The hall was filled with many dignitaries as the heir to the Brandson industries is said to be getting married to a country girl. The atmosphere was filled with happiness and the music was played in the background. A man was seen to be on the stage, clapping his hands to call the attention of the people while he was holding the microphone.
"We are all here to celebrate with the family of Smith Brandson and Elena Helen as today is a day of joy as the knot will be tied between the two families. And as we can see, the couple looks beautiful, doesn't it?" The man in the suit said with a smile on his face. People were seen laughing and clapping for the couple coming to the main stage.
Smith was smiling at his beautiful wife as he couldn't get enough of how beautiful she was. The couple held their hands together as the knot was about to be tied but this was caught short as her chief bridesmaid came up in the same wedding dress as Elena presenting a drive to the Master of Ceremony and a shocking video was seen by all.
The audience was shocked at the sight of the absence video, they began to murmur among one another while the bride tried to defend herself.
"Elena, there is nothing that you can say that will make you innocent, this is you with Smith's uncle right before your wedding. You are a thief, you are not worthy of Smith. It's okay, despicable things are hereditary which is why you did this shameful act just like your father." Emma said as she approached the main stage.
"Smith, look, it's not what you think. I can explain, please listen... Elena tried to explain but was cut short with a slap by her Smith.
"Who is there? Take this bitch outside." Smith ordered and watched two hefty men carry Elena outside.
"I can't believe she did this," Smith screamed.
"Smith, I have known Elena for a long time. She has always been a bitch, taking what does not belong to her. I guess old habits die hard." Emma said as she rubbed Smith's back as a way of consoling him.
"No, No, No...I didn't do it...." Elena cried out from her sleep, hearing the voice of his fiance, Smith ran towards her bed in fear.
"What's wrong? Drink this water." He passed her a glass of water to drink.
"I had the weirdest of dreams."
"Weird? What could it be?" Smith asked as he rubbed her back gently and smoothly.
"You called off the wedding ceremony due to a paparazzi that broke out," Elena said with her hands trembling as she remembered the events that played out vividly.
Holding her hands to calm her down, her fiancee Smith said "Don't worry. Nothing like that will happen. You are my love and I will spend the rest of my life with you" kissing her on her soft and tender lips.
"I trust you," Elena said but Smith was interrupted with a call and quickly excused himself.
"Don't forget, tomorrow is our wedding and you have to look perfect for the day. See you at 5. Dinner time." Smith said as he dashed out of the house.
Trying to figure out what the dream was all about, she remembered his words and then muttered "It's just a dream. Stupid dream." Waving the dream aside, she got down from the bed, took her shower, and prepared herself as she had a meeting with a client even though Smith did not want her to work, she felt she had to support him with all she had. After staring at the huge mirror before her to see which dress was perfect, she headed outside, driving the red SUV given to her by Smith on her 24th birthday anniversary. A smile beamed on her face as she could recall those sweet moments. She rode to the restaurant to meet with her client.
"Mr. Albert, I am so sorry I am late," She said as she extended her hands towards the middle-aged white man in a suit sitting opposite her direction having a cappuccino.
"Miss Helen?" He said looking confused as he stretched out his hands to receive the handshake.
Elena smiled and corrected the confused man standing before her.
"It's Elena. My mum is Helen and I know I look so much like her." She said as she rolled her eyes.
"Yes, you look a lot like her. Your mum and I were best friends in school and I will be happy to help you with whatever you need." He said holding her hands and patting her gently.
"I need.............."
"Honey, I am home. And guess what, I got you something." Smith said as he removed his coat and gently laid it on the white sofa chair in the sitting room he headed towards the kitchen as he could hear the sounds coming from that area as well as the aroma.
"I am ...coming, my love. I am almost done in the kitchen." She said as she was engulfed in the smoke from a burnt chicken fry, coughing from the aftermath of the burnt meal.
"What do you know how to do? My beloved wife." He said as he gently removed the burnt fry from the fire and helped her out of the kitchen but could not help but laugh at her appearance.
"What? Why are you laughing?" She asked, feeling ashamed.
"You look beautiful no matter what." He said gently holding her arms and locking eyes with her.
"Smith, tomorrow is our wedding and we are going to spend the rest of our lives together," Elena said, holding his hands.
"Me, too"
THE WEDDING DAY.
The scenery was beautiful, filled with cauliflower, as colorful as dignitaries from different facets of industries were present awaiting the arrival of the bride and the groom. A soft background music was played as the guests enjoyed the moment.
The door opened.
He walked in, in his well-polished Tom Ford and well-ironed Zara outfit all set for the wedding. Everyone was dazzled at the appearance of the groom. "Waoh, is Mr. Smith not looking too handsome for today?"
"I know right, after all, it's his wedding. He has to look his best."
"Gosh, his wife is so lucky."
