CHAPTER 1

Xavier McKinney, a poor bartender, maltreated and tortured by his in-laws because of his poor and wretched status. He married his wife Joyce 2 years ago because he loves and cherishes her so much and Joyce does the same too.

His wife's family are wealthy and influential personnels, and hated the fact that he got married to their daughter. But due to the love he has for her, he endured the maltreatment and hoped they changed for good.

Their car stopped in front of his wife's sister's house. Joyce made him go there for her Aunt's birthday party.

"I can't go in there, your family hates me." Xavier said nervously immediately they reached the entrance door.

"They don't hate you, And Aunt Kisha would kill me if we miss her birthday party." Joyce responded.

"But Joyce..." Xavier tried to say.

"Come on, let's go." Joyce said and dragged him into the house, he followed her reluctantly.

Music blared loudly inside the sitting room, Joyce's sister Mira is dancing romantically with her fiance Greg. They stopped immediately when Xavier got in, he felt so ashamed.

"Joyce, I see you brought this trash, you called a husband." Mira mocked with laughter.

"Doesn't he know that he's not welcomed here?" Greg said disgustingly. Xavier bent his head in shame.

Greg, their other rich in-law, walked up to Joyce and whispered to Xavier's hearing.

"Just dump him already Joyce, I will be waiting. And you Xavier, you don't belong here, street rat!" He said straight to his face.

"Ok, everyone! I'm ready for my presents!" Kisha said happily, Joyce walked up to her. Xavier wanted to follow up but Greg halted him.

"We are just waiting for the day Joyce wises up and divorce you." Greg chuckled sarcastically.

"It's ok Greg, I love Joyce and mean no harm to her." Xavier responded calmly.

"Hmm, we don't need your love here, you disgust us!" Greg sneered. Greg walked to Kisha adjusting his suit. He presented her with a golden chain and wristwatch.

"Oooh...the watch is so beautiful!" Kisha exclaims happily.

"Aahh, yes that's from me, Aunty Kisha, it's pure gold.And I believe it once belonged to queen Elizabeth." Greg said boastfully. Joyce patted Xavier's shoulders as he squeezed the little envelope that he was holding as a gift.

"Finally my sweet in-law has some good taste ." Kisha said with a smile, she then turned to Xavier with a disgusted and brutal face.

"Xavier, what did you get for me?" Kisha asked and immediately snatched the envelope he was holding.

"Wait? No...." Xavier stammered but it was too late, she brought out the letter and read it out.

"Dear Aunt Kisha, I need to borrow $500,000.i will pay you back!" She read disgustingly. She dropped the letter and stood up angrily.

"Did you come to my party just to beg for money!?" She shouted furiously at him. Xavier faces the ground shamefully.

"Aunt Kisha stop! You are embarrassing my husband!" Joyce said immediately.

"Get out!" Kisha shouted, Xavier stood up shamefully to leave.

"Wait, I will give you the money if you divorce Joyce and leave this family forever, in fact I will give you $1 million." Kisha added.

"I'll never divorce Joyce!" Xavier responded and left immediately.Joyce ran after him outside the house.

"Xavier, what was that?" She asked.

"My foster mother needs surgery, it will cost $500,000." He responded.

"Let me talk to Aunt Kisha, I know she..." Joyce was talking when Aunt Kisha walked up to us.

"Talk to Aunt Kisha about what!?He'll never get a dime from me. Now go!" Kisha yelled. Joyce took his hand to leave.

"Not you Joyce! If you leave then you are no longer my niece!" Kisha said.

"Don't worry Joyce, I will go." Xavier said and left. He got a call from work.

"Hi Mr Xavier, you are fired from coming to work. We found someone else for replacement...don't ask for reasons." His manager said and hung up. His manager has hated him ever since he started working there.

Xavier walked on the road tiredly, he had no one else to meet to ask for my foster mother's surgery bill, and he lost the only job he had. Just then a black jeep drove past him and then reversed back to him.

"Mr Xavier! Mr Xavier! I have been looking all over for you." The stranger said in the car, whining down his windows.

"Who are you?" Xavier was surprised.

"Wait, you don't remember? It's Philip, your old butler." He responded.

"How did you find me?" Xavier asked.

