"I can do this. I must get the evidence of Lenny's infidelity today!"
Scarlet Brown clenched her fists with intense determination. She placed her peaked cap on her head. Lowering her head to avoid the surveillance cameras, she walked into a VIP club.
She was here to catch her cheating husband red-handed today.
She had been married to Lenny Foster for a year. However, they were not like the traditional couple at all. They hadn't seen each other or lived under the same roof since they got married.
The marriage was a sham. There was no love or even friendship between them. It was just a complete waste of time.
Scarlet was fed up with being imprisoned by such a marriage. She wanted to get a divorce, but the perfect opportunity hadn't presented itself.
It wasn't until recently that she got a chance. Her best friend abroad had told her that she saw Lenny with a woman several times. He seemed to be having extramarital affairs.
Cheating was a good ground for divorce. Scarlet reasoned that this was a golden opportunity, so she decided to seize it.
In the corridor, she saw a woman bring Lenny to a presidential suite. His steps were unstable and his free hand was dangling. It seemed like he was drunk.
Scarlet walked over to the suite, only to find the door ajar. She heard the woman speaking to someone on the phone.
"You can count on me. I won't fail this time. I'll set the camera perfectly. We can use the sex tape to blackmail him afterward."
Scarlet frowned when she heard this.
Who was this woman? Why was she trying to set Lenny up? Did this mean he wasn't cheating on her?
Although Scarlet didn't have any feelings for Lenny, she couldn't just stand by and watch him fall into a trap.
Gritting her teeth, she stamped her feet and made up her mind. She charged into the room and locked the door.
"Who are you?" the woman questioned immediately.
Scarlet ignored her question. She rushed forward and knocked the woman out. Afterward, she tied her up and dragged her into the bathroom.
She was grateful that she had been able to knock the scheming woman unconscious with just one blow.
Breathing heavily, she looked at the bed in the room. It appeared Lenny had fallen asleep.
Scarlet reasoned that she couldn't get evidence of his infidelity today.
She tucked him in and turned off the bedside lamp. She was about to walk out of the dimly-lit room when something unexpected happened. Her slender wrist was suddenly grabbed by a giant hand.
"Ouch! That hurts. Let me..."
Before Scarlet could finish speaking, the room began to spin. She collapsed on the bed the next second.
A heavy body fell on hers, sinking her into the soft bed. Lenny was now awake!
Lenny couldn't make out the woman's face. But from how her body felt, he knew that she was petite. Her fragrance was soothing. There was something inexplicably familiar about her. It was as if he had met her before.
When he tried to rack his brain, it was blank. He was about to lose control.
Desire surged through his veins like a blazing flame. His heart began to race. He suddenly became so thirsty.
His reason was on the verge of collapse. She was so petite. He doubted that she could bear his passion.
At this time, Scarlet was thinking of a way to escape. She tried to wriggle free. When she placed her hand on his chest to push him away, she realized that his skin was hot.
So hot!
Just when she was about to ask him what happened, his thin lips fell on hers. Scarlet's breathing stopped. A minty fragrance enveloped her.
In the blink of an eye, her clothes were torn off her. What happened next was something she never imagined in her wildest dreams.
Three months later, in Wellholt
"Any news?"
"Not yet, sir. But I have sent more people to look for that girl. Hopefully, they will report something soon."
"Find her!"
"Yes, sir!" Lenny's assistant replied. After hesitating for a moment, he inquired, "I don't mean to pry, Mr. Foster. But do you really want to divorce your wife?"
"Of course! There's someone who is more worthy of being Mrs. Foster than Scarlet." Lenny's tone was flat but powerful. The coldness and determination in his voice could not be ignored.
Ever since that fateful night, Lenny hadn't been able to take off thoughts about that woman. He didn't know how she got into the presidential suite. But he felt indebted to her. She had saved him. More so, he had taken her virginity.
He remembered how she cried and begged for mercy that night. Her voice echoed in his head countless times.
Lenny had no feelings for his wife. It was just a marriage of convenience for both families. He felt that she didn't love him too, so he reasoned that she wouldn't want to be stuck with him for the rest of her life.
Divorce was a relief for both of them.
Meanwhile, at the Foster family's villa
Scarlet had received the news of Lenny's return. He was expected to arrive home in the evening. The domestic staff was busy preparing for his arrival.