"Yes, she is. I wish I was the one."
"Too late, he is taken already"
Mr. Smith could not help but smile at all the flattering words occupying the atmosphere. It was time for the bride to arrive. The door opened once again and there she was in her beautiful white gown made by the top designer in the world Chanel, smiles beaming from her lips as she held her bouquet made of white roses. Her appearance stunned the guests as she was dazzling.
"What! Is this the bride?"
"My God! She looks so beautiful."
"God, I wanna get married. She is so cute."
Every step she took took the breath of the guests away as she maintained her composure with a smile on her face.
"You are the most beautiful girl in the world." He whispered into her ears.
"And I am glad to be your wife." She replied, with a smile in return.
"Attention everyone. Today we have all come here to witness the wedding ceremony of Mr Smith and Elena Helen. Mr. Smith, do you take Ms. Elena as your sweet and beloved wife till death do you part and love and cherish her?"
"I do." He replied with a smile on his face.
"Ms. Elena, do you take Mr. Smith as your beloved husband and love and cherish him all the days of your life?"
"I do." She replied happily.
"You may now exchange rings and let the groom kiss the bride."
The guests clapped as the sight was so beautiful to behold.
"They look so cute together."
"I think they will make a very nice couple."
Shouts and claps were made to felicitate the couple. The light went off.
"Oh, what's going on?"
Whispers were heard and the guests seemed confused as to what was going on. Suddenly, the light came back on but this time it was centralized on the couple and Mr. Smith stretched forth his hands with one knee on the ground.
"I have always wanted to ask for the first dance. Milady, if you don't mind me having this dance?" He asked
"It's an honor." Elena held onto his hands and the couple were seen dancing to the rhythm of the song.
"Aw, Mr. Smith is a great dancer." The guests brought out their phones to take videos and pictures of the beautiful sight as they enjoyed the moment.
Gifts were given to the couple, Elena threw her bouquet and it was caught by a fair young lady whose spouse had pre-planned to propose to her that day. As soon as she got the bouquet, he proposed to her, she looked very shocked because she wasn't expecting it. Elena was happy as she could see love in the eyes of the lovebirds.
"Is this how Smith and I look to people?" She thought, oblivious of her husband behind her.
"What are you thinking about? My beloved wife." He asked as he carried her into his BMW X5.
"Oh, he loves his wife and can't wait to have her"
AT THE SMITH'S RESIDENCE
"Smith, you didn't have to do this," Elena said with teary eyes.
"Yes, I have. Elena, this is my gift to you as a wedding gift. Your house." He said, giving her the key to the duplex.
"Our house. I'm not going to live in it alone, we are." She corrected hugging him.
"I love you, Smith."
"I love you too. Now let's go and see what it looks like inside," Smith said. He opened the door and the couple entered the building. The sight was breathtaking, forcing tears from Elena's eyes, she ran towards Smith with a hug.
"It is just as I love it"
"Anything for you, Elena." He said calmly. He raised her chin making eye contact with her, slowly and gently locking lips. He slowly kissed her soft and tender lips and the couple enjoyed the moment.
"Hey, let's go change and continue this in bed," Elena said with joy in her eyes.
"Sure."
The couple ran upstairs, took a shower together, and laid on the bed. Elena tried to take his pajamas off but something was off, something was different.
"Smith, what's wrong?" She said
"Elena, I love you and there is no doubt about that but we can't have babies right now."
"Why not?"
"My company is still growing and I need all the concentration I can get and I can't afford to take care of you and a baby right now."
"Smith, it's okay. Babies are cute. You will love them, if it's money, don't worry, I will work and support you."
"Elena, you still don't get it. I don't want to make babies right now. And I don't want you to work, the only work you will be doing is to care for me and this house. I don't need you to be stressed. Can you please do this for me?" Smith begged.
"Oh...Kay. Anything for you, Smith."
"Thank you." He kissed her lips and turned to the other end of the bed.
"Mum is coming over this weekend with my sister." He said and drifted off to sleep.
"What! Smith, we didn't talk about this. Smith! Smith!" She kept calling his name, then realized he had slept. She silently tucked her legs under the white duvet and thought about the event that took place after the shower as she drifted off to sleep.
The day appeared too quickly, Smith was all prepared for work while his wife still lay in bed. Waking up after a while, she realized Smith was supposed to have breakfast before heading to work. She rushed out of the room to prepare his light meal. Colliding with him on the way, she realized he was all dressed up.
"What are you doing?"
"Em..I overslept," she said, rubbing her head.
"You did. But it's okay." He said, looking at his watch.
"Let me quickly get you what to eat." She said,
"Don't you worry. I am late already. What a great day to start our marriage, Elena. See you later." He said, pecking her forehead.
"Smith, what about the last thing you said last night?" she said but he was gone.
