Chapter 1CHAPTER 1🎗️🎗️ My name is Lily Hared ,I am 25 I met Richard Sherman in the university,I love him so much and he loves me too.l love being independent and I love being independent. My background is very awful but all thanks to God now. My parents are aware of my relationship with Richard but I don't know his family he always divert the topic whenever I bring it up. Richard is really rich while my family is neither rich nor poor. I am the only child of my parents so I am so pampered not spoilt.

I studied LAW in the university and I am still yet to be called to the bar,not that my grades are not good but I want to stand on my on feet. I have graduated up to a year now and Richard believes I should be ready for marriage but I know my reasons. I woke up really late today and I am going to meet Richard today,he said that there is something important to talk about and I would be leaving in the afternoon. As I had my bath I slept back again when I was feeling sleepy. I woke up around 12 pm and I got dressed to meet Richard. I walked out of the house when I saw no-one. I took a cab and went to his office . As soon as the receptionist saw me she made a call to him and Ushered in. I met him sitting in his chair,he raised his head up and when he saw me he stood up coming towards me to hug him then he sat on his table facing me. I sat on an empty chair facing him waiting for him to talk .He asked me about my welfare first and I answered him well. He noticed my curiousity and he cleared his throat before talking. 🌀🌀 Richard Pov I wasn't expecting her to come so soon but am happy to see her now. I stood up immediately and went to hug her,before sitting on the table. She sat down in the chair facing me after talking for a while I noticed she was too eager to know what I want to talk to her about. I cleared my throat before talking "Listen Lilly,we have been dating for almost three years and we are yet to get married,am not getting any younger but older,Please baby let's get married"I cried out "I am not yet ready,I want to be on my own first before anything else you know" Lily said " There is money,you can have everything you want I would provide all your needs and wants at any expense. Lets get married please darling" I said again more like a begging. "Do you want a liability wife,do you want a woman that can't support and help you in any aspect"she queried "I wish not to have one" I replied sharply "Then be patient,few more time and we will be good to go. Don't worry everything is going to be okay"she assured me with a smiley face I always love. "Okay I will wait but promise me you will not leave me" I said with a quizzical look "I promise darling" she replied. "I love you so much that I can't afford to lose you,you know"I said looking at her lovingly. "I know Richie and I love you so much than what you can imagine"she said to me 🌺🌺 Lily Pov 🌺🌺 Richard took my hands and placed it on his face,he stared deep into my eyes and his green hales eyes shone brightly into mine. The atmosphere was getting tensed and as his lips crushed on mine. I gave in freely as I couldn't fight for dominance,he encircled my waist and pressed his lips harder on mine biting me. I departed with Richard when I was getting uncomfortable with the kiss,I rarely kiss him. I am not ready for marriage but Richard is pushing me. I think I need to see a counsellor. I want to be on my own but the counsellor would probably want to advise me to get married early . It's not that I don't love Richard or I don't want to get married,the problem is that I want to stand in my own feet before anything else. I don't want to be depending on him for source of income when we get married. I stood up and picked my phone from the dressing table I had previously dropped it. I dialed Jennifer number so as to ask for her counsellor,she is a trusted friend of mine she is about to wed in a month time. She also has been pestering me to get married but I refused. The phone rang and I discussed briefly with her,she gave me her counsellor information and after talking about some stuff I hung up. I called the number of the counsellor and I was given an appointment the next day. So soon if it were others the appointment may take weeks. l kind of like the counselor,the day went by and I retired to bed at night . Buzz 😴 buzz 😴 buzz 😴 buzz 😴 buzz 😴 The alarm woke me up and I sluggishly stood up from the bed .I went to the bathroom and had my bath . I wore a red velvet draped gown with a gold heel to match my purse. l don't really like fashion the way most ladies do,so I applied some powder and lip gloss. By 7:am I was ready . I moved downstairs for breakfast and I met my parents seated down also .l greeted them and settled down to eat. After I was through ,I got up and sat down on the sofa in the living room. Mum and Dad didn't bother to ask me where I was going,I was already contemplating on the answer I would give them if I was asked. So thanks to God that I wasn't asked. When I was about leaving mum called me back "dear Lily please be careful and make sure you are back on time" My mum said "Yes mum I would" I said "Well I and your father wants to talk to you about something ,we had thought we would tell you this morning but seeing that you are going somewhere so we will tell you when you are back" "Can't you tell me "I asked "Well I and your dad wants to tell you not only me"she rolled her eyes " Ok bye mum" "Bye little cutie"mum replied kissing me on the forehead. As soon as I left home I hailed a cab I didn't want to go out with dad's car I gave the driver the address. I plugged in my ear buds and listened to some song's,I don't really love one particular person in music but when the music is meaningful I get to love the musician. I was there in about thirty minutes , I paid the driver and I went into the premises. The counselor office was near a shopping mall and I wondered why she chose this kind of location for her business ;it's kind of too noisy for me. I stepped into the reception and told the receptionist about my appointment. I sat down on a chair next to the receptionist and after few minutes I was ushered in. "Good morning a middle aged woman welcomed me ;have your seat" "Thanks" I replied and sat down . I checked the office and it was really really neat, a portrait of her hung on the wall above her head and the flowers were neatly arranged on the table. Files were piled up on the table and in all the shelves, What does a counsellor needs files for,only God knows... Everywhere was neat and tidy. "Are you done checking my office out"she asked with a smile revealing her dimples "I am sorry ma'am" "That's not a problem , anyways my name is Dorathy Jake and yours" "Lily Harden "I replied After listening to my plight she spoke up "I want to ask some questions and I would love if you can answer me frankly" "Go on ma'am"I said getting nervous and she sensed that I was nervous "Well don't get nervous cause if you do you won't answer me frankly " I nodded "So are you ready " "Yes I am" "How many year old are you" "Am 25" "Wow you look like a 18 year old girl you know ,you look beautiful and young" My cheeks turned pink at those words "Thanks for the compliment " "Good do you really love your spouse" "Yes I really really do " emphasising on the do "Ok why don't you want to get married" "Because I want to be independent before marriage" She looked at me in disbelief "Is that the reason or any other reasons" "Well that's the only reason" " If that's the only reason then must be something great attached to that reason of yours" "Well that's a long story "I said "Would you like to share it with me"she asked looking at me for a positive response "If you want to know Mrs Dorathy" "Ok am all ears

