How can you choose to marry me?" Johnson looked at her fondly and said, "because I am the child's father"."

Chapter 1 Mr. Roberts's Son Is Missing!

"How dare she come back?"

"Only a shameless woman would seduce a man for money!"

"She even gave birth to a child after that! Alas, what a scum in the Smith's!"

Hearing the gossips around her, Shirley Smith stepped into the yard calmly.

Her deceased father's belongings were here – the only reason for her to return to this once-called-home place.

The house was very lively tonight.

A long red carpet spread from the villa door to the gate, just like that for superstars. Men in suit and women in dress, the people inside were all holding goblets in their hands.

"Shirley?"

Evelyn Smith walked fast over, her delicate makeup failing to cover her anger. "Why are you here? Today is grandpa's 80th birthday! Many big shots are here tonight! Get out of here now!"

Shirley looked at her second eldest sister with coldness in her starry eyes. Humph, she didn't remember the birthday at all.

She said indifferently, "I'm back to take my dad's belongings and will soon leave. I have no interest in your family affairs."

"Shirley Smith, how dare you talk to me like this?" Evelyn stamped her foot in anger.

Shirley had changed a lot in a few years and was not easily bullied anymore.

"You're getting far too cheeky!"

An old man's voice came from behind Shirley.

She sighed. Well, another troublemaker...

She regretted not checking whether it was a good day to come here. Why did everything go wrong on the first day she was back from abroad?

She turned around...

Slap!

The old man's palm struck her face fair and square!

The next second, her head tilted to a side and her fair skin went red. Covering her face, she stared at the rude man.

She had been so blind to take him as her respectable grandfather. When the family had once got into trouble, he had chosen to protect Berry, her eldest sister, while giving her out for benefits without mercy!

"Are you glaring at me?" With his beady eyes ablaze with anger, Old Mr. Smith said furiously, "I'm merciful enough to pass over your behavior that ruined our family's reputation! How dare you enter the house without my permission?"

Shirley laughed because this was the funniest joke she had ever heard. "I ruined the family's reputation?"

But deep inside, her heart was bleeding.

The injury from the closest people was always the deepest!

It was they who forced her into that man's room to gain benefits. But when the thing was exposed to the public, these wicked people unfairly blamed her for seducing a man for money!

How wronged she felt! She never asked for fortune and she didn't know who had almost tortured her to death on those nights!

"Madam, Sir, Mr. Roberts's son is missing!" A servant's words soon made the two pale with fear.

Evelyn trembled uncontrollably, muttering, "Oh my god, Mr. Roberts's son suffers from type 1 diabetes. If he has an accident here..."

She didn't dare to think further.

Anyone who offended Mr. Roberts and especially his son would be inescapably and seriously punished.

Type 1 diabetes?

What a coincidence! Shirley was surprised because her daughter had the same illness!

She knew what the disease was like and couldn't sit by. Therefore, she also joined the search.

While the others scattered to find the boy, she went in a direction they ignored.

Chapter 2 Golden Retriever

The villa was spacious with a front yard and a back yard where Shirley went.

Type 1 diabetes was not a serious disease. Just like her daughter Alice, a patient who only needed to supplement insulin that he or she lacked every day.

But there were also many things to notice to protect a child with this disease.

If a healthy child suddenly disappeared at home, he or she might be playing hide-and-seek. But if the child was sick, he or she might faint unexpectedly.

Alice had once fainted at home. By then, Shirley thought Alice was just playing somewhere and didn't pay much attention to it, thinking that Alice would show up after a while. But when she found Alice lying on the ground unconscious, she felt more than regretful and guilty!

From then on, every time she heard that a child was missing, she would try her best to help look for the child.

Although most children just hid out of fun, Shirley felt happy and relieved to know that they were healthy and safe.

Unlike the front yard, the back yard was very quiet and dark with few lights. The deeper Shirley went in, the gloomier it became, which made her somewhat scared.

It seemed unlikely for a child to come to such a place.

When she was hesitating over whether to go back, her pants were dragged by something. She looked down and found it was a Golden Retriever.

The dog was very clever. Knowing that Shirley would follow it, it loosened its bite, turned around, and ran to somewhere.

Shirley followed it instinctively.

Passing two flowerbeds, she saw a little boy in a while suit lying still next to a doghouse.

!!!

Shocked, Shirley trotted over and carried him in her arms.

