Chapter 1

Kenzie POV:

I stood behind the massive oak doors, listening to the muffled whispers of the guests. My heart was a steady, even drum against my ribs-far too steady for a bride on the verge of a life-altering alliance.

"Kole is ten minutes late as today's groom," my maid of honor, Nia, whispered, her breath warm against my ear. Her own scent was sharp with anxiety.

I peeked through the crack in the doors. I could see my brother, Elias, his brow furrowed as he spoke in low tones with the Elders of the Black Moon Pack. My other bridesmaid, Serena, was nervously twisting the silk ribbons on her bouquet.

"Maybe it's just traffic," Serena offered, though we all knew it was a lie. For an Alpha, on the day of his bonding ceremony, nothing short of war would make him late.

I took a deep breath. The air, thick with the scent of lilies and the nervous pheromones of hundreds of werewolves, felt suffocating. This is a transaction, I reminded myself. A deal for the honor of my pack, Silver Creek.

Suddenly, the music died. The murmur of the crowd cut off, replaced by a silence so profound it was a physical weight. Then came the first gasp, sharp and horrified.

Nia's face went white. She stared past the door, her lips trembling, unable to form words. The calm in my chest finally fractured.

I pushed past her and looked for myself. I didn't see my blond-haired fiancé, Kole Stone. Instead, I saw a woman in a washed-out blue dress. Brenna Rose. Kole's secretary. An Omega.

She was walking down the aisle, down the path of white petals laid for me, a sick, triumphant flush on her cheeks. Every step she took was a slap across my face, a slap across the face of the Silver Creek Pack.

Blood rushed to my head, then receded just as quickly, leaving my fingertips numb and cold. Humiliation was a tide of ice water, pulling me under. I could hear the whispers now, a venomous cloud of pity, mockery, and morbid fascination.

Brenna stopped just before the dais, lifting her chin. Her watery eyes were filled with a pathetic sort of defiance. "Kole isn't coming," she announced, her voice not loud, but it echoed like a thunderclap in the silent hall. "He chose me."

I felt the raw power of my brother's Alpha aura flare beside me, thick with rage. But I raised a hand, stopping him.

I stared at Brenna, forcing myself to take in every detail. A smear of mud stained the hem of her cheap dress, and a few loose strands had escaped her hastily pinned-up hair. This wasn't some carefully planned victory. It was a rushed, messy elopement, and the realization cut through the haze in my head like ice-cold water.

My gaze lifted past her to the head table. Kole's mother, Elle Richardson, sat there with fury and shame written plainly across her face. Then my eyes found the man at the very center of it all. Gannon Stone.

The Alpha King of the Black Moon Pack. Kole's uncle. He sat perfectly still, his golden eyes fixed on me with a focus that made my breath catch. Something deep inside me stirred at the sight of him, sudden and instinctive, as if some part of me had recognized him long before I ever knew his name. I couldn't explain it, but the strange pull between us made the rest of the room seem to fade away.

Elias was at my side in an instant, his voice a sharp command in my mind, a privilege of our shared blood. Kenzie, this is an act of war. We have to respond, or Silver Creek becomes a laughingstock.

I knew. To be publicly jilted at a bonding ceremony was the deepest insult one Pack could deliver to another. "

There's another option, Elias pressed, his thoughts turning sharp and calculating. A way to turn this disaster into a victory. Gannon Stone. Black Moon needs our alliance, and Gannon needs a Luna to solidify the throne he just took from his father. Archie always wanted it to be him.

My eyes met Gannon's again. His gaze was so intense it felt like he was peeling back my skin to see the soul beneath. A wild, desperate plan bloomed in the wreckage of my pride. I would not be a victim. I would seize control.

I took one final, deep breath, then rushed toward the center of the stage. With every ounce of strength I possessed, I made my voice ring through the hall, clear and cold. "I, Kenzie Emerson, hereby reject Kole Stone as my mate." It was an irrevocable vow in the world of werewolves. The moment the words left my lips, I felt a faint, spiritual thread connecting me to Kole snap, a brief, sharp sting deep in my soul.

The hall erupted. Brenna's face went from flushed red to stark white. She expected tears, a breakdown. She never expected me to be the one to sever the bond.

I didn't give her a moment to recover. I gathered the heavy satin of my wedding gown and walked down the steps, through the stunned crowd, straight toward Gannon.

Every eye followed me. I could feel their shock, their confusion, their anticipation. Each step felt like walking on a blade's edge, but I kept my spine straight, my chin high.

I stopped before him. Up close, his scent was overwhelming-cedar and a coming storm, a clean, masculine power that almost made my knees weak. I forced myself to look directly into those predatory golden eyes.

"Alpha King Gannon," my voice trembled slightly, but I held it steady. "The Black Moon Pack requires a Luna, and the Silver Creek Pack requires an ally. Since your nephew is incapable of fulfilling his duty, I propose that you take his place."

He didn't answer immediately. He just watched me, a storm brewing in the depths of his eyes. I felt his inner wolf assessing me, stripping me bare.