"When I was just a little girl,I faced the bad part of life in my early stage,I am the only child of my parents.

I really wanted to have a happy family the other way other children had but circumstances said something else. When I was six years old,my dad lost his job,my dad had no relatives to run to and mum was a great liability to him because she was an asthmatic patient then up till now.

My dad didn't allow mum to work , mum was a degree holder in Marketing and Finance but dad didn't allow her to work in any organisation,to worsen it her didn't allow her to set up a trade,she became a full house wife with no job but to clean the house and do the homely duties expected of her.

So when dad lost his job things became really difficult ,I hardly go to school ,all the Money dad got from selling most of the valuable things in the house and all sorts of menial jobs he did was spent on mum condition.

When I turned ten mum condition worsened and I stopped going to school finally. I did all sorts of job to assist dad at my tender age.

I worked in a restaurant ,I worked as a cleaner in many organisations. I even worked in the cafeteria in my school so as to make all ends meet.

When I woke up in the mornings by 5 am then,I would go the restaurant close to our house and leave by 8 am when it is time for lunch I head to the cafeteria in my school,I get to serve my mates who are older than me and those that are younger than me.

I work there during the period of lunch then head back to a hospital that I was worked as a cleaner,I move from there to the other restaurants I worked,I can't even remember how many places I worked they are up to six or seven where I worked then.

I continued in that situation for three solid years so when I turned 13 mum health improved a little and I was able to go back to school.

My mates where ahead of me when I got back to school. I still worked in a hospital to be able to afford mum medication. I worked and read very hard so that I wouldn't lack behind in the class I was.

It was where I worked as a cleaner in the hospital that God lead me to meet Mr Frederick.

It was a sunny afternoon that fateful day,I was really tired and due to the fatigue my vision became blurry and I bumped into him,through that incident he helped me a lot when he heard about my predicament.

He helped me so much in a way that I would be forever be grateful to him. He took care of my mother and payed all bills for her surgery. He took me to a good school and through him I went to university Successfully. He got dad a good job and everything went back to normal.

Tears were already dripping down my eyes freely even more than before. Mrs Dorathy heaved a huge sign.

she looked at me with pity and brought out a handkerchief for me to wipe away my tears. she stood up from her seat and consoled me,her firm hands stroked my long wavy hair.

"sorry Lily what you have gone through is really enough from your own view of things not to get married easily,am so sorry but I would love to ask a question".

"go on ma'am" I replied she sat down on the table facing me directly.

"What did you study in the school"

"i studied law"

"wow a nice course,so do you intentions of setting up a business of your choice or you want to get sources from being a lawyer"

"I wish to have a business enterprise and also continue my career in becoming a lawyer"

"OK what plans do you have,the business first or the career?"

"If I can be called to the bar right now I would accept it and if I can raise a little amount of money I would set up a business equally,It's a option of which comes first".

"I can help you in the raising an amount of money for the business if you would like"

My face lit up immediately,I sat upright.

"Tell me ma'am how can you help me"

"Well there is a contest or let me say give away going in. Different companies joined together to set up this contest,I didn't know every details about it but you can try your luck. The prizes are amazing and you can be the lucky winner and if you are don't misuse the money".

"Ma'am can you send the details of this contest"

"sure I would do that" she looked up to me and smiled,"why can't you tell Mr Frederick" she queried.