Scarlet had been pacing around the house. She wasn't happy at all.
All of a sudden, she heard a car honking from outside. Her forehead broke out in a cold sweat. At the same time, her heart tightened.
Lenny was back!
All the servants went out to welcome Lenny. Scarlet stood at the window of her bedroom on the second floor, looking down at them quietly.
Lenny moved with a leopard-like grace. He cut a dashing figure. His clothes hung on him perfectly.
There was a cold look on his face. He was so tall and his bulky shoulders were proportioned based on the golden ratio. His legs were toned and powerful, flawlessly proportional to his trim hips and waist.
Everything about him was so sensual, yet so intimidating. Scarlet had felt his body on that night, three months ago.
The experience was so overwhelming that she still couldn't believe it actually happened. She had rushed back home at the crack of dawn. She still didn't know how to tell him.
His face was austerely handsome. Every angle of his chiseled features was sharp and precise.
God was so partial. Lenny was not only gifted with a perfect figure and a handsome face, but also high intelligence.
He was still a teenager when he graduated with honors in finance and law. He naturally took over his family's business after graduation. Under his leadership, the company became the best in Wellholt-the capital of the country. It went international a few years ago. The company was rubbing shoulders with other companies that had been in existence for several decades.
Lenny was always busy. A day after they got married, he traveled abroad on the basis that a new branch needed his urgent attention. He hadn't come back ever since.
Scarlet stood there, lost in thought. Goosebumps suddenly popped up on her skin. She looked down, only to find a pair of cold eyes staring at her. She quickly hid behind the curtain.
The next second, she bit her lower lip hard. She didn't know why her first reaction was to hide.
Perhaps it was because she was insecure in front of her absentee husband.
Scarlet's stepmother was the matriarch of the Brown family now. She had been invisible for most of her life. If she hadn't gotten married to Lenny, she would be at home serving at the behest of her stepmother like a servant.
Many years ago, her biological mother saved Lenny's grandmother's life. This was the major reason why she was able to marry Lenny.
Scarlet didn't think Lenny loved her. But he didn't seem to hate her. After all, she had done her part as an obedient wife for over a year.
A servant soon came upstairs and knocked on the door.
"Mrs. Foster, Mr. Foster is back. He wants to have dinner with you downstairs."
Scarlet summoned up the courage to go downstairs immediately.
They sat down at opposite ends of the long dining table.
She liked traditional food, and he liked foreign cuisine. Now that he was home, the chef served the food according to his preferences.
Scarlet got a platter of medium-rare steak for starters. Once she cut a piece of it and saw its redness, she couldn't help feeling sick. She retched, dropping her cutlery.
"What's wrong?" Lenny asked coldly, his eyebrows raised.
"Um. It's just that I'm not used to eating this." Scarlet seldom ate steak. The few times she did, they were always well done. More so, her appetite had been bad recently. Perhaps it was because of the hot weather.
"Get her a well-done steak," Lenny commanded a maid, snapping his fingers.
"Thank you," she muttered appreciatively.
For the rest of the dinner, they didn't speak to each other. They weren't like a couple at all. It seemed like they were strangers who were forced to share a table.
When Lenny was done eating, he wiped his mouth gracefully. After a little hesitation, Scarlet decided to tell him about what happened that night even though her heart was racing.
"Lenny."
"Scarlet."
They blurted out at the same time.
"You go first," Scarlet said and swallowed hard.
He didn't hesitate to speak.
"Scarlet, I want a divorce."
Those words hit her like a bolt out of the blue. It repeated countlessly in her head.
As Scarlet's jaw dropped, a servant brought a file and placed it in front of her. It was a divorce agreement. Lenny had already signed it. His handwriting was neat and firm.
She blinked countless times at the document. A few seconds later, she calmed herself and looked through it.
The division of property was the most important thing in a divorce.
From the clauses, she saw that she would get a shop and an apartment after the divorce. Both properties were worth tens of millions each. They were also in good locations. In addition, she would get fifty million dollars and a small company with a net profit of several million per year.
It wasn't a bad deal, considering that she only slept with him once and their marriage hadn't lasted for long.
Nonetheless, this request was out of the blue. She wondered why he suddenly asked for a divorce.
