Chapter 1 It Seems Like Years Have Passed (Part One)

Ominous dark clouds gathered in the sky above and the world below was chaotic.

The cold wind swept through the city.

It was rush hour now. The CB Group headquarters, easily the highest building in A City, stood steadfast amid the swirling clouds.

In front of the building, a big crowd had gathered like the clouds above.

"What do you think is going on with George Jin? He used to spoil Dora Yin so much before. No matter what she wanted, he would give it to her. That was only a year before he had the affair. Have you seen the woman beside him? She is so beautiful, much more attractive than Dora." said a woman to the man beside her.

"Honey, keep your voice down. If George hears you, we won't have a foothold in A City. Everyone knows how cruel he can be. His love for Dora was so strong in the past. How did he have a change of heart so quickly? I think they are hiding something," speculated the man.

The pretty woman glanced at him and smiled.

"You men always find excuses for your mistakes and make us women suffer."

"Forget it. I'm smart enough to not argue with you. I think something big is going to happen today..." His voice trailed off.

Apart from them, no one else dared to discuss it.

Even for rush hour, it was way too crowded.

The building of CB Group had never been so bustling before.

Even though it was crowded, everyone maintained a respectable distance from the four people-two men and two women-standing in the middle.

The two men were handsome and one of the women was beautiful. The other woman, however, didn't quite fit there as she looked very ordinary.

People stood around them like silent spectators. No one dared to whisper, let alone speak.

Everyone waited with bated breath.

The girl in the red hat and a cream white overcoat grabbed the collar of the most handsome man with her trembling hand.

"George, please hug me again. I'm so cold. I'm dying. Just look at me once," she begged. The girl's face was pale and her powerless plea was being ignored.

The man, who she referred to as George Jin, turned around with a cruel smile and looked at her emotionlessly. He stretched out his arm and pulled the other beautiful woman close to him.

"Dora, it's over. Why should I hug you or care about you? You can leave now. Don't show up here again. I don't want to see you for the rest of my life. Now that she is back, I don't need you anymore," he said mercilessly. His cold words mixed with the cold wind quietly floated in the heated atmosphere.

The girl in the red hat was Dora Yin.

The blood drained from her face and her eyes narrowed as she loosened her grip on his clothes. Her hand fell heavily to her side.

Biting her lip, she stared at the man in front of her in disbelief. Her eyes were blood red.

She turned her gaze to the woman, who was snuggling George.

"Cherry! Why...?"

Looking at Dora Yin's pale face, the woman got discomposed and extricated herself from George's arms.

She took Dora Yin's hand and said kindly, "Are you okay, Dora? Why is your face so pale? I..."

Dora Yin was disgusted and stunned at Cherry Lu's fake concern. She shook her head and wrenched her hand from the other woman's grip.

However, no sooner did she do that than Cherry Lu tumbled to the ground.

She supported herself on her elbows. "Dora, are you okay? I care about you. Why did you..." She trailed off with a wounded expression.

Dora Yin frowned and looked at her in confusion. She had only withdrawn her hand because she didn't like her touch. Why did Cherry Lu fall down? What was she implying by asking those questions? Before she could defend herself, a cold wind blew over her head.

The next thing she heard was a crisp slap, followed by a stinging sensation on her cheek.

The force of the slap knocked her to the ground, which was made of cement stones. Immediately, her knees were bruised and blood oozed out.

"Dora, you deserve this slap. You know that Cherry is weak and yet you pushed her? She cares about you but you don't appreciate it. So don't blame me for being ruthless with you," he taunted. His words cut through her heart like a knife.

Dora Yin raised her head to look at George Jin and tears sprang out from her eyes.

"I didn't! You know I wouldn't hurt her. How could I?" she asked defensively.

"George, I'm fine. Don't blame her. She didn't mean it," said Cherry Lu playing the martyr.

"Hah! Who knows?" he asked sarcastically.

Ignoring Dora Yin, he bent over and helped Cherry Lu up, gazing at her adoringly.

Dora Yin was finding it difficult to breathe. She stared miserably at the two people, who were displaying their affection for each other in front of her. Her heart twisted.

