ELENA'S POV
With tears streaming down my eyes, I walked up to Tyler and gripped his hand. Looking into his eyes, there was no atom of remorse for what he was doing. I had thought he had gone insane, but that was a lie, he was in his right senses. He took his hand away from me and pushed me backward making me stumble.
I almost fell to the ground because I had lost my balance, but I managed to stand still. "Why would you reject me after everything I did for you? If you had never wanted me, why would you let me waste my life and resources on you?" I roared, that was all I could do.
It was disheartening, because there was no way I could take from him all the things I offered him. Is it my body? Or the money I worked hard for which I used to see him through? Then this is what I get in return after several years of being with him. "You're nothing but a beast!" I screamed, followed by a heavy hit on my face.
My eyes grew wide to see the lady who I can't tell her name, but she's the one Tyler chose to replace me. "What gave you the guts to use swear words on the Alpha king? Have you gone nuts? Do you think you're worthy to be the Alpha's Luna huh?" she folded her arms, glaring at me while I watched. "This gathering isn't for people like you..."
"Are you going to pay me the money I wasted on him since he's now your Alpha?" I asked politely, that was the most bitter part of it. Working my ass off and making sure he gets that position only for him to choose another woman as his Luna. "if you will, then I'll leave quietly.'' I added, taking slow steps closer to her.
I don't care if we were in the midst of the crowd gathered for his coronation, besides, who would believe that he will choose me over another woman?
"When you lavished your money on him, what was your expectation? That he will choose a low-rank female like you as his Luna? Neither the ministers nor his family wants you-you're too low class for him." she retorted and dashed out of my presence.
I went dumb, having nothing to say again. He held the bitch and they walked to his throne. "Is this what it means to fall in love with a man? Will I ever make this mistake again in this life?'' I breathed out. "Relationship isn't for the weak, and no low rank should date a high-rank werewolf.'' I bit my lower lips aggressively.
Hot tears streamed down my uncontrollably, enraging me. I matched forward to his throne while the crowd murmured. There's no way I'll be weak before him. Staring into his eyes, I told him what he wasn't expecting. "You'll regret this! Trust me!!" I turned and walked away, but stumbled on an elderly woman that has the same looks just like me.
She looked familiar, so I began contemplating where I met her for the first time. "Greetings!" I bowed to her and made a move but she obstructed my way. Something was off, I noticed that the moment he showed up before the crowd, there were lots of hailings. Even Tyler had that weird look on his face like he saw a ghost.
"Ma'am, what can I do for you?'' I asked. All I want is to know what she's up to that made her pull me back. She turned to me. "I want you to stay back and hear me out because you are worth being here," she replied to the hearing of everyone.
I sighed and then nodded. "Fine, if that's what you want, I'll do it because of you and not for this jerk.'' I pointed at Tyler angrily.
She scoffed and walked forward to Tyler, they exchanged pleasantries and then he stood before everyone and signaled me to come forward. I was still not getting what was going on, but I had to comply. I walked beside her, trying to figure out the resemblance between us and then assuring myself that people of different packs can look–alike.
"As you all know, I am the first wife of the Lycan King," she announced, causing lots of noise from the crowd, and then they paid her respect. Seeing that she isn't known made me know that she is not familiar with letting the world know her-or, why will my pack members, especially the older ones, be narrow-minded about her being the Lycan King's wife?
I glanced at her and sniffed. "Who knows the role I'm about to play here, she's a Lycan and I'm a Werewolf."
"Standing before me is my long lost daughter whom I've been searching for years. We met in the woods months ago and I had my physician run a paternity test with her nails-so it's true, I finally found my daughter," she added.
I burst into laughter. "Stop it Ma, you can play such jokes with me when I'm not in a good mood,'' I muttered, but all she could do was to smile and hold my hands. I recall everything now. I had saved her in the woods when she was on a run, and then she ended up cutting my nails all in the name of not being hygienic.
I didn't interfere because my nails were truly dirty, but I was less blinkered by what she was up to.
The noise within the crowd was dismissed, everywhere became as quiet as a graveyard. Tyler stood from his throne and matched forward to us, he tapped the woman and she turned to him.
"I've heard a lot of good stories about the Lycan Kind's first wife, but watching you say that she is your biological daughter is incredible. She's a werewolf and not a Lycan." he narrated.
She nodded with a slight smile. "Don't be bothered about the genes, because I am a werewolf as well-so there's a possibility that she has a Lycan gene in her which is hidden and the paternity test proved it. I'd just like to meet with the foster parents before taking her."
"But...."
