Chapter 1 Confused

CAMILA POINT OF VIEW

My life hasn't been easy since I turned eighteen years old. I remember watching everyone turn into their wolf form. But I remained human, no wolf and no mate.

I was lost in thought that I didn't know when my mum walked into my room.

"Camila," my mum yelled, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"I've been standing here for the past twenty minutes but you refused to answer me, what level of disrespect is that," she sneered, with hatred evident in her voice.

"I'm sorry mum, I didn't know when you walked in," I apologised in my calmest tone, because I don't want to piss her off again which might lead to her hitting me.

I've become a punching bag for my mother, any little mistake she is going to hit me. I've learnt to adapt to the pain and hitting. Even my dad and my brother can't save me when she hits me, they just watch her while she hits me.

Since I didn't shift to my wolf form when others were shifting during the full moon, the hatred in my mother's heart began to spread. Rumours began to spread that I'm a witch, which I refuse to believe because my mother and my father are a pure breed of werewolf.

I now live in the shadow of myself, I don't go out, I don't socialise with other members of the pack, because they consider me a living curse.

The hot slap that landed on my cheeks made me aware that my mother is still in the room with me, "You this disgusting, wolfless piece of shit, you have grown wing and you are now talking back at me," she hit me again, as I fought the tears that threatened to flow down my eyes.

I think I'm used to the pain, but no I'm not. It breaks my heart to know that my mother is the one hitting me.

"Next time when I'm talking to you, you don't talk back," she pulled my hair, and I screamed in pain.

One of the maids rushed inside my room. "Luna, the Alpha requests for your presence," the maid reports, and she bows her head down, looking at her feet.

"I'm still coming back for you," she told me, and she hissed and walked out of my room, not without banging my door in annoyance.

I curled my bed in the bed, bawling my eyes out. A few minutes later, there was a light knock on my door, and I shook in fear thinking it was my mother again. On another thought, my mum doesn't knock on my door, she alway bash in.

The door creaked open, and my brother, Aiden, stood at the entrance of the door with pity in his eyes. I quickly looked away from him, and fixed my gaze on my bookshelf.

Lately, I've been feeling one kind of strange connection between us which is not supposed to be. Such a connection only happens between fated mates, and the moon goddess can't mate me to my brother. It has never happened in the history of werewolves.

"Camila," Aiden called in a soothing voice, funny enough that made me calm down which is totally strange.

"Aiden," I called back in a soft tone.

"Mummy hit me again," I told him, sniffing back my tears. He walked towards my bed and pulled me in his warm embrace and it felt so good.

"I was hearing everything at the entrance, I'm the one that instructed the maid to bail you out," he muttered.

"I'm sorry you have to be treated like that," he detached from the embrace, and he cupped my face into his large palms.

I was lost staring at his captivating green eyes, as he brought one finger to wipe away the tears that were rolling down my face. I felt a spark when his finger came in contact with my face, which I know he felt too because he moved his act away from my face immediately.

"What is wrong?" I asked curiously, searching his eyes for an answer.

"Ehem, hee... No...." he stammered, and I kept staring intently at him, even though he tried to avoid my gaze.

"I have a meeting with my father, I will talk to you later," he said, as he walked out of my room.

I held his hand, "Not even a peck, Aiden," I pouted, and he reluctantly pecked me on my forehead. "Not like I can reject your pout," he whispered, with that he walked out of my room.

I lay down back on my bed, as I resumed back to my depressing thought. I didn't know when I drifted off to sleep. I suddenly woke up with a jeck, because I had a bad dream which felt so real, cold sweat broke out on my face, as I shook in fear.

After calming down a little, I heard a loud agonising scream that made my heart skip a beat.

"What happened?" I muttered under my breath, as I hurriedly wore a robe on my dress as I walked out of my room.

I saw a maid rushing to the direction of my father's study, and I tried to stop her to ask what happened, but she seemed in a rush.

'Did Aiden and father get into a fight?' different thoughts filled my mind.

But what I saw was far worse than the fight, what I saw broke my heart into millions pieces. I fell down on my knees with a loud thud, and I screamed my lungs out. My tears blocked my vision, that I didn't feel the pain on my knees.

Chapter 2 Unexpected death

AIDEN'S POV

After I left Camila's room, I was lost in thought. Why did I feel that way when I touched her face? What is wrong with me?

I walked into my room to take a cold shower, and to remove any wrong thought of Camila from my mind.

After I was done, I was walking toward my dad's office when I heard a loud, painful wolf cry. My heart raced. Something was wrong, very wrong. Without thinking, I started running. Every step I took felt heavier, I couldn't shake the bad feeling thatI felt in my gut.

When I reached the office, the door was opened a little. Slowly, I pushed it wider, hoping, and praying that everything was fine. But it wasn't. The moment I stepped into his office, my entire world came crashing down.

My dad was on the floor, covered in the pool of his own blood.

"Dad?" My voice shook with emotions as I rushed to him.

"Dad!!!!" I screamed out my lungs. I dropped to my knees, the cold hard floor wasn't helping matters.