She felt that he was very light and might be malnourished. Judging by his height, he was about four or five years old, just like Alice.

But it was so dark here that she couldn't tell whether there was an onset of the disease. She must go somewhere bright right away.

"Thank you," she lowered her head and said before she left.

"Woof woof!"

In the living room of the house.

At this moment, the building was just like a thousand-year ice cellar with the overwhelming coldness produced by a single man.

"Mr. Roberts, I'm sure your son will be fine. He may be playing hide-and-seek with us. All the servants are looking for him and will soon find him." Old Mr. Smith squeezed out an embarrassed smile.

"Yes," Evelyn also tried hard to comfort. "It's children's nature to play. Don't worry."

Secretly, she raised her eyelids and had an affectionate peep at the man's face.

The man looked very handsome and as aloof as an emperor with absolute authority.

Evelyn blushed at his charm.

Johnson Roberts, who had been silent, spoke, "Dog."

Dog?

What did he mean?

The Smiths looked at each other in confusion.

Johnson's assistant Flynn Harris explained, "Mr. Roberts wants to know if you have any dog."

Evelyn replied, "Yes, we have a Golden Retriever..."

Johnson seemed to have known where his son Tom was and asked fiercely, "Where is it?"

Scared by his fury, Evelyn stammered, "I-it's in the back yard. I can show you the way..."

But just then, Shirley hurried in with a boy in her arms. The boy was wearing an expensive white suit...

It was Mr. Roberts's son!

Evelyn was furious. Why could this woman find the boy before so many servants?

Chapter 3 Nightmare

After entering the living room, Shirley placed the boy on the carpet and knelt to examine him.

She was surprised that the boy was even more handsome than most child stars. It must be a heritage from his parents who might be very gorgeous, too.

"Shirley, how dare you put Mr. Roberts's son on the ground?" Evelyn shrieked as she pointed at Shirley.

Shirley ignored the scream and focused attention on the boy whose face and neck were red in patches. She was too familiar with such a symptom. Without looking up, she asked, "Are the boy's parents here? Does he have an allergy?"

Johnson walked up to her.

When this woman rushed in, his heart missed a beat. He had never seen her before, but she reminded him of the woman who he had been entangled with on nights several years ago.

His eyelids drooped. When Flynn wanted to speak for him, he raised a hand and replied in person, "He's allergic to dog hair."

The voice sounded very familiar to Shirley.

She lifted her head in confusion and was then stunned by what she saw.

The man's appearance and temperament came as an amazement to her.

Since she was kneeling, his tall figure appeared much imposing to her. Under the bright light, he was just like a gorgeous god in Greek mythology.

But what shocked her even more was that...

This boy was also allergic to dog hair like Alice!

And she, too! The doctor said it was hereditary. What an unbelievable coincidence!

But she resumed her calmness immediately and drew her attention back to the boy. "Good to know that. I thought it was type 1 diabetes."

Johnson couldn't help having a look at her.

Oh?

She knew not only allergy but also type 1 diabetes?

He began observing this woman.

Her face was small with delicate features, though the red mark on it seemed more eye-catching. Her hair was casually tied up and her curvaceous figure was shown through a simple T-shirt and pants. In general, she was an attractive lady.

Evelyn was driven crazy.

Johnson was gazing at Shirley regardless of his son or what was applied on his son's face. That irritated Evelyn very much.

She said instantly, "I'll call a professional doctor over now." Then, she turned to Shirley and threatened maliciously, "Shirley, put away your thing right away! If the boy has an accident, you must be responsible for it!"

But it was embarrassing that nobody paid any attention to her.

Even Johnson had no intention to stop Shirley. He seemed to trust her very much, letting her cure his son without worry. Only an idiot would interrupt her at this moment.

The other Smiths exchanged a look at each other. Although they were reluctant to let Shirley steal their thunder, they could do nothing about it.

With patience, Shirley applied the medicine on the boy's face and neck again and again until the redness disappeared. Only then did she sigh with relief. "He's fine now. But you'd better help him take a bath as fast as possible. If he relapses, apply this on his face and neck."

Shirley handed out the medicine, but the man remained unmoved. Since the man was too tall, she didn't bother to look up at him and stuffed the medicine bottle into his hand directly.

Hot.

This was what she felt when she touched his hand.

It was as scalding as the body that had tortured her for nights several years ago.

She shook her head slightly. It had been a long time since then. Why was she still caught by that nightmare?
