My fists pounced on the punching bag for the hundredth time ~~. Sweat coated my forehead, dripping down my neck, and my heart ~~was~~ racing faster due to the constant depletion of my strength.
Suddenly, I felt a wave of nausea engulf me, and I sat on the floor.
"What could this be?" I wondered. "It's still morning, and I don't feel ill. So why am I nauseated?" I mumbled.
Just then, I felt something forcing its way up my throat to my mouth, and I ran near the woods and threw up.
I was so tired, but the anger within me forbade me from stopping the training. Conan, my alpha-mate of one year, has suddenly changed. He doesn't look at me the way he used to. Instead, his admiring gaze has turned to someone else-Sophia.
Sophia is the Princess of the Darkmoon Pack, a powerful werewolf pack that shares a border with my pack, the Moonstone Pack.
Everything was all about her now. He barely spent time with me anymore; it was as if Sophia was his Luna and not me. I felt like a third wheel in my marriage. I felt so pathetic; hence, I mostly spent my time here because it was my comfort zone.
All this was because I hadn't given him an heir, which was not even my fault. We had taken different lab tests, and the results always said nothing was wrong with me.
I approached the bag and started to punch it again, a long, harsh breath dragging from between my lips. I was so exhausted that I couldn't continue.
Finally stepping away from the punching bag, I sighed, glancing at the pack members training around me. I had been coming here more often than I used to.
"It's time to go home," I mumbled inwardly. I walked towards the exit, nodding at the pack members who greeted me.
On my way home, an unfamiliar pain invaded my chest. I hadn't felt this sudden pain before, or could it be that? It was as if something terrible was about to happen.
I continued walking, staggering forward, until I stood in front of our house. The pain wasn't alleviating; if anything, it was becoming worse.
I pushed the door open and was about to head to our room; however, the sounds of hushed, intimate whispers and movement were unmistakably coming from behind the closed door of our bedroom.
My heart raced faster, and my throat suddenly felt dry.
"Yes, Conan... just like that..." a breathy, unfamiliar voice murmured.
I gulped hard and tried not to believe what I just heard. As I approached the door, a cold dread settled in my stomach at the sounds coming from the room.
"Could it be that Conan brought a woman into our house, into our private space?" I wondered, my mind reeling.
"Say you're mine. I want to hear you say it," Conan's voice replied, low and possessive.
Upon hearing that, my body began to shiver. This betrayal, in our own home! The intimate murmurs and the soft creak of the bed felt like physical blows.
I decided to grab the doorknob weakly, my hand shaking from a devastating mix of heartbreak and rage, and my pulse began racing faster than I had ever experienced.
As I pulled the door open, I was met with the confirming sight I had dreaded-my mate was locked in a close embrace with Sophia in our bed!
They were entangled amidst the disheveled sheets, their sudden stillness amplifying my shock. However, they hadn't noticed my presence until the door opened. I stood there, frozen, and my heart sank. I stared at them for a few seconds before I managed to speak.
"Conan, are you really doing this to me?" I asked in a cold tone.
They jolted upon hearing that and quickly gazed in my direction.
"Didn't we promise not to do something like this to each other?" I stuttered; tears filled my eyes and tried to roll down my cheeks, but I blinked them away. I would not show Sophia that I was affected by this.
"My friends warned me that this guy is a playboy, but the mate bond was too strong for me to resist him," I said as I gulped.
"So what? He doesn't find you attractive anymore, and he changed his mind and chose me," Sophia said as she climbed out of bed and started to gather her clothes from the floor and wear them.
"It is not your concern; this is between him and me. He's my mate, and I have the right to be possessive of him," I warned her. "Before the count of three, I want you out of this room. One!" I thundered.
However, instead of panicking, she let out a long, sarcastic laugh and responded.
"Where is your pride? Why would you pine over someone who doesn't want you? Is this what you call being a Luna?" she responded, her voice dripping with contempt.
Her words made me so furious that my wolf awakened. A growl rumbled in my chest, and I felt my bones ache with the urge to shift. Conan quickly moved to block my path to her, his hands coming up as if to restrain me.
"Conan, what is the meaning of this?" I asked him, trying to quell my anger.
"Yvonne, stop! I'm sorry, but honestly, maybe this was the opportunity I was looking for to speak with you plainly. It's just not working. We're not on the same level, after all."
"What do you mean by that, Conan?" I asked him. His words were like a bomb that exploded near ~~to~~ my ears. This was someone I had lived with for a year. What did he mean by all these things he was saying?
