Chapter 1

Three years ago, I lost my dad, Mom and I had to leave our home and come over to New Orleans. We don't have a huge house, but the little money dad left with us, Mom used it to purchase a house and the remaining balance left she used it to enroll me in school.

At my other school, I wasn't the one you'd call miss popular but the one who'd hide in the shadows and make sure nothing, and no one sees her, including the bullies at the school...

"Baby! Get Ready? "Mom yelled my name all the way from the kitchen, I hear her loudly signing to the song playing on the radio, Jason Gary's, my parent's favorite song, Mom hasn't stop talking about the day she and dad met each other.

I met her dancing with dad's photo at the kitchen table.

"Good morning, Mom," I approached her and touched dad's photo at the table as well. Mom's head turns, she looked at my dress, asking if I am ready for school, I shake my head, going to the refrigerator, I brought out bottled water, and I opened the cap and poured a little to the glass cup next to me.

Mom shifted to me; she didn't like me drinking from the bottle.

To her, it feels strange, and she calls it, bad habit, I don't really think so, if you ask me; drinking from the bottle makes me feel satisfied, but taking the water to the glass, it is just too classy and not for me.

I assisted mom at the kitchen, we both prepared toasted bread and tea, hot steamy tea, I poured water in Mom's glass and then I later did mine.

I walk with the two cups to the breakfast table, I set the cup at mom's chair and move ahead to mine, I kept my cup and also gently sit down to eat.

After I left for school, I walked with the students going into the school gate; I saw many parents by the gate who have the time to take their kids to school; it is not as if Mom didn't have time for me, I just don't want her to walk me to school; I'm almost 18 years of age, in two months' time.

"Sabrina!! Candy, my best friend, call me all the way from her chair; there is an empty chair next to her, I wave her back going there.

"Good morning," I grab the chair and I sit down; Candy smiles looking to the door, I am busy getting my books settled at the table, I then notice that the entire classroom is quiet and calm.

I looked at them and I see everyone's eyes galloping at the new student that just walked inside.

Most especially the girls in class; their eyes immediately get hungry, as the new students walk to one of the empty chair and table at the back of the class close to Muna, our schools Selena.

The new student is a tall, handsome young man with an alpha aura; he has the most beautiful eyes, and his smile can make any girl's heart melt. He looks around the class and then finally settles down the chair beside Muna. I look at Candy.

Chapter 2

Candy laugh, and look away, I turn too and same time the teacher walks in, named Mr. Smith.

He asks everyone to take out their books, and open to chapter 10 of the history of USA. A lot of persons in the class didn't bring out theirs, I almost have my own opened at my table, when Mr. Smith approached my table and requested me to read a few of the lines of the chapter, for the sake of other's who did not have the book.

I walk to the front of the class, looking over everyone at their chairs.

Mr. Smith again ask me to begin, and I did that, I read clearly stating each of the words I spoke to the class; and after that I walked back to my chair, behind someone started to clap, I follow everyone and turn, and I find the new student, hands continue to jam for me.

"Thank you, Drake Lowell!" Mr. Smith said.

Thanks to him, we finally know his name. Everyone look away after Drake stop to clap; I sat down, but then again, I turn in his direction and his eyes caught mine, scared, I turn back to Mr. Smith teaching.

After some time, the class ended; Candy left to get some books at the library, she asks me to wait for her at the cafeteria; I walk to our chair, I kept my bag at the table, roaming my eyes to the entire students, they were busy talking but for Muna, she is seated with the new student, Drake.

Drake only just resumed, yet Muna has started to throw herself on him. While I wait for Candy; I decided to take care of the assignment Mr. Smith left for us to do and submit tomorrow...

"You look busy, I heard a man's voice, I look up and my eyes beholds Drake's presence, he pulls another chair and sit down next to me.

From there, I see Muna's eyes getting angry, as she watched me speak with Drake. "I'm sorry; do you think it's okay to seat here with me?"

I turn to him and ask; Drake eyes surveyed everywhere; he laughed taking his bulky eyes back at me. "I think we're both save, don't worry,"

He laughed again; he arose from the chair and leaves my table, smiling so much. I look at him, as he left the cafeteria; Candy come in after a while, I pack up my book and we both went back home together. Candy resides at the next street; just a stone throw to my house, our parents are friends and that makes our relationship easy to flow with.

Candy's mom and mine are both widows and single moms. They were left with the responsibility to take care of two growing teenage girls; that is almost becoming an adult.

Candy is a year old than myself, she is already eighteen years old, so the adult age implies to me; I am yet to be eighteen years old.

Chapter 3

When I got home; I saw mom drawing out some weird designs at the door; she turn her head back to fill in the brush she use with paint bucket, and she sees me strangely staring at the door.

"Baby how was school today?" She fills in her brush with the reddish color of paint and began doing the same thing I caught her doing not long ago.

"Mom! What are you doing? Don't tell me you want to go into home designing, and you want to start with our apartment!" I teased her, but at the same time I was also serious about it.

Mom stop dropping paint at the door, and turn back to me, she held in her laughter but then again brought out another brush, after moving over to the other paint bucket, "Help me baby, and besides, I am doing this for our safety," she said and again started to paint.

"But why are you doing this! You're definitely not making our apartment look friendly," I drop the paint brush on the ground; I went ahead, already facing the door, Immediately I met the door back to Its normal look; not even a grain of paint is seen.

"Okay! What the fuck; is it magic?" I spoke with a question.

Mom laughs, she grabs my hand and we both walk away from the door, we stand at the gate and from there, I saw strange makings at the door. That's! I say but did not know how to finish my statement; that is when mom helped me out!

"That's the called an enchantment mark, it forbids werewolves or anything supernatural to come Into an apartment without being invited," Mom walk back to the door.

"But I thought it only works on vampires?"

I say, and we both walk inside the apartment.

"Not really baby, but the paint was forged to stop any supernatural beings from getting in, without being invited," Mom says, she later asks me to take in the remaining paint bucket to the store room at the back of the house.

I carry the bucket in; I drop the brush next to it.

On my way leaving, my hands accidentally push off a photo we covered years ago; Dad's photo to be precise. At the photo, he is with a friend.

A man whom mom and I have never really gotten to see and the man didn't even attend Dad's burial ceremony, that's why mom carried the photo as well as dad's things, and she locks it in the store room.

The only thing she allowed in was the wedding photos and the time I was born; the version of myself, and mom always adores it till today. She calls me the light that chases darkness away...

Most times, I find it strange, like it is a clue or something, but at the end nothing out of the ordinary appear to happen.

Sabrina; that name once belonged to my late grandma, I did not quite get to meet her, even my grandfather, but I only hear stories about Dad's parents, even Mom's parent's too.

I look at the photo again, and I see Dad smiling with his friend, they both have a beer in their hands.

The man is wearing a shirt that reads; Alpha Ian, Mom says he was Dad's best friend. When I walk back into the apartment and reminded her of the picture she once throws away.