"But what?" I slammed back at Tyler. I wonder what he has ongoing in his mind. "Don't tell me you're against me leaving, not when the Lycan King has the power over your throne and you have already abandoned me?"
He faked a smile. "Uhmm! Elena, we can sort out all these, I've not crowned her yet-I was just ...."
"Just fooling yourself!'' I retorted and transfixed my palms on my waist. "I don't have to go against what she just said because you can see clearly that we have the same looks. And there's no way I'm coming back to an asshole like you who wants me back because I'm about to be on the top-notch.'' I smirked.
The woman held me. "Your Majesty, before I came over here, I already arranged a marriage for her with the Alpha Clay who we are looking forward to being the next Lycan King of our clan-so I plead with you not to disrupt what is already organized."
He clenched his fist in anger, I could see jealousy boldly written on his face. Wanting me back is because he has known that he's under my feet when it comes to rank ...but I see no reason to accept that bullshit into my life, I would better get married to an Alpha that I never loved.
"Elena, give me one more chance and you won't regret it..." he pleaded, while I was about to step out with my mother.
I shook my head, my lips stretched into a wide smile. "You betrayed my trust."
"Then I won't watch you get married to him-you'll always be mine!" he retorted and hissed loudly and looked away.
ELENA'S POV
"My name is Katherine!" she announced to me. I smiled at myself, it's a pleasure meeting my biological mother even though it still seems like a dream to me. Not only did I meet her, but I happened to be the Lycan Princess which I have never dreamt of. Even when it comes to Tyler, I never knew he was going to be the Alpha King, so I never dreamt of being a Luna... but when it happened, I was so happy that I'd be his Luna only to face a betrayal.
Everything happened in my favor, I am the Lycan princess, which means that Tyler will have to bow to me.
"Can I call you, 'Mother'?" I drew her attention and she nodded. She had that same mark with me, and there was nothing different between us. I wonder why I didn't think about this when I saved her in the woods, and then, what the heck brought her in there when she was supposed to be in the palace. "Where are we going?" I asked her.
She smiled at me. "To the clan, you need to see the Alpha you are betrothed to, and then the other family members. Your father prepared a welcome ceremony for you," she explained.
I took a glance backward to see lots of servants following us. This should just be reality. "Won't you see the people I've been staying with?"
"Well do that afterward, the king will reward them so you don't have to worry about that. I already sent out messengers to relay the message to them." she narrated.
I gulped. She already looked into the family that accommodated me all these years, for how long has she been wishing for this day? "Mother, on the day I saved you in the woods, what brought you there? Was that the first day you saw me?"
She shook her head. "It wasn't, but I never knew I would meet you there. Forget about what brought me there-looks like it's the work of the moon goddess."
I wasn't certified with that comment. Even if that wasn't the first day she saw me, there was no way the moon goddess would bring her into the woods just to be in that state. If I had not appeared, who knows what might have been the outcome? "I should keep calm for now until I'm settled there, i'll look into this issue....she must be hiding something from me.'' I thought and licked my lips.
Deep down, I'm very sure she didn't just abandon me, but she will also cover it up and take the blame if I ask her about it. I'll dig out everything myself-how she lost me and why she was in danger in the woods.
We walked slowly until we reached a narrow road, and at one side was a carriage parked.
"Your Highness, you have to climb in." one of the guards said to me. I took a good look at myself and then at my mother. She smiled, signaling me to climb and I did that before her. The guards trolled the carriage until we reached the Lycan's Clan.
Lots of people were on the way, bowing and hailing my arrival.
"How long have this been people been waiting for the Lycan Princess? Did they all think that I was truly dead?" I gasped in surprise. This was my first time stepping my feet in this Clan, and I'd say it was so populated and enormous-beautiful as well.
My mother tapped me. "Have you transformed?" she asked but I was dumb.
What on earth was she talking about? Transform? "Mother, I don't get it."
"You're more than eighteen years old now, that means you're supposed to transform under the full blue moon," she explained. "Well, I have no genes of a werewolf, I am a pure Lycan like your father-I just said that to win Tyler since he was looking for a reason to keep you back."
My brows knitted. "That means I am a pure Lycan too huh?"
She nodded. "But you haven't transformed, which means your traits are still hidden...or it might be as a result of being among the werewolves."
I understood her. Tyler once made fun of me because of that but I didn't understand his point. A few of the friends that I have did the same but I didn't mind even though I watched them transform. They keep saying that I am an incomplete werewolf, but who cares? All that mattered to me was my well-being.
"The full moon will be out very soon, I believe you will transform on that day. It's going to be painful," she added.
