Checkmate: Jace & Lexi's Story

Jace's Point of View

Who would think a boring game of chess would become so interesting? That was until I met, Lexi Pearson. My father's wife's daughter. Yeah, Yeah, I know stepsister. But not really. My brother and I didn't even know they got married a day before they was to return home from Vegas.

That is right.

My father, Kevin Davis and Stacy Pearson eloped on my father's business trip that was supposed to last week turned into a three-month honeymoon. He didn't even tell us that he got married when he called us saying that he was staying out there for three months. I didn't even know that my father was seeing anyone, never mind marrying someone.

Gold digger keeps running through my mind. That is a woman that convince a man to marry them when the man is wealthy. My father was wealthy, and I have no clue about this Stacy person besides that she has two daughters. Lexi who is twenty – two and Lily who is five. I guess Lily was a miracle baby for Stacy and her ex – husband.

My father and Stacy died in the plane that was taking them home.

Something malfunction in the plane in the air. It was too late when they realized there was something wrong. There was no survivors.

My father built the company that was just handed to me and my brother Leo. Okay, Lily and Lexi is getting a piece of it two which pissed me off. What pissed my off more was that my father and his new wife decided to make a cause in the will. Henry didn't even warn us that he helped them out.

"What do you mean that we all have live in the mansion in Manie for six months." I snarled at Henry. My father's lawyer as well as mine. He nodded as he handed me the will the day after the funeral. The day after I met Lexi and her little sister.

Leo shook his head as he is a young version of myself. He is eighteen and is a bit softer than I am. Leo and Lexi got along very well.

I am twenty – nine businessman. I stood six feet two with dark hair and dark brown eyes. My glasses was more for the dramatics to make me look like a smart businessman. Okay. They are for reading. The ladies love them.

At the gym, I have the woman lining up for me. They watched my muscle twitched as I lifted a bar. My expensive suits hide the muscles that I have.

I looked down at my chess board as Leo tilted his head, "This isn't Lexi or Lily's fault, Jace. Can't you just give them a chance?"

I shook my head as I hovered my hand over the pieces, "Why should I? Plus, you only knew them for a couple hours. How don't you know that they are just going to finish what their mother started?" Leo let out a groaned, "Jace. You need to stop thinking that every woman is a gold digger. I know that our mother took off with a man that had more money than us but come on."

Thanks for that Leo. Let's place the dragger where it belong. In my heart after mom ran off. He doesn't remember that I had to pick up the pieces from that. He was just a baby. Dad was destroyed after mom left.

I never believed in the whole happy ending shit.

I picked up my piece and moved to the spot as I smirked, "Checkmate, brother." Henry shook his head, "The four of you are going to Manie for six months. Now, Jace stop acting like a child and give Lily and Lexi a chance." I threw my head back, "She got to you, too."

Henry shook his head as he chuckled, "What? She fucking hot and she is sweet. Do you know what she does for work?"

I tilted my head as I shrugged my shoulders, "Personally, I don't care. But at least the gold digger got a job." Leo crossed his arms as he narrowed his eyes at me, "She is the youngest pediatrician in New England."

I waved my arms in the air, "So, she good with kids. Doesn't stop them from being scam artists." Henry shook his head, "All those woman that your father got involved with really messed with your head." I shrugged my shoulders, "Let's throw my mother into this, too."

Henry pointed to me, "You are going and if you don't you give up your portion of the business." I bite the inside of my cheek stopping me from flipping out right now. I got up from the table as I swiped the pieces of the chess board on to the floor, "I will be there."

I walked towards the door as my brother smirked, "I will see you bright and early."

Henry ran to the door as I stepped off the porch when he yelled at me, "She likes chess also." I turned to him as I raised an eyebrow, "And?" He chuckled as he shook his head, "Not the board game. Oh, though she does like to play on the board also."

I shrugged as he walked closer to me, "I saw the way you looked at her." I turned my head, "Fuck, like every other man looked at her."