Why did George Jin do this to her? Who was it that whispered proclamations of love in her ears day and night?

Who was it that built a snowman, regardless of the cold, just to please her?

Who was it that held her hand tight and walked with her into the marriage hall?

He said that he would love her endlessly and treasure her for the rest of his life.

How did it all disappear in the blink of an eye? It felt like those words were uttered years ago. The promises he had made were like distant dreams now.

He had never hit her, no matter how angry he was.

Whenever they quarreled, he would be the one to lower his head and apologize first.

Once, she had asked him why he did that.

What had he said at that time? He said he compromised because of love and he gave in because he cared about her.

She had been so moved that she cried in his arms. She would never forget that touching gesture of his.

She hadn't even enjoyed those happy days fully. And now he had another woman in his arms. She couldn't believe that the same guy, who never caused harm to a hair on her head, let her shed a tear or even suffer the smallest of grievances, was being so heartless to her.

He had broken all his promises for the sake of this woman.

When he hadn't come home for the last few days, she had assumed he was busy with work, so she hadn't called him.

But this noon, he had sent her a message saying, "Dora, let's divorce."

She had raced out of her house in her slippers in a panic and headed straight to his office to look for him.

And what had she seen? He had walked out of the company with a woman in his arms. They had gone out for lunch together.

She hadn't revealed herself or exposed them. Unable to believe it was actually happening, she had told herself that she was overthinking.

She had waited in a corner in front of the CB building from noon till afternoon when they had gotten off work. So absorbed had she been in her task that she hadn't felt cold or hungry.

Then the thing that she had been dreading had happened. They had come out of the office and hugged each other.

Chapter 2 It Seems Like Years Have Passed (Part Two)

The seriousness in George Jin's eyes made her realize that everything was true. He was really in love with someone else.

And that too with her good friend, whom she had known not too long ago.

For a long time, her mind had been buzzing with thoughts as if she were recalling everything in the past.

"Why?" she asked weakly.

"So, you finally asked this question? Come with me," said George Jin, shooting her a derisive glance. Then he walked back into the building with Cherry Lu in his arm.

Gritting her teeth, Dora Yin tried to stand up but she was in so much pain that she was unable to.

Suddenly, a big hand held her arm and pulled her up firmly.

Dora Yin turned around and saw the man, who had been silently watching everything the whole time. She broke out in a cold sweat.

Every time she saw him, she felt a little scared even though he had always been good to her.

Shrugging off his hand, she limped onward and turned slightly. "Thank you," she muttered.

Then without turning back to look at him, she quickly followed George Jin on unsteady feet.

The man pursed his lips slightly and looked at the girl hobbling away. Anger flashed in his eyes and he clenched his fists. He did not follow her in and instead walked away in the opposite direction.

Suddenly, a roar erupted from the office on the sixty-sixth floor, breaking the silence in the room.

"No! George, tell me what you said is not true! You are lying to me. You are lying to me," cried Dora Yin helplessly. What he just told her came as a shock to her.

She shed bitter tears at the irony of it!

"You said I was a substitute for Cherry. Then why does she look different from me? If we are different, how can I be her substitute?" she asked, trying in vain to reason with him. She couldn't accept this fact. Did it mean that George Jin had never loved her?

All the gentleness, all the love, and all the tenderness was for Cherry Lu all along.

"That doesn't matter. You just need to understand that we have nothing to do with each other anymore. Sign your name and don't show me your face again," he commanded. The man finally let go of Cherry Lu, who was stuck to him like a leech, and walked to the desk. He picked up the contract from the table and a pen.

Walking slowly towards Dora Yin, he looked handsome but dangerous. There was no warmth on his face or in his heart at this moment.

He was like Satan from hell.

With every step he took, she felt like he was stomping on her heart.

She shook her head refusing to accept what was happening and kept stepping backward, trying to escape the soul-crushing eventuality that was to befall her.

Finally, she hit a wall, literally and figuratively.

She placed a quivering hand on her belly protectively without noticing this unconscious action of hers.

"Sign it. Let's part on friendly terms. Be thankful that I have at least left you a considerable alimony. You will live a comfortable life in the future," he said without feeling.