"Yvonne, think about it. You are no match for Sophia; she's more educated than you and the Princess of the Darkmoon pack. I deserve someone like her, not the mere daughter of a beta like you. And to top it all, you couldn't even give me an heir. So allow me to settle with her; she can give me an heir," he added.
I gulped hard upon hearing that. "But I'm just eighteen years old, and I still have more years ahead to achieve great things before ageing. Remember that delay is not denial; I can still give you an heir; after all, the test results prove nothing is wrong with me," I pled.
"You can keep those words to yourself as motivation, but I'm done with you," he remarked.
I burst out crying and knelt immediately, holding his hands and begging, "Conan, please don't do this to me. We can work things out, please!"
"Yvonne, I'm done with you!" he yelled. "The moon goddess must have mistaken you for my mate," he replied.
Feeling depleted, I left the castle, heading into the dark woods. All I wanted was to be alone and drown in my misery. I was weeping inside the dark woods and wondering what fate had in store for me.
"Why, why! Why always me? Why is it that I can't have a happy love life?" I cried as I recalled how I and my first love were separated. He was a Lycan, and his parents forbade him from seeing me, saying a Lycan can't mate with a werewolf in their kingdom; it was taboo to them. A few years later, Conan courted me and made me love him when I had given up on love. Not long after we started dating, we got married. But now he's trying to abandon me, too!
I gazed toward the sky through the dense awning of trees, sobbing, expecting Conan to find me there, but to no avail.
As I curled my leg on the bare ground where I was seated, weeping, I sensed the aura of a group of rogue Lycans coming from behind me, and I swiftly stood up.
"Who are you, and what do you want from me?" I managed to ask, trying to overcome my fear because they were all masked.
None of them responded, but they kept staring at me with unsettling intensity.
"Are you all deaf? Or you're not from this planet?" I growled, bent, and picked up a thick branch of tree beside me for defence.

Seeing my reaction and the stick, they ran back into the route they came from. I exhaled a breath of relaxation and started running back to the Alpha castle. Safety first!
A few minutes later, I arrived at the Alpha's palace, and I noticed there was a gathering between Conan, Adolph, his father, Monica, his mother, and Sophia. However, Sophia was lying on the floor, and I noticed some injuries on her leg; however, the injuries looked fake.
They all glared at me with suspicion, including Conan, while Sophia lay on the floor in a critical condition.
"Where are you returning from, Yvonne?" Conan asked.
I glared at him with disdain and ignored his question, as the incident I witnessed earlier in his room was still fresh in my head.
"She doesn't want to answer; can't you see? I told you this girl is more dangerous than you could imagine," Adolph remarked, staring at me with disgust.
"Oh, you sneaked out to conspire with the rogue Lycans to attack my daughter-in-law after you had refused to give my son an heir?" He chimed in.
"No, Father. I did nothing," I remarked, glaring at them with confusion. "Wha--what is happening here?" I stuttered.
"You're asking us a question?" Conan growled at me, causing me to fret because that was the first time he had yelled at me.
"It's funny that the Luna of a pack is the one leaking their information to the opposition," Adolph remarked.
"No, I don't know anything concerning all of these you all are saying; you're accusing me of betraying my pack!" I cried.
"Shut your mouth up. I know your type. Your crocodile tears can't save you from this. Now check these photos," Adolph snarled, handing a phone to me.
I took a glance and saw a picture of me discussing with the rogue Lycans, and I became speechless. "Who did this to me?" I said inwardly.
At this point, Conan stood up and approached me. "So you're still having an affair with him? To betray your pack for him?" he whispered.
"Who? Can someone just explain to me what's happening here?" I asked, staring at their faces.
"You don't know who I mean? Are you denying having an affair with the Lycan King of the Red Blood Pack even after he left you years ago for his Luna? Well, that's ok. I won't talk much," he sighed and went back to his position.
"Yvonne, if you don't say the truth now, the nemesis will be harsh on you," Adolph said.
I trembled at my feet as I heard the threats coming from Conan's father; that man had hated me from day one, and I must say it's a hereditary hatred because he wasn't on good terms with my father till his death, despite being his beta. On his way for an errand Adolph sent him, he was devoured by a group of Lycans, which I believe must be a conspiracy from Adolph.
Ever since then, my life has been miserable as a teen growing up with no father to shield me from danger. The worst of it was that my mother died the day she gave birth to me, so I don't even know who my mother was, but my father used to tell me I was her carbon copy.
I was just fortunate to be mated to Conan, and that was how I became the Luna of the Moonstone Pack. However, I was certain Adolph wasn't pleased by the development; hence, he pressured Conan into his new decision to make Sophia his Luna.