He shook his head, "No, yours went to your heart. It made it skip didn't it?" I crossed my arms, "No. It didn't." He pointed to me as he smirked, "Yes, it did." I sighed, "Okay, explain what you mean by she likes to play chess."

He smirked as he let his hands out to the side, "It was something that her mom did after her father left them and sighed over his rights." I tilted my head, "Why did he sighed over his rights?" He shook his head, "That is something that she will need to tell you. But anytime they would make a step up in the world like her becoming a doctor, they will say checkmate." He chuckled, "Her mom got your dad into it before the plane went down." I tilted my head, "What do you mean?"

He chuckled, "It was kind of cute when I met them in Vegas to redo the will." I rolled my eyes, "Just out of my own state of mind. How do you play?" Henry looked up to me, "Well, Challenge them with something. Like."

He tilted his head side to side, "Like getting her to beg you to fuck her. You tease the fuck out of her then stop right when she right at the edge then say Checkmate. That gives them a turn to test you. When the person breaks first then the other wins."

He threw his arms in the air, "Of course that is just an example of what you could use it for. For her and her mom it was to become better people in their lives."

I bowed my head as I took a deep breath, "I am not playing the stupid game." He smirked at me, "Checkmate, buddy." I groaned as I walked to my car, "Asshole." Henry chuckled, "Have fun."

I stood with Leo at the car when we was on the sidewalk waiting for the princesses as I groaned, "And they couldn't take their own car." He shook his head, "Her car broke down last night after a late shift. Plus, she is working on like two hours of sleep."

I rolled my eyes as I see Lily run out the apartment towards Leo. Leo bent down and gave her a hug as Lexi walked out. I walked up to her as I held my hand out for her bags, "I can take that." She pulled the bag from me, "I can do it."

I placed my hands up, "If you say so." She struggled down the stairs. I watched her ass as her honey golden hair moved into her face. Her ocean blues looked towards Lily as she moved the bags down the stairs.

Leo lifted five years old Lily into his arms as he tilted his head, "Are you sure you don't need help, Lexi?" She shook her head as she huff and puff to the car, "I got it, Thank you, Leo." Leo walked up to her as Lily reached for her, "Take her, I got your bags." He narrowed his eyes at me as I pointed, "I offer. What do you want me to do, hold a gun to her."

Lexi turned around as she snarled, "You just trying to be helpful because of what you said to me yesterday." I groaned as I walked to the car, "Is that all your bags?" She nodded as she got Lily into the booster seat that Leo had to stop at the store for. Lexi signed something to Lily as Lily giggled.

I tilted my head as I asked her, "What did you say?" She tilted her head to me as she smirked, "It is a secret." Leo chuckled as he closed the hatch of the SUV. I placed my arms out, "What? What did you say to her?" Lexi went to the other side and hoped in. Leo came to my side as he tapped my chest, "Checkmate, Bro."

I shook my head as I walked over to the driver side.

Checkmate.

If that how she wants to play, then maybe that little tidbit that Henry told me is going to be at my advantage.

As soon as we get to Maine, game on.

Lexi's Point of View

I felt little hands smack my face as I lifted my head from Lily's lap. She signed that she has to go the bathroom. I cleared my throat as Jace, the asshole drove. He kept his eyes on the road as he asked me, "Did you say something?" I sighed, "Lily needs to use the bathroom." He groaned as he pulled off the highway, "Of course."

He pulled to a little diner as I walked Lily to the bathroom. Leo asked me before I took her, "You guys hungry. We have like another three hours to go." I nodded as I smirked, "Yeah. Grab some grill cheeses." He nodded as I walked off to the rest rooms.

I let Lily into the bathroom when I waited in the hallway. Jace walked down as he smirked, "She didn't fall in did she." I shook my head, "You would like that, wouldn't you. Then you won't have worry about her getting pieces of your business." He tensed up as he faced me when he growled, "So, that is your plan. You just like the rest of them."

