Chapter 1
Kyra had been trying to conceive for two years after her marriage, but without success. The doctor advised her to improve her nutrition and eat "meat" to aid in conceiving. She began secretly consuming various meats every day.
When she was six months pregnant, a detailed ultrasound revealed that the baby had a cleft lip and heart issues. I suggested not keeping the baby. When the baby was born with deformities, the whole family expected me to be the fall guy, responsible for the family's problems.
**Chapter 1**
"Mom, it's either her or me in this house. I can't live here if she stays!" Kyra screamed from the kitchen door, clutching a knife threateningly.
I took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "The baby has serious heart and brain issues, Kyra. If it's born, it might either die or be severely brain-damaged!"
Without warning, Kyra threw the knife at me. Luckily, my dad pulled me aside just in time, and it embedded in the wall.
"She just doesn't want me to have this baby because she's afraid it will take your love and attention away!" Kyra cried hysterically.
"Jordyn, you're thirty and don't plan on getting married. Why can't you just be happy for me? I tried for two years to have this baby. He'll at least call you Aunt Jordyn. Why can't you wish him well?"
"I'm trying to look out for you. I'm giving you a kind reminder!" I tried to reason with her.
"Bullshit! You just want the house all to yourself!"
Kyra pointed at Andrew. "Andrew, this baby is yours. If you don't make her leave today, I'll get rid of the baby tomorrow!"
**Chapter 2**
I looked at my brother, hardly believing my ears. Andrew and I had always been close growing up, living in the most luxurious homes together. Before he got married, we were the best of friends.
"Brother..." I pleaded.
"Jordyn, stop provoking Kyra. Just move out!" Andrew snapped, avoiding my gaze.
"Mom, pinch me. Did my brother just tell me to move out?" I asked, turning to my mother.
"Pack your things and move out," my mom said, weariness etched on her face. It felt as if I was the one causing all the chaos.
I turned to my dad, hoping for some support, but he frowned. "Jordyn, you're thirty years old. People gossip because you're still living at home."
Their words hit me like a bucket of cold water. Just last night, I had bought my mom a gold bracelet, my dad a new phone, my brother the game console he had wanted, and Kyra that LV bag she'd been eyeing.
As I left without breakfast this morning, my mom had chased me downstairs with some food. Was everything I had seen just an illusion?
Kyra smirked. "Jordyn, Mom and Dad, and Andrew have long wanted you to move out!"
I glanced back at my parents. My mom gritted her teeth. "Jordyn, Kyra isn't wrong. With you here, this house is in constant turmoil!"
"Can't you be more sensible and stop causing trouble?"
A cold shiver ran down my spine. It felt like being left out in the cold.
Andrew, whether out of guilt or embarrassment, couldn't even look me in the eye.
I gave them a cold glance. "Fine, if this house can't accommodate me, then I'll leave!"
**Chapter 3**
I went to my room and started packing my most valuable belongings.
Kyra watched as I filled three suitcases, her panic evident.
"Jordyn, those things were bought with family money. What will I use if you take them?"
"How is that my problem?" I retorted.
I used to treat her as my sister-in-law. Whenever she liked something of mine, I would give it to her. Who knew she was just an ingrate?
Kyra started arguing with Andrew. He awkwardly asked, "Jordyn, Kyra is pregnant. She can't be stressed!"
"How is her stress my concern? Did I make her pregnant?"
"She keeps saying I'm after the family property. You all heard her. Now she wants to take the things I bought with my own money. Are you all blind?"
I grabbed the game console on the coffee table and the LV bag hanging by the door.
"Jordyn, that's my bag! Put it down!" Kyra yelled, holding her belly, and nudged Andrew towards me.
Andrew looked displeased. "Does it have your name on it? Do you have the receipt?"
"For your sake, I might end up harming you. Don't blame me if your baby has problems because I bought you a fake bag!"
Andrew, scared by my fierce look, watched me leave.
I waited at the building entrance for several minutes, hoping my parents would come after me. After more than an hour, it started raining, but no one came to check on me.
From upstairs, I could hear Kyra's intermittent crying and shouting.
