Chapter 1 The ball party

"This can't be. Father, please do something. Don't let him take me away." I was pleaded with a shaking voice. Tears are already pooling in my eyes. I walk to where my mother was.

"Mother, please say something." But my mother was also helpless. My sister Lyla was there beside my father, staring at me angrily.

"Please, your Highness Moira is still very young. And..."

"Enough, did you just say she's young? She is nineteen years old. And who are you to dictate for me? I will choose who I want, and that is Moira." He says, sitting on the chair facing all over the living room.

His golden eyes are still on me. I don't know what I've gotten into. Vampires are my biggest fear. I can't bear seeing them, not to mention living with them. Now the king is asking for my hand in marriage; he's not even asking; he's commanding, and we don't have a choice.

He's the same man I saw in the palace when I and Lyla went to the general ball party, drawing blood from a lady in his hand. The scene appears on my head, sending a shiver down my spine.

And I told Lyla that I dont want to go to the party, but she insisted. If I had stayed at home, this wouldn't have happened.

*****Flash Back *****

The day of the general ball party has finally come, and excitement could be seen on people's faces. The party has been the talk of the town. I was still asleep on the bed when Lyla returned from the bathroom with a towel tied around her chest down to her mid-thigh.

"Stand up, go take your bath, and let's get ready for the party," Lyla tapped me.

"I already told you I'm not going; I don't feel like it," I grumble on the bed, my eyes still closed.

"What do you mean by that? You better stand up. Mother has made a dress for us for the party. And I bet you, it's going to be fun. Now stand up, Lyla says with a smile as I try to stand up from the bed, still feeling sleepy.

Lyla hit my head softly so I could be fully awake before I walked to the bathroom to shower.

I walked out of the bathroom, done taking my bath. I wiped the water off my body with a towel. Lyla brought out a box under the bed. She opened it, bringing out two beautiful dresses.

"This is yours." Lyla handed one of the dresses to me. The dress is a long, straight gown. Its sleeves were thin and made with flowers. It has a long slit on the left side, running up to my thigh. The gown has a V-shaped neck, making my breasts pop out a little.

Lyla's dress is a blue flour-length gown with an off-shoulder sleeve. The front of the dress was made with flowers. The two gowns look elegant and beautiful.

We wore our dress, and Lyla helped me with my hair and little makeup. I am not a fan of makeup, but Lyla insisted. She did hers, and we left the house.

I don't really see a big deal in this party. The general ball party is for everyone, though. Both vampires and humans will be present at the party. The party always takes place in the palace.

We got to the junction where Mr. Clifford parked his carriage for transport. Mr. Clifford is one of the transporters in our community; he uses his carriage for transportation to earn money.

We entered the carriage and met two other people in it. With the look of their dressing, we are all heading to the same place.

In no time, we got to the palace. We paid Mr. Clifford six silver coins before getting down from his carriage. It was a nice sight, as the palace is so large and beautiful. This is the first time I have seen and will be entering the palace. The music played in the palace hall could be heard outside, where we are.

Lyla and I got to the gate entrance, and a guard led us to the palace hall. Getting to the hall, people were going in and coming out of the hall. The hall is very big, with a lot of people in it. We walked inside to a corner of the hall where there was an empty chair. I sat down to observe my surroundings before Lyla stood up. "I want to get something to drink over there; I will be right back," she said before leaving. I was still looking around the hall. Some people are dancing, some are sitting down as I am, and some are even making out openly. Then I realized it had been over thirty minutes since Lyla had returned.

My eyes scanned through the hall to find her. I'm still looking for my sister, when a man walked up to me. He asked for a dance, but I declined politely, and he left afterwards.

I felt someone staring at me, but when I turned to take a glance at the person, I saw no one. Maybe it's my imagination... I thought inwardly.

Later, I saw my sister on the dance floor with a man dancing together. I wanted to walk to her, but I decided to leave her to have fun.