I tilted my head as I rolled my eyes, "You really have no clue why I agreed to this stupid trip." It wasn't about getting anything except for my mother's necklace that was found in the plane crash. I swear my mother knew what was going to happened.

According to Leo depending on the events of our lives that the will was to be adjusted. I just couldn't understand what my mother was thinking marrying Kevin Davis. They just met then they was married.

Thankfully, I had months of vacation and sick time stored away at work. Doctors at a hospital didn't normally took six months off all at once from the job but the hospital made exception since my mother died. They gave me the time I needed.

He bowed his head as his hand went to my hips. My hands went to his rock – hard chest. Why does he have to be a god? He lifted his head up to met my eyes as I looked into his dark brown eyes as he smirked. I tilted my head to him as I pushed his chest, "Jace?"

The bathroom door opened as Lily exited it. I walked her to the car as Jace came out of the diner, "Leo, why don't you sit in the back with Lily." Leo shrugged his shoulders as I finish placing Lily into her booster seat, "Works for me."

I rolled my eyes as I got into the SUV. I stripped off my tee shirt as I had a tank top underneath. Jace's eyes darted over to me as he started the car, "If you need the a/c on, I can turn it on for you." I shook my head as I laid my head back with my tee shirt behind my head, "No, I am good."

No, not really. It is freaken hot at the end of June. I am just stubborn to let him know that. We are going to be in Maine until new year. This stupid agreement. I decided to only bring summer clothes then pick-up winter gear when it started to get cold. That why, I don't have all this crap I need to help me take care of Lily. Leo handed out lunches for everyone as he signed with Lily. I smirked as I laid my head back and took a bite of my grill cheese. Leo was a sweet man. Leo and I got along just great at the funeral. He was caring and concern about Lily and I. Unlike his brother Jace. I am shocked that they was brothers. I was completely shocked.

We drove by the zoo as I perked my head up. Jace tilted his head, "You never been?" I shook my head as he smirked, "No. Have you?" He nodded as he turned his directional on, "Maybe Leo and I need a trip down memory lane." I looked back at Leo as he smirked signed to Lily telling her that we are going to the zoo. We got out of the car as I stretched out my legs. I noticed that Jace was staring at me as my tank top lifted over my small stomach. I tilted my head, "What?" He shook his head when Lily grabbed his hand. His muscles tensed up then relaxed as we walked to the entrance of the Zoo.

I leaned over the railing to look down into the tiger exhibit as Leo took Lily to check out the elephants. I tilted my head to Jace as he focused on the tiger. I turned my back towards the tigers as I crossed my arms, "You know that I am not happy with all this." He tilted his head to me, "I can't tell. You seemed so happy when you was told you was on a free vacation."

I rolled my eyes, "What made you so bitter?" He chuckled as my fingers slid against his, "I am not bitter. I am cautious with people that marries someone they just met." I nodded as my fingers traveled up his arm as I noticed his breathing started to get heavy.

Got him.

My breast brushed up against his chest when my fingers reached his neck. His arm moved around my waist as he reached for the railing. My eyes traveled to his eyes as his muscles tensed up from my touch. I leaned up on my toes where he so freakishly tall as my lips touched his neck softly.

I tilted my head towards his ear as my lips was inches from his ear when I gave a slight blow then whispered, "Checkmate, Your move." He chuckled as he looked down at me as he dipped his head closer to my lips, "Baby girl, you got to do more than that to make me beg."

I shrugged my shoulders, "What said I wanted you, too?" He stared into my eyes as he pulled back, "The thing is, you will be on your knees begging me before I break."

I tilted my head to him, "And what exactly am I going to be begging for?" He moved his body so I am trapped between the tigers that sat behind the glass that could rip me to thousand pieces and the man that looks like he about to rip me into thousands of pieces.