Just as my composure started to crack, I felt a surge of raw, possessive power from him, a silent roar that vibrated through my very soul. Mine! The word was a brand, seared into my mind so fast I thought I'd imagined it.

Slowly, he rose to his feet, his immense height casting a shadow over me. The entire hall held its breath.

He looked only at me, the corner of his mouth tipping up in a small, dangerous smile. "I accept your proposal, Kenzie Emerson."

Then, he held out his hand. It was large, knuckles scarred, radiating power.

I looked at that hand, then back to his face. I knew that taking it would send my life hurtling down a path I had never intended. But it would be my choice.

I placed my hand in his. His skin was scorching hot, and a jolt, like a raw current of electricity, shot up my arm, making my heart stutter in my chest.

Gannon's fingers closed around mine, pulling me to his side to face the crowd. His voice was not loud, but it carried the weight of absolute authority. "The ceremony will continue."

I glanced at Brenna. All the color had drained from her face. She stood there, a limp doll, the air knocked out of her. Kole's mother looked like her world had just ended.

Gannon leaned down, his voice a low rumble against my ear, for my ears only. "But understand this, Kenzie. I am no one's replacement. From this moment on, you belong to me."

Chapter 2

Kenzie POV:

I followed Gannon into a lavish private lounge, the door clicking shut behind us and sealing off the noise of the hall. The adrenaline that had held me together evaporated, leaving a bone-deep exhaustion in its place. The walk from the ceremonial hall to this room had been a blur. Gannon's hand had remained locked around mine, his heat and strength a constant, terrifying reminder of the choice I had just made.

He released my hand and moved to a crystal decanter on a sidebar, pouring two glasses of an amber liquid. He offered one to me. I shook my head. I needed clarity, not alcohol.

He shrugged, unconcerned, and downed one glass in a single, smooth motion. Leaning against the floor-to-ceiling window, he watched me. "You did well," he said, his voice low and flat, impossible to read. "Brave."

I straightened my spine, meeting his gaze. "I was saving my family's honor, Alpha King. And ensuring the alliance between our packs didn't crumble because of your nephew's foolishness." I deliberately stressed the political nature of our arrangement.

From my small clutch, I pulled out a document I'd had prepared-a prenuptial agreement intended for Kole. It seemed absurd now. I walked to the heavy mahogany desk and began striking out Kole's name with a pen. "We need to discuss the rules, Gannon." I didn't look up, the scratching of the pen the only sound. "This is a political marriage. We must be clear on that."

"Oh?" A thread of amusement entered his voice. I felt him move, his powerful Alpha presence enveloping me again. He stood behind me, leaning down until his warm breath ghosted over the shell of my ear, raising goosebumps on my skin. "What kind of rules?"

I forced myself to ignore the shiver that ran down my spine. "First, in public, we are the devoted couple to solidify the alliance. In private, we do not interfere with one another. We maintain our own spaces."

"Separate spaces?" He chuckled, the sound vibrating through my chest. "Kenzie, you seem to have a rather... unique understanding of the word 'mate.' The Moon Goddess doesn't approve of mates having 'separate spaces.'" His words were a casual reminder of the sacred laws that governed our world, laws I was trying to rewrite with a human contract.

I stopped writing and turned to face him. We were too close; I could almost see my own nervous reflection in his golden eyes. "And what's your understanding? A marriage of convenience to silence the gossip?"

Gannon didn't answer. Instead, he reached out, his fingertips gently brushing against my cheek, finally stopping on my lips. His touch was searingly hot. I froze, instinctively wanting to step back, but the desk was behind me. I had nowhere to go.

"My understanding," he finally spoke, his voice lower, with a hint of huskiness, "is that from the moment you chose me in front of the entire Pack, you became mine. My Luna, my mate, my everything."

My heart skipped a beat. I forced myself to remain calm. "That's your Alpha's control freak nature talking. I agreed to be your Luna, not your property."

"Is that so?" He smiled, pulling his hand back, but the burning sensation of his touch seemed to linger on my skin. "We'll see." He took a step back, creating distance, but the air in the room only grew hotter. He pointed to the document in my hand. "I agree to your first proposal. In public, we will be the perfect couple."

I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding, thinking he was conceding.

"As for in private," he pivoted, a cunning glint in his golden eyes, "I have my own rules."

I watched him warily. "What rules?"

"Simple," he said. "As my Luna, you will move into my estate and live in my quarters. The Alpha and Luna of a Pack do not live separately."

My heart sank. "I refuse. We can live under the same roof, but in separate rooms."

"This is my bottom line, Kenzie." Gannon's tone was non-negotiable, his Alpha's command subtly released, making my breath catch. "Or, you can tell everyone right now that the alliance we just forged is nothing but a joke."

I clenched my jaw. He knew my weakness-my family's honor and the Pack's interests. I stared him down, trying to find a flicker of wavering in his face, but there was only a calm, unchallengeable authority.

After a long moment, I grit out two words: "Fine. Deal."

