Chapter 1 1

Moonlight spilled over the dense canopy of Blackwood Forest, bathing the treetops in silver. The night air carried the scent of damp earth and pine, but beneath it was something sharper-something primal. A presence lurked in the darkness, watching, waiting.

Serena Evermore stood at the edge of a narrow dirt road, her breath curling into the cool night air. The wind whispered through the trees, stirring strands of her dark hair as she pulled her jacket tighter around herself. She shouldn't have come here. Every instinct in her body screamed at her to turn back, but the dream-the vision-had been too vivid to ignore.

The same dream had haunted her for weeks. A pair of glowing golden eyes, locked on hers with an intensity that sent heat licking through her veins. A deep voice, raw and commanding, whispering her name like a vow. And then-darkness. A void so cold and endless it left her gasping for air.

She didn't know why, but she had felt compelled to follow it. Something was drawing her here, to this desolate stretch of forest, miles away from the city lights she had always known.

A sharp rustle in the underbrush snapped her attention back to the present. Her heart leaped into her throat as she turned sharply.

"Who's there?"

Silence. Then-another rustle.

Serena swallowed hard. She wasn't foolish enough to think she was alone.

The feeling of being watched intensified. A shiver crawled up her spine, but she refused to let fear take hold. She had seen things-visions, glimpses of futures yet to unfold. This moment, this exact moment, had been one of them.

Her fingers curled into fists as she took a slow step forward.

"Come out," she said, her voice steady despite the rapid thudding of her heart.

The forest exhaled a breath of silence. Then, from the shadows, a figure emerged.

He stepped into the pale glow of the moon, his movements fluid and controlled, like a predator stalking its prey.

Serena's breath hitched.

The man was tall-towering over her by at least a foot. His frame was all hard muscle, wrapped in a black shirt that clung to his body, the sleeves pushed up to reveal forearms dusted with dark hair. But it was his face that stole her breath. Sharp, chiseled features, a strong jawline, and full lips that were pressed into a thin, unreadable line. His hair was dark, tousled by the wind, but it was his eyes that pinned her in place.

Golden. Burning. Otherworldly.

The same eyes from her visions.

Serena felt her stomach twist. This wasn't possible. It had been a dream-a fragment of her subconscious playing tricks on her. And yet, here he was. Flesh and blood.

His gaze flicked over her, sharp and assessing.

"You shouldn't be here," he said, his voice low, edged with something dark.

Serena's fingers twitched. There was something dangerous about him, something that sent warning bells ringing in her mind. But there was also something else. A pull. A strange, magnetic force that made it impossible for her to look away.

"I-" she swallowed. "I had a dream. About you."

A muscle in his jaw ticked.

His expression remained unreadable, but his stance shifted-just slightly, as if her words had unsettled him.

"You dreamt about me."

It wasn't a question.

Serena nodded. "For weeks now. Your eyes. Your voice." She hesitated before adding, "Your name."

For a long moment, he said nothing. Then, almost reluctantly, he spoke.

"What did you see?"

Serena hesitated. The truth felt too heavy, too intimate to spill to a complete stranger.

"A darkness," she admitted. "Something cold. Dangerous. And you were there."

His lips pressed into a hard line. "You need to leave."

Serena blinked. "What?"

"You don't belong here."

She frowned, a spark of irritation flaring to life beneath her confusion. "I didn't come here by accident. I was meant to be here."

His gaze darkened. "You don't understand."

"Then make me understand."

Silence stretched between them, thick and charged. His golden eyes burned into hers, as if he were trying to decide whether she was a threat-or something worse.

Then, with a low growl, he stepped closer.

The air between them tightened, crackling with something she didn't have a name for.

"I don't know what you think you saw, but this place is dangerous," he said, his voice dipping into something almost gentle, though it was lined with steel. "And so am I."

Serena swallowed, her pulse hammering. She should have been afraid. Every instinct in her screamed that this man-whoever he was-was not safe.

But she wasn't afraid.

She was intrigued.

And that scared her more than anything else.

Chapter 2 2

The moment stretched between them, thick with something unnamed. Serena knew she should step back, create distance between herself and this stranger with golden eyes and an aura of barely restrained danger. But she didn't.

Instead, she tilted her chin up, meeting his gaze without flinching. "If you're dangerous," she said, her voice steady, "then why haven't you hurt me?"

