Kyria
" How did I oversleep and lose track of my time?" I grumbled as I hurriedly packed my satchel to meet my half-sister, Sia.
I went to her class; she wasn't there. I searched everywhere for her because I dared not go home alone without her. Though I'm a year older than she is, I have to do everything for her. I finally found her with friends down the hall having a smoke.
"Damn, this bitch has caught me smoking," Sia said. With a disgusting look on her face, I heard that, but I never minded; she does not respect me anyway. I shifted closer to where they were. "Sia, sorry I'm late; I overslept and lost track of my time. I didn't even notice the sirens sound. Can we go now?" The look on their faces gave me chills; I know what Sia can do. Is this also going to be a bad day? Sweat was dropping on my body. She moved some steps closer to me, bent her head to my face and said, "Oops!! Sorry, your eyes caught what they shouldn't have, so you'll have to pay for it." She smirked, like she was waiting for this very moment. I tried to convince her that I wouldn't tell anyone, but before I could say the word, "Sia, I..." I did not finish my statement before she cut me off.
"I know you would not even have the nerves to tell my mother about it, that I smoke, or should I say she wouldn't even listen to you, but what do I do now? My friends want to have fun, rubbing their hands together in anticipation. "Right, girls ?"
She turned around and winked at her three friends, one sitting and staring at what was happening, the other one standing and still drawing smoke into their lungs, and the third girl, who seemed uninterested in what was happening.
"Girls, don't worry; she's got no power. She could not activate the wolf in her," Sia said with a mocking smile on. I turned slowly and looked at her, my heart sinking down my ribs, because I know I can't defeat them, as I am powerless, and even if I could, I dare not lay a hand on Sia. "Sia..." I was about to plead like I always do when I was cut off. "Whoa!!!" One of the girls said as she came closer to me, "So we could do this?" The next thing I heard was a slap on my face as I fell to the floor. Sia and the rest laughed. "Nice to meet you; I'm Kathrine." Scoffing, I received another blow on my jaw.
"Careful, we don't have to make it too obvious that she was hit," Sia said. " It would be better with the stomach." One of the girls suggested, " Rail! That's a good idea; come and hold her. I don't want to miss my target; I'm having a lot of fun time here," she said, cracking her hands. Before I knew it, I felt pain down to my intestines. As I was grunting in pain, I heard, "That was refreshing; she felt that," Katherine said, laughing out loud."
Suddenly two guys came in, tall, but one was a little bit taller and good-looking, with blonde hair. "Hey, guys, where have you been?" Katherine asked. Sia turned to them. "We said we were going to meet here; where did you go?" she asked. I've not seen these two before.
But from the way the taller guy put his hand inside Sia's breast, pressed it, and kissed her, I could figure out he was her boyfriend.
The second one came closer to Katherine. What's up? Who's this? It's Sia's half-sister; she's just keeping us company."
He smiled, brought his tongue out and moved it from one lip to the other, and came closer to me, holding my face. "Wooh, you have a good body; how about you play with me?" They all laughed. He unbuttoned his clothes and pinned me to the ground, and I cried as I was feeling pains all over my stomach. I tried to struggle, but his grip was too firm, and I was out of strength.
As he brought his hand down to my thighs,
I could only pray to the moon goddess at the moment because if I'm left here with these people, I might lose my life, and no one would do anything about it.
We heard footsteps approaching, and he pulled away from me.
The security man passed by. "Hey, what are you guys doing here?" Then I heard Sai's voice. My sister was feeling dizzy, so we just decided to get some rest here before we leave." She turned and was moving close to where I was. How could someone be this pretentious? "Alright, you should go home now; there is no one in school again." The security man said as he left for his own business. At this point I could not even alter a word; I felt weak to my bones.
"Sia, let's continue in the woods," Katherine said, scoffing. "Great ideas!!!" Rail replied at that moment. Sia's phone rang quickly; she picked it up. "Mum, we're on our way." She turned and looked at her friends. "Sorry, girls, she's got her lucky day. We'll continue the play next time; we've got to go now." I could agree with her that I got my lucky day or maybe the moon goddess spared me, but just from this group of friends. How about home? Will I be lucky enough to escape what's coming at home?
Trying to stand up from the floor, I felt pain everywhere; my face was swollen, and I felt queasy, but I still had to get home.
