positions.
"Yes, I have the money, so give me the child and I'll give you the money." I seriously said and simply held the gun that was behind me.
I saw Matthew from the broken mirror already standing at the window. I also saw Keith positioned as well. The man shouted to released the child and with shaking hands and body, the child slowly walked to me.
Everything happened so fast, with my gesture, the three immediately moved and before anything happened to the child, I immediately grabbed her and put her to safety in my arms.
"Fuck!" The man cursed and looked at me angrily.
I swiftly took the gun from behind me and shot everyone in the room carrying the girl with me.
Fortunately, she was lightweight and I also have a sturdy body to support her weight and we manage to get away.
I put her in the car Keith had prepared for me.
"T-thank y-you so much..." She spoke softly with a trembling voice, hugging both of her knees.
"It's my job kiddo ..." I said briefly and drove the car out of the warehouse.
"Where are we going?" She innocently asked while looking at the road before us curiously.
"Headquarters ..." I said briefly, turning the car around.
She didn't talked anymore and I was grateful because I was exhausted to talked.
We arrived at the headquarters and I immediately escorted the child in safety inside.
I saluted to our Chief and handed the child to her parents who breathed a sigh of relief.
"It's our job to protect people Sir, Ma'am." I formally said and bowed slightly in respect.
"Good job..." Our Chief congratulated us for the successful rescue-operation.
We talked and filed a formal report while I was being treated by the resident's military doctor, when I was confirmed to be out of danger after being prescribed with medicines, I joined the others to help, before the Chief allowed us go home and rest.
I immediately followed Iñigo outside.
I am now at the ripe age of 30 but I don't do commitments. I have flings here and there at times, but I have never entered a relationship.
"Matthew do you have a picture of your sister?" I ask him as we are about to go home.
"Why? Are you interested with my sister?" He sarcastically said.
I rolled my eyes at him. "I just want to see her face so if I see her I can easily recognize her ..." I lied because its really because I want to see her face.
"You can tricked me, I knew you want to hit on my sister, Del-Valle!" Iñigo teased me and I just laughed.
"Don't mix me with the likes of you!" I retorted accurately throwing the bottled water I had been holding since earlier.
"We still don't have any news about her... Even the people who killed our parents."
Matthew's serious voice resounded, his jaw clenching while driving.
We were silent.
I took a deep breath and waited for him to give me the picture of his sister.
When I finally held the picture before me, I gulped and can't help but to be captivated with her ocean deep blue eyes as if I was being sucked into the depths of her soul- she was very attractive. She have a mole on the side of her lips and that sunkissed tan beauty that a man can't resist.
Maybe she's only ten years old here and I bet she was even more beautiful now.
Her chocolate wavy hair that flows on her shoulder is just perfect.
I felt that familiar throbbing in my chest.
"Hey! You might have gone obsessed with my sister!" Iñigo smirked at me so I just give him an unimpressed frown.
"She's probably 21 years old now..." Keith replied leaning back on his seat.
"Yeah, she probably is..." Matthew softly spoke with sadness evident in his tone, looking at the dark road before us.
I sighed. "What's her name?" I ask because I can't take my eyes off their sister's photo.
"See? I told you bro! He is already in love with our sister! He is now asking for her name, the next time he'll be asking for our blessings, tsk! " Iñigo was talking so loudly, I rolled my eyes at him.
"Shut your mouth up!" I hissed at him but he just laughed as an answer.
"Eury Vienne Gomez..." Matthew silently answered.
Finally hearing her name, I can't control the throbbing in my chest, even hearing her name makes my heart pound so fast. What more if I'll see her? I wonder what will happen to me.
"I know that you're looking for her because of your Mom's heart." Iñigo said as he took a deep breath. "Thanks to your Mom Brute for giving our precious sister a second life... We owe your Mom a lot." He added silently.
I took a deep breath because that incident had happened for a long time but the pain didn't vanished at all. It felt as if it was just yesterday when I saw my mom begging us to donate her heart on that girl we didn't even know of. But I saw my mom really love that little girl so we just agreed because that was her last wish after her final last breath. It hurts but I have to accept that my mom is really gone, so I made it a mission to see her too, even if I can just hug her and hear my mom's heartbeat from her chest. To feel complete.
"Eury ..." I murmured softly while looking at her smiling picture
"I will find and chase after you ..." I whispered softly to myself biting my lips.