My heart sank into my belly, but I kicked it off my mind at that moment.
When we reached the palace, everywhere was filled with people....both young and old. Seeing the elderly man seated on the throne, I knew he was my father. There were few physical features of him that I have-like my eye color.
"Pay respect to your father, the Lycan King," she said to me.
We alighted from the carriage and I walked straight to him...got to my knees and bowed. "Your Majesty!"
I could hear the sniffing from him which meant he was feeling bad. I lifted my face and rushed into his already spread arms.
"She is your stepmother..." my mother said to me.
I heard her say before Tyler that she's the Lycan King's first wife, which means my stepmother is the second wife. But I noticed something weird, the look on her face revealed how unhappy she was to see me alive-making me wonder about the sort of issues she has with my mother.
"And this is your stepbrother." my mother added.
Looking at him, his looks were the same as his mother's, so I didn't bother coming close. All I needed was to wave my hand with a smile on. The fact that I got lost and my mother's life was in danger should be a reason for me to be careful with everyone including my family.
Mother tapped me and pointed at her right. "He is the next Lycan King of this Clan who was betrothed to you. His name is Alpha Clay...."
That was so impressive, he was so charming, at least I'll never regret leaving Tyler. That jerk was no match to him when it comes to physical attraction...he is stoutly built and has more power than Tyler.
I walked closer to him and held his hands. "My name is Elena..."
He kissed my palm making me blush, no one had done that to me before.
As my mother had urged me, I said a few words to the crowd and then left the environment with Clay. We moved into the palace for some other things that needed to be discussed. There, our wedding date was fixed, but my father had insisted that I go with him to get to know his residence and then return the next day.
He also assigned several servants to me...both male and female.
The female servants washed me up themselves and then dressed me up. I looked different while staring at myself through the mirror, making me wish that Tyler was here to see how stunning the female he dumped looked.
Ready to leave with Alpha Clay, we left the palace and headed to his Clan, it was a bit far from ours, but then my father was the overall King ruling all the Lycan Clans and Werewolf packs.
Immediately we stepped into the compound, I met my greatest nightmare, one thing I wasn't expecting. A bowl of dirty water was emptied on my body making me have a foul smell. "What is going on?" That was the question I asked myself as the female servants rushed towards me and the male servants drew out their swords.
I wiped my face to see an elegant woman standing before me with two swords on her neck, she had that heavy glare that might kill me if possible. "Why will everything just happen today? Can I know my offense?" I politely referred to her even though looking at her she might be of my age.
She smirked. "I had thought it was a joke, but now I know that it's all true. How dare you step your feet here all in the name of my Alpha's new Luna?"
The blood running in my veins drained. I swallowed deeply to put myself together. "Are you saying that Clay already has a Luna and I am going to be the second Luna? Like, you're his Luna huh?'' I queried anxiously.
She nodded. "Just leave. Reject his proposal or I'll make life hell for you here, I won't watch you share my Alpha with me-so just leave and never come back," she screamed.
I took a good look at myself and sighed. "This is the worst day ever, from fire to a furnace. Don't tell me mother was aware of this and she betrothed me to him...how on earth am I going to cope here as wife?'' I turned immediately, heading to my carriage only for me to see Clay standing there, staring at me.
"There's no more going back Elena, so allow me to explain." that was all he could say.
My heartbeat increased.
ELENA'S POV
Just within a day, I got rejected, was accepted into a new home, and then I fell into a pit. I wasn't sure if there was a way out. What was I thinking when I agreed to marry a man that I knew nothing about his background? Didn't Mother investigate this or did she know all along?
I blew out a hot breath, still standing immobile before Clay. I wonder what the heck he's about to explain to me now that will make sense, all I wish is just to go back to the foster home that I've been in and manage my well-being. "Your Highness!" one of the female servants tapped me. I turned but she said nothing, making me shudder.
"I'm sorry that Luna didn't tell you that you'll be my second wife, that's exactly our agreement and the only remaining thing here is our wedding." Clay finally said something, which was irrelevant to me because I've never longed to be the second Luna to any man. "The truth is, I need an heir to be eligible for the position of the Lycan king of this Clan."
"Are you saying that you're marrying me just for the sake of giving you a child? You don't even love me-I'll just be your breeder huh? Then what of her?'' I pointed at his Luna, who was still watching the scene. "Are you going to kick her out with her kids?"
He scoffed.
"What's funny about this issue?" I asked her, coming closer so he could see how enraged I was. "You're planning to kick her out and replace her with me just for you to be the next Lycan king of this pack right?" I screeched at him.