"No... no, no, this can't be real." My hands trembled as I grabbed his shoulder and shook him.

"Dad! Wake up! Please, wake up!" I pleaded, my voice cracking. It didn't matter how much I shook him or how loud I yelled. His body stayed still, he didn't responded to me.

I pressed my ear against his chest, hoping that I'd hear his heartbeat. But there was nothing. No rise of his chest, no breath. He was gone.

Tears threatened to roll down my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I couldn't believe this. My dad was the strongest person I knew. This wasn't supposed to happen to him, especially not like this.

"Dad, come on! You can't leave me like this!" I cried out, my voice already breaking, I couldn't hold back the tears anymore as I let them follow down freely.

I grabbed his hand, squeezing it as if that could bring him back. But his hand was cold, lifeless. The pain that pierced my heart was unbearable.

Suddenly, I heard the sound of glass breaking as it snapped me out of my shock. My head jerked up, as I moved my eyes to the opened and broken window. I saw a shadowy figure jumping down from the window disappearing into the darkness.

"Hey!" I shouted, stumbling to my feet and running toward the window. But it was no use, the person was already gone.

I stood there, breathless, my heart pounding in my chest like a drum. My hands clenched into a tight fists. Whoever that was, they killed my dad.

"Aarrggggggg" I screamed out, unable to control my anger as I punched the wall.

Before I could move or even think about what to do next, the door behind me burst open.

"Aiden!" My mom called me worried as she rushed into the room, her eyes wide with fear.

"What happened? What-" she stuttered.

She suddenly stopped talking when her gaze landed on Dad laying dead on the floor. I saw the realisation hit her, and her face drained of all colour.

"No... no, no, no!" she screamed, running over to his body. She fell to her knees beside him, just like I had.

"Please, not you! Please!" Her voice was breaking, tears rolling down from her eyes uncontrollably.

She grabbed his arm, shaking him hard, as if that could wake him up. "Wake up! You can't leave us, you can't!"

"Mum..." I whispered, feeling my throat tighten. The pain in her voice, the sight of her crying over Dad's body, it was tearing me apart.

"He's... he's gone." I muttered, as my sister Camila also walked into the scene.

Camila looked up at me, with her brown doe eyes, her face pale, shaking her head like she couldn't believe it. "No, Aiden. This can't be real. This isn't happening."

"Don't tell me my dad is dead, that is a lie," she mumbled, refusing to believe me.

It was the truth, and I hated it. I walked towards Camila, and pulled her into my embrace as she sobbed against my chest.

"I'm going to find who did this," I said, my voice low, filled with anger. "And when I do, they'll pay."

Mom didn't respond. She just kept crying, her hands clinging to Dad's body like she was afraid to let go. It was hard to watch. I wanted to comfort her, but there was nothing I could do. Nothing could make this better.

The next morning, everything felt different. The air was heavier. The house was quieter. And Dad's office... it felt like a graveyards. The memory of him lying there, covered in blood, flashed back into my brain. I stood by his desk, staring at the papers scattered across it.

'I miss him, I miss how he scolds me whenever I do something wrong. Who is going to scold me now that he is gone?' I thought, as my heart contracted in pain.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing. Someone had killed him, and I was going to figure out who.

I started searching through the desk drawers, pulling out papers, documents, anything that might give me a clue.

There had to be something, some kind of answer. As I opened one of the drawers, I froze. My hand freezed over a small, neatly folded letter. It wasn't like the rest of the papers. It looked... important.

"What's this?" I muttered to myself, pulling it out.

Before I could read it, the door creaked open as my heart skipped a beat.

I turned to see Mom standing in the doorway and I breathed in relief. She looked exhausted, her eyes red and puffy from crying all night.

"Oh, it's you, Mom," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

"How are you handling all of this?" I wasn't sure what I wanted to hear. Maybe I just didn't want to think about Dad being gone.

She walked in slowly, closing the door behind her. "It's not going to be easy," she said softly, her voice low. I could hear the pain she was trying to hide. "But I'll try to be strong."

"Aiden, what are you doing?" she asked softly, stepping into the room.

"I'm looking for answers, Mum," I said, holding up the letter. "I found this in Dad's desk."

Her eyes widened slightly. "A letter? From who?"

"I don't know yet. I haven't read it," I said, my fingers trembling as I opened the letter.

The writing inside was neat, but the words made my blood run cold.

"This is only the beginning. You're next."

I stared at the letter, my heart pounding in my chest. Someone wasn't just after Dad. They were coming for me too.

'Who the fuck put the letter here?' I mumbled.

Chapter 3 Eavesdropping

Aiden's POV

"What is written on the letter?" She asked inquisitively.

"It is nothing serious Mum, just an invitation to the next park meeting," I lied through my teeth, as she took a deep breath in.

I dropped the letter back in the drawer.

She cleared her throat, looking serious. "Aiden, we need to talk."

I moved away from Dad's desk and sat down across from her. Mom reached out, holding my hand tight. Her eyes were filled with tears she was fighting to hold back.

