Chapter 1 First day at work

The bright light of the new day comes with it an umbrella of good tidings but Layla didn't feel the same.

She was forty minutes late for her new appointment. The same one she had worked so hard to get.

"God please help me," She prayed for the millionth time as she ran across the street and stepped into the large cooperate building.

As she got to the elevator, she tried to make her wild red hair look presentable by tapping her hands over it randomly.

As the elevator, dinged open, she took a long deep breath and stepped out.

She had been here before, the biggest cooperate firm in the City, White Wolf.

Ever since she broke up with Jake, this had become her lifelong goal. Not only that, White Wolf paid higher than every employer. With her financial state, this was the best thing that could happen to her just before she got thrown out into the streets.

To add to her misery her best friend Fey was diagnosed with chronic Ulcer. She needed a lot of money and there was nowhere else to turn to.

This job was the answer to all her prayers.

And now that she finally got appointed, she couldn't believe she was flopping it all up by being so late.

Why didn't her alarm wake her?

She wondered as the brain she was trying so hard to calm, returned to its chaotic state as she got reminded of the reasons why she needed this job like humans needed oxygen.

She rushed down the corridor to the departmental head's office -the same location she had dropped her files at the day before.

Without thinking she got to the last door on the left-hand side of the corridor and pushed the door open.

"I am so sorry that I am late. I was-" Her mouth hung open at the sight before her.

She did walk into an office alright, but it wasn't the departmental head she was looking at.

A handsome man sat on the table with his legs spread apart and there was a woman's head buried between his legs.

As much as Layla tried to turn away she couldn't bring herself to break the eye contact between this strange man and herself.

His stormy grey eyes seemed to pull her into him. It turned everything else into empty spaces and focused all its energy on her.

He looked like a movie star with his dark hair laying on the side of his head, just above his brows.

"Do not stop sucking!" His voice growled at the woman between his legs.

That was when Layla realized that the man was half-naked and the woman was topless, giving him a blowjob in the office.

Her motor senses returned to her and she turned immediately. "I am so sorry! I didn't see anything," she mumbled and ran out before the man could say anything.

As she stepped out she held her racing heart and looked at the door once again, that was when she noticed it said, president.

"Oh, my God!" She whimpered almost losing her balance.

Did she just walk in on her boss having oral sex on her first day of work?

Beads of sweat formed on her head as she looked around, that was when she saw the door she had intended to go into.

Pulling herself together, she took a deep breath and hurried there. This time, she gave a soft knock before pushing the door open.

The departmental head, a young man in his late twenties, raised his head from his papers and glared at her.

"Good morning, sir. I am Layla. I was-"

"You are late." He hissed closing the files in front of him. He flexed his arm and checked the time on his wristwatch.

"Fifty minutes late on your first day," he added.

Layla felt like crying. There was no excuse she could give. There was no traffic and nothing extraordinary happened aside from the fact that she woke up extremely late.

She was cursed.

"I am sorry, this is very bad for business. I don't think we can employ you... I mean it is your first day!" He said with disgust rolling off his tongue.

Her heart sank for she knew she was completely doomed now. She went down on her knees and put her hands together.

"Sir, please. I was overwhelmed and I overslept... Please give me a chance," she begged not knowing what else to do.

Tears were already pooling in her eyes as she stared at the man, waiting for an answer.

The departmental head let out a loud sigh and then opened the files in front of him once again.

"We have a policy of not firing our workers on their first day at work, so what I can do for you is to let you stay for the week. If you impress me enough, maybe you'll get to stay..."

Layla felt like hugging the man. She jumped to her feet and moved closer to him but she restrained herself.

"Thank you so much. I promise to be here at the same time as the janitors! I will impress you!" She promised eagerly as tears of joy spilled down her face.

He took out a small pile from the files in front of him and passed it to her. "Here," he said. "I want you to review this and return it to me before forty-five minutes."

"Okay, sir," she accepted joyfully.

Technically, it was supposed to be a punishment because no one could actually review so many files in forty-five minutes. But she didn't complain.

She took the files and moved to a corner of the office. She started reviewing them with determination and at the exact time, she submitted them.

Without raising his head, the man said, "Go to the canteen and get me two cups of coffee and when you return, you will complete some other reviews," he instructed. "Tell them it is for Mr. Smith. They know how I like it."

"Yes sir!" Layla chirped happily.

She jumped to her feet and walked out of the office.

She had to make sure the coffee was just right so that she could get back into his good graces.

But the bad luck she was meant to face that day, wasn't over yet.

Just as she picked up the coffee and made to move back to the elevator, she ran straight into a large wall.

The coffee spilled over, some falling over her face as well.

"Don't you ever look at where you are going?" The voice -the same one she had barged into filled her ears and she knew that she was doomed.

