Chapter 1 Fateful Encounter

Victor stood at the crowded room, his eyes scanning the faces of the guests. The charity gala became in full swing, however he felt out of place. At 32, he turned into one of the youngest billionaires inside the city, but money couldn't purchase happiness. He sighed, strolling a hand via his darkish hair.

That's when he noticed her.

She stood on my own by using the bar, a vision in a simple blue dress. Her lengthy brown hair fell in smooth waves around her shoulders, and her eyes sparkled as she laughed at something the bartender said. Victor felt his heart skip a beat.

Without wondering, he made his manner over to her. "Can I purchase you a drink?" he asked, flashing his most captivating smile.

"Oh, um, Yes," she said, her cheeks turning purple. "I'm Rose."

"Victor," he responded, stretching his hand. When she took it, he felt a spark of strength run through him. "So, Rose, what brings you to this fancy celebration?"

Rose laughed, the sound like a song to Victor's ears. "I'm a trainer at the nearby elementary college. We got a present from this charity last year, so they invited me to return and say thank you."

Victor raised an eyebrow. "A instructor? That's awesome. It must be rewarding ."

They talked for hours, dropping track of time. Rose turned humorous and short, her eyes lit up when she talked about her college students. Victor found himself attracted to her warm temperature and genuineness. It became so specific from the fake smiles and hidden agendas he generally dealt with in his international life.

As the night time wound down, Victor did not need it to give up. "Would you want to get out of right here?" he requested, his voice low. "We should move back to my vicinity for a nightcap."

Rose bit her lip, looking uncertain. "I do not commonly do that," she said softly. "But there's something about you, Victor. Yes, I'd like that."

The next morning, Victor woke to an empty bed and was aware of the pillow. "Thank you for an outstanding night. I'll never forget it. Rose"

He crumpled the paper in his fist, a mixture of feelings swirling in his chest. Part of him desired to find her, to peer at her again. But the larger element, the component hardened by using years of humans best trying him for his cash, drove the ones feelings apart. It became just one night. Nothing greater.

Weeks passed, and Victor threw himself into his work, seeking to neglect Rose. But destiny had different plans.

One wet afternoon, his secretary buzzed his workplace. "Sir, there's a girl here to peer at you. She says it's pressing."

Victor frowned. He did not have any appointments scheduled. "Send her in," he said, interested in getting the better of him.

The door opened, and his heart stopped. It was Rose.

She looked unique now. Her face became faded, and darkish circles shadowed her eyes. She wrung her arms nervously as she approached his table.

"Victor," she stated, her voice shaking. "I'm sorry to return right here like this, but I failed to realize what else to do. I'm... I'm pregnant."

Victor gripped the edge of his desk, his knuckles turning white. "What?" he controlled to choke out.

Rose's eyes packed with tears. "I understand it's a shock. It changed for me too. But I thought you had the right to recognise it."

Victor's thoughts raced. A baby? He wasn't geared up for this. He had an empire to run, responsibilities. And Rose... He barely knew her. This couldn't be going on.

"Are you positive it's mine?" he asked coldly, regretting the phrases as quickly as they left his mouth.

Rose recoiled as if she'd been slapped. "Yes, I'm sure," she stated, her voice difficult. "I'm no longer that type of person, Victor."

He stood up, pacing in the back of his desk. "What do you want from me?" he demanded. "Money?"

"No!" Rose cried, tears now flowing freely. "I don't want your cash. I simply... I thought you have to recognise it. I thought maybe..."

"Maybe what?" Victor snapped. "That we'd play glad families? I'm sorry, Rose, however it really is not going to occur. I cannot be a father. I won't be."

Rose's face crumpled, and Victor felt a pang of guilt. But he drove it aside. He could not have enough money to be vulnerable now.

"I'll have my legal professional draw up a few papers," he said, not meeting her eyes. "I'll provide financial help, of course, however it truly is all. I don't need any part of this... Scenario."

Rose stood up slowly, her frame shaking. "I don't need your money," she said quietly. "And I do not need anything to do with someone so heartless. Goodbye, Victor."