I looked at her and shook my head negatively

."I don't want to tell him,because I love doing things on my own"

she took my hand and rubbed it with her hands

"Dear Lily you need to be a strong and you need to get married as soon as possible too you are a woman,I understand your pain but please make sure the decision doesn't affect you Marital life in the future"

"OK ma'am thanks very much"

"You are welcome dear"

"I would be on my way now"I told her

"OK dear,you would see the message on your phone before you get home"

"OK bye" I replied

"bye" she said

I went out feeling relieved,this is the first time Sikh my story to somebody,Richard knows but not the way this woman knows.

My phone beeped and as I took it out to the message,I bumped into someone.

I was trying to bring out my phone to read the message when I bumped someone. I looked up at him and he was looking at me,he was in a tuxedo and really looking good but his hair was not well combed. He must be really rich cause his aura smelt money and evil,I muttered sorry but he only smirked walking out on me and I left the environment.

I boarded a cab and through the drive home,I wondered and I kept thinking about the guy I bumped into.

I don't know why my mind keeps drifting back to that guy,is not that he is as handsome as my Richard.

Richard is more presentable than him even though Richard rarely wear suit,tuxedo but he is still good,girls always drool over him and I wondered why God blessed me with such a great guy,he has his flaws yet I love him unconditionally.

This guy would be a part of my life with the way my mind and instinct keeps drifting to him.

I got home and settled,I checked on mum and she was asleep.

I went to my room to catch some sleep when my phone rang and Richard picture displayed.

I picked it and we talked for what seems like a hour to him and a minute to me. I hung up when he was going to attend a dinner conference and when I asked him his outfit it always the same,top and jeans.

He talked Bout my refusal to get married and I gave him my word that I am going no where. I had a short nap after taking my late lunch.

I woke up around 5:pm and I was really tired. I went downstairs to fetch something to eat.

Almost done with my food,dad came back from work and I wondered why he came late today.

I welcomed him,mum also came down to welcome him.

"Darling when are we going to discuss with Lily on that matter" mum asked but I sense a kind I'd mixed emotions in her voice.

"Well that will be when I have a shower and change" Dad replied and he went upstairs. Mum and I were left alone,I turned on the TV to my Favorite channel and I started watching.

About some minutes later my phone beeped it was Jennifer's call and I picked it.

"How are you,hope you are fine"she queried

"of course I am good and you"

"Good also,I am with Anderson now"

"Wow that's nice,what are you doing if I may ask"

"That question is really silly you are asking what two grown ups are doing,anyways what about your counseling"

"Hmm I have gone there and it was really good,I really like the counsellor"

"That's good to hear,pray you get married very soon" Here goes that matters again.

"let's talk later"I said with a grin

"OK bye"

"bye"I hang up and glued my eyes on the TV.

Dad came downstairs and cleared his throat for attention. Mum sat on the couch with her leg crossed and dad sat near her,I face them with my leg crossed.

"Lily hope you are ready for this discussion"

"Yes Dad" I replied

"well we have two things to tell you" mum chirped in

"And what is it about?" I asked

"Lily" my dad began "I and your mum watched You grow up since you were a child,and I personally know you too well. We want the best for you,you are the only seed of our union you have no siblings and no other relative. So I and your mum was thinking of adopting a child" he looked at me and I looked away.

"You might be thinking of the reason why your mum can't give birth instead of adopting well your mum has low chances of giving birth so adoption is the best option".

He looked at me expecting me to say something,I looked at mum who was almost crying.

"Well dad,I understand that's decision,but it sound weird to me, I'm okay the I am well if Mom insists on adopting then am fine with that. it's only that's it would be difficult adjusting to that,so I don't quite agree with that but if Mom insists then who am I,I would have to adjust to it".

" okay Lily well the second matter is about your life"

"my life,what happened to my life" I asked tensely

" you are no longer a child" mom interrupted

" what we are you trying to say is that you are not getting younger,when are you going to get married"dad asked

That's question got me shocked,what did they think to this level did they hear rumours . why now for the past 3 years Richard and I I've been dating, my parents never talked about this.

"well we haven't discussed it" I lied because Richard has been pestering And discussing this issue with me but I turn it down.

"Then you need to" mom said

"do you know he's parent"

I don't know his parents anytime I told him to take me to his parents he would refuse saying the time hasn't come.

" I don't know them" dad

"How on earth is that possible" mom asked

Making me Flinch

"you don't know your supposed fiance parents and you are comfortable".

"mom I have tried talking to him but he won't listen,he said that it is not yet time for me to know them"

"but it was time for him to know your parents" mom retorted sharply

"dad,mom I said trying to calm them down they have never yelled or raised their voices at me before and I won't Let it happen now. "I am sorry but it isn't my fault,I have tried talking to him but he gave a deafening ear"

" you don't know any of he's relatives do you"dad queried anger in his voice.

"no but I know his sister"

"That sound pleasant to the ear,I want you and Richard to come to this house during the weekend,things like this needs to be ironed out".

"OK dad I will tell him"

"You must know his parents for God's sake" Dad said with finality in his voice.
