Prologue
Glory always thought being a part of a pack meant she was part of a family. Man, how wrong she was. Once her father passed away, she was moved into the pack house. Her father and the new alpha's father had once been friends so he promised her father on his death bed he would take in his daughter. Glory hoped Lincoln was a good man like his father had been. Sadly, he was nothing like his father.
Lincoln was cruel, and treated Glory like she was his servant. She cooked and cleaned for everyone in the pack house. She slept in the basement away from everyone on an old mattress while everyone else had new furniture and an amazing bedroom. She cooked these huge meals yet was only given scraps to eat. She was treated like a dog, and soon began to hate the pack.
She wanted to escape, but knew it wasn't possible. The one time she had tried Lincoln found her and beat her almost to death. He wouldn't allow her to shift either. She had the scars all over her body as a reminder of that night. He had total control over her. The only way she would be free of him is if one of them was dead. Sadly, she knew it would most likely be here that died.
She never thought this was what her life would become. She once had so many dreams. Now she is plagued by her never-ending nightmare. She wonders if she should just end it all. It would be better than living the life she was being forced to live.
Glory was ready to just give up. To end everything when she was told to prepare a feast. A new alpha was coming to visit the pack. He was the son of Lincoln's father's former beta. He wanted to challenge Lincoln for the pack. He was tired of watching Lincoln destroy the pack his father once called family. He wanted to end Lincoln.
Could this be the change Glory needed? Would the new alpha be kind, and caring? Could he really stop Lincoln? Glory's mind was running non-stop with the what ifs. If Lincoln won, he would be unstoppable. No one would dare challenge him again. This was her last hope. Her last chance to possibly be free.
Drew knew something needed to be done. He heard that Lincoln was coming for his pack. He hated him ever since he kicked his father out of his former pack. Drew bought land and started his own pack and swore one day he would get revenge. His father died shortly after being tossed out, and he has hated Lincoln feeling he caused his father's death.
He didn't wait for Lincoln to come to him. He sent word he was on his way to challenge the alpha. He would do everything in his power to win. He heard how Lincoln was, and knew he needed to be stopped. He would win and take over Lincoln's pack. He just hoped there was still some good in his former pack.
He was doing this for his father. So, he could get the closure he knew he needed to move on. Once Drew knocked Lincoln off his thrown, he could focus on other things. Like finding a mate, and finally starting a family. He knew he couldn't have any of that until Lincoln was out of the way for good.
Chapter 1
Glory's pov
Past
I loved going on what my father would call adventures. Spending the day out in the woods with just him and I. Since my mother died, I valued times like these even more. He was the beta of our pick, so we didn't get to do this often. I knew the pack came first. It didn't bother me because I loved my pack. Our alpha was kind and generous.
I hoped to one day help my pack like my father was. When our alphas son Lincoln took over the pack, I'd love to be his beta. I didn't really hang out with Lincoln. He was away training to become the next alpha. So, I didn't know too much about him. Some of the girls said he was dreamy. Whatever that meant.
I just hoped he was half as good at being an alpha as his father was. We were deep in the forest when we heard alarms going off. I looked at my dad knowing this couldn't be good. He told me to run home and stay there until he came for me. He ran off to see what was going on.
This would be the day that changed everything. The day that our alpha was killed. The day his son Lincoln would take over our pack. For days later everything was hectic. I barely saw my father. He was always at the pack house. We had our own house close to the pack house. Yet far enough away to have some privacy.
I was worried when night came, and my father didn't return. He never left me alone overnight. I knew this must be bad for him to not come back. I wondered if I should go closer to the pack house to see what was going on. I wanted to make sure my father was okay. I was starting to really panic. I made up my mind to see what was wrong when my father came in the door. He looked worn down.
"Father I was worried is everything okay?"
"The alpha has been killed and his son Lincoln has taken over. I am no longer needed as his Beta."