"Your grandfather sent me, he is very sorry that the last few years have been so hard on you. Here take this it's your inheritance, it isn't much. Only $5 billion." Philip said, handing him a golden card.

"$5 billion dollars!?" Xavier was shocked.

"Yes, you know your grandfather is a very wealthy man." Philip responded.

"No I didn't know because he gave me up! I don't want anything from him." Xavier said and continued walking. Philip followed him with the car and he stopped again.

"Yesterday, he bought the Berol cooperation company for $15 billion dollars. And now it's yours. Here, take this golden card, it should be more than enough to take care of your foster mother's surgery bill." He gave him the card and drove off.

"Wait!" Xavier shouted but he left already, Xavier stood at a spot staring at the golden card.

His grandfather's company and Joyce's family are rivals so their marriage was not approved by his grandfather that was why he gave up and neglected him all these years but now that Xavier is back to being a billionaire. He will keep this a secret from Joyce.

He got home and found Joyce cooking in the kitchen.

"Xavier, I'm sorry about today, I'll talk to Aunt Kisha again." She said immediately she saw him and hugged him tightly.

"Don't bother, I don't want anything from your family." Xavier smiled at her.

"Except me?." She giggled.

"Except you." Xavier replied and kissed her. They were sleeping, he checked up on Joyce and made sure she was already deep in sleep. He got up and took up the golden card and dialed the doctor's number with his phone.

CHAPTER 2

"Hello? I'd like to pay a bill for a patient in full." Xavier said over the phone.

Berol cooperation company.

Xavier stood in front of the company staring at the skyscraper building in front of him, he was wearing a navy blue suit. Just then Joyce's sister Mira and her fiance stopped beside him.

"Xavier? What are you doing here!?" Mira asked, surprised at his dressing code and all.

"Don't tell me you are looking for a job at Berol cooperation company." Greg smirked sarcastically.

"Like they'd hire anybody like you. Maybe they need someone to talk out the garbage." Mira giggled.

"I'm not here for your insults, what are you two doing here?" Xavier asked.

"Well, My fiance here has a very important meeting with the vice president." Mira smiled.

"Closing a multi millionaire deal." Greg replied.

"Not that you know anything about that, now out of our way!" Mira finished, they pushed him aside and left for the company.

"You both will feel my heat soon." Xavier said slowly to himself.

Xavier walked into the company and stepped into the elevator. It dropped him on the 3rd floor, and he walked straight to his new secretary.

"Mr Xavier! Welcome back to the Berol cooperation company, I'm Linda Morgan. I will show you to your office." She said with a handshake and they left.

They entered his office, it is very big and they designed it professionally.

"Oh, here we are!" She exclaims happily.

"This is all mine?" Xavier asked, looking around, he felt so happy at last.

"Unless you like something bigger?" Linda asked.

"This is perfect." He said and turned around, the door of his office was open so he could see Mira and her fiance sitting at the counter and waiting.

"Who are they?" He asked Linda pretending as if he didn't know.

"Oh, they are here for a contract at 12:00. We are closing a large deal today." Linda responded.

"Cancel it." He said immediately.

"Cancel the meeting?" Linda was surprised at my decision.

"The contract." He said.

"Sir, we've been working on this deal for months, They're one of our largest clients." Linda explained.

"Not anymore. Cancel all their deals." He repeated again firmly.

"Sir? Are you sure?" Linda was Shocked.

"You work for me, don't you?" He asked with a serious look.

"Yes of course, consider it done!" She said, He smiled inwardly.

She walked out of his office straight to them.

"Mrs Mira, we are sorry to tell you both that you can't work together with Berol cooperation company again and the deals have been canceled." Linda said to them, he chuckled inside his office.

"What do you mean all our projects have been canceled? Let me talk to the CEO please!"Mira's fiance Greg asked, frustrated.

"No, I'm going to need you to leave." Linda responded. Greg panicked.

"Do you know who my husband is!?" Mira yelled angrily.

"This is absurd! I invested a lot in this project!" Greg shouted angrily.

"I'm sorry." Linda finished and walked away. Mira cried harder.

"No! This can't happen to us babe!" Mira squirmed in tears. Xavier smiled mischievously.

"This is unbelievable...Did you want me to do anything else Sir?" Linda asked immediately as she walked into his office.

"Actually yes." He replied.