As we got home, immediately the door was pushed open. I saw my stepmom in the sitting room; my heart beat so fast I could picture the beating I would receive because I got back from school later than the usual time set for me. Drowned in my thoughts and pains, I heard Sia greeting and hugging her mother, "Hi, Mum, I'm back. Sorry I'm late from school. Today my almighty sister slept off during school hours and kept me waiting."
Her eyes turned on me. I know one word from Aunt Binna. I'll get a cold beating from my dad; I don't know how she manages to do that, but she still does it anyway. But unfortunately my dad is not home, but she could still do it herself like she always does. Aunt Binna is my father's second spouse; after my mother's passing, he got married again. My stepmom detests me; she and her daughter bully me every time.
Before I realized, I noticed footsteps approaching me. I realized at that moment I would get another pounding before I moved from the sitting room to my room.
"Kyria, honey", I raised my head up slowly.
"So you purposely kept my child in school waiting while you slept." "Aunt Binna. It's...", accompanied by a slap, was, "Shut your trap, you daughter of a bitch.'
I fell to the ground; tears rolled down my eyes. "Did you want to starve her to death? Anyway, stand up, go in there, prepare something for her to eat, and I do not want to see you eat anything, anything at all, in this house till tomorrow morning.
Do you understand?" Trying to raise myself up, I think I said yes, but I'm not sure she heard that. "Do you understand?" stuttering, "Y-y-y-yes, ma."
Aunt Binna's beauty is so breathtaking it requires oxygen tanks, and her stature is so commanding it makes grass look tall. Maybe wickedness is her revenge on me for basic human decency.
Sia dodged a bullet by taking after my dad's good looks; talk about a genetic jackpot.
I walked to my room, slowly changing my clothes, my face swollen as I had bitten my lip when my stepmother hit me, coupled with the one her daughter had instructed in school.
I collapsed to the floor, my stomach convulsing with agonizing cramps that felt like a thousand knives stabbing me; a wave of nausea washed over me, and my vision blurred.
kyria
As I lay helpless on the ground, I heard footsteps approaching my room. Sia came in. "What's wrong, Kyria? Can't handle a little pain? Huh?" Sia taunted. She came closer to me and squatted, "You're just so weak, she sneered.
I tried to speak, but my voice cracked. My stomach throbbed, and my body trembled. I felt like I was disappearing.
"You're nobody, Kyria." Sia's smile twisted.
She stood up. Brushing her hands together as she turns to leave, she spins around.
"Oh, by the way, have you prepared my meal?" I did not respond; with my eyes down, she used her index finger and pulled my face up. "When I'm asking, you should be responding, unless you want another beating, she smiled.
"You know I can just go to my mum, and I'm like, Mum, Kyria has refused to keep to your instructions. She's told me she can't cook and that she's in pain. If you really wanted her to cook, you shouldn't have hit her." She gave a slow, deliberate clap, her eyes rolling in mockery.
At this point I had no other choice than to do as I was told, even though I was going through excruciating pain. I reached out to Sia, "Please, can you help me up?" She looked at me with disgust. "Excuse you, and why should I do that?" By the way, when you're done, bring the food to my room, and be fast about it," she said as she slammed the door behind her.
I held my head and staggered up. With no choice, I walked to the kitchen, my eyes scanning the room with a mix of physical pain and emotional turmoil.
My body ached from the beating I had endured, but I knew I had to push through and make the meal for my half-sister. My gaze landed on the counter, where the ingredients for a grilled cheese sandwich lay waiting.
With a gentle touch, I buttered one side of each bread slice, wincing slightly as the movement sent a pang of pain to my bruised rib. I tried to hold back tears as I thought about why I am being forced to cook despite my injuries.
I miss my mum. If she were here, I would not be a maid to my stepmother and her daughter in my father's house. For a moment I detested my mum, asking myself why she had to leave me at a young age. I questioned the moon goddess if she really was watching over me; she might probably be watching over other people, but I doubt she does me.
Next I placed one slice buttered side down in the pan, where it sizzled and crackled, the butter melting into a golden brown kiss. A sprinkle of cheese follows, its golden shreds stretching and merging with the bread as it melts. I felt a surge of resentment towards Sia, who was lounging in her room.
The second bread slice, buttered up completely, completed the sandwich, which I cooked until both sides were golden brown. As the sandwich cooked, the aroma of melted cheese and toasted bread filled the air, teasing my senses and momentarily distracting me from the pain.