To an outsider, they would seem like strangers. It felt so weird that once upon a time, they had been together day and night.

"Honey, you said I was a substitute. Then why did you call my name again and again in your dreams? Why did you stand in front of me when the enemy raised his knife to stab me? You said the most beautiful thing in the world was my eyes. You loved them so much. You protected me from hurt, fear, hatred and worries. Your love was so strong. Did I imagine it all or was it all fake?" she demanded.

George Jin's cold eyes twinkled. Looking at her sparkling eyes, he paused momentarily.

The woman behind him grabbed his arm and said gently, "George, if you are in a dilemma and you don't want to leave her, it's all right. Anyway, I have gone through so much to be with you. If you change your mind, it will be one more thing I will endure. I have been to hell and back to get back to you, but I will let you go if you don't love me," said Cherry Lu with crocodile tears glistening in her eyes.

George Jin immediately turned around and held her tightly in her arms. "I'm sorry, Cherry. I won't let you suffer anymore. I won't," he said resolutely.

"But what about Dora?" she asked, glancing at Dora Yin, who was ashen by now.

George Jin caressed her and declared, "This time, no one or nothing can stop us from being together."

"Huh!" Dora Yin sneered resentfully. It was ridiculous, wasn't it? But why couldn't she laugh? Why did she cry more and more instead?

'Dora Yin, you have never been a weeper. You had suffered so much in the past with a smile on your face. Why are you so vulnerable now?

Did you get defeated by a man?

Or did you suddenly lose your dignity when you heard them? You have become a sad spectator of their love, ' she chided herself mentally.

"I won't sign it. I won't agree to divorce. You don't think anyone or anything can stop you, right? Well, I will be the one to stop you!" she announced fiercely. She had always been afraid of defying George Jin. She never dared to disobey him. But now she had lost all hope and desperately wanted to die.

If she didn't fear death, why should she be scared of him?

George Jin let go of Cherry Lu and squinted at Dora Yin menacingly.

He grabbed Dora Yin by the neck and slowly increased the pressure.

"Okay. Don't sign it. Just go to hell. I hate you with every fiber of my being," he growled.

She stopped breathing and his handsome face became blurry.

"George, my George. The moon is warm and the night is cold. Just like your appearance and your heart. I know you don't love me anymore, but I really miss my George, who will never come back. A few days ago, he kissed me on the cheek and told me that he was the luckiest man to have met me. It turns out that it was not luck, but a catastrophe. A disastrous moment that has ruined my life. But I don't regret it. Even though I have been betrayed before by Ernest, I was not as desperate as I am now. But it will all be over if I die. So, if you want to kill me, go ahead.

I know that killing me is as easy for you as crushing an ant," said Dora Yin, goading him. She closed her eyes and her body trembled, as tears streaming down her cheeks.

However, she was not as brave as she sounded. She was afraid of death.

But she still wanted to die.

Her tears drenched the back of his big hand. He felt as if his heart was burning and suffocating him.

Loosening his grip on her neck, he stared blankly at her pitiful face.

Dora Yin grabbed the opportunity and ran to the elevator. Just as the doors started closing, she said, "George, I'm not afraid of you. I don't want to escape. I know now that you want to see me dead, but you don't need to do it on your own. I think you will feel guilty if you kill me. And if you feel guilty all your life, how can you be happy? I don't want to divorce you. I will be your wife till I die, George Jin." The doors closed and her voice faded away.

George Jin stared mutely at the elevator doors for a long time before coming back to his senses when Cherry Lu tugged his sleeve.

"George, what does she mean? Will she really kill herself?"

"No. No..." George Jin roared, shaking off Cherry Lu, and dashing into another elevator.

Seeing this, the tenderness on her face disappeared and a sinister look took over her eyes.

She steadied herself with a wicked grin and walked to the window. She looked down at the street below. Good. It was the rush hour. As long as Dora Yin ran towards the traffic, no one could ascertain whether her death was a murder or a car accident.

"Go to hell, Dora!" she screamed spitefully.

Gone was her kind, caring persona.

A malicious expression slowly crept on to her face.