Scarlet closed the file and looked him straight in the eye for the first time since their first meeting.
He didn't avoid her gaze. It was the first time that he could look at her face carefully. He noticed she was rather beautiful. She had an elfin face. Her eyes were glittering bright and clear like the crystal waters of a lake.
She was very thin, as if she had been starved all the time.
There was something familiar about her figure. It was similar to that of the woman from that fateful night.
At this moment, Lenny decided to fatten up that woman once he met her again.
She was too thin for his liking. He felt sorry for her. Her body seemed like it would have broken if he had been a little rougher that night.
Scarlet suddenly broke the silence. "May I ask why you want a divorce?"
"I'm in love with someone else," Lenny replied without mincing words.
This marriage was a loveless one. Lenny had only agreed to marry Scarlet for his mother's sake. His mother was never treated well by his grandmother. Their relationship only improved after he married Scarlet.
But things had changed now. His grandmother was now old and weak. She no longer had the strength to pick on his mother as she did before. More so, he wanted to find that woman from that night and made her his wife.
Scarlet was a young college student. Their marriage wasn't known to the public. As a result, she wouldn't face ridicule or difficulty if they got divorced.
The wealth he was leaving to her was more than enough to set her up for life.
Lenny was certain that she didn't love him. As far as he was concerned, this was an opportunity for her to go and live her life to the fullest.
What was the point of staying married to someone who one only met twice?
Scarlet's heart sank when she heard his response.
This wasn't the response she expected to get. He fell for someone else despite being married to her.
If this was the case, Scarlet thought it would be a bad idea to tell him that she was the woman he slept with that night.
She had gone abroad to obtain evidence of his infidelity in order to divorce him. He beat her to it by granting her wish unknowingly.
"Okay, I agree," Scarlet said decisively.
The alimony was handsome. Besides, what happened that night wasn't his fault. He wasn't in his right state of mind. Perhaps he regretted his actions now.
She picked up the pen and appended her signature to the document.
"Thank you," Lenny piped up gratefully.
He was relieved that she didn't refuse to grant him a divorce. They were breaking up amicably.
Lenny left instead of staying the night. Scarlet began packing up her stuff.
The next day, Lenny's car arrived to pick her up.
Scarlet dragged her luggage out, with the help of a servant. She looked back at the villa that was her home for over a year.
It was as quiet as when she first arrived here.
The house didn't change. But she did. She used to be a naive girl. Now, she was leaving as a divorced woman.
Scarlet stood under the sun with her luggage beside her after getting the divorce certificate.
As she was in a daze, a car came to a halt in front of her. Lenny's assistant was behind the wheel.
The backseat window was suddenly wound down. Lenny came into sight. He asked calmly, "You need a ride home?"
"No, thanks. I'll take a taxi. Lest I forget, thank you for taking care of me in the past year." Scarlet's lips curled up in a smile.
Lenny had given her a fortune. She decided not to dwell on that night or the fact that he had been absent throughout their marriage.
Lenny nodded briefly and then the car drove away.
Scarlet stood on the roadside, waiting to hail a taxi.
It was the autumn season, but the weather was so hot.
The sun was scorching hot even though it was only past ten o'clock in the morning. Scarlet couldn't help squinting and blocking the sun ray with her hand.
She was standing in a remote area. As a result, taxis were hard to come by.
Sweat was dripping down Scarlet's face and hands. Her throat was parched. Her legs were aching badly. She felt a little dizzy.
Her vision suddenly became blurry. She suffered a banging headache just before everything went black.
Scarlet found herself in a hospital when she regained consciousness. A kind-hearted passer-by brought her to the hospital after she fainted by the roadside.
Holding her forehead, she muttered weakly, "Ahem... What happened to me?"
"You had sunstroke. It's nothing serious. Nevertheless, you need to pay attention to your health since you are pregnant. You are lucky the baby is healthy. You will be good to go once you are well-rested," a nurse explained.
"Eh? What did you just say?"
Scarlet's heart trembled violently and she grabbed the nurse's hand.
"You had sunstroke," the nurse replied simply.
"No, not that. What you said afterward. I am pregnant?" Scarlet inquired, her eyes bulging out of the sockets.
The nurse looked at her confusedly. "Yes! Didn't you know already? You are three months pregnant. You ought to know before now."
