The weather was gloomy not because it was dark and cold but because of the war, an attack by the enemy. Rain poured down mixing with the blood of the dead and injured, and the sound of the thunder was too hard to ignore.
A lady with a crown on her head, accompanied by a man, could be seen standing far away from the war talking to another woman who looked frightened. "Please Gracia take care of my daughter, love her as you would do yours," she said with tears flowing down her cheeks but was washed away by the rain.
"Fiona, Preston, I promise to take good care of her, I spoke to my husband about it and he accepted. She is going to grow up with love, I promise you." The weather was cold but they didn't feel it, the atmosphere around them didn't permit them to feel the cold and shiver.
"I'll cast a spell on her, this will help her live a life as a human just like you and your family, " Fiona said. Her husband stood there not uttering a word, he just stared at his beautiful daughter who was fast asleep.
Fiona cast a spell on her daughter, sealing her powers and turning her into a human. She opens a portal, giving her daughter one last kiss, and she is sent to the human world with Gracia.
Transparent wings with a touch of purple and orange appeared on their back, they flew back to where the war was happening only to be killed by the enemy.
Three years later
Gracia chopped the tomatoes humming an unfamiliar tune, her dirty blonde hair was tied into a bun. She turned to look at her daughters who were playing but surprisingly she saw only one of them.
"Gaia, where is your sister?" she asked her eight-year-old girl, her green eyes staring back at her mother, her dirty blonde hair was tied into a ponytail. Opening her mouth she explained
"She was just here a few minutes ago, I was busy trying to fix the doll's hair." Her eyes left hers to look around the room but she couldn't see her little sister. "I will look for her mama, I am sure she is outside," Gaia said. Her mom nodded but didn't leave her alone, she followed her outside.
Sitting outside, staring at the moving carriages and the people who were walking around either going home or to work, her brown eyes kept darting from one moving thing to another.
"There you are Aurelia, why did you leave Gaia's side?" Gracia asked, staring at her daughter who smiled instead of answering her question. Her chestnut brown hair was braided on each side of her head, then tied to the back to stop the wind from making it messy.
"Mama I want to sit here." her voice was so small yet beautiful. "Gaia sit with me?" Though she was just three, she could construct her sentences just fine, though at times she missed some words.
"I will stay with her mom," Gaia said. Gracia nodded and went back inside to continue what she was doing in the kitchen.
They all gathered to have their lunch, the head of the house was absent and he had work to do. "Aurelia, come on, pen your mouth," Gracia muttered, instead of doing what her mother said, she opened her mouth and said,
"Mama, can I eat on my own? I am a big girl now." A tired sigh left Gracia's mouth, she let go of the spoon and sat down.
"See, you're making a mess, why did you take the spoon from mother?" Gaia asked, and she took a napkin next to her plate to clean her mouth.
The dining table was big enough to hold eleven people. Two maids stood by the corner with a butler waiting if any of the family members would need assistance.
There was a knock on the door, and the Butler excused himself and went out to take a look at who was outside.
"Good day Lady Selene." Butler bow his head at the young Lady, Selene is the wife of Aaron Payton, she has ink-black hair, and hazel eyes, her cheekbone sharp and refined.
"Is Lady Gracia in?" she asked, her voice holding no respect for the elderly phase but it fazed him, his expression remained the same, emotionless.
"Yes, she is, please come in." Taking off the coat from the lady, he hung it on the stand.
"They are having their lunch, would you like to join them, Lady Selene?" His voice was polite.
"No, I don't want to." her hazel eyes look around the house like she has never been here before but in truth she has.
"Please follow me to the drawing room." Selene followed him though she knew her way around, her shoes clicking on the floor.
After lunch, Gracia and her daughters went to the drawing room to meet their guest who had been patiently waiting for them.
"Good day Lady Gracia" Selene bowed her head but not deeply, and the lady returned the greeting.
"Please have a seat, Lady Selene." She looks around, spotting a maid who has her head down staring at the wooden floor.
"Emily brought tea and biscuits for our guests." The maid left "How is your home Lady Selene? and your husband?" Gracia inquire
"Everything is OK, Lady Gracia. And you? I see the house is OK, your daughters are doing good too." She passed a glance at the two girls who sat quietly listening to them.
"Yes, they are fine. So what brings you here Lady Selene?" she asked the young girl who looks like she is in her mid-twenties.
"I came here to invite you personally, I am hosting a soiree in my manor." She took out the invitation card and gave it to her.
"Thank you lady Selene, I will be there." After talking about other things, Selene left.
"Mama, will Aurelia and I go with you?" Gaia asked, looking at her mother, her green eyes held hope in them.