"I know it's not going to be easy, now that you've lost your father," she said, her voice cracking.

A single tear rolled down her cheek, and I felt my own heart twist in pain. Losing Dad was a huge pain for all of us, including the pack members.

"I know, Mom," I said, trying to sound strong, but inside, I felt like I was drowning.

"I'm trying... and I need you to stay strong for me and Camila. We need you." I added, mom nodded, her eyes soft but sad.

Then she said the words I'd been dreading to hear since the whole incident happened."You know you're next to take over the pack, right? But before you can, you need to find your mate."

I swallowed hard. It wasn't the first time I'd heard this, but it felt heavier now. Dad was gone, and now it was up to me. But without a mate, I couldn't fully take my place as Alpha.

"I know, Mom," I muttered, rubbing my temples in frustration.

"I've searched everywhere, within our pack and even in the neighbouring packs. I don't think the moon goddess has given me a mate." I uttered in disappointment.

Mom's face hardened slightly. She wasn't going to let me off easy. "You can't give up. You can't be like your sister," she said, her voice firm. "Camila hasn't found her wolf yet, and she still hasn't met her mate. You need to do better than that."

"Do you want to give out your position as the Alpha to another person? Do you want all your father's effort to be given out to someone else?" She asked, and I knew she was trying her best not to snap at me.

Her words stung, even though I knew they were meant to push me. I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of my father's death and now the pressure to lead the pack, everyone is looking up to me. Everything was crashing down on me all at once.

"I'm trying, Mom," I said quietly. "I'll keep searching."

She placed her hand on my shoulder, giving me a small, comforting squeeze. "You're strong, Aiden. You'll find her. I know you will."

But something felt off. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone else was in the room, someone listening. My wolf stirred inside me, sensing something nearby. But I didn't say anything. I just sat there, trying to gather my thoughts.

Camila's POV

I stood outside the office, my heart racing. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but when I saw Mom head in there to talk to Aiden, I couldn't help myself. I pressed my ear against the door, careful not to make a sound.

At first, I just heard them talking about Dad. The pain hit me again, sharp and real, like a knife in my chest. Losing him... it still didn't feel real. But then, the conversation shifted, and I heard Mom talking about Aiden becoming Alpha.

"You need to find your mate first," she said.

I bit my lip, holding back the tears that were threatening to fall. Of course, Aiden would find his mate. He is the future Alpha. He is strong, and capable. Everyone loved him. And me? I didn't even have my wolf yet. I am 20 years old, and I still haven't shifted. Mom didn't hide her disappointment about that.

"You can't be like your sister," Mom said.

Those words hurt more than I could've imagined. I pressed myself tighter against the wall, trying to breathe quietly. I didn't want them to hear me. I felt like a failure. I hadn't found my wolf, and I hadn't found my mate either. I was weak in their eyes, and that hurt more than anything.

I wanted to run, to get away from their words. But before I could move, someone grabbed my arm. I gasped and turned around, my eyes wide in fear.

It was Ethan, Aiden's Beta. He had caught me spying. "What are you doing here, Camila?" he whispered, his face serious but calm.

"I-I wasn't... I didn't mean to..." I stammered my voice barely above a whisper. I could feel my cheeks burning with embarrassment.

"I was just... I wanted to help." I stuttered, and he looked at me with pity.

Ethan sighed, his grip loosening slightly. "I know you want to help," he said softly, "but eavesdropping won't do any good. You know that."

I nodded quickly, pulling my arm free. "I know. I'm sorry."

"Come on," Ethan said softly, pulling me away from the door. "Let's go."

Without another word, I turned and walked away, my heart heavy with everything I'd overheard. Aiden would find his mate, he'd take over the pack, and where would that leave me? I wasn't even sure if I'd ever shift. Maybe I wasn't meant to be part of the pack's future. Maybe I was just destined to watch from the sidelines, alone.

I let him walk me down the hallway, my heart still aching from what I had heard. I couldn't help but feel like I didn't belong. Aiden was on his way to becoming Alpha, and I... I didn't know where I fit anymore.

The whole issue felt like an unbearable pressure on my neck. I was hoping Aiden was going to defend me, but he didn't. I don't blame him, I blame the moon goddess for everything. If only I'd gotten my wolf, I wouldn't be the talk of the town.

'I wouldn't be discussed in people matters as a reference, I wouldn't even be down there eavesdropping on people's conversation,' I thought, as tears rolled down my eyes.

I could remember that day I didn't shift to my wolf form, while my age mate shifted. I became the laughing stock in the pack, most people don't want to be my friends anymore, and I lose all my friends. Even my mother was pissed at me, but my dad tried to comfort me telling me I would definitely get my wolf.

"You are always a disgrace to this family," my mum spat to my face.

"You always come last in class and still couldn't get your wolf," my mum mocked me, as I felt my heart break into a million pieces. I was expecting her to comfort me, and tell me everything will be alright. But instead, I got the opposite.

I took a deep breath as I tried to shake off those painful and depressing words out of my head.