She walked out, closing the door softly at the back of her. Victor collapsed into his chair, his head in his hands. What had he finished?

Before he could dwell on it similarly, his phone rang. It turned into his grandfather, Richard.

"Victor, my boy," the vintage guy's voice boomed via the speaker. "I need to look at you right away. It's vital."

Twenty mins later, Victor sat in his grandfather's take a look at, a sense of dread growing in his stomach. Richard Maxwell became not a person to be trifled with. At 80, he still dominated the circle of relatives with an iron fist.

"Victor," Richard said, his hairy eyebrows drawn collectively in a frown. "I'm not getting any more youthful, and it is time we mentioned the future of Maxwell Industries."

Victor nodded, sitting up straighter. "Of direction, Grandfather. What did you want to talk about?"

Richard constant him with a steely gaze. "It's time with the intention to relax, boy. Get married, start a family. The organization needs balance, a clear line of succession."

Victor's mouth went dry. "Married? But Grandfather, I'm targeting the agency proper now. There's no time for"

"No time?" Richard interrupted, his voice sharp. "Make time. Because if you don't, I'll don't have any choice but to name your step brother James as my successor."

Victor felt like he'd been punched inside the gut. James? That snake could run the employer into the floor in a year.

"You can not be critical," Victor protested. "James does not recognise the first issue, approximately jogging Maxwell Industries!"

Richard's expression softened barely. "Then deliver me a purpose now not to pick out him, Victor. Find an appropriate wife, display to me you are ready to lead this own family into the future. You have one month."

Victor left his grandfather's residence in a daze. His mind became spinning. Marriage? A toddler? How had his existence spiraled so out of manipulate in only a few brief weeks?

As he drove domestic, the photograph of Rose's tearstained face flashed through his thoughts. He gripped the steering wheel tighter, pushing the notion away. He couldn't think about her now. He had an agency to keep.

But fate, it regarded, had different plans. As Victor grew to come onto his street, he saw a familiar parent taking walks on the sidewalk. His heart leaped into his throat.

It turned into Rose.

She hadn't seen him yet. Should he prevent it? Talk to her? Apologize for being one of these jerks earlier?

Before he may want to decide, a car got here screeching across the nook. It was heading straight for Rose.

Without thinking, Victor slammed on his brakes and threw open his door. "Rose!" he yelled. "Look out!"

Rose turned, her eyes extensive with fear as the automobile bore down on her. Time seemed to slow down as Victor ran towards her, his heart pounding in his ears.

Would he attain her in time?

Chapter 2 A chance encounter

Time stood still as Victor raced toward Rose. The car's tires screeched in opposition to the pavement, the motive force desperately looking to prevent. At the remaining 2d, Victor reached Rose, wrapping his hands around her and pulling her out of harm's way. They tumbled to the floor, rolling onto the grass as the automobile sped past.

For a second, they lay there, hearts pounding. Rose becomes trembling in Victor's arms, her face buried in opposition to his chest. Despite the whole thing, keeping her felt proper.

"Are you okay?" Victor asked softly, assisting her sit up.

Rose nodded, her eyes huge with shock. "You... You stored me," she whispered.

Before Victor ought to reply, a commotion down the street caught their interest. A crowd was gathering around an elderly man who had collapsed on the sidewalk.

"Oh no," Rose gasped. Without hesitation, she jumped to her feet and ran in the direction of the scene, leaving a shocked Victor in the back of.

As he approached, Victor saw Rose kneeling beside the fallen guy, checking his pulse. "Someone call an ambulance!" she shouted.

Victor pulled out his phone, fast dialing 911. As he relayed the records to the operator, he couldn't assist but be inspired by Rose's calm efficiency. She had positioned the man on his aspect, to him soothingly as they waited for help to reach.

It wasn't until the ambulance arrived that Victor was given a great look at the victim's face. His blood ran bloodless. "Grandfather?" he exclaimed, pushing through the group.