"I will let you go with me if you promise to be good and look after your sister." she nodded her head and smiled at her mother.Next chapterNext chapterBack to top
On the day of the soiree, Gracia as promised took her two daughters with her to attend it. Sitting in the carriage with her daughters and husband, heading there.
Little Aurelia places her hands on the window sill, her little hand carries the weight of her head. She watches the objects outside the carriage pass like magic.
"Aurelia dear," her mother called "leave the window, tsk look at your hair" Emily who has been called to accompany them so will keep an eye on the kids, especially Aurelia as she has the habit of wandering off, took hold of the little girl's hand.
She made her hair proper, getting rid of the errant hairs on her head. "Thank you." Emily smiled at her. Little Gaia just sat there watching without uttering a word.
When they got there, the coachman stepped down and opened the door for the family members. Senior Clifton was the first person to step down, he stretched his hand for his wife to take which she did, before taking his children's.
They could see other carriages which had arrived before them. The Payton's manor is grand, the building was painted white with no spec of dust or mud on it, like the rain which has been falling all this while in the city of Svarga hasn't touched it.
They head inside, and Gaia takes hold of her little sister's hand. Selene welcomed them when they stepped inside the manor.
"Lady Gracia you here, welcome, Senior Clifton I am happy you could make it." she bowed her head "hello girls." she smiled at the kids.
The Butler of the manor took their coat before directing them inside.
"Lady Gracia, it has been a while, how are you?" a woman asked, she has brown eyes, and her red hair was tied behind, supported by pins. She hugs Gracia, dropping a kiss on both sides of her cheek.
"Lady Anastasia it truly has been a while, I am good, and you?" Garcia smiled at Anastasia.
"I am fine. Senior Clifton" she bowed her head, and Clifton did the same. Gracia took her daughters to introduce them to the masses.
Gaia was distracted by the things happening in the soiree that she didn't notice when Aurelia had left her side, Emily was on an errand.
After the long and boring introduction, little Aurelia who doesn't like to be in the company of many people decided to stroll in the manor. Her little feet pitter-patter on the floor, she finally found something worth looking at, Payton's library.
Her little hand traced the huge book rack, she had a gentle smile on her little face. Picking a book, she sat on the cold wooden floor, her legs spread out.
She sat there, all by herself. Her legs wiggled from side to side. Little Aurelia, who was too engrossed in what she was reading, didn't notice the person standing behind her.
"What are you doing here?" her head whipped to where the voice came from, her brown eyes staring at the owner of the voice, it was a boy who looks like he is fourteen years old. His ink-black hair was tied to the back and his blue eyes stared at her with curiosity in them, the expression on his face was cold, too cold for a fourteen-year-old.
"I'm reading a book" came her obvious reply.
"I can see that, why are you here when everyone else is downstairs?" He walks to where she is sitting, taking a peek at the book in between the girl's legs. His eyes narrowed, and his mouth pulled up.
"And here I was going to congratulate you for knowing how to read at such a young age, looking at you I can tell you are three years old." The book Aurelia was busy reading was a picture book, a book with no words in them.
"I don't know how to read but my sister Gaia does, her governess taught her, mama said I will get a governess when I am older," she explained.
"What is your name?" he implores
"Aurelia, yours?" her brown eyes look at him with fascination.
"How old are you?" he asked just to be sure that she is three years old as he predicted.
"I am three but I'll be turning four soon." the boy's mouth twitched in wonderment.
"For three years old you sure do talk a lot, and your sentences are well constructed, that's nice." He crouches down to level their heights.
"What are you reading?" Aurelia noticed that he didn't tell her his name.
"I don't know, I'm just looking at the pictures, there are no words in them." the boy chuckled.
"Should I read you a book?" he asked, something he has never done before. Aurelia nods her head with a gentle smile on her lips.
The boy stood up from his crouching position and waltzed to the rack of books, his hand tracing the books, he finally stopped when he saw what was looking for.
He took a seat but not on the floor like Aurelia. "Are you just going to sit down there? come." he carried her and placed her in his lab before opening the book to read to her.
Downstairs, Lady Gracia who thought her daughters were playing with the other kids turns to look at them but strangely her youngest daughter is not there. Excusing herself, she went to meet her eldest daughter.
"Gaia, where is Aurelia?" Gracia asks her eldest daughter who was surprised to see that her little sister is not next to her as expected.
"She was just here, I thought she was sitting next to me." Emily who just finished the errand came back to learn that little Aurelia is nowhere to be found.
"Mom I know where she might be," she turned to look at Selene who was already staring at her.