I lifted the sandwich out of the pan and placed the grilled cheese sandwich on a plate. With a heavy heart I carried the plate to Sia's room, where she was waiting to be served.
"Shut the door behind you as you're leaving," she remarked. I went back to my room since I'd been instructed never to taste anything I dare not. I lay down on my bed. I needed to stay for some time so the pain in my stomach could go down; I'm very sure Aunt Binna would be taking a nap by now and Sia would be on her phone.
I had already set an alarm for when my father would come back. As the alpha of the pack, he has to take care of the pack's affairs. He comes back by 5PM, if it was a long day, at the latest 6PM. I set my alarm an hour earlier, but it was quite unfortunate that I slept through the alarm.
From Far I heard a faint voice, "Kyria, Kyria", the second time, and I jolted awake, my heart racing with terror. It was Aunt Binna. She smiled in a very horrific way. "Your dad has been back for hours now, and you're sleeping. That's how you slept your wolf away. All children your age have already connected with their wolves." I could not say anything; I overslept anyway, and if I tried to alter a word, it would be my worst day.
I went down to greet my dad. As I counted my steps closer to his study, I knocked and opened the door. W-w-welcome, sir," I stuttered. He raised his eyes and looked at me. He was sitting on the chair with a newspaper in his hand, with his lenses on. Aunt Binna was sitting on the table in front of him.
"Where have you been?" I had not answered that before he asked, "Did you go to work today?" "N-no, sir." With rage, he threw the newspaper on the floor and stood up, moving closer to me. "I learnt you've been sleeping; too big to work now, huh?" "N-no, sir, I was feeling pains all over my stomach; even if I went to work, I would not be able to do anything; I would not bring much money.
"Ohh, now I'm a beggar. I'm begging you for money, and how dare you look strength into my eyes and talk back at me?"
He flung me to the wall, and I felt a sharp pain in my back. As I fell to my knees, he came closer. "You have pains, right? Let me add to it."
Coming in, I noticed my dad had had some drinks , so I would have a taste of it today, but at this point I do not know if it's what I said or if something else happened because he does not react much if I do not go to work on schooldays.
At this point I bit my lip, closed my eyes, and waited for the worst to happen as I was kneeling helplessly on the floor.
Suddenly I heard Aunt Binna's voice: "You don't have to ruin her only asset; without that cute little face, we can't get anything out of the deal. We need her to be stable and strong for tomorrow." My father withdrew; he went back to his seat.
Kyria
I was left wondering, what deal are they talking about? as they go on and on about my cute little face, which has just saved me this evening, or do they have another place for me to work? Lost in my thoughts, I heard Aunt Binna call, "Sia
Sia," she responded and came in.
"Take her in so she can prepare for our visitors tomorrow." "Alright, Mum."
Sia put her arm around my waist to help me shift my weight and find balance as I slowly stood up and managed to get myself to my room. As Sia helped me, upon reaching there, she pushed me to the floor, cleaning herself as if I had poop on my body.
"Oh, poor thing. Tsk-tsk-tsk." She clicked her tongue and looked at me. So you're becoming a wife soon, huh? She laughed and left the room.
It can't be that my dad wants to sell me out.
I wanted to stand up and meet my dad, to plead with him not to give me up, to tell him that I'll do better in my work and bring more money, but my strength failed me; I could not stand up. I can't believe my own father wants to sell me out for money. I understand that my dad loathes me so much, but the fact that he wants to sell me, his own daughter, out, I just can't get my head around it.
I was lost in thought the whole night; I could not get any sleep. My alarm rang; it was 5:30 already. I was feeling much better even though I'm weak; I'm still a wolf anyway.
Waking out of my room to meet my dad, I heard Sia and her mom talking.
"Mum, are you sure this is going to work out? I'm so fucking tired of seeing her around; anyway, I don't know why, but I just detest her."
"Don't worry, honey; you know your dad always listens to what I say." Of course it's true my dad listens to everything Aunt Binna says.
"But the Lunaris are ruthless; what would they use her for? Sia asked,
"Who cares what they'll do with her? We just need the money."
Tears could not come out anymore. I know Aunt Binna has spoken; there's no going back. Even though I pleaded with my dad, they were giving me to the Lunari. That means they never wanted to see me anymore; they don't care if I die or not. I thought to myself, I'll go with them, do whatever is expected of me, and then maybe one day I can be free and come back for my mum's pack.