He shook his head pitifully. "That's not it, the moon goddess already declared me the next king, but to be eligible for that throne, I need a child whether a male or female ... but she hasn't given me any." he narrated.
I sighed. "Then look for another option." I slammed and dashed away but he ran over and obstructed my way.
"I'm not getting married to you because your parents want me to, but because I love you and I want you to be my woman. I believe that with you, I'll make a better king just like your father ... .Please don't tell me you're going back to Tyler because you don't want to be my second wife." he held my hands. "If you go, I'll never find happiness."
I burst into laughter. "Happiness? I don't have one, and I won't have any if I'm your second wife-so please let me be." I roared and pushed him aside, then climbed onto the carriage. "I'll have to tell Mother that I can't do this, they should look for another option or better still kick me out. I can't marry him when all they want is a child for him to gain the throne....I am not for sale." I thought and signaled the guards to keep the carriage moving.
We left the compound entirely when I felt something strange within me, but I couldn't tell what was wrong with me. "Stop!" I ordered them and they obeyed. I felt weird about Clay and I wanted to see his face again. Is it just about giving him a child and becoming the king? Does he truly love me like he said? I bit my lower lips and then turned to the guard at my side. "Go back to his house, I forgot to tell him something."
He nodded and signaled the others, then the carriage was turned. We went back to his house and I climbed down, intending to go in since there was no one in the compound.
I could hear the roaring sound of a woman sounding irritating, then I paused my movement to hear her so well.
"Aren't you ashamed of yourself? You're getting married to her because you have to cover the fact that you're impotent and can impregnate a woman....who knows your next plan? Maybe forcing another man on her and claiming that you did it-because you know I can't do such a thing." Then the voice stopped. I released a deep breath. "Just give up on being the next king because you're cursed. I won't even let that brat step into this home.." the voice added.
I swallowed my saliva and pushed the door open, but no one was in the room. I walked ahead and entered the next room to see Clay and his Luna standing before each other. The look on his face was pitiful, he looked like someone who was doomed.
None of them caught my presence, so I sneakily left the room instantly to meet the servants standing at the doorpost.
"Is he truly impotent?" I asked them but they glanced at each other.
One of them nodded. "Rumors say that he's impotent that's why he can't get pregnant with his wife. Some say that he's cursed and can't bear a child."
This must be a joke. If he's impotent then why will the Moon goddess choose him as the next king? Something is off somewhere.
"Uhmm! Is that woman his mate?" I asked them again and they all shook their heads. "That means he never found his mate?" they nodded in unison.
Interesting! Having not found his mate might be the reason he can't impregnate a woman, who knows, the moon goddess only wants an heir from his mate. "I'll talk to my mother about this..." I thought and made a move.
"Your Highness! The Full blue moon will be out tonight." the guard at the back announced to me.
My brows furrowed. "So early? Is it because of me? Mother never said it would come out now, and I don't want to feel pain." I uttered, feeling sad. I've seen werewolves transform and the snapping of bones is quite painful, especially on the first day. I wonder how I'll feel now that I'm over eighteen years old.
"There's no option left, you will have to transform tonight." the guard remarked and walked ahead of me. Is he the chief guard or what? I hissed inwardly and followed him until I climbed back to the carriage and we headed to the palace.
~
"If he's impotent, then you'll have to prove to the whole Clan that he isn't. Nothing will change the fact that you both are getting married-and you're not leaving this Clan ever again. Do you know the pain I went through looking for you." my mother narrated when I told her everything that happened.
My face chiseled. "Do you know the pains I'll go through in that house all in the name of being his second wife? Mother, are you aware that his first wife won't let me have peace unless I die...talk more of if I ever get pregnant...?"
She grabbed my hand, looking into my eyes. "You can do it, the fate of this Clan lies in your hands. First, you'll prove that he isn't impotent. Second, you must stay strong and overcome his first wife and then be his Luna ... that's your fate, and nothing is changing it." she remarked.
I made a long face even when I knew that it would solve no problem. "Mother, isn't the first wife his mate? How did they end up together? If he's not impotent, why doesn't she have a child? Is there something discreet about their marriage?"
She laughed out loud and let go of my hands. "You'll find out everything after marriage, but you must be strong and conquer all." She gave me a warm smile. "Get ready to transform tonight!"
I nodded and sat down. Everything was confusing.
At first, I had decided to look into the cause of my disappearance at a tender age and then why my mother was in danger ... but looks like there are still lots of secrets to unfold.
"Who is she to Clay since they aren't mates? What does she have up her sleeves?" I gasped and scratched my head.
