~Avery~
''Ave! Avery!''
It was not even up to a ten minutes that I was allowed to rest, my name was called again for the umpteenth time today, I was basically a slave to my own people that was only because my father gave them the right time to treat me like an omega.
I manage to get up from my bed and staggered out of my room because I was feeling dizzy, all I wanted to do was to rest for a bit but of course, they would not have any of that.
I got to the kitchen and met an angry looking Emily, the head maid, she was holding a spatula and I knew better to stay away or else, she might hit me with it out of annoyance.
''Why did you take long to answer your name?! Have you suddenly gone deaf?!'' She yelled at me.
''I am sorry; I was asleep before...''
She did not even give me enough time to defend myself before she dashed me with her insults.
''As expected, all you do is sleep, you never want to make yourself in this house.'' She asserted in a frustrated tone.
I wanted to reply her that she was wrong, how on earth could she say that?
Out of all the servants in this pack house, I was the one who was always used to work the most, yet, she rewards me by calling me useless and lazy.
She paused her speech and stared at me as if I had grown two heads, ''What did you say?''
I notice that her grip on the spatula had tightened and I might have spoken my thoughts aloud.
I lowered my head and shut my eyes, waiting for her to beat me like always.
Fortunately, for me, I was saved by my brother's presence, Liam.
He seemed pretty pissed and this time, Emily was the one who had fear in her eyes.
''What is the time?'' He asked her, so calmly and it was scary because he was never like that.
We both looked at the clock and she was the one who answered him.
''7:30PM, sir.'' She replied him with a shaky voice.
He stepped closer to her and I could hear her breathing increase.
''And when exactly is dinner supposed to be serve?'' He inquired from her again.
''7:00PM.'' She answered him with her eyes shut.
''Good.'' He paused and stepped a bit away from her.
''Then, explain to me why you have chosen to starve the Alpha?!'' He yelled at her at the top of her voice and she flinched.
Deep down, I prayed that he would not notice me and decide to bully me tonight, I was expecting Emily to pass her aggression on me once he left so I would not be able to face more.
''I am sorry sir; Avery was supposed to...''
He cut her short, ''Was supposed to do what exactly?! I see that you are getting too comfortable with your position, maybe, you would like to be demoted to much lower standard, I do not want to hear excuses, if I do not see food on that table in the next seven minutes, consider yourself fired.'' He dragged the last word before heading out.
As soon as he left, I released a breath that I did not know, I have been holding back, you would not blame me, unlike, every other girl, I do not have a wonderful relationship with my older brother, only thing that he felt for me was severe hatred, sometimes, I even wonder if we are truly related, he always tortures me with the fact that I took his mother away from him with my birth, even, my father at some point supported him but he has stopped, my father does not even care whether I was alive or not, I always had to make my presence known to him and as for my brother, every time that he was around, terror was always evident in the atmosphere.
I did not even have any hope again in me, I was just breathing not living.
I never got to experience motherly love and the people that I thought would help in filling that void, they enjoyed inflicting pains on me.
The deadly glare that Emily shot me brought me back to my horrible reality, she was surely going to give me an earful.
''You are the cause of this, if only you had come to join me earlier, maybe, that douche of a brother would not speak to me in such manner.'' She complained bitterly.
Yeah, she cusses at a lot of people even when I was around because she knew, I did not have the guts to snitch on her.
She quickly called other servants to help me take the food to the dining table, with every step that I took out of the kitchen and approached my father, it was with great fear.
I placed carefully on the table so it would not spill, my father never tolerated waste not even the littlest.
I stood beside my brother and waited for his bite of the food, the next thing that I held was him cussing and spitting the food out.
''Who cooked this?!'' He asked in an angry tone.
I tried to speak but it was as if my mouth suddenly developed a power of its own to seal from talking.
''I asked a damn question!''
''I did.'' I replied him.
