Three years later, when the contract is expired, she was refused to leave and arranged a position in the Gates Group where she must co-work with George. In order to get rid of the Gates Family, she tore up the mask on her face and showed a real her, who is actually rebellious, stubborn, and independent in terms of work and life. Not being surprised with Tina's opposite nature for so long, George quickly accepted her characteristics and found it's getting more and more interesting to be with Tina..."

Chapter 1 Almost Being strangled

It hurt!

While Abigail was sleeping, a pair of strong hands grabbed her by the neck and cut off her breath. With all her efforts, she could not shake off the fingers that were entangling her. Due to the lack of oxygen, she was about to suffocate.

She snapped her eyes open, and a pair of dark eyes with a frosty look in them was staring at her.

George Gates!

"Are you out of your mind? Get off me!" She kept struggling to free herself from the man's grip, her face flushed.

"I'm out of my mind, and I'm going to kill you, you snotty woman!" Gritting his teeth, George put forth more strength on his hands, the anger in his pretty eyes soaring.

Abigail was terrified, shouting hysterically, "George, calm down! I'm your wife..."

"Shut up! I don't have a wife as shameless as you who would drug a man!" George was giving off a furious, cold vibe.

He was here because his grandfather had been hospitalized the day before on account of a heart attack. However, he had not expected that the damn woman before his eyes would have drugged him.

He would have killed the woman if he had not still had a shred of sanity left to suppress his wrath.

"Drug a man? You mean you'd taken drugs last night?"

With those explicit, erotic images flooding into her mind, Abigail's initially burning hot face became pale and bloodless in a second. She felt an intense soreness in her chest as if someone had hit it with a sharp object.

Was he drugged? No wonder he had acted so eagerly last night.

He was drugged! No wonder he had treated her like a different woman last night.

Being slightly absent-minded, Abigail lowered her eyes to see the scratches all over George's naked upper body and the deep teeth marks on his broad shoulders, and her heart was saddened.

Without getting the entire matter straight, how could he blame the woman for drugging him?

"I didn't drug you. I'm not that kind of shameless woman!"

Abigail stared at the man with an indocile, straightforward look and shining tears in her eyes, breathing hard.

"Well, if it's not you, tell me who the fuck it is!" George became even angrier at the sight of her feignedly innocent face.

Last night, if she were not wearing such a meek, tender expression while delivering milk to him. He would not have let his guard down and drank it. He felt remorseful and angry that he had betrayed Tina Grey and had sex with Abigail.

At the thought of this, George's unclenched fingers abruptly tightened up again, and the anger in his dark eyes had turned into deep hatred.

"Abigail, I didn't mean to reckon with what happened the year before, but you have done this kind of shameless thing again and again. I am warning you, even though I've acknowledged your status as my lawful wife, I can always take the approval back and kick you out of the Gates Family!"

George's eyes were bloodshot, and hatred was burning away the last vestiges of his sanity. His fingers wrapped around Abigail's neck turned pale due to excessive exertion of strength. Abigail could only exhale but not inhale, however, the pain in her chest from the lack of oxygen was less than half the pain at the bottom of her heart!

She had no idea what the man was talking about the last year, and why he was so angry.

Her brain was turning dizzier and dizzier, and her consciousness was becoming more and more blurry, but the pain deep inside was growing clearer and more profound. George was literally going to strangle her!

"I don't even understand...what you're saying...I didn't do...anything!"

The image Abigail could see was getting darker and darker. She did not want to die. Out of the unquenchable desire to survive, she somehow managed to twist her leg and kick the man in his private parts.

"Ouch!"

Being kicked in the fragile part of his lower body, George instantly released the woman and collapsed onto one side of the bed.

Abigail greedily breathed in the fresh air while reaching out to his shoulders. In a panic, her glance encountered the man's deep-set eyes, and instantly, her heart began to pound violently.

In the man's eyes, she looked like a piece of bright jade, and hickeys covered her delicate, pale skin.

Though there was still irrepressible disgust with the woman in George's heart, the place where she kicked him actually...

He actually...

George looked at the woman in disbelief, tamping down the doubt in his heart, and roared, "Get lost!"