His jaw clenched, his body going rigid. "Don't test me."

She didn't move. Neither did he. The space between them felt charged, humming with a strange energy that sent goosebumps skittering down her arms.

"What's your name?" she asked softly.

For a moment, he didn't answer. The muscles in his forearms flexed, and she had the distinct feeling that he was waging some kind of internal battle. Then-

"Talon," he said, his voice rough, unwilling.

Serena exhaled. Talon. The name tasted familiar, like something she'd always known but never spoken aloud. She had heard it in her dreams, whispered in the darkness between visions, but now-he was real.

He was staring at her like he was trying to figure out whether she was a threat or a puzzle he couldn't solve. His golden eyes flickered in the moonlight, unreadable and intense.

"You need to go home, Serena."

She stiffened at the sound of her name. "How do you-"

His expression darkened. "You shouldn't be here," he repeated, his voice tight. "This forest... it's not safe for people like you."

Her heart pounded, but she forced herself to hold his gaze. "People like me?"

His lip curled, as if he regretted saying it. "Humans."

Serena's breath hitched. "How do you know I'm human?"

Talon exhaled sharply, running a hand through his dark hair in frustration. "Because I can smell it."

The words sent a chill through her, but she fought to keep her expression neutral. "You can smell it?"

His gaze locked onto hers. "Yes."

Something inside her shifted, something instinctive, raw. She should have been terrified, should have turned and run the moment he admitted that. But instead, her mind latched onto something else.

If he could smell her, if he wasn't human-then what was he?

Talon took a slow step forward, and despite herself, Serena's breath caught. He moved like a predator-controlled, graceful, deadly. The moonlight outlined the sharp planes of his face, casting shadows that only made him look more dangerous.

"I don't know why you came here, but you need to forget you ever saw me," he murmured. "Forget my name. Forget this place."

Serena swallowed hard. "I can't."

His jaw tensed. "Why?"

"Because I saw you," she whispered. "I saw this-us-before it ever happened."

A muscle in his jaw ticked. "What the hell are you talking about?"

Serena hesitated, but there was no turning back now. "I have visions," she admitted. "Dreams. And for the past few weeks, they've been about you."

Something shifted in his expression. It was subtle, but she caught it-a flicker of recognition, of something deeper. He was trying to hide it, but he knew something.

"What did you see?" His voice was softer now, but there was something in it-something dangerous.

She hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But before she could speak, a sudden, sharp sound split the night-a low, guttural growl, deep in the forest behind them.

Talon's entire body went rigid.

Serena turned, scanning the darkness. The trees stretched high into the sky, their branches clawing toward the stars, but she saw nothing. Heard nothing.

Then-another growl. Closer this time.

A cold prickle ran down her spine.

Talon cursed under his breath. "Damn it," he muttered. "They followed me."

Serena's pulse skyrocketed. "Who-"

Before she could finish, Talon grabbed her wrist. His grip was firm, but not painful-just enough to make her skin tingle.

"No time," he said, voice low. "We need to move. Now."

Serena barely had time to process the words before he was pulling her into the trees.

Chapter 3 3

The trees closed in around them as Talon moved with a fluidity that bordered on inhuman. His grip on her wrist was unyielding, guiding her through the underbrush with ease, his every step calculated and precise. Serena stumbled behind him, her breath catching as twigs cracked beneath her feet and shadows seemed to reach out from every direction.

"What's happening?" she gasped, her heart pounding in her chest. "What is that growl?"

Talon didn't answer right away. He kept his head turned toward the path ahead, his gaze scanning the forest with an intensity that sent a thrill of unease down Serena's spine.

"You're in danger," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "That growl? It's the sound of a pack-one that doesn't like strangers."

Serena's pulse quickened. "A pack?"

"Not a normal pack," he replied, voice edged with something darker. "They're hunters. Predators."

His words hung in the air like a threat, and Serena's legs moved faster, propelled by the fear gnawing at her gut. She wanted to ask him more, wanted to demand answers to all the questions swirling in her mind, but the terror in his voice made her silence herself.

They reached a clearing, the moonlight falling on a small, forgotten cabin tucked away in the trees. It looked abandoned, the windows dark and the door slightly ajar.

"Get inside," Talon ordered, pushing the door open with one smooth motion. Serena hesitated only a moment before following him into the cabin.