I had never felt so disappointed in my family before. I moved all my things to the small apartment I had quietly bought for myself.
By the time I finished unpacking, it was already midnight. I didn't have to work the next day, so I slept in.
When I woke up, I had dozens of missed calls on my phone.
Chapter 2
[1]
My mom questioned why I had taken the car, preventing Kyra from visiting her parents. She started another commotion.
My dad gave me an ultimatum: return the car within half an hour, or he would disown me, and everything in the family would no longer concern me.
My brother pleaded with me, asking if I could give Kyra a break for his sake and stop causing trouble. He wanted Kyra to have a peaceful pregnancy and safely deliver the baby. He even mentioned that he knew I didn't want to get married but wanted a child to look after me in my old age. If I went along with Kyra's wishes, they would let me raise the child.
I laughed in anger.
I treated him as my brother, but he saw me as a fall guy.
I ignored them, washed up, and prepared to eat when I received a call from a colleague.
The colleague informed me that Kyra's last prenatal screening showed high risk, and it was almost certain that the baby would have problems.
I told my colleague to call my brother directly.
Less than ten minutes later, I received another call from the colleague.
The colleague asked if my family favored boys over girls or if I had a bad relationship with them. My brother's first reaction upon hearing about the baby's issues was to question how much I had bribed the doctors to reject the child.
I treated my colleague to dinner over the weekend to apologize.
At 10:30 PM, we unexpectedly ran into Kyra at a barbecue stall, where she should have been at home.
Kyra had heavy smoky makeup on, holding a skewer in one hand and a beer bottle in the other.
Three hoodlums sat beside her, one of whom had his hand on her belly.
Kyra looked thoroughly enjoying herself.
My colleague asked, "Jordyn, do you want to go over?"
"No!" I took out my phone and snapped a few pictures.
Kyra, who always claimed to be a vegetarian for spiritual reasons, was secretly eating meat behind everyone's back.
### [2]
Kyra drank until after three in the morning, taking several calls during that time.
I wanted to inform my brother, but when I saw his message demanding I return the car by morning or face trouble at work, I put my phone down.
I had bought the car with my own money for convenience at work.
Since Kyra got pregnant, she had been pestering my brother to take the car. Over time, they began to think the car was theirs.
I ignored them for half a month, and Kyra dragged my brother to the hospital.
As soon as they entered, Kyra slapped me.
I instinctively slapped her back.
My brother restrained me by the waist. "Jordyn, let Kyra beat you up properly. You upset her last time and never apologized. She's been holding a grudge!"
"Yesterday, Kyra had a nightmare that the baby was born with missing limbs and didn't like us. If she doesn't vent her anger, the baby won't survive!"
My brother was strong, holding my hair with one hand and pinning my arms with the other.
Kyra's fists pummeled me relentlessly.
She tore at my clothes and poked my private parts with a stick.
She was about to stomp on my face when my colleague and security guards intervened.
Kyra leaned on my brother, crying and accusing me, "Jordyn, you don't want to get married yourself, so why curse my baby?"
"He's the Wallace family's future. If anything happens to him, I'll never forgive you!"
The physical pain was nothing compared to the emotional hurt.
My brother looked at me warily. "Jordyn, she's your sister-in-law, and the baby is your niece!"
"Having a brother and sister-in-law like you is my misfortune!"
Kyra's eyes filled with tears. "Did everyone see that? Since I married into this family, Jordyn has always found fault with me!"
"I tried for two years to get pregnant, and she's afraid my baby will steal attention from her. So she says my baby has problems. My parents only said a few words to her, and she left home, taking all the valuable things with her!"
"Jordyn, how can you be so selfish?"
The commotion drew the attention of the hospital administrators, and my colleague presented Kyra's diagnosis to defend me.
I showed the photos of Kyra eating barbecue.
My brother's face changed, and Kyra fainted on the spot.
Chapter 3
[1]
The doctor said that Kyra had a threatened miscarriage, and she accused me of trying to harm her.
My parents declared that if anything happened to the baby, I should suffer the same fate.
I hung up the phone and immediately received a taunting message from Kyra: "Jordyn, the baby in my belly is a precious blessing. You, an old wo