Chapter 2 I Did Not Drug You

Abigail shuddered at George's yell, lowered her head, and then realized she was in nude. Her pale face flushed all over in an instant, and she buried her head deep in shame.

"No..."

Biting her bottom lip tightly, she noticed that a washcloth was on the bedside through the corner of her eye and hurried to drag it. Just then, a small box fell out of the towel.

She fixed her eyes on what had fallen and found that it was a box of Elevit pregnancy multivitamins.

Abigail's face turned bloodless in a second, her lips trembling. She thought, "Fine. It's even harder for me to clear the misunderstanding up now."

She then cast a glance at George and saw clearly that hostility and sarcasm were occupying his cold pupils.

"You've said that it's not you. How do you explain this?"

He yanked her arm in fury and threw her away like she was a disgusting piece of trash. Then, he said in a frosty, cruel voice, "Abigail, don't imagine that is possible for you to conceive my child. You don't deserve it!"

The woman's forehead hit the sharp corner of the nightstand, and an unbearable pain instantly dug into her heart.

Abigail bit her lower lip hard to prevent her tears from shedding and did not say anything. However, she could not straighten up.

"I repeat, I didn't drug you, I..."

Before Abigail could finish her words, George's cell phone suddenly rang. The man picked the phone up to answer despite the woman was still trying to say something.

"What's the matter?"

"Okay, I'll be there right away."

After getting changed hastily, George left the room.

Feeling exhausted, Abigail collapsed on the king-size bed.

...

Knock, knock.

After being in a trance for a good while, Abigail was waked up from her horrible dream by the knock on the door to the bedroom.

"What's up?"

The maid at the door replied, "Madam, breakfast is ready."

"Okay, I'll be downstairs in a minute," Abigail answered and then forced herself out of bed.

She got changed and then walked to the bathroom to wash up. In the mirror, she saw a woman pale as a sheet and looked horrible with blood clotting from the cut on her forehead.

After being stunned for a second, she took a long sigh, dried the bloodstains with a swab, and trimmed her bangs with a pair of scissors to cover the wound. The new hairstyle made her look years younger.

She had not cut her hair since marrying into the Gates Family, because Grandpa did not like it. Therefore, for a while, she could not get used to the straight bang.

Then, she walked back to the messy bedroom to make the bed.

Upon seeing the bright, scarlet stain on the white sheet, she got choked up, and after that, she folded it up and took it straight to the washing machine.

After calming herself down, Abigail opened the door and went downstairs with a regular expression on her face.

In the dining room, Grandfather Oliver was sipping his porridge. He looked quite energetic, not like a patient, who had been sent to the emergency room due to a heart attack the day before at all. Witnessing the scene, Abigail suddenly recalled that it was Grandfather Oliver who had asked her to bring George the milk last night.

A trace of suspicion flashed across her eyes. She wanted to express her doubt out but eventually said nothing.

"Grandpa, are you feeling better?" Abigail let out a calm, innocent smile and quietly sat across from Oliver Gates.

Seeing the woman's bangs covering her forehead, Oliver narrowed his eyes slightly and then revealed a serene smile. "I'm feeling much better, thanks. Why did you cut your hair?"

"I did so on a whim." Abigail maintained her calm smile, skilfully poured a glass of juice, and handed it over to the older man. "Grandpa, are you still going fishing today?"

Abigail had married into the Gates Family for almost three years. However, George did not like her and had another woman in his heart. To express his discontent, he had moved out on the first day of their wedding and never returned for the next 800 days. Therefore, only Abigail and Grandpa had been living in this villa.

Last night, George got back for the first time since the marriage.

If George had not come back, things would be easier for Abigail. However, that was not what Grandfather Oliver wanted.

Abigail guessed that Grandfather Oliver might have faked his illness the day before, and the reason why he had done so should be that he wanted George and Abigail to make a baby for the family.

Abigail lowered her head to cut the fried egg on her plate. Her new bangs itched her forehead, and she then reached out to adjust it.

"I've just got off the phone with James. We're going fishing at Ring River today." Grandfather Oliver, deliberately not mentioning anything about last night, asked Abigail with a usually amicable look in his eyes, "Do you want to join us?"