What exactly was wrong with the food, I have not been able to count the numbers of time that he actually ate without complaining of one thing or the other, nobody could ever satisfy him, in fact, he would always compare it to our mother's meal that it was and always will be the best.
''So, at your age, you cannot moderate pepper in your food, do you want to murder us just like you did to mum?!'' He flared up.
The last words that he uttered hit me hard, why would he say a thing like that to me.
I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out, tears escaped my eyes and rolled down my cheeks.
For how long would he continue to detest me?!
How long would he haunt me with this?!
''I am sorry.'' I apologized even though, it would not help the situation.
''Sorry for your lazy ass self!'' He yelled at me.
He threw the food at me and splashed water on my body.
I gasped for air and wiped my face, the water mixed with my tears dripped.
I looked at my father, hoping that he would say something but all he did was to wipe his mouth with the serviette and stood up to leave without saying a word.
''Get out of my sight before I loose it.'' He ordered me.
I took that as my cue to leave, I ran back upstairs to my room and locked myself up so I could cry my heart out once more.
Maybe, if she was here, she would not have allowed her daughter to suffer this way.
I went to the mirror and stared at my reflection, it was a horrible sight to see.
I wished that it would all end and I would be taken far away from here, maybe, it would be a much peaceful world with my mother.
I hate my life.
~Avery~
I looked at my reflection in the mirror to make sure that my clothes covered each and every one of my bruises, if I could do my own makeup, I would have used foundation to hide them, I did not know why I bothered so much, it was not as if anyone actually cared to notice, I was basically invisible at school and I liked it, it was my escape from this hell that I call a pack, if I had the guts to get into trouble so I would be stuck in detention, I would do it but Liam would make sure to whip me because of the time I wasted at school.
I walked to my bed and grabbed my bag pack when Emily got into my room without knocking, as usual, she had a frown on her face.
''Good Morning, Emily.'' I greeted her.
''What exactly is good about the morning, huh? The Alpha wants to see you, I don't know what kind of trouble that you have gotten yourself into but it better not cost me my job or else, you would be a dead meat and nobody would notice.'' She threatened me with a straight face.
I did not know whom to be scared of, my father hardly requested for me except it was something bad as Emily claimed but I have not done anything, I went straight to my room after what happened last night except Liam has poisoned his mind against me again.
''Why are you still standing there like you have seen a ghost? Move, you always have to be slow, gosh.'' She said in an irritated tone.
I nodded and left my room with her trailing behind me, fear enveloped me as I descended the stairs, I had to calm myself down when I did not see Liam pacing up and down in the living room like he used to whenever he wanted to punish me.
He had the same confused look like Emily.
''Good Morning, Father.'' I greeted him.
My greeting made Liam to shoot a deadly glare at me, ''How many times will I tell you to address him as Alpha, not father.''
I was quick to apologize with a shaky voice, ''I am sorry.''
''Let her be, it does not matter, I am still her father, I never disowned her.'' He finally spoke.
I was beyond surprised at his reply, what could have happened to him, this morning?
He seemed to have woken up at the right side of the bed or my mother must have warned him in his dream to start treating me better.
''But she has to still accord respect before she forgets her place in this pack.'' He argued.
My dad squinted his eyes at his son as a warning, ''I said, drop it.''
He knew better to shut it.
''Drop your bag, you will not be going there today.'' He ordered.
If I was bold enough, I would have protested.
Just when I thought that he was about to be a responsible nice father, he chose to disappoint me, he really wanted me to ditch school so I could work all day, I am sure that Emily and Liam would be happy, the fact that I was given the privilege to go to school.
I gently dropped my bag on the chair beside me.
''Emily.'' He called her name.
''Yes, sir.''
''Go upstairs with some other servants and pack her bags.'' He ordered them.
Uncontrollable tears instantly escaped my eyes and rolled down my cheeks.
Even though, my vision was nearly blinded by my tears, I could see the evil smirk on Liam's face.
I heard him mutter under his breath, ''Finally, he is kicking her out.''