At Brandson Industries, Smith walked into the building with several staff members greeting and congratulating him on his marriage to Elena.
"Is the boss not supposed to be on honeymoon?"
"True, why is he here?"
"Probably his wife couldn't satisfy him that much," The junior staff gossiped from ear to ear, giggling at the fact that the boss left home early due to his wife's inability to perform her marital duties. Ignoring their voices, he took the elevator down to his office.
"Hello John, meet me in my office." He made a call to his assistant as soon as he got to his office.
"Boss, you called for me." A young man walked in through the door.
"Yes, I did. What about the Secretary I asked you to get for me?" Mr. Smith asked.
"Em, I tried my best but we couldn't get the one suitable for you sir. But we have one last option and I am currently interviewing her when you call me."
"Send her to me. Let me access her myself." Mr. Smith ordered.
A knock was heard on the door cutting their conversation short. Mr. Smith signaled to his assistant to get going as he called for the one at the door.
"Mr. Smith, your wife is here." She said
"What!" He screamed.
"What is she doing here?" He thought for a moment.
"Should I send her in or ask her to wait?"
"Tell her I am busy." He said and stood staring at the glass window opposite his seat.
"Well, it seems she has some packages for you." She added.
"Tell her to drop it and let her know I will get busy so she should not wait up." He added and signaled to be left alone.
"I am sorry, Mrs. Brandson but the boss is currently busy right now but he says you can drop the package and not wait up." The fair lady said with a smile.
"Did you tell him it was me?" Elena asked with shock written all over her face.
"I am sorry, Mrs Brandson, there is nothing left I can do." She said, collecting the package and making her way to leave.
"He doesn't want to see me. But what have I done?" Elena thought as she wiped the tears rolling down her face.
A knock was heard on the door.
"Come in." He ordered.
She walked in. An Elegant, beautiful lady in a red French suit appeared before him with files in her hands. She coughed to bring him back seeing he was lost.
"Em, sorry. Have your seat." He said, adjusting his tie.
"Thank you, sir."
"Can I see them?" He asked
"Sure." She hands over the files to him while she steals glances at him as he goes through the files.
He nodded his head surprised at her works and recommendations. After thorough questioning and evaluations, Mr. Smith finally concluded.
"You are hired, Miss Emma......" he stretched out his hands for a shake.
"Anderson" she replied, returning the handshake.
"Mr. John will show you your office. See you at 9 tomorrow morning." Smith said
BRANDSON RESIDENCE.
"Hello"
"Hey, Elena, what's up?"
Elena broke down in tears overwhelmed with the feeling that her world seemed to be crumbling.
"Hey, why are you crying? I am coming over now."
"No, don't worry. I am fine. Did you get the job?' Elena asked, wiping her tears with her soft hands.
"Maybe."
"Don't worry, it will be fine." Elena encouraged.
"So Elena, did you guys do it?"
"What exactly?" Elena beaming with smiles
"What you've been waiting for? Common gist me. How did he do?"
"Sharrap. We ........" a knock was heard on the door cutting the conversation on the phone.
"Girlfriend, talk to you later, my husband is here, bye." She hung the call quickly and rushed down to the door.
"What kept you for a long time?"?" He said, kissing her on the forehead. Shocked at his expression, thought to question it but waved it to enjoy the moment.
"I was...
"Have you been crying?" He cuts in.
She hid her face to hide her swollen red eyes. He turned her face towards his and softly kissed her lips.
"Elena, I am sorry if I hurt you but you know I love you right." He asked
"Then prove it."
"I knew you would say that, so I brought your favorite white rose flower," he said, giving her the bouquet. She inhales the fragrance with a smile on her face, she tries asking a question but is shut with a finger on her lips by her beloved husband.
"Not tonight, let's enjoy the moment, can we?" He whispered to her ears sending shivers to her spines. He carried her gently into the bedroom, caressing her tender lips with his thumb causing her to moan, he slowly took his hands down her chest line, and he noticed she was beginning to enjoy then he stopped. Shocked at why he stopped, she asked with curiosity.
"What's wrong?" Trying to search for answers in his eyes.
"Nothing, I suddenly remember I have work to do. I am sorry." He said.
He climbed down from her and left to the guest room, Elena noticed her husband didn't go to his usual work table and trailed where he was heading and saw it was the guest room.
"Smith, wait! What have I done wrong?" She ran towards him hugging him from behind. He turned and gave her a peck on the head.
"I have to work. Goodnight."
He turned to leave.
"What did I do Smith? Talk to me, don't shut me out. Smith! Smith! Smith!" Elena cried, banging on the door for a while before giving up. She quietly went to her room cowered under her duvet and wept.
"She doesn't deserve this, Smith," Smith told himself
"But, I have to work." He comforted himself with an excuse.
"Sooner or later you have to tell her, Smith" He thought, scratching his hair and groaning in agony.