I walked to where I was before I stood up. Another man approached me, but he is a vampire. He has this flirty, arrongant tone: ''Hey beauty, can I have a dance with you?'', he says as he stretches his hand forward with a smirk on his face. "I'm sorry, I am not interested in dance'', I declined, looking up. The man sat on a chair beside me. "Alright, dear, I am CODY BROOK..you look gorgeous'', he complimented while his red eyes were on my clevage. I don't even know him, and he is already informal with me. Feeling uncomfortable, I adjusted my dress.

"Thanks, I think I will be on my way now," I uttered before standing to leave. I walked out of the room to receive fresh air and to run from that man, CODY, or whatever his name is. I decided to give myself a tour of the palace. I headed towards the other side of the palace building. Fortunately for me, I didn't meet any guards on the way. I sighted a large door and knocked on it, but there was no response. I pushed the door open. I walked into a corridor. The wall was designed with different artworks. I was still checking the wall as I moved further in the corridor. I didn't realize that I had gone deep into the palace.

Then I heard a scream! I jolted in shock. "What sound was that?!". I murmured and looked around. Curiosity got the better of me, and I wanted to know where the scream came from. I moved forward and came across a man holding a lady, his mouth on the lady's neck. I stopped instantly, shocked at the scene. I was frightened, and I covered my mouth with my hands to stop me from screaming.

The man's eyes were red as blood!. Blood could be seen in the corner of the man's mouth; the man is a vampire. I've read a lot about vampires in the library. They are ruthless, arrogant, and scary creatures. I tried to run, but the man was faster and stronger than I was. The man grabbed my hand and slammed me against the wall.

"Little human, what are you doing here?" he questioned as his gaze was on me, sending strives down my spines.

"I...., I was only.... Please, let me go. I stuttered with a shaking voice. This is the first time I'm seeing a vampire drinking human blood.

"You've entered the wrong... ", Before he finished his statement, a voice from behind could be heard.

"Your highness, my king," the man said, turning his head in the direction the voice came from, and I used the opportunity to escape from the man. I ran out of the palace as fast as my legs could carry me.

"Why are you running like a madwoman? " Lyla questioned from behind. I turned to her... "Oh my, you won't believe what I saw just now! I said, breathing heavily as I put my hand on my chest.

"What did you see?" Please, let's go home; it's late already!. Lyla stated that she did not want to listen to me anymore. We sighted Mr. Clifford's carriage, which took us home.

Chapter 2 What letter is that

(POV Alexander).

"My king, your highness," Thomas called. I turned to see where the voice was calling from while Thomas walked towards where I was.

"What is it again? I raised an eyebrow, looking at him."My king, some intruders came to attack our soldiers at the eastern border." Thomas explained as he bowed his head.

Thomas is a vampire, but not pure-blooded. He has been with me since my childhood, and he has been a good friend even before I became the king. He is one of my most trusted men.

"So, have you informed the chief army about the attack?"

"Yes, my King," Thomas responded."I want you to do something for me, Thomas." I stated this while looking at Thomas.

"Yes, my King, anything for you." He muttered.

"I want you to find out about that girl that was here with me before you came in." I instructed, turning to where the corpse of the other lady I drank her blood was, and I pointed, "Clear that mess." I ordered as I walked out of the palace to my room.

(NEXT DAY AT THE MILLER'S HOUSE)

The door is being banged, but I was too tired to respond before my mother stormed into the room. "When are you two going to stand up? It's morning already." She yelled at Lyla, and I was still sleeping on the bed while she put her hand on her waist.

Yesterday was very stressful, and we are still on the bed due to the stress we went through at the party.

"I'm heading to the shop; you two should do the housework before coming to meet me," she stated before leaving our room.

(SLOVENIA PALACE)

POV Leander

I was sitting on my throne when Thomas walked in. "Greetings Milord". Thomas greets him as he bows.

"I've gotten the information and everything about the girl, my king." Thomas announced this as he stood before me.

"Go ahead," I instructed as I sipped wine from the golden cup in my hand.

"Her name is Moira Miller; she's a human, and she lives in western Slovenia with her parents and her sister named Lyla. She's nineteen years old." I stare at Thomas as I also listen to him.

"Her mother is a seamstress, while her father is a farmer.

"Oh, so does she have any romantic affairs with anyone?"

"No, your highness."