Mira stepped out of the company angrily. This is definitely not happening to them.

"I can't believe it.You don't think Xavier had something to do with this?" Greg asked angrily.

"We'll get to the bottom of this, did you hit your head? Of course not, he is a nobody." Mira said, rolling her eyes.

"Right. Let's go." Greg said and they left.

Kisha's office.

Kisha arranged some files on her table when she got the message.

"Ahh, Berol cooperation company's new CEO just canceled all of Greg's deals! He's worthless now. Mira can't marry him, I won't have her making mistakes again." Kisha said to herself.

Berol cooperation company.

Xavier sat in his office typing with his laptop, Linda walked in with some files in her hand.

"Sir, the board members asked to get these files signed for the new project." Linda said, dropping the files on the table.

"Ok, ugh, Linda I need two favors. One, never tell anyone my true identity." Xavier said.

"Done!" Linda responded.

"Two, Announce that I'm building a new casino and I'm taking bids for contracts." He added.

"That ei cause a feeding frenzy!." Linda exclaims.

"Exactly." Xavier responded, letting out a cold smile. Now his attitude is gradually turning Cold.

"Ok boss." Linda responded and left.

Greg's father called him on the phone to ask about the news he heard.

"Hey Greg! Is the news I'm hearing about you and the Berol cooperation company true?" He asked furiously.

"Yes father, but father please I'll make things right, if I don't you'll disinherit me." Greg cried.

"Make sure you do something about it!" His father yelled and hung up.

Xavier got home, he pulled off his suit. Joyce came running to him.

"Xavier! Did you hear? Greg's basically ruined!" Joyce said happily hugging him.

"That's so unfortunate." Xavier said pitifully.

"Everyone wants to know who this mysterious CEO is!" Joyce said, pouting her lips.

"Mmm...me too!" Xavier responded with a chuckle.

Xavier, Joyce, and Mira went to Aunt Kisha's office to meet up with her as she called them for an urgent meeting regarding the project that was canceled. Mira kept crying in a corner.

Mira's phone beeped and it was Greg's message.

"Mira, look I'm getting the Berol cooperation company deal.please!" Greg pleaded. Mira dropped the phone immediately in tears.

"As you know, Berol corporation company is building a new casino. We must get that contract!" Kisha said seriously. Xavier laughed softly.

"What are you laughing at? You ungrateful brat! It's thanks to this family you even have a roof on your head." Kisha barked at Xavier. He kept mute but burned deeply inside.

"Where's Greg?" Kisha asked Mira, who was crying.

"I can't marry him. He's ruined!" Mira cried, shoving her ring.

"Oh, clean yourself up, we'll find you someone else." Kisha smirked sarcastically, throwing Mira's engagement ring.

"As I was saying, we need to get that contract." Kisha said.

"Joyce should do it." Xavier responded.

"What!? That's ridiculous, she doesn't know the first thing about business." Kisha said immediately.

"And if she gets the contract, you make her a director of this company." Xavier added.

"Sure, if Joyce closes the deal, she can become director." Kisha responded with smiles. Joyce giggled and hugged Xavier.

"Okay, what did I miss!?" Greg said, walking in immediately and trying to hug Mira.

"Greg! Let go of me!" Mira shouted, shaking off his hand.

"Mira, look, I'm getting the Berol cooperation company deal and then we'll get married together." Greg said boastfully.

"Not if Joyce gets it first?" Xavier cuts in and smirks.

"Joyce? Well, that's a laugh. What does she know about this?" Greg yelled furiously.

"It's true Mira, you'll just embarrass the family even more than you already have." Mira mocked Joyce. Xavier stood up immediately from his seat and faced Mira Greg and Mira, hitting the table angrily causing a tense atmosphere.

"Leave her alone!" Xavier shouted, facing Greg.

"Why!?" Greg shouted back, hitting the table too.

"It's because of you we looked down on her. Because she married you!" Greg shouted again, he landed a hot slap on Xavier's cheek. Xavier turned immediately, his eyes now red and furious.

"Take it outside!" Kisha said immediately.

"You have bitten more than you can chew!" Xavier shouted and took Joyce's hand, he left the office. Greg went after him.

"Xavier! Joyce will never get the contract!" Greg shouted, drawing Xavier's attention back.

"Want to bet on it?" Xavier asked furiously.