The door slammed shut behind them, the wood creaking under the sudden force. Inside, the air was thick with the smell of old wood and dust. There was little light except for the dim glow filtering through cracks in the walls.

Talon didn't stop to catch his breath. His eyes were fixed on the door, his chest rising and falling with barely contained tension.

"What do they want with me?" Serena asked, her voice trembling despite her best efforts to keep calm.

"They want you dead," he said, the words coming out like a cold slap. "And they'll do whatever it takes to get what they want."

Serena took a step back, her mind spinning. "What did I do? Why me?"

Talon's gaze softened for the briefest moment, a flicker of something that could almost be mistaken for regret. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by the sharp, calculating look that had never left his eyes since they met.

"You're not just any human," he said. "You're part of something much bigger. Something they've been hunting for a long time."

Serena's stomach churned. "What do you mean?"

Talon's eyes locked onto hers. "You're a seer, Serena. A damn powerful one. And they know it. That's why they're coming for you."

A seer?

The word echoed in her mind, but she couldn't make sense of it. "I don't understand. I've always seen things-visions-but I'm not some kind of... oracle or anything."

Talon let out a low growl of frustration. "No, you're not some oracle. But your visions? They're not just dreams. You've been seeing the future. And that means you're a threat."

Serena's head spun. A seer? She had never believed her visions meant anything other than the odd flashes of the future that left her feeling disoriented, as if the universe was playing tricks on her. But now, standing here, her pulse racing, the weight of Talon's words started to sink in. She wasn't just a random woman caught up in something she didn't understand.

The cabin door suddenly rattled with a force that made her heart stutter. Someone-or something-was outside, pounding against the wood. The growl from earlier sounded again, deeper and more guttural, as if it were being fed by a hunger too powerful to ignore.

Talon's body stiffened. "Get back," he ordered, voice clipped. He turned toward the window, his posture tense, as if he could sense what was coming before it even appeared.

Serena's breath caught in her throat. "Talon-what's happening? What are they?"

Talon's voice was low, a warning. "Wolves. But not the kind you've ever seen."

Before she could ask him what he meant, the door burst open with a deafening crack.

A figure stood in the doorway-tall, menacing, with eyes glowing a feral yellow that mirrored Talon's. But unlike Talon's, these eyes were full of malice, hunger, and rage.

The figure's lips curled into a snarl, revealing sharp, predatory fangs. His body was covered in a tight-fitting black leather jacket, but the most unnerving part was the presence he exuded-dark, controlling, and hungry.

"Step aside, Wildshadow," the figure growled, his voice low and dangerous. "We've come for the girl."

Talon's growl was low and warning. "You'll have to go through me first."

The figure's eyes flickered to Serena, narrowing with recognition. "You're the one, aren't you?" he hissed, stepping forward, his eyes never leaving her face. "The prophecy is true."

Serena's heart raced, her pulse hammering in her chest. The prophecy? What the hell were they talking about?

Talon stepped forward, putting himself between her and the intruder. His entire body radiated tension, muscles coiled like a predator ready to strike.

"You won't touch her," Talon spat, his voice filled with an icy threat.

The figure let out a low, mocking laugh. "You think you can stop me, Wildshadow? You're a fool."

The moment the words left his mouth, he lunged.

Serena barely had time to react before Talon was already moving, his body a blur of speed and strength. The two men collided with a sickening thud, the sound of bone and flesh meeting echoing through the cabin.

Serena stumbled back, her mind reeling from the violence unfolding in front of her. The fight between them was savage-brutal. Talon and the intruder were locked in a deadly grapple, snarling and growling like wild animals, their fangs gleaming in the dim light.

She was trapped-caught in the middle of something she couldn't comprehend. The cabin, the fight, the prophecy... it was all too much.

And then, just as quickly as the fight had started, Talon landed a blow that sent the intruder crashing into the wall. He crumpled to the ground, groaning in pain.

Talon stood over him, his chest heaving, but his eyes locked onto Serena with a fierce intensity.

"Stay back," he warned. "I'll deal with him."

But Serena didn't move. Her heart thundered in her chest as she stared at the men in the cabin-the two powerful, dangerous forces clashing before her. She was caught in something far darker than she ever could have imagined.

And no matter how much she wanted to run, she couldn't. Not when her destiny had already been written.
