Chapter 1 BITTER BETRAYAL

LYRA'S POV: I was feeling much better in the morning; my splitting headaches were all gone as I prepared to surprise my mate, Kalen. The pregnancy mood swings had really engulfed me lately. Kalen has been working on a project recently, so I wanted to surprise him with an Audi, since he always wants one, especially when I will have my pup. I came to his workspace, but I was told he went out. "Well, we saw him at the next apartment," one pack member said as I was directed to the apartment. The werewolf receptionist said a couple rented the room, and I was determined to know who those couples were. I walked through the hallway, with Kalen's gift in my hands. I placed my ear on the door as I heard moans and sounds of pleasure. I couldn't believe it. "Maybe it's just any random couple," I said, trying to keep my heart from excessive pounding. I dialed Kalen's number as I heard a phone ringing from the room. "Who's that?" A familiar female voice said. "Oh, it's her," another family voice said. I thought of opening the door, but I wasn't still sure it was Kalen. "C'mon, Kalen, faster!" A voice said. Coincidentally, my mate's name is Kalen also. My splitting headaches were coming, and the pack doctor advised me not to stress myself. I was trying my best to remain calm, but my pregnancy wasn't helping right now. "When are you going to reject her, Kalen?" The same familiar voice said as I listened for more. Looks like they were satisfied with what they were doing. "After she gives birth, I will reject her and keep my pup," a reply came as I couldn't take it anymore, and I barged into the room. Truly, it was Kalen and a female omega from the pack

I threw the Audi on the floor, my eyes blazing with a mix of anger and hurt. "You... you monster!" I spat, my voice trembling with rage. "How could you do this to me? To us?" I demanded, my hand instinctively crading my belly.

Kalen snorted, rolling his eyes. "Oh, please, Lyra. Don't make this about you. You're just mad because you're past your prime and you're about to be replaced," he sneered, his words dripping with venom. "Face it, Lyra, you're just a breeding machine. That's all you were ever good for."

The female omega gasped, but Kalen just shrugged. "What? It's true. You're just a means to an end, Lyra. And soon, you'll be nothing more than a distant memory."

I was in pain; my beloved mate was cheating on me all this time! "Whenever I wanted to have sex, you weren't always in the mood. It was just constant pains you were feeling, and I'm a male; I need a female once in a while," he defended himself.

I couldn't say a word to the mistress; I stormed out of the room with my tear-filled eyes. I felt like throwing up, but I guessed it was just me being nauseous. I sat down by the pavement, my eyes red, my heart shattered, and my splitting headaches aching. He truly didn't care about me or his pup; I rubbed my belly as I felt my tummy moving. At least I lost my mate, but I still have my joy...

Chapter 2 BENEATH THE BROKEN BOND.

LYRA'S POV:

I stood up, my eyes dry, my heart heavy, and my mind made up. I'm leaving, I thought to myself. I'm leaving this toxic pack and the mate who betrayed me. I rubbed my belly, feeling a surge of determination. I won't let Kalen's actions define me or my pup's future.

I stormed back into the apartment, my eyes blazing with a mix of anger and sadness. Kalen was still sitting on the couch, his shirt off, looking smug and self-assured.

"You're leaving, aren't you?" he said, his voice dripping with disdain. "You're finally realizing you're not good enough for me."

I laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "Oh, Kalen, you're delusional. I'm leaving, all right. But it's not because I'm not good enough for you. It's because I'm too good for you. I'm taking my pup, and I'm getting out of this toxic pack."

Kalen's expression darkened, his eyes flashing with anger. "You can't leave, Lyra. You're my mate."

I shook my head, a sense of pity washing over me. "I'm not your mate, Kalen. I'm your property, your breeding machine. But I'm done being treated like that. I'm done being treated like I'm nothing."

I paused, my voice dropping to a whisper. "You may have taken my heart, Kalen, but you'll never have my soul."

Kalen's face twisted in rage, but I didn't flinch. I stood tall, my chin held high, as I turned and walked away. The door creaked behind me, and I felt a sense of freedom wash over me.

I walked out into the night, the stars twinkling above me like diamonds. The cool night air hit me like a slap in the face, and I felt alive. I felt free. I rubbed my belly, feeling my pup move inside me. We were going to make it, together.

As I disappeared into the darkness, I heard Kalen's voice behind me, shouting my name. But I didn't look back. I kept walking, my heart heavy, but my spirit unbroken.

Chapter 3 HOME

I ran, as fast as I could, away from the pack, away from the pain. I didn't stop until I was deep in the forest, the trees towering above me like sentinels.

I collapsed on the ground, my back against a tree trunk, and let the tears flow. I was alone, completely.

I walked for hours, my feet aching and my belly heavy. I was starting to lose hope, when I saw a small, rustic cabin in the distance. Smoke was drifting from the chimney, and the smell of food wafted through the air, making my stomach growl.

I approached the cabin, feeling a sense of trepidation. Who lived here? Were they friendly?

Just as I was about to knock, the door swung open, and a kind-faced old werewolf stood before me. His eyes, a deep shade of amber, sparkled with recognition, and he smiled, " Lyra.I've been expecting you."

I was taken aback, my eyes widening in surprise. "How... how do you know me?" I stammered.

Alpha Elijah's expression was warm, and he ushered me inside. "I've known you since you were a pup, Lyra. Your father's pack and mine hav a long history.

I was given a delicious meal. As I ate, I felt a strange tingling sensation in my fingers. I looked down, and to my surprise, the scratches on my hands were healing at an incredible rate.

Alpha Elijah noticed my amazement and smiled. "you're a healer, Lyra. A rare gift."

I was surprised." I have a gift?" I couldn't believe my eyes, all my wounds were stitching back up "how do you know me?" I stammered.

Alpha Elijah's expression was warm, and he ushered me inside. "I've known you since you were a pup, Lyra. Your father's pack and mine have a long history."

I stepped inside, my eyes adjusting to the dim light. The cabin was cozy, with a fire crackling in the fireplace and a delicious aroma wafting from the kitchen.

"Please, sit down," Alpha Elijah said, gesturing to a comfortable-looking chair. "You look like you need a rest."

I sank into the chair, feeling a wave of exhaustion wash over me. Alpha Elijah busied himself making tea, and I couldn't help but watch him. He moved with a quiet confidence, and I felt a sense of peace settle over me.

As he handed me a steaming cup, our fingers touched, and I felt a spark of energy run through me. I looked up, startled, and met Alpha Elijah's eyes. He smiled, his eyes cr crkling at the corners.

"You have a gift, Lyra," he said, his voice low. "A gift that will serve you well in the days to come."

I took a sip of the tea, feeling the warmth spread through my body. It was delicious, with a hint of honey and something else, something that seemed to calm my racing thoughts.

As I sipped, Alpha Elijah told me stories about my father, about his adventures and his loves. I listened, mesmerized, feeling a sense of connection to this stranger that I couldn't explain.

As the night wore on, I began to feel a sense of belonging, like I was exactly where I was meant to be. Alpha Elijah's warmth and kindness were like a balm to my soul, and I felt my heart begin to heal.

But little did I know, Alpha Elijah's kindness was just a ruse, a mask to hide his true intentions..