"Huh." A smirk appears on my face. I stood up from my throne. Immediately, Thomas bared his head at me as a sign of respect.

"Send a letter to her family; I want to have an important discussion with them tomorrow." I ordered before leaving.

I don't really know what's going on with me.

Since I set my eyes on that girl the day I saw her roaming aimlessly in the palace, I've not been myself. I've been thinking about her; I can't even get her off my head as much as I try. Her beautiful face, smooth, flawless skin, round ass, and full breasts are the only things in my head. And there's also something I can't explain that is drawing me to that girl.

To my greatest surprise, this is the first time I'm feeling this way toward a woman, a mere human. I never fancy women and am not really attracted to them.

(MILLER'S HOUSE)

POV Moira

A knock interrupted the peaceful dinner we were having. All eyes were on the door when, in an instant, we heard the knock.

"Who could that be this night?" My father asked as he was still staring at the door. He turns his head to the right towards Lyla.

"Lyla, check who's at the door." Lyla stood up to check who the person was. She walks to the door.

"Who's at the door?" she questioned loudly.

"It's the post office man." She opened the door and collected a letter from the man before closing the door.

"What letter is that?" Mother asked as she eyed the letter in Lyla's hand.

"It's from the palace," Lyla responds as she walks to the dining table and hands over the letter to Father before sitting down on her seat and continuing to eat.

When I heard the letter come from the palace, the scene of what happened at the palace yesterday appeared in my head, and my heart skipped.

"Darling, What's the content of the letter?" The mother asked with a curious look on her face.

The father opened the letter and read it for a while. He pauses suddenly, and he raises his head to stare at my mom wide-eyed.

"The king wants to see us in the palace tomorrow," the father announced.

"That is not even possible; how can the king call for our attention?" Mother asked before collecting the letter from him. She read the letter and was shocked, too.

I looked at Lyla in confusion, as this is the first time we are getting a letter from the palace. There are over millions of people in the Slovenian kingdom, so how can the king invite a mere human to the palace?

"Mother, this might be a fake letter, because I'm finding it hard to believe," I commented, staring at my mother.

"I'm also thinking so. It's a fake letter; the letter does not have the royal stamp." Mother said.

After dinner, Lyla and I cleared the table, and we all went to bed.

****

It's been two days now since we received the letter from the post officer concerning the invitation to the palace. Though we were not sure if the letter was from the palace, we didn't bother to go to the palace.

I keep having nightmares about the vampire I saw at the party. Either he is trying to kill me or he is trying to suck blood from me. We humans don't like associating with vampires, knowing how dangerous they are.

I opened my eyes from sleep in fright, panting heavily, and looked around the house in fear. A bead of sweat could be seen all over my face; beside me was Lyla, still sleeping. I rise up from the bed to get a glass of water before returning to the bed.

I lay on the bed, my eyes fixed on the ceiling, unable to sleep because of the nightmare.

I woke Lyla so we could do the housework together before my mother and father woke. I wash the dishes while she cooks.

We went to freshen up immediately, and we were done with everything we were doing before breakfast.

I came out of the bathroom with a towel around me. Lyla was dressed up and ready to go out.

"I don't think I will follow my father to the farm today." I said I was walking to the wardrobe to get my clothes.

"And why is that so?" Well, you don't have to tell me that; inform Father yourself." She restored before exiting the room. I put on my clothes and tied my hair into a ponytail before walking out of the room.

Getting to the dinner, father and mother are already seated and eating. I walked towards them before taking a seat beside Lyla.

I walked to the living room after washing the dish we used to eat for breakfast.

"I'm already heading to the shop," mother said as she came out of the room, holding a bag in her arm. Walking up to the door, she was about to open it when we heard a knock. Mother opened the door and was shocked. She suddenly bowed her head, and immediately her eyes landed on the

person. Who could that be? I thought inwardly.

"

Chapter 3 I'm not leaving without her

Your highness, greetings," the mother greets the person still bowing. My father, from the corner of the living room, stares at my mother in confusion before walking towards the door where she still stands. Getting there, he also bowed.

"Greetings, my king, please... come in," my father says in shock and a shaky voice. The king? Definitely, the letter we received that day was real.