"Oh, I'd love to." Greg smirked sarcastically.

"If Joyce gets the contract, you'll publicly apologize for the way you treated me all these years," Xavier said, breathing like an angry lion.

"Deal. And when you lose?" Greg asked.

"I'll leave the family forever!." Xavier responded.

"Easiest deal I ever made! And who knows, without you out of the way, perhaps I'll marry Joyce instead." Grag said.

"Let's go darling." Mira said, dragging Greg by the hand. She makes a mockery face at Xavier. James walked in immediately with a flower, he is one of the most successful businessmen in the city. So Aunt Kisha wanted him for Joyce ever since.

"I see you're still hanging around this family like a disease." James smirked.

"James, what are you doing here?" Xavier asked.

"Aunt Kisha invited me. It seems Joyce needs help closing a deal." He responded.

"And you can help her?" Xavier asked.

"I'm the most successful business man in the city. I hope to close the deal, And then she'll marry me." James responded boastfully. Xavier stared directly at James furiously. Just then Aunt Kisha and Joyce came outside.

"James, oh you brought flowers! Isn't that so thoughtful, Joyce?" Kisha said.

"So thoughtful." Joyce said, faking a smile. She took the flowers.

"Joyce, please let me know where I can be of assistance." James said.

"Joyce needs help closing the Berol cooperation company deal." Kisha cuts in quickly.

"Her? I'm sorry. It's just that deal is already spoken for." James smiled.

"It is?" Xavier asked.

"Yes. My family's very close to the CEO of the Berol cooperation company. He's already promised it to us!" James smirked.

"Interesting!" Xavier responded by clenching his teeth.

"But I'm happy to cut Joyce into a piece of it." James smiled.

"I don't want to be part of your deal, I want all of my own." Joyce said immediately and Xavier held her closely to himself.

"Joyce!" Kisha called angrily.

"No. I think we're all done here." Joyce said and immediately placed the flowers on James' chest roughly. She left.

"Say hello to the CEO of Berol cooperation company for me. Scum!" Xavier smirked and left with Joyce.

"Ugh, let's get a vase for those, James." Kisha said immediately.

"That brat!" James cursed.

Joyce sat down on the bed crying immediately when they got home. Xavier went and sat close to her.

"What is it Joyce?" He asked, patting her back.

"Was just thinking, I can't do this." She cried.

"Of course you can." Xavier responded.

"How do you know!?" Joyce asked gazing at him.

"I just do." Xavier said and smiled mischievously.

Next morning.

Joyce got all dressed for the meeting with the CEO of Berol cooperation company for the deal which she was assigned to do as a task. Xavier escorted her to the company.

"What if the CEO just laughs at me?" Joyce said nervously, immediately they got to the company.

"He won't...just be yourself." Xavier smiled at her. Joyce nodded and walked into the company with anxiety.

Xavier brought his phone and called his secretary immediately.

"Linfa, you know what to do." Xavier said and smiled mischievously.

The elevator door opened, Joyce walked straight to where the meeting is holding and met the CEO's secretary instead.

"Your vision is just what the CEO is looking for, we'd like to offer you the contract." The secretary said after some minutes of silence.

"Wait! Just like that!?" Joyce asked with her mouth thrown open, her eyes widened in shock.

"Yes." The secretary responded.

"But doesn't he want to meet me first? Or something?" Joyce asked again.

"No. He trusts my judgment." The lady responded.

"Who Is he, exactly?" Joyce questioned.

"A very wealthy individual! That's all you need to know." The lady smiled.

"Now, if you'll just sign here." The secretary said. She placed a contract in front of Joyce, pointing at the signing spot.

"But ... .but this is for double the initial amount?" Joyce was surprised.

"What can I say? You've impressed the CEO! Do you want the contract or not?" The secretary exclaimed happily.

"Oh! Of course!" Joyce laughed and signed the contract immediately.

Joyce finished the meeting and rushed out of the company happily. She hugged Xavier who had been waiting for her.

"I got the contract!" She shouted happily.

"I know you would." Xavier responded with a smile.

"And it was for double the initial amount!" Joyce said and Xavier Kissedher forehead.

"I can't wait to see the look on your family's faces." He responded.

"Yes! Yes!" Joyce said and hugged him tightly.