Why did I have to take the challenge?

I bowed my head. His finger went to my chin when he pulled hard forcing my chin up to meet his eyes, "You know what you are begging for." My eyes darted around avoiding his glare, "Are you sure about that?" He chuckled as his lips went to my ear, "Care for me to find out how wet you are right now?"

I shook my head as I breathed heavily, "No." He chuckled as he lifted then walked away, "Checkmate, Sweetheart. Your turn."

What just happened?

Jace's Point of View

Damn it. I gave myself a hard on from messing with Lexi. I adjusted myself not to look like a creep in the Zoo. I found Leo and Lily over by the elephants as I looked back to see that Lexi is following me slowly. She looked exhausted, right now.

I tilted my head at Leo and Lily, "Is everyone ready to go?" Leo nodded as he stretched, "I think I had enough of memory lane." Leo picked up Lily and walked towards the exit. I let Lexi walk in front of me so I can watch her hips move.

Damn it, she got a nice ass. I kept my hands on the wheel as I drove for three more fucking hours of this trip. Lexi had her head against the window as she fell asleep.

I pulled Lexi's bag into the room next to mine then I went to placed my bag into mine. I opened the door as I notice the terrace's door was open. I walked over as I tilted my head. Lexi looked out to the ocean as I cleared my throat, "Lexi? What are you doing in my room?" She turned to me as her eyes darted around, "I am sorry, Leo told me that I was to be in here."

I rolled my eyes, "He lied."

That fucking prick did this on purpose to get me and Lexi alone.

She nodded as she brushed up against me. I kept my eyes forwards as her hands went to my shirt, "Please forgive me." I chuckled as my fingers went to her arm as I glided down, "What is there to forgive?" I tilted my head as Lexi is trying to reach the top shelf. My eyes travel up her body. God damn that ass. I looked around to see that it is just her and I in the kitchen.

I walked up behind her as I reached over her when my lips went to her ear, "What are you trying to get?" She tilted her head to me, "A glass for the wine. I am in need of some."

I threw my head back and groaned, "Listen, there is reason why I feel the way I do. It nothing personally to you. It just you are in the crossfire." She turned her head, "I heard about your mother. And what other woman did to your father." She looked back at me as she teared up, "My mother wasn't one of those woman. She would never married for money."

I bent my lips inches from hers as I snarled, "Can you be sure about that?" She shook her head as she started to storm off when she grabbed the bottle of wine, "You know what?" She turned to me as she breathed heavily, "You should know that my father was rich. Guess what. She wanted nothing from him when they divorce. Just me and my sister. She didn't want child support and nothing. He happily signed away, so he didn't have to go to jail."

She turned back around as I am confused. Why would he go to jail? I placed my glass down as she took a sip out of the bottle when I walked up to her in the hallway, "Jail? Why would your father go to jail?" She shook her head as tears came down. Fuck.

She threw her arms out as she snarled, "Does it matter? That was five years ago, and he hasn't tried nor we was happy he didn't try to get into contact with us." I took a step closer to her when Lily and Leo ran through the foyer freezing as Lexi shook her head, "Just go away, Jace." She stormed off upstairs.

Leo narrowed his eyes to me as I groaned, "Go ahead. I am an asshole." Lily signed something as I looked up at Leo as he sighed, "She wants to know why Lexi is upset." I closed my eyes as I sighed, "I can't do this." I walked to the kitchen packed a cooler then walked out to the pool.

I sat on a lawn chair as I took a swig of my beer as the sun has set. I have music blasting from my wireless speakers when I looked up to see Lexi standing in front of me. I tilted my head as I sat up straight, "Lexi?" She shook her head as she crossed her arms and turned. She swayed her hips as I sat back in my chair.

Her shirt lifted over her back as my eyes traveled her body as I sipped my beer. She slowly turned as my eyes watched every move she made. She pulled her shirt off then threw it on the ground.