It wasn't even up to a day since I experienced heartbreak from Conan and was nearly endangered in the dark woods, and now I'm being accused of something I know nothing about.
"Please, I'm begging you all. I'm telling the truth; believe me."
"Father, let's not hurry and jump to conclusions, as there is no clear evidence she had a hand in the attack the rogue Lycans did," Conan said with a pitiful tone.
His father smirked upon hearing his words. "It's obvious now that you have not fully recovered from her bewitching," he said. "What other evidence do you need to prove she's the one, huh?" he questioned.
"What evidence would make it clearer that she was caught discussing with Lycans, and a few minutes later, a group of rogue Lycans attacked the pack and stole the wolf bane of the pack, even injuring the real Luna of the Alpha?" he asked.
Conan exhaled deeply in confusion. From his expression, I could tell he wasn't satisfied with what his father was saying, but he couldn't oppose it as the evidence he mentioned seemed true.
"Well, since she has denied knowing anything about the attack and we received information about her being with the rogues in the dark woods a few hours ago, there's no need for this argument," Conan stated.
"So what do you suggest as the next step, Conan? Or would you allow the Pack Wolf Bane to miss like that?" Adolph asked.
"Not at all," he responded, gritting his teeth in confusion.
"So what's the plan?" his mother questioned.
"There would be a general meeting among the pack elders. This issue needs to be handled with elders because it's beyond one person now," Conan replied.
"Well, as you wished, but don't take this issue lightly," his father responded. "I think your concern now should be how to get Sophia healed," he added.
"Exactly what I'm up to do," Conan responded. He helped Sophia from the floor and carried her, her head resting on his chiselled chest like a baby.
She side-looked me and sneered at me, signifying she was up to something.
"Does this mean Sophia just set me up?" I wondered.
They went to an open room, where I and Conan mostly spent our time.
"Will you leave my presence?" Adolph yelled at me. "Worthless daughter of a beta," he added.
I shivered upon hearing those words, he just reminded me of the memory I don't like to recount, the memory of my father.
I sluggishly walked out of the scene and headed to the path Conan took Sophia to.
While walking, I met Conan on the way. He had dropped Sophia off in the room and was heading back to where his father and mother were.
"Is she badly injured?" I stuttered.
"That's left for you to answer. She's in there," he replied, and he walked out.
I headed to the room to see Sophia; however, as she saw me, her face brightened and a smile crept onto her lips.
"You think you're smarter to take over the man I had long wished for?" she questioned.
"What do you mean, Sophia? How had I wronged you in any way?" I responded, my voice as cold as ice.
"One year ago, I was trying all I could to win Conan over, but you suddenly came from nowhere and took him away from me, so I am now to take him back; he must be mine whether you like it or not," she let out a devilish smile. "Well, I'm the only one to save you as well, but only if you will accept my request," she said.
I gulped nervously because I was stunned upon hearing all she said.
"I never knew you wanted him, and besides, he was the one who found me; I never courted him or forced him to love me for once," I explained, thinking she would change her thoughts about me and vindicate me from the accusation; however, she never felt an atom of remorse.
"Well, I don't think crying will solve the situation; you only need to make a video of yourself accepting that you did it and beg me for forgiveness right now, and I'll help you out of the accusation," she demanded.
"Never!" I yelled. "Why would I even do that when I'm...
Immediately, the door banged open, and Conan entered. As Sophia saw him, she started sobbing, curling her hands across her chest like a belittled one.
"Honey, why did you allow her here? She almost killed me. Thank God you came," she complained.

"What is wrong with you, Yvonne? You want to land me in trouble?" He growled, his eyes turning red.
Fear gripped me because I knew what was about to happen: his wolf was about to attack, and there was nothing he could do about it because when he became aggressive, his wolf took control of his body.
Before I could speak, Conan had pounced on me, and I fell on the tiled floor; his grip locked around my wrist like a vice.
"Ah!" I yelled as a sharp pain shot through my arm.
"After conspiring with the rogue Lycans to injure her, you had the guts to come here to attack her again!" Conan growled.
"It's okay, Conan; don't hurt her, please," Sophia said, pretending to have my interest in mind.
Conan then left me on the floor with his eyes still fierce and his jaw clenching out of anger.
"You want to kill my mate in my palace," he remarked, breathing heavily. After a few minutes of standing, he left the room.
I lay on the floor, sobbing, as the pain of my wounded hand and leg was unbearable.