I fell to my knees and chose to beg him, I had no where to go if he was going to kick me out, I would barely survive a day out there without food or shelter, I did not even have a mate to save me from this trouble.
If only my mother's spirit could disturb him so he could stop this madness, how could he treat his daughter like this.
I have never enjoyed a father-daughter relationship, not once as I grew up.
''Please, Alpha. Don't do this to me, I don't have anywhere to go, please, don't kick your only daughter out on the cold streets, I would die.'' I pleaded.
''How exactly is that our problem?! If you die, it would be a plus to all of us, you get to be with mum, that is if she will accept you after cutting her life short with your birth.'' Liam replied me, bitterly.
I decided to ignore him because if I replied him, it might infuriate the Alpha.
''Please, she won't be happy with this, give me another chance, I promise that I will be more hardworking, I won't even sleep, please, I will do anything that you would want.'' I begged.
''There is no point begging because you are leaving.'' Liam pointed out.
They brought my two boxes downstairs and I kept begging.
''Stand up.'' He ordered and I did.
''Stop crying, I am not planning to kick you out, you are still my blood even though, I am ashamed of your weakness that is why I have chosen to send you away.'' He added.
His statement made me to release a breath that I did not know I have been holding.
''Where are you sending her to, dad?'' Liam asked out of curiosity.
''To somewhere that would help her grow stronger and be able to shift.'' He announced.
The smirk on Liam's face had already washed away and it was replaced with a frown.
''What?! Father, she does not need that, we need her here to work for us.'' Liam stated.
''There are a lot of servants in this pack, her absence would not stop services from being rendered.'' He replied him.
''But..''
He cut him short right there, ''No buts. I have made up my mind and there is nothing that anybody would do to change it.''
It was funny how few minutes ago, my brother wanted me gone but now, he has changed his mind all because he did not want me to progress.
''I have spoken to the owner of Mason Academy and she has been accepted.''
''Isn't that the school, the Lycan king owes?'' Liam inquired, just to be sure.
''Yes, it is.'' He replied, shortly.
''Father, you are going to spend such money on her, she is not worth it.'' Liam protested.
''Listen to me, young man. It is my money and I decide whom to spend it on, it is the right place for her as long as it will make her stronger, that is all I want, consider it as an investment.''
I was tempted to hug him but I was not sure if he would like it, tears were still dripping but this time, they were tears of joy.
''I can't believe this.'' Liam asserted but he dared not to walk out on the Alpha.
Anxiety replaced the fear that I had earlier as I thought about how the students at the school would treat me.
''Mind you, there are not only wolves there, it is an academy for supernaturals including Vampires, Witches, Wizards, Dragons, Mermaids and the rest. So, take this opportunity seriously, if I hear any bad report about you, I will withdraw immediately and make sure that you work thrice as you did here, am I understood?''
''Yes sir, thank you sir, I promise I won't fail you.'' I gave him my words.
''Good, your things are ready, although, all the rooms have been taken because of late admission, I made sure that you got the best room but you would have to be paired with someone.'' He replied me.
''Please, don't mind my asking, sir but who?'' I questioned.
He hesitated before replying, ''His son, Alexander.''
Everybody's eyes widened when they heard that, I was shocked to stupor that I had to share a room with the Lycan's son.
Dear, goddess, please, save me.
~Avery~
Anxiety embraced me as I stepped out of the car with Liam, I was finally in front of the Academy and I could not deny that the environment seemed quite good for my mental health, at least, I would be far away from toxicity and even given the chance to start a new life, oh, except, one little detail, sharing a room with a guy would be bad and tempting.
The Lycan's wife who seemed to be the headmistress stood outside with her daughter and some other students to welcome me with a wide grin, I had to mirror their action even though it was forced.
''Don't think you will stay here for long, soon, you will be back into your cage and I will make sure of that.'' Liam whispered and my smile instantly dropped.