Richard Maxwell lay at the stretcher, his face pale however his eyes alert. "Victor?" he stated weakly. "What are you doing right here?"

"I live nearby," Victor explained, his mind reeling. "What passed off?"

Before Richard ought to solve the problem, the paramedics commenced loading him into the ambulance. "Sir, are you family?" one in all them requested Victor.

"Yes, he's my grandfather," Victor answered. "I'm coming with you."

As they prepared to leave, Victor suddenly remembered Rose. He grew to become, scanning the group, but she became nowhere to be seen. A pang of unhappiness hit him, however he pushed it apart. His grandfather wanted him now.

At the clinic, Victor paced the waiting room, his mind a whirlwind of emotions. The medical doctor had confided in him that Richard might be high-quality; it became just a minor heart episode brought on by way of stress and overexertion. But the scar had shaken Victor greater than he cared to admit.

"Mr. Maxwell ?" a nurse approached him. "Your grandfather is asking for you. And... He is also inquiring about seeing the younger female who helped him. Do you recognize who she might be?"

Victor's heart skipped a beat. "Yes," he said slowly. "I assume I do."

Back in Richard's room, the old guy changed into sitting up in bed, looking a lot better than he had in advance. "Victor, my boy," he stated warmly. "I listen, I have you ever to thank for buying me here so quickly."

Victor shook his head. "It wasn't me, Grandfather. There was a lady... She changed into the only person who truly helped you."

Richard's eyes lit up. "Ah yes, the angel with the type eyes. I'd like to thank her. Did you discover her?"

Before Victor should respond, there has been a smooth knock at the door. Rose poked her head in, looking uncertain. "I'm sorry to interfere," she stated. "The nurse stated Mr. Maxwell wanted to look at me?"

Victor stared at her, a mixture of feelings swirling in his chest. She seemed beautiful, her cheeks flushed and her hair barely missed from the earlier excitement. How had he never observed the warm temperature in her eyes before?

Richard beamed at Rose. "Come in, my pricey. Come in! I recognize I owe you my lifestyle."

Rose blushed, getting into the room. "Oh no, sir. I simply did what all of us could do."

As Rose approached the mattress, Victor observed something glinting at her wrist. His breath caught in his throat. It changed into a delicate gold bracelet, one he recognized at once. It belonged to his grandmother.

Richard noticed it too, his eyes widening in popularity. "My pricey," he said, his voice trembling slightly. "That bracelet... Where did you get it?"

Rose seemed down, touching the bracelet self consciously. "Oh, this? It became a present from my mother. She said it has been in our circle of relatives for generations."

Victor and Richard exchanged a loaded look. Could or not it's feasible? The implications have been stunning.

Before they may query Rose further, a commotion within the hallway interrupted them. James, Victor's stepbrother, burst into the room, his face a mask of difficulty that failed to quite attain his eyes.

"Uncle Richard!" he exclaimed. "I got here as soon as I heard. Are you alright?"

Richard's expression cooled incredibly. "I'm high-quality, James. No need for theatrics."

James' eyes darted between Victor and Rose, a calculating look crossing his face. "And who might this lovable young lady be?" he asked, his tone oily.

"This is Rose," Richard stated warmly. "She's the sort soul who saved my lifestyles these days."

James raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? Well, we need to discover a way to repay such kindness. Perhaps a reward is as?"

Rose shook her head firmly. "No, without a doubt. I do not want any reward. I'm simply satisfied Mr. Maxwell is ok."

As James opened his mouth to argue, a nurse entered the room. "I'm sorry, however Mr. Maxwell desires his rest now. You'll all go away."

As they filed out of the room, Victor stuck Rose's arm lightly. "Rose, wait. Can we communicate?"

She hesitated, then nodded. "Okay, but no longer right here. There's espresso kept down the street."

As they walked, Victor's thoughts raced. He had so much he desired to say, a lot to express regret for. But where to start?

Meanwhile, returning within the sanatorium room, James lingered behind, his eyes narrowed in thought. He pulled out his cellphone, quickly dialing a number.