As I was turning back to my room, I heard Sai ask,
"How about her mum's pack? Won't they disagree with it?"
I stood to listen; at least my mum's pack can save me. Why didn't I think of this before? Even if I'm weak, trading me to the Lunari is not proper.
"No one cares what we do to her," Aunt Binna said, "Ha ha ha, oh joy," she laughed boisterously.
"The Alpha requested we sell her to him personally, so no one dares oppose."
"The Alpha did?" Sia asked.
" Your father said Alpha Derek saw Kyria while attending a meeting where Kyria works, so he said he loves her curly, full, long hair, so he requested for her to be sold to him."
"What's so special about her white hair?" Sia retorted.
What!! At this point I had to cry; no one cared, I asked myself as tears rolled down my cheeks. I walked back to my room and sat on my bed. It was not quite long before I heard footsteps approaching; I checked the time-it was 6AM already. Pushed the door open; it was Aunt Binna.
"Kyria"! She called, "Ohh, you're awake.
Our visitors are arriving in an hour from now, so prepare for their arrival and make sure you clean yourself very well.
"Yes, Ma," I replied, and she left the room.
I sluggishly stood up and walked to the bathroom. As I sank into the warm bath, my body melting into the water, my eyes drifted shut, and my mind began to wander.
My mind drifts to memories long forgotten: childhood laughter and the good times I spent with my mum. I remember my dad calling me his little princess, but now he wants me to disappear.
My stepmother says it's my fault Mom died, and I think that's why Dad hates me now.
Time loses meaning. Minutes blend into hours; I'm lost in the haze of relaxation.
I'm trapped in this serene world, where nothing matters but warmth and silence.
I heard the bathroom door open and a voice calling, "Kyria! Kyria!" and I was startled.
"You've been in here for an hour now; Dad needs you downstairs.
"Ohh, I'm coming."
She slammed the door and left. I quickly ran out of the bathroom in the only dress my mum made for me before she died, a white, silk, knee-length fitted dress that was the only nice dress I had. I thought I was going to wear it when I found my mate, but here I am, wearing it to be sold.
I took my satchel; there was nothing to carry apart from the dress I'm wearing. It's just my work uniform and my school uniform. I don't need my school uniform anymore. I took just the work uniform with me. As I was about to go downstairs, Sia came in again.
Her lips curled into a wicked grin. "You should be happy that we don't have to meet in school anymore."
I just stared at her, trying to make my way.
"Weak thing, no one even cares if you die or not; you should blame your mum for giving birth to you; she shouldn't have died, at least."
I shifted closer to where she was, and for the first time I talked back at her instead of just apologising.
"Who knows? Maybe your mother killed my mom to be my father's Luna; you should ask your mother; she might be a murderer."
I don't know what I'm saying, but I had to say something.
That made her angry, and she slapped me directly on the face.
"You're leaving the house now; you have the guts to talk, right? She screamed in outrage, "How dare you call my mum a murderer?"
I guess they heard her voice downstairs," her mum called.
"Sia, what are you still doing up there? Is Kyria not ready?"
"I guess the guests are waiting for me; I have to go now." I made my way out.
Moving downstairs, I saw a tall, imposing figure with broad shoulders and piercing eyes, with two other people with him. My dad and Aunt Binna are sitting across from them.
As I stood in front of them, he stood up and asked one of the guys to walk me to the car.
"You can stay for a meal, Beta, Thane," Aunt Binna said.
"No, thank you."
"How about the money?" My father asked, "It'll be delivered to you if the Alpha is satisfied with her." But... My dad wanted to say something: Beta Thane turned slowly and looked at him and asked, You've got a problem with that? And he quickly said, "No", shaking his head and waving his hand, "Not at all; we have a long journey ahead." Beta Thane said,
"My regards to the Alpha," Aunt Binna said, but no one cared to respond to her, not even with a nod.
It was quite a long journey; throughout the journey, no one altered a word. I was really hoping someone would say something just so I would know what my role would be there and what they would use me for.
I sat down quietly, holding my satchel to my chest with my two arms with a very tight grip; these men with me were scary people. Are they going to kill me on the way? Are they having a ritual in the Lunari pack? I had a lot of thoughts. The Lunari people are scary people. I just heard a little from my uncle that the day they entered our pack in their wolf form, many died.
I finally gave in to sleep, and I heard someone's voice: "Come out."