Walking to the lady she asked, "Aunty do you have a library?" Selene gave a nod,
"Follow me." Gaia, Emily, Gracia, and Clifton follow the Lady to her library, when they got there, they were shocked to see a sleeping Aurelia cuddling in a boy's arms, and the boy was none other than.....
The door opened and closed, and a woman dressed in fine clothing walked in, her ink-black hair was tied into a bun, supported by pins, and her black eyes scanned the room and settled on the boy who was carrying a sleeping girl in his hands.
"Leander!" her voice boomed with worry, everyone in the room immediately bowed their head when they saw her.
"Greetings Queen Athena" They chorused. She waved her hand, her black eyes staring at her son who stared right back at her with the same vigor.
"I was looking for you, what are you doing here and who is she?" Despite the noise, little Aurelia didn't wake up.
"I was just here, mother, and as for the girl, she is just someone I met here. she was all on her own looking at the pictures in a book so I decided to read a story, but she fell asleep before I could finish," he explained.
"Hmm, I was worried." her face softened, a gentle smile marrying her beautiful face.
"You worry too much mother, I am no more a child for you to be worried about. Where is Atlas? why isn't he with you?" as if on cue, a boy with olive-green eyes walked in, his blonde hair was combed to the back, and he looked no less than twelve years old.
Gracia stepped forward, going toward her daughter who was snuggling in the prince's arm. "Sorry for the inconvenience caused by my daughter, I will take her." the moment her hands touched Aurelia, she woke up.
"Mama," she said but didn't make an effort to leave Leander's side, turning to Leander she said, "Thank you, though I didn't get the chance to hear every part of the story." the prince just stared at the little girl.
"Why did you leave the soiree?" Gracia asked Leander, her eyebrows raised questionably.
"I was feeling bored so I came here, I didn't want to be a bother. Gai looked like she was having fun.." she trailed.
"Hmm" Gracia hummed, apologizing one more time to the Queen and Prince, they left Payton's manor.
Leander Windsor, the prince of Svarga, a mystery that no one knows about except the members of the royal family. His blue eyes follow the girl who was with her mother. He couldn't get his eyes off of her, it was like there was a magnetic field drawing him to her. A genuine smile crept onto his face, something which has not happened since he was born.
When everyone left the room, Queen Athena looked at her son with narrowed eyes "what was that all about? Are you reading a book to a child? since when?" the smile on his face faltered, and his blue eyes turned to his mother.
"What can I say? people change." was all he said. "Atlas, how did you enjoy the soiree?" he asked his little brother who was standing quietly.
"It was nice but not that fun because you left me though I had someone to play with." Leander cock his head to the side, his blue eyes brightening up with mischief.
"And who was that if I may ask?" even though he knew who Atlas was playing with, he decided to act ignorant.
"Gaia, the girl with the blonde hair. I think she is the sister of the girl you were carrying just now." Atlas explained.
"was she now?" he smiled, turning to his mother he said, "let's go, mother, unless you have something else to do here." Queen Athena bit Peyton goodbye and they left.
The gold carriage which could be seen only in the royal family sped through the road, soft cushions were placed on the seats, and curtains hung on the window.
The Coachman pulls the reins of the horse to stop it from walking once they pass through the gigantic black gate of the castle. The Castle emanated a dark aura, the walls were painted dark, and not even a speck of dust could be seen on the walls of the castle, with white pillars having feathered creatures on them standing on each side. The only odd thing which could be seen as the creepers on the walls of the castle, but the creepers only helped to beautify the castle.
The coachman opened the door of the carriage for the, he stretched out his hand for the Queen to take which she did before stepping down from the carriage. Leander was the next person to step down than Atlas.
Leander walked through the corridors, servants bowed their heads the moment they saw him coming. Ignoring them, he walks to his room.
His room was huge, with torches burning on each side of the walls, and a golden chandelier hung on the ceiling. The ceiling was tall, way too tall. The carpet on the floor felt soft under one's feet, the bed was huge, fit for a king.
Leander took off his boots, he flicked his fingers. A black bird that had perched itself on a branch of a tree flew into the room. It stood on the floor in front of the prince, it metamorphosed itself into a boy. His blonde hair was tied into a pigtail, his black eyes looked shallow, and his face was pale like a corpse.
"Master" he bows his head as a sign of respect to his master. Leander hum.
"I have a job for you, I want you to keep an eye on someone. She is three years old, and her name is Aurelia Clifton, watch over her and report to me. I don't know how you will do it to get into their house and live there." thinking of something, he chuckled.
"She looks like a compassionate little lamb. If you want to stay by her side, I'll advise you to injure yourself and let her see you. That will be all Apollo, off you go." the boy bowed his head once more before turning into a bird and flying away