After a few minutes, I summoned the courage to stand to my feet. I really needed to get out of this place before the worst would happen.
However, as I was managing to get up, Sophia stood from her position and kicked me backwards, making me fall massively, and she laughed with satisfaction.
"Did you like what just happened now?" she smirked.
"Sophia, you will pay for all these," I yelled, crawling to escape from the room; however, she held me back.
I was so pained to the core that I wanted to use my last strength to fight her and show her what I was capable of. At least to give her the real injury she set me up for; however, I waved off the thought from my mind because I knew it would only cause more harm to me.
"If you don't do as I said, you'll see more than this in the future, and by then, I won't be in any position to help," she whispered, holding my jaw like a slave.
"Over my dead body," I responded.
Feeling annoyed, she clenched her teeth and spat on my face. "You stubborn fool," she snarled.
Immediately, I lost control of my anger and kicked her with all my strength, and she fell on the bed.
"What an insult!" I stated, using the bedsheet to clear the spit on my face.
After cleaning my face, I hurriedly stood up from the floor to run, despite my hand and right leg aching.
"He doesn't need to meet me here again," I mumbled and ran out.
In the compound, I was staring everywhere, looking for a short and open space to sneak out of the palace, because I knew following the general route would lead to Conan, his father, or the guards seeing me.
Fortunately, I discovered the emergency little gate, which is only in use when there is a catastrophe in the palace. As I was trying to unlock it with the master key I had, I heard the echoes of my name from my back, and I nearly urinated on my body out of fret. The voice was that of Hakim, the beta of the pack.
"Wha– – what do you want from me, Hakim?" I questioned him.
"I want nothing from you, my Luna," he responded. "I really wish I could help you out in this terrible situation you're in, but I can't; I have to do my job," he narrated.
Hearing those words, I let out a heavy breath of relaxation. If not for anything, some people know I'm truly being belittled and care for me.
Nonetheless, as I opened my mouth to commend him, he interrupted: "The Alpha demands your presence; that was actually what I came to let you know," he remarked, making my heart sink into my stomach.
"What could it be again?" I was curious. "Who knows if Sophia has lied against me again?" I wondered, my body trembling out of fear.
"Um, okay, I've heard you, Hakim; tell him I'm coming," I stuttered.
"No, my queen, the Alpha demanded that you come with me, I can't go back without you by my side," Hakim opposed.
I gritted my teeth in confusion, riffling my neatly cured hair out of frustration. "Okay, let's go," I replied.
"After all, I haven't seen anyone die twice; if I die today, I will die no more, and my pains will go away," I mumbled inwardly, trying to overcome the fear in me.
A few minutes later, we arrived at the Alpha chamber; however, Sophia was seated beside Conan and was faking a cry.
She glared at me with a mocking gaze, and I could read from her lips, "You're yet to see the real me."
Just as I was lost in thought, thinking of what she might have told Conan, Conan's voice brought me back to reality.
"Yvonne, so after everything, you went ahead to hurt Sophia, even after I scolded you for your first attempt." He questioned, his voice as cold and dominating as he had never been before.
"My Alpha, I was only trying to protect myself; I did nothing to her; it was just self-defence as she badly wanted to kill me," I responded, with an honest look.
He smirked upon hearing my response. "She wanted to kill you, really?" he added, smiling, and then turned his gaze to Sophia.
"Don't mind her, honey. She's lying," Sophia quickly responded without even Conan asking her any questions.
"Oh, I know she was. You don't need an explanation," he replied, staring at me and smiling wickedly, with his legs crossed.
After a few seconds of staring at me without uttering a word, he finally dropped the glass of wine he was holding and gently let Sophia off from his body. He stood up and began approaching me where I was kneeling.
"Please, Conan, I'm innocent. She wanted to kill me that's why I kicked her to flee for my life." I cried, trembling, because I didn't know what he had in mind to do once he approached me. Perhaps he was about to end my life at this moment, because the first time he injured me, he broke my leg and arm.
"I won't touch you anymore, Yvonne, there's no need to tremble," he said.
I let out a deep breath upon hearing that, at least my life is no longer at stake now.
"But this would be your last moment in this pack, yes, and I mean it," he said, causing me to jolt in shock. However, my eyes collided with Sophia's, and she smiled at me with satisfaction. Truly, she said it-she said that I would see more in the future, and here it is manifesting.
"There is no need for the investigation I said that should be commenced concerning the attack the rogue Lycans did because it's clear now that you truly did it. Therefore, I, Conan Adolph, reject you and banish you from my pack."