The figure walked inside, and it turned out to be my worst nightmare, hell! My eye is now wide open in shock; I felt like passing out. The vampire I saw that day was actually the king of our kingdom. I'm finding it very hard to believe. As he walked inside to sit, his eyes met mine, and a mischievous smirk appeared on his face.

"Greetings, Your Highness." Lyla was greeted with a sweet smile. Still in shock, my mother hit me softly to greet the king. I snapped out of my shocked state before bowing to greet the king. But to my surprise, his eyes are not red; that's not even my point. What is he here for? I hope he doesn't recognize me. I feel someone gaze at me, knowing the person, but I dare not look up. I continue looking down at my well-trimmed fingers, nervous.

"Your Highness, what do we owe this visit?" My father finally spoke up after so much silence in the living room.

"I sent a letter to your family." The king replied, and he paused for a minute. His gaze fixed on my father in question.

"But you decided not to come. Defiling your king's order. Do you know the implications of your actions?"

He continued with a wicked smile that made all of us in the living room shiver in fear. I have never encountered the king before, apart from the day I saw him at the palace, and I was not even aware he was the king until now. Rumors have it that he is very cruel and heartless. He doesn't forgive anyone, regardless of the person's position or tittle. My heart skipped at the thought.

"Milord, we are sorry for not coming. We dare not go against your commands. Please spare our lives." My father pleads, falling down on his knees.

"Huh, I will, because I won't like to be on the bad side or hurt my soon-to-be in-law." He stated this as his eyes landed on me. What does that mean?

Mother and father looked at the king, unsure of what the king was talking about. Lyla, on the other side, adjusted her clothes and her hair, smiling like she had won a jackpot. She had been acting strangely since the king arrived.

"You don't understand what I meant? Alright, I will like to marry one of your daughters." He announced it, with his gaze still on me. Why is he looking at me like I'm his prey?

Everyone gasps at his words in surprise; our jaws drop almost touching the ground. A human marrying a vampire-that's not possible. Father had made it possible for us not to associate with vampires; he will definitely not agree with the king for our hands in marriage.

"Milord...." My father started, but he cut him off.

"I don't have much time to waste here. It is Moira I want to get married to, and that's final." He announced it once again, leaving everyone in shock.

"What?!... Me?" I ask in a shaky voice.

"Yes,", he answered briefly, staring at me. Lyla, who is beside my father, is still in shock mode, her mouth wide open.

"I'm leaving now, and I'm not leaving without her. Send the bride price list to the palace as soon as possible." He says it in an authoritative tone.

"This can't be. Father, please do something. Don't let him take me away." I was pleased with a shaking voice. Tears are already pooling in my eyes. I walked to where my mother was."Mother, please say something."

But my mother was also helpless. My sister Lyla was there beside my father, staring at me angrily.

"Please, your Highness Moira is still very young. And..."

"Enough; did you just say she's young? She is nineteen years old. And who are you to dictate for me? I will choose who I want, and that is Moira." He says this, sitting on the chair, facing all over the living room.

His golden eyes are still on me. I don't know what I've gotten into. Vampires are my biggest fear. I can't bear seeing them, not to mention living with them. Now the king is asking for my hand in marriage; he's not even asking; he's commanding, and we don't have a choice.

The scene appears in my head, sending a shiver down my spine. And I told Lyla that she didn't want to go to the party, but she insisted. If I had stayed at home, this wouldn't have happened. He stands up from his seat.

"Let's go, dear," he says, stretching his hand forward for me to accept. I stare at his hand for a second and say,

"I'm not going anywhere with you. Let me be." I moved back to where my father is.

"Alright, dear, we can do this in a hard way; your choice, Markus!" He muttered with a wicked smirk before calling someone from outside. The door opened immediately, and a huge, muscular man came inside. He walked towards the king before bowing his head.

"I want you to bring her out to the carriage by all means." He commanded. I felt like a bucket of water was emptied on me. I moved back before the guard could reach me.

"Fine, I will go myself. But please, can I have a minute with my family?" I question it in fear."Alright, just five minutes. I will be waiting outside.