Chapter 2 Be my fiancee for 2 months

Layla's eyes slowly made their way to the speaker and that was when she realized that she didn't walk into a wall, it was a human being.

Not only that, it was the same guy she walked in on earlier.

"Oh, my God!" She whispered in shock as panic set into her.

"I am so sorry, I didn't-" she began to say but the incredibly handsome man in front of her raised his finger to her lips.

"Who are you?" He growled.

Before her she watched his eyes darken as he stepped away and looked around them as if searching for someone.

"Who employed this clumsy woman here?" He barked.

And for the first time, Layla noticed the tension in the room. It was as if everyone held their breaths when she barged into him and now they were all looking at their feet, probably regretting why they had stepped down for lunch.

"Mr. Smith sir..." Layla stuttered not wanting any trouble for the other workers.

His angry eyes returned to her face and marched out of the canteen at once.

Layla felt like the ground should open and she should be swallowed.

She had officially pissed off the president of the company and now he was going for her supervisor.

There was no way she wouldn't be sacked.

What would she do now? How was she going to get money for her friend treatment?

Scared beyond her brain, Layla ran after the president. She tore through the stairs, not caring about the elevator till she got to Smith's office.

But as she stepped close to the door, it suddenly flew open and the president stepped out.

As he passed by her, she felt the hair under her skin stand erect. Her heart drummed as if indicating something else other than fear -but try as she may in those split second, she couldn't figure it out.

"Layla!" She heard Smith call from within the office.

She snapped out of her thoughts and stepped into the office.

Before he could speak, she went on her knees. "I am so sorry sir. I know I am here on probation... You could have sent me away -but you didn't. Please don't throw me away now," she begged clutching her hands together.

This work was the last hope she had. If she lost it, everything she held dear was going to be snatched from her.

She couldn't let Fey die. She had to do whatever it took to keep this job.

"I am sure this position you are in will come in handy in the future but right now, I need you to sit." Smith was calm for someone who just got yelled at.

He adjusted his tie and sat at the edge of his sit, motioning to Layla to do the same.

"Thank you so much. I promise I won't let you-"

"He requested that I fire you." Smith interrupted Layla's words of gratitude.

Layla felt like the world had come to a stop. Everything went silent and her heart beat roughly against her chest.

"And I will appreciate it if you left the premises but he said you should see him as you are leaving," Smith added and like a snap of two fingers, Layla jolted back to life.

If the president was requesting to see her, maybe there was a way she could convince him. She was not a lazy worker. She was very smart. She could handle everything they threw at her, all she was asking for was a chance.

"Okay," she muttered getting off the chair.

Smith scoffed. He read her intentions and they irritated him. The foolish girl almost cost him his job.

"If you know what's good for you, go in there apologize and leave because one more mistake and we can get you arrested!" He said to her retreating form.

Layla could not produce a response. Her body was shaking. She was on the verge of total break down but she held on firmly.

She closed Mr. Smith's door and walked to the door she had gone into that morning.

She took a deep breath and knocked on the door.

Then she pushed it slightly open. She popped her head inside for good measure and those stormy grey eyes greeted her.

"Come in," He growled.

His voice was suddenly so deep, it felt inhuman.

With trembling hands, she stepped into the office and closed the door behind her.

She stood in front of the table and waited.

"Take a seat," he instructed. His eyes never left her face.

She pulled out a chair and lowered herself into it.

"Now, I am sure Smith has told you everything..." He trailed watching her features begin to morph into sadness.

"Please sir, I know I messed up twice-"

"Three times!" He corrected.

Even though Layla could not recognize the third time she had messed up, she agreed with him.

"Yes sir... But I promise, I am a very good worker. I am smart and very committed," she said. "Today is just not my day. Give me a chance and I promise to make it up to you."

The president stormy eyes seemed to shift and Layla hoped that meant something. It had to.

"You forgot to mention that you are also very clumsy and careless. This is a cooperating firm. We don't need beautiful clumsy women roaming around here..."

"Sir, please-"

He raised his hands and she sealed her lips at once.

"I have a better offer for you," his eyes darkened again as the frown on his face dispersed.

Layla felt the same tug she felt in her heart when she was coming up to hear her predicament. But just like the first time, she couldn't understand what it meant.

Tears pooled at her eyes but she quickly wiped it as she feared he might change his mind yet again.

"I can do anything as long I will get the money. I really need it please," she begged.

A devilish grin covered his face.

"I will give you back your job after this deal... The condition is that you move into my house and become my fianceé for two months."

Chapter 3 There were two of them!

Layla was almost blurting out a fat yes when his request replayed in her head again.

"This is-" she paused again as her head worked faster than it had ever done. "We will only be pretending right?"