That could not be true. My father has been the Beta of this pack longer than I have been alive. This has to be a mistake. I thought Lincoln was away. It's weird how he comes back on the very night his father was killed. Now he fires his father's best friend and beta. That doesn't make any sense. My father was very loyal to the pack. I wondered what this meant for us as well as the pack. For the first time in my life, I was scared.
"Father what does this mean?"
"I don't know Glory things are about to change around here, and I don't think it'll all be good."
I could see the worry in my father's eyes. Was Lincoln ready to be alpha? Could he handle this pack? He was so young. Only a year or so older then I was, and I was only 16. I doubt a child could lead a pack. Especially if he fired the best beta he would ever find. For the first time ever, I doubted my alpha and my pack. I just had a bad feeling about all of this.
Chapter 2
Glory's pov
*Present*
I made Lincoln mad by not obeying him, so he locked me up like some caged animal. He had his buddies beat me. By not letting me shift he was prolonging my pain. He was a monster. He knew no one here would come to help me now that my father was gone, he could do anything to me he wanted. He owned me. I wish he would just kill me.
He was only giving me stale bread to it and dirty water. How could an alpha of a pack treat one of his members like this? A pack was supposed to be your family. This was no family. I missed my dad so much. One day I was going to make Lincoln pay for everything he has done. That was the only thing keeping me going.
I heard someone coming down, so I hurried and sit down. I didn't know if it was time for another beating or not. I didn't trust anyone in this pack. It was clear that no one would help me. They were all either loyal to Lincoln or too afraid of him to do anything.
"Hey Glory, I was told to release you and have you get yourself cleaned up. We are hosting an alpha from another pack and his beta. So, you need to look like a part of this pack. Lincoln is going to have you cooking a feast for him."
"Um why is another alpha coming here Lydia?" I asked knowing she was someone I could get honest answers from. She was the closest thing I did have to a friend.
"I guess this alpha is going to try and fight Lincoln for the pack. We need to hurry before Lincoln gets mad. He is not in a good mood so please Glory don't test him today. I fear what he would do."
I didn't say anything I just hurried and followed behind her. All I could think about was someone was finally going to challenge Lincoln. I wondered what this other alpha was like. He couldn't be any worse than Lincoln. This may just be my chance for freedom. Lincoln had to lose. He needed to die.
I got cleaned up and put the outfit on that I was being forced to wear. Then I went into the kitchen to get started. Lincoln came in and told everyone but me to get out. I wondered what he was going to do to me now. He had this evil look in his eyes. I just had to remind myself that soon someone was going to finally end him.
"Glory you are not supposed to be in here cooking."
"Oh, sorry Lincoln I thought this was where you wanted me."
"No, you are going to play nice with this new alpha. I want him distracted for this upcoming battle."
"I don't understand Alpha what is it exactly that you are asking me to do?"
He came over and pulled me into him by grabbing my a$$. I almost flinched at his touch but didn't. If I did, I knew I would be in for another beating. I hated having his hands on me. I wish I could kill him myself, but I knew that I wasn't strong enough.
"I want you to use all of this to seduce the alpha."
"What if he has a mate?" I asked.
"He doesn't but it looking to find one. Don't worry pet I will never let you go. He will be dying soon any way. I just need you to distract him."
"Okay alpha anything for you."
I hated saying that, but I was just keeping the peace for now. I was not going to seduce this new alpha, but I was going to help him. Lincoln brought his mouth down on mine, and I almost got sick. He grinded into me so I could feel how turned on he was. I hated this vile man.
"If you're a good girl I just might make you my new toy. If you would stop fighting me, I would think about making you my mate."
"I will try harder alpha."
"You do that. You help me win this challenge and good things will happen for you. Now go up to the room I had made up for you and wait until I call for you. He will be here soon so dress sexy."
"Yes alpha."
I hurried away from him and ran up to the room before he decided he wanted more from me. There was no way in hell I would ever be his toy let alone his mate. I would rather die first. No, this other alpha was my only hope he had to win.