It was heartbreaking to know that my blood brother did not want me to be happy, not even one bit, I would just have to behave myself.
''Welcome to Mason Academy!'' The brunette girl with hazel eyes was the first to speak in an excited tone.
She extended her hand for a shake, ''I am Ashley, the Lycan's daughter and your tour guide.''
Her jovial nature just had to bring a smile to my face, I admired her freedom, if only my life could be like hers.
Back in the pack house, I was never given a reason to smile, they always made me shed tears.
I hesitated before taking her hand, I replied her in a low tone, ''I am Avery.''
I dared not address myself as Alpha Grey's daughter when Liam was around, he would just skin me alive, not even caring whether we were in public.
''This must be your....''
She waited for me to complete it but I did not because of fear.
''I am Liam, Alpha Grey's son.'' He answered.
''Oh, I thought you both were related.'' Her mother voiced out.
''No, we are not.'' He replied with a bit of coldness in his tone.
His words broke my heart badly.
''Alright, your pack member is in safe hands, please, tell your father that.'' She told him.
''Sure thing, ma.'' He said.
''Ashley, please, show her to her room.'' She ordered her daughter.
He instantly turned to leave, without saying goodbye.
Not that I was actually expecting him to but it was nice to imagine such with a last comfortable hug.
Other girls had big brothers that would lay their lives for them but all I got was a boy who wanted me, dead.
I followed Ashley into the hallway and I was amazed by what I saw, different supernatural breeds ranging from vampires, witches, dragons and the wolves, my gosh...
The guys were freaking hot but I had to snap myself out of it, none of them were my mate and boys were not my main priority.
''Uh, huh. They are hot, I know but wait till you see my brother.'' She bragged with a smirk that amused me.
I was not expecting him to be ugly anyways, his twin sister was damn beautiful.
She led me all the way to another chamber that was far away from the dormitory.
With every step that I took closer to my room, my heart rate increased and I started breathing heavily.
She halted in her steps and turned to face me, ''Take a deep breath and calm your heat down, he won't bite, don't worry, he agreed to you staying with him.''
Her words actually encouraged me and it was nice and surprising to know that someone actually cared about me, I did exactly as she told me before she opened the door.
She stepped aside for me to get in first, it was such a gigantic room compared to my tiny servant room back there.
It was neat and everything was in order, they were a king-sized bed by the side which was close to the window, I quickly assumed it belonged to Alex while there was a queen-sized bed at the other end of the room.
''I hope you like the arrangement, we thought it would be nice and comfortable for you both.'' She uttered.
It was perfect, I thanked my lucky stars that I did not have to share a bed with him, things would have been really difficult for me especially during cold nights considering the fact that my pillow has always been my best friend and now, there was a guy.
The thought of that sent a funny feeling to run through my body.
''Yes, I like it, thank you.'' I replied her with a warm smile.
''Great! I would have helped you to unpack but I have a class right now, so, I will show you around the school, later at night if that would be okay with you.'' She stated.
I shrugged, ''No problem.''
''Alright then, your luggage will be here, any minute from now...oh, they are here.'' She announced.
They got in and kept it for me at my corner, I mouthed a thank you before they left.
It was weird to see people doing things for me while it was the reverse back home.
''I will see you, later, bye!''
After she left, I started arranging my things into my wardrobe.
I was finally done after what felt like thirty minutes or there about, I decided to dress my bed when I heard footsteps approaching, I froze as the scent wafted up my nostrils, I did not want to hope too much so I would not end up disappointed.
It got stronger and closer and it made me dizzy as well, my eyes became teary as the guy that I have waited for so long, I was finally going to meet him, hopefully, he would love me and never give me a reason to cry.
He walked in and stopped for a second, he perceived my scent too, I stood up slowly and turned to lock eyes with his light green eyes, his chiseled jaw line was everything, his pink lips that I could imagine were soft.
He was everything that screamed perfect.
He was my mate.