Below on the street, what was destined to happen happened.

Stumbling out of the elevator, George ran out of the building. His eyes anxiously darted in every direction looking for Dora Yin.

But he didn't see her.

Bang! There was a loud noise and a crowd quickly gathered in the middle of the road.

Chapter 3 Old Times Cannot Come Back

At that moment, everything went dark in front of George. He dashed towards the crowd.

He blocked out all the people and conversations around him, focusing solely on her.

He didn't even notice a man who was greeting him.

He just kept pushing through the crowd, frantically trying to reach her.

He only had one goal right now: to find her.

However, when he saw the woman, he was aghast. He stood there in a daze, not wanting to believe that the girl, who was lying in a pool of blood with a smile on her face, was his Dora.

She had lost so much blood. How could she still smile?

In the past, he always said she was stupid.

Now, she was lying at his feet in such a terrible state.

Everything ached inside him and his hands and feet trembled uncontrollably.

He told himself that it was a prank. She used to be naughty and wayward.

She must be making a fool of him again. It must be a game.

Did she do this to punish him for abandoning her? He had told her that she was a substitute and that he had never loved her.

But if he didn't love her, how could his heart ache so badly when he saw her lying in the blood?

"Stop laughing, stop laughing!" he screamed desperately, shocking the noisy crowd around him.

"Mr. Jin, I've called an ambulance, but I'm afraid that Mrs. Jin... " Douglas, the right-hand man of George, trailed off unable to continue speaking. His eyes, too, were red and swollen.

"Shut up!" roared George, who stood there motionless.

"I'm dying. Are you happy now? Geordie, my Geordie," bleated Dora. She didn't even ask George to hold her or save her.

George's face lost color. He suddenly squatted down, held Dora in his arms, and asked firmly, "What did you call me just now? Tell me!"

"Shh! Why are you so fierce? Geordie, I'm very tired. I want to sleep but I have to tell you a heartbreaking secret. I've regained my memories of my childhood. We have known each other for a long time. It's just that you don't recognize me and I don't remember you. Ha-ha! It's ridiculous. I just remembered everything. God really likes to play tricks on people.

Cherry must have had plastic surgery. Didn't she look exactly like me before? That's why you picked me as her substitute. I just remembered that she is my twin sister but she made me suffer so much," Dora explained weakly. She was holding on as though she didn't want to die yet.

She had some unfinished business to take care of. How cruel and vicious her sister was! She didn't know until now that she had been fooled by her twin all this while.

"No! How could this be? I have been wondering why she didn't call me Geordie. I thought she forgot about it. It turns out that she was never the one," murmured George, looking at Dora grief-stricken.

He stared at the thin and pale woman in front of him, cursing himself for what he had done to her.

Why did they end up like this? Why?

"Geordie, it's okay. You know it now. Ahhh, it hurts. Goodbye!" said Dora feebly. Her hand, which was caressing his cheek, fell to her side heavily.

She slowly closed her eyes and smiled. She looked angelic.

"Dora, Dora! You can't leave me. You can't..." howled George in pain, holding her body tight, unaffected by the blood that was all over her body.

He begged her to stay, to not leave him alone. He had a lot to say.

He always thought that they would be together forever. Even if they had a misunderstanding and separated for various reasons, a voice in his heart always said that they would reunite in the future.

Now, her voice was weak and the temperature of her body was slowly coming down.

Only then did it sink in that she would never come back to him.

When she was eight years old, her parents brought her to the Jin family. George had just lost his parents.

He was young and angry and didn't allow anyone to get close to him. He just sat there in a daze not eating or drinking.

Ignoring her parents' warning, she walked towards him slowly.

Staring at him with her crystal-clear eyes, she said, "Your parents would be very sad if they knew that you are sitting here like this. They would have hoped that you would take care of yourself. Why don't you fulfill their dreams and wishes? They are dead. If you remain like this, you will be unfilial and they will regret it even in their deaths."

Her words had the desired effect on him. He raised his head and stared at her. He was instantly attracted by her heart-warming smile.

He would never forget what the little girl had said to him that day.

Even though years had passed, her words, her smile, and her bright eyes had been engraved in his heart.