"It's me," he said in a low voice. "I need you to discover the whole lot you can about a girl named Rose. She's somehow related to the Maxwell family, and I want to recognise how."

As he hung up, a gradual, predatory smile spread across James' face. Whatever occurs, he becomes determined to use it to his gain. The CEO position could be his, one manner or any other.

Chapter 3 The grandfather's secret

The espresso store turned quiet, with only some consumers scattered around. Victor and Rose sat in a corner sales space, two steaming mugs between them. An awkward silence hung in the air.

Finally, Victor spoke. "Rose, I... I owe you an apology. The way I handled you in my office... It has become unforgivable."

Rose looked down at her espresso, her arms tracing the rim of the mug. "You in reality harm me, Victor," she said softly. "I failed to come to you for money or to entice you. I simply thought you had the right to realize."

Victor's heart clenched with guilt. "I understand that now. I was scared and I lashed out. But this is no excuse." He took a deep breath. "If you may allow me, I'd want to make it right. To be there for you and the baby."

Rose's eyes snapped up to fulfill his, a combination of desire and wariness in her gaze. "Why the sudden exchange of heart?"

Before Victor may want a solution, his cell phone buzzed. It became a text from his grandfather's secretary: "Mr. Maxwell requests your presence at once. It's urgent."

Victor frowned, displaying Rose the message. "I'm sorry, I must cross. But please, can we communicate once more soon? There's a lot more I need to say."

Rose nodded slowly. "Okay. You know where to find me."

As Victor moved quickly back to the hospital, his mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. How ought to he balance his grandfather's ultimatum, his growing emotions for Rose, and the responsibility of impending fatherhood?

At the medical institution, Victor observed Richard sitting up in bed, searching for a grave. "Close the door, Victor," he stated. "What I'm approximately to inform you is that you have to no longer depart this room."

Victor complied, his interest piqued. "What's going on, Grandfather?"

Richard took a deep breath. "It's approximately Rose, and that bracelet she became sporting. You recognized it, didn't you?"

Victor nodded. "It turned into Grandmother's. But how...?"

"Sit down, my boy," Richard stated closely. "It's time you learned the reality about our family."

Over the following hour, Richard wove a tale that left Victor reeling. Years in the past, before he met Victor's grandmother, Richard had a passionate love affair with a young girl named Elizabeth. But their families disapproved, and that they had been forced aside. Elizabeth had been pregnant after they separated, a fact Richard handiest discovered years later.

"That bracelet changed into my gift to Elizabeth," Richard finished, his eyes misty with recollections. "If Rose has it, then it's the way..."

"She could be my cousin," Victor whispered, the results hitting him like a ton of bricks.

Richard nodded solemnly. "Which makes the situation with the infant... Complicated, to say the least."

Victor's head spun. How could he inform Rose? And what did this mean for their toddler?

As if reading his mind, Richard spoke once more. "We need to affirm this, of course. Discreetly. And Victor..." he kept his grandson with a stern appearance. "Until we understand for certain, you have to not breathe a word of this to all people. Especially no longer James."

Victor nodded, his thoughts already racing with the ability's consequences. As he left his grandfather's room, he almost collided with James inside the hallway.

"In a rush, expensive brother?" James smirked. "Off to look for your new woman friend perhaps?"

Victor's blood ran cold. How plenty had James overheard? "I do not know what you're speaking about," he stated stiffly, pushing beyond his stepbrother.

James' laughter followed him down the hall. "Oh, I suppose you do. And I cannot wait to see how this all plays out."

As Victor stepped out of the health center, he saw Rose waiting by using his car. His heart leaped at the sight of her, then immediately full of dread. How should he face her with this new expertise striking over them?

Rose smiled hesitantly as he approached. "I wish you no thoughts," she stated. "I just... I felt like we left matters unfinished."

Victor compelled a grin, his thoughts racing. Should he inform her the truth? Or wait till he knew for certain?

As he opened his mouth to talk, Rose suddenly paled, her hand flying to her belly. "Victor," she gasped, "something's wrong with the toddler!"