He relaxed into his chair with those alluring eyes of his and his devilish smirk only grew bigger.

"You don't really believe a man and a woman can stay in a house, for two months without anything happening, do you?"

"I am not a prostitute," she whispered weakly. Her situation was placing her at a really difficult point. She needed the job and she was ready to keep it by all means necessary but could she do this?

"I never said you were... I wouldn't even have picked you for this if you were," he retorted.

She swallowed hard and her heart skipped so many beats in that split second.

"I am trying to be honest here. You are a very beautiful woman and you fit the description I have been looking for." He shrugged like what he was asking was the most normal thing in the world.

Layla sniffed away her tears as she thought about it.

"What do I gain from this?"

"Aside from your job, you have a salary of fifty thousand dollars per week. If you are going to pretend to be my fiancé we want your financial status to be believable, don't we?"

Layla blinked hard. With that kind of money, she didn't even need to complete the deal. In a month she would have more than enough money to pay for Fey's treatment and help improve their lives.

"Once you sign the document you are bonded by law, you can't break off till the two months elapses," he pointed out as if he had just read her mind.

Layla wiped her hand over her face and shifted to the edge of her chair.

Fine, if she could not leave, then she would have to set up rules of her own -she thought.

"I only need to pretend when people are around right?" She asked him.

"Of course."

"I will be needing my own private room-"

"That can not be arranged. I have workers who might spread the rumor to the world. You stay in my room." He corrected her before she could even finish.

Layla felt her heart sink in her heart. If she had to stay in his room then she had to set another rule.

"Okay, but you must promise not to lay your hands on me," she said firmly.

The handsome devil smirked and corked his head to the side.

"What sort of fianceé will that make us? I have to touch you."

"Not in private! You can touch me all you want when we are outside but in the room, you don't get to touch me. Don't even come close!" She hissed out.

His eyes twinkled and Layla felt her heart jolt. Was she imagining it or did his eyes really glow?

"Okay. That's done. I won't lay my finger on you in private."

His voice sounded sinister and every nerve in her body was telling her to run from this man but she found herself agreeing to stay.

"The contract and first salary will be released to you when you arrive at the house tomorrow." He got up and stretched out his hand to her. "It was nice doing business with you, Layla."

The way her name rolled off his tongue made her stomach tighten as butterflies fluttered around her but she pushed her hormones away.

This man was dangerous. She shouldn't feel anything for him. This was strictly a deal she had to make to keep her job and save her friend.

Layla got up and placed her hand in his for a shake. His hands were surprisingly warm and soft against hers.

"I'll send a driver to pick you up. See you tomorrow, Layla."

She held on to her racing heart and scurried out of the office. There was no point staying in the building. She got a different deal now.

She hailed a cab and went straight home to Fey.

Fey was in the kitchen preparing dinner when Layla got inside. Layla sneaked up to her and hugged her from behind.

"You can't scare me, Layla," Fey laughed. "I knew you were the one, the moment the door clicked open."

"What if I gave someone else the keys?" Layla asked with a smile and she stepped aside to seat on the kitchen counter.

Fey turned to look at her, mirroring her smile. "You are so noisy with keys, I don't think the person can copy your every move!"

Layla smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. It was time she broke the news to her best friend. She feared she would misunderstand or judge her or even stop her. So, she skipped the part where she accepted to do this for her.

"Fey, there is something I need to tell you," she began, the lies she was about to tell already getting shape in her head.

"What is it?" Fey asked as she dished out the spaghetti she was preparing into plates.

"The president of my company... He has a crush on me," Layla blurted.

Fey almost dropped the plate in her hand as her eyes popped out in shock.

"You mean White Wolf's president, the same one the media have been dying to see, has a crush on you?" Fey squeaked her face already dancing with excitement despite her weak body.

"Yes, and it's not just that, he wants me to move to his house for the next two months to help him with some affairs... You know -like his assistant," Layla concluded with a shrug.

Fey could not contain her joy. "Oh, my God! You accepted right? Tell me you did right?"

"Yeah, I did. It was a better offer than the one I got... I am just worried that he might try something funny while I am there," Layla added.

"Nonsense! He wouldn't try shit! He is a very big name in the city. Why would he risk tarnishing his image?"

Fey dropped the plates and stepped in front of Layla, her sick face was suddenly glowing with life.

"Just be a good girl and by the end of two months, we will be planning a wedding!"

Layla maintained her lie and even when the driver came to pick her up the next day, she held up her fake smile.

The driver handed her the contract and she signed it as quickly as she could. Then she returned it to him.

Reality returned to her when they finally got to the mansion and as she stepped out of the car, she found the shocker of her life.

"Welcome home Layla," they chorused.

The president was standing with another person, who was his exact copy.

There were two of them!