There was a terrible silence around. People looked sadly at the heartbreaking sight of the man holding the love of his life in his arms.

George looked so different right now from the arrogant, powerful man who gave hell to people and made them tremble in their shoes with just a stern look.

Suddenly, there was a loud gasp in the crowd.

Standing behind George, Douglas saw something and his face turned pale and anxious.

"Mr. Jin, why is there blood between Mrs. Jin's legs? Is she pregnant?" asked Douglas in a low voice.

George's guttural cry tore through the noisy street.

He had not cried since he was twelve years old. He thought he would never cry again as he had no more tears left.

Why was he feeling so helpless and regretful at this moment?

He held the woman, who was covered in blood, tightly in his arms, and yowled in grief.

No words could express the despair and suffocating pain in his heart.

What had he done? He forced her to commit suicide and killed his own child.

"I'm here to take Dora home. George, you have no right to stop me anymore," declared a man in a black suit, striding towards them. His face was also pale but his handsome eyes were shining.

There were different versions of what happened next.

They said that Dora was taken away by Rodney, the owner of Dragon Palace. He was the most mysterious man and kept a low profile.

People said that he loved Dora very much. "Dora, what hurts you hurts me as well. If you die, I'll die with you," he had proclaimed.

That day, a hundred people, all wearing black suits, armed with shotguns, had accompanied Rodney.

If George didn't cooperate, he would die.

Another story went that George disregarded Rodney's threat and disappeared with Dora in his arms. However, no one saw Dora ever since and no one knew whether she was dead or alive.

However, neither had a perfect ending and both stories were filled with sadness.

"If we knew the end of the story earlier, would you still waste your time on me? I want to think quietly.

One couldn't balance love and hatred.

I couldn't turn off my mind even after I turned off the light.

Every beat of my heart invited the suffering of love.

Every minute and every second, the fire was burning.

It would be so good to be burned to ashes.

I told myself never to miss you.

I believed I was going to

forgot you.

Reconciled with loneliness again, I couldn't get it and I wouldn't beg for it, I didn't need others to tell me what to do.

At the bottom of the sea, I could only rely on myself..."

The song "Suffering" was playing on a loop in a vintage courtyard.

A beautiful and gentle fifteen-year-old girl was sitting at a round table. Her fingers danced on the keyboard of her laptop from morning to noon.

A seventeen-year-old boy walked into the courtyard. He frowned at the young girl in the garden.

"Cathy, you're writing again. Isn't it meaningless to write these things every day?"

Hearing this, Cathy looked up at the young man and pouted slightly. "Why is it meaningless? These are all precious treasures. Andy, look, I will write a novel and tell everyone about their love."

Raising his eyebrows, the young man, called Andy, walked towards Cathy.

He gently caressed her hair and sighed, "But you are not in good health. It takes a lot of energy to write novels. Does your mother know about this?"

"Andy, please don't tell Mom, or she will be angry," begged Cathy, shaking her head.

"Well, okay. But you need to rest now. Okay?" Unable to resist the sparkle in Cathy's eyes, he relented.

Smiling brightly, Cathy pursed her lips and nodded.

Andy stared at Cathy with his deep eyes. Her beautiful smile dazzled him.

He would be willing to do anything for her as long as she smiled that way.

Cathy stood up, tugged Andy, and ran out.

The soft laughter and the exasperated sigh vanished.

As a gentle breeze blew across the yard, the words appeared on the screen of the computer.

Chapter X She wanted to ask, "Honey, you said I was a substitute. Then why did you call my name again and again in your dreams? Why did you stand in front of me when the enemy raised his knife to stab me? You said the most beautiful thing in the world was my eyes. You loved them so much. You protected me from hurt, fear, hatred and worries. Your love was so strong. Did I imagine it all or was it all fake? George, my George. The moon is warm and the night is cold. Just like your appearance and your heart.

Chapter 1 "Dora, your husband has run away. Why are you still giggling there?" A sharp voice came from outside as a girl kicked the door open in a hurry.

Wearing a white wedding dress and holding flowers in her hands, Dora slowly turned around and looked at the girl who kicked the door.