Chapter 3 The Literal Meaning

Abigail refused the older man with a smile, "I'm not going. Good luck to you and Uncle James."

She had also taken drugs last night and was suffering from a headache, probably due to the side effects of the medication. Thus, she planned to go to the hospital later.

"Okay, stay home and wait for our good news." Grandfather Oliver did not mean to invite the woman. Therefore, he was fine with her refusal.

After breakfast, Abigail fetched the fishing gear for Oliver. The older man took it with a smile, looked at the woman's delicate, elegant appearance, and said in a warm tone of voice, "Good girl. Your meek nature is the best trait I like about you."

At the words, Abigail dropped her eyes, smiled lightly, and did not say anything.

In fact, the reason why Oliver had chosen Abigail to be the wife of his grandson, George, was that she was the adoptive daughter of the Grey Family, who had nothing and no one to count on, and thus had to be resigned and obedient.

Abigail thought that she had been doing well in the Gates Family over the past more than two years and that Grandfather Oliver's fondness for her should have come from that. However, on this day, she eventually realized that what Oliver cared most was the great-grandchild of the Gates Family.

That was why he had drugged the couple.

After a pause, Oliver added, "If you are staying home, you may take the time to get ready for beginning your work at the Gates Group from tomorrow. I've arranged a job for you there. You and George have been married for almost three years. You two have to be together to cultivate your relationship."

With that, he got into the car.

Abigail stood still for a good while, being dumbfounded. Then, she took a light sigh and slightly pursed her lips. It seemed that her easy time was going to end.

The Gates Group occupied a leading position in the food and nutrition industry in City A. Everyone in the city knew George.

He took over the place of the president at the age of eighteen and popularized the products of the group all over the country when he was twenty. Currently, he was trying to expand the market to an international level. Simply speaking, all the entrepreneurs, elder or younger, had a good opinion of him.

After the night he and Abigail had sex, George left the country on business. When he came back, Abigail had worked at the Gates Group for eight days following Oliver's arrangement.

Abigail folded the financial statements, pinched the place between her brows, feeling slightly irritated.

She had just joined the Gates Group for days. How could she possibly get so many complicated tasks done in a short period?

Over the last seven days, she worked overtime every day and eventually cleared up the financial statements for the previous six years.

"Director, President Gates is calling a meeting in fifteen minutes. I hope that you've got your statements ready." Lily Wood, the former director of the finance department, stood in the doorway, waiting to gloat over Abigail's misfortune.

As Abigail had been arranged into the position of the director of the finance department all of a moment, none of her colleagues felt comfortable about that.

"In fifteen minutes? Why didn't anyone tell me about it earlier?" Abigail lifted her eyes, frowning.

She then thought to herself, "It is the fifteenth of this month. Shouldn't the quarterly financial analysis meeting be held at the end of the month as always?"

"Also, I heard that George would not return until early next month."

Lily shrugged and replied in a sarcastic voice, "Sorry, I didn't know until a moment ago. Miss White, don't forget you're the director. I'm sure you'd be able to handle any difficulty head-on. Right?"

In fact, she had got the notice last Wednesday but deliberately had not notified Abigail to see the latter make a fool of herself.

In Lily's eyes, Abigail was nothing but a shameless bitch who had taken away the position of the director in virtue of her beauty.

At the thought that Abigail had stolen her place in the company, Lily wanted to destroy the woman's face.

Abigail was clear about Lily's tricks. She lowered her head to pack up the statements, shaking her head and saying, "No wonder you've been demoted from the director to the assistant..."

In fact, during the handover work, Lily had intentionally inserted some useless documents in those folders to prolong Abigail's working time and to complicate the difficulty.

At Abigail's words, Lily flew into a rage like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. "Abigail White, what do you mean?"

Abigail lifted her head and raised her brows. "I mean what it literally means."

Lily rushed over to the desk and banged it.

With flames of fury surging up in her eyes, she roared, "Abigail, don't be so arrogant. You have no qualifications nor real skills, but how have you become the director? I think everybody knows! Listen to me, a workplace is not where you can cope with ease in virtue of your flesh. Your snotty tricks on men are not going to help you here!"