Gannon smiled, satisfied. "Good. Then, my Luna, welcome home." He deliberately emphasized the words "my" and "home."

I looked at him, knowing with absolute certainty that this "political marriage" had, from the very beginning, spun out of my control. Gannon, this man, was far more dangerous than I ever imagined.

He turned to leave, pausing at the door to look back at me.

"Oh, and by the way," he said, as if he just remembered, "that agreement. You won't be needing it."

I looked at him, confused.

"The bond between us," he pointed to his own heart, then to mine, "is witnessed by the Moon Goddess. No paper contract can be more binding than that. And don't think you can use it to restrain me."

Chapter 3

Kenzie POV:

I followed Gannon back into the ceremonial hall. Every eye was on us, a mixture of awe and probing curiosity. I could feel Gannon's hand, tight around mine, a public declaration of ownership.

On the short walk back, I had tried to pull away, but he'd only tightened his grip, his voice a teasing whisper in my mind. We're acting, remember? It starts now. It was infuriating.

The Elder who was officiating the ceremony, a man with deep lines of wisdom etched into his face, was already on the dais. He looked at us, his expression complex, but he gave a solemn nod for us to approach.

We stood before him. He picked up a ceremonial dagger-not silver, of course-to slice our palms and mingle our blood, a traditional part of the bonding rite.

"By the witness of the Moon Goddess," the Elder intoned, "Alpha King Gannon Stone of the Black Moon Pack and Princess Kenzie Emerson of the Silver Creek Pack are hereby joined in the sacred contract of mates."

I held out my hand, bracing for the symbolic sting. But Gannon stopped the Elder.

"Wait," Gannon's voice cut through the hall. "My Luna, my way."

Before I or anyone else could react, Gannon took my hand. He didn't use the dagger. Instead, he lifted my hand to his mouth and bit down, his own canine tooth slicing a shallow line across my palm.

A sharp pain made me gasp, but the sensation of his tooth against my skin sent a strange, electric shiver through my entire body. Without hesitation, he bit his own palm and pressed our bleeding hands together, hard.

The moment our blood mixed, a powerful energy surged between us. I felt as if an invisible cord had just been cinched tight around our very souls, a thousand times stronger than the flimsy connection I'd had with Kole. I looked at him in shock, his golden eyes burning with a possessive fire. I could have sworn I heard the satisfied roar of his inner wolf in the back of my mind, but I dismissed it as a trick of his overwhelming Alpha presence.

The Elder, momentarily stunned, quickly recovered. "Blood has mingled. The contract is sealed. Now, Alpha, you may kiss your Luna."

I braced myself for a formal, public kiss, the kind I had rehearsed with Kole. I was already planning to pull back immediately, to reassert my boundaries.

But Gannon gave me no such chance. His arm slid around my waist and pulled me firmly against the hard warmth of his body. His other hand settled at the back of my head, his fingers threading into my hair as he tilted my face toward him. Before I could gather my thoughts, his lips came down on mine.

The kiss stole the breath from my lungs.

His cedar-and-storm scent surrounded me, warm and overwhelming. His lips lingered against mine, pressing deeper with a confidence that made my pulse race. When his tongue brushed against my lower lip, I instinctively parted them, and the small surrender sent a shiver through me. My fingers tightened against his chest before I could stop myself.

The shocked murmur of the guests seemed to fade into the background. All I could feel was the heat of him, the steady pressure of his hand at my waist, and the unsettling pull that kept drawing me closer. A strange warmth gathered low in my belly, spreading through me with every second of the kiss. I hated how easily my body responded to him, how my resistance weakened even while my mind screamed at me to pull away.

When he finally eased back, he didn't let me go. His hand remained firm at my waist, keeping me close enough that I could still feel the warmth of his breath against my lips. I drew in a shaky breath, my legs unsteady beneath me.

My lips tingled, swollen from the kiss.

I lifted my eyes to him, intending to glare.

But his golden gaze held mine, dark and unwavering, with a quiet satisfaction that made my pulse quicken.

Now they all know whose you are, his voice echoed in my mind, smug and satisfied.

He held up our joined, blood-smeared hands for the silent crowd to see. "Honor your Luna!" Gannon's voice was a king's decree.

After a beat of stunned silence, the hall exploded with thunderous applause and cheers. They weren't cheering for a political alliance. They were cheering because their Alpha King had claimed his mate.

I looked at the excited faces in the crowd, then at the domineering, unpredictable man beside me, my mind a whirlwind of chaos. In his arms, I could feel the powerful, steady beat of his heart against my chest, and mine was hammering in a frantic, chaotic rhythm that seemed to be trying to match his.

My brother Elias raised his glass to me from the crowd, a knowing, almost smug look on his face.

And Brenna, forgotten in a corner, stared at us with eyes full of venom and disbelief. In that moment, I felt no victory, only the dizzying sensation of being pulled into a vortex far deeper and more dangerous than I had ever anticipated.

Gannon leaned in again, his whisper a promise and a threat. "Don't be afraid, Kenzie. This is only the beginning."
