Lyra POV
Taking each step deeper into an unfamiliar territory, I pushed through the tangled brush. The scent was wild, earthy, yet unmistakably different like a warning in the air, daring me to turn back. But it was too late. I'd wandered too far, misjudged the boundaries. The Moonshade Pack's land stretched out before me, and with it came the rumor of the one wolf no lone omega dared to cross.
Just as I stilled to catch my breath, a low growl rumbled from afar, its force prickling across my skin.
"You're trespassing." The voice was low, dark, and cut through the forest air like a knife.
I whirled around, my heart stalling as my gaze locked onto the form of a man; tall, broad, with eyes so intense they seemed to sear right into me. Alpha Kaelan. I felt his power and Authority before he stepped out to where I could see him.
"I didn't mean to," I stammered. "I... I lost track of the border."
"Convenient excuse." He didn't sound like he believed me for a second, his gaze unwavering. "And yet here you are, right in the heart of Moonshade territory."
The way he was scanning me made my breath shaky. "I only wanted to rest. I swear, I wasn't here to cause trouble."
"Trouble or not, you crossed into my land," he said, stepping closer, his expression as cold as stone. "Trespassers are not treated lightly, especially for a lone wolf."
His words made the hair on my neck stand. I was more alone than he could imagine and he sensed it. My instinct signaled for me to run from him as far as possible. But the moment I tried to step back, his eyes gleamed dangerously.
"What's your name?" he demanded, his voice as firm as his eyes.
"Lyra," I responded, the word stuck in my throat. His glare softened, just a split second, maybe he liked my name. But he quickly masked it, his expression hardened once more.
"Lyra," he repeated. Then he took another step forward, this time he was close enough that I felt the heat he emitted. "You're coming with me."
"I'm not your prisoner," I retorted, taking a step back, but he matched my pull backwards, closing the space between us in a single step.
"No? Then what are you?" His voice was laced with something I couldn't quite place, an edge of curiosity but mixed with the control of someone who was used to getting his way. "A lost little omega in my land?"
I wrapped my hand to fist, resisting the urge to fire back. "I never wanted to be here. I don't want anything to do with your pack."
"And yet, here you are." He tilted his head, studying me. "If you didn't want trouble, Lyra, you wouldn't have wandered so deep into my territory."
His eyes were so intense, but I felt a pull, a connection somehow between us that was more than just hostility. Maybe he felt it too. His eyes grew softer for a second before he shook his head, seemingly to ward off an idea.
"You're coming with me" he declared, leaving no room for debate. "I must know why my wolf's reacting to you."
I blinked, caught off guard. "Your wolf...?"
"Don't you feel it, too?" He challenged me to deny it as his eyes locked with mine. You don't feel this, pull between us?
The words caught in my throat as I opened my mouth. The truth was indisputable, even though I wanted to deny it and insist it was all in his head. I sensed a thread that seemed to have been woven between us.
I muttered, "It doesn't matter how I feel," attempting to match his gaze. "I'm not staying here".
He scoffed, his expression hardening. "Who says you have a choice?"
I took a step back, but he stretched out his hand and grabbed my wrist in a firm manner. "You're not running, Lyra. Not until I know why you're here."
I had to suppress a gasp as his touch sent a hot, electric spark through me. His hold became tighter when I attempted to wrench my hand away.
"Let go of me," I spoke in a harsh tone.
"Why should I?" His eyes narrowed as he leaned closer. "Don't you sense that bond? Well, I cannot ignore this.
"Bond?" I tried not to tremble as I spoke. "You're not even someone I know."
"That's the problem," he murmured, his voice was almost like a growl.
Dhould I yell at him to let go of me? but the way he stared at me made me dumbfounded, like he was seeing through my soul. I hated him already.
"Why are you doing this?" I demanded, my voice was inconsistent.
He seemed to consider my question, furrowing his eyes he responded . "Because my wolf doesn't want me to let you go. And I'm not the kind of man who ignores instincts."
I swallowed hard. "So what now? Are you just going to keep me here?"
"For now, yes." His tone left no room for debate. "Until I figure out what this is between us, you're not leaving."
I glared at him, defiance sparking within me. "I don't belong to you. I'm not some toy you can keep around just because you're curious."
He smirked, loosening his gaze a bit. "Who said anything about you being a toy, Lyra? This is something else entirely."
I stared at him, my heart pounding as his words settled over me. Despite everything, there was something in his gaze, a heat that was impossible to ignore. The Alpha was attracted to me, and that thought alone was enough to send a rush of panic through me.
"Whatever this is, it's not proper," I calmly said this time while trying to pull his grip on my hand again. "Let me go. I don't want this."
He held firm, his expression unyielding. "I don't care what you want. I'm only concerned about what this thing between us is. And until we figure that out, you're staying."
"I won't be a prisoner," I snapped, my voice rising.
"Then stop fighting me." He released my hand abruptly, and I stumbled back, caught off guard. "Stay willingly. Stay until we understand... this."
At this moment, he looked almost vulnerable. But then he straightened his face again.
"Stay, Lyra," speaking calmly, the words a low command. "I can't let you leave. Not yet."
My resolve fluttered, taking a step back and his eyes were not leaving me, though I wanted to run but a part of me wanted to stay.
"Fine," I said, giving in after much struggle. "But only until you figure out why you feel this... this bond. Then I'm gone."
The corner of his mouth tugged slightly with a smirk, and he leaned slightly forward. "We'll see how that goes."
Then he turned and started walking, giving me room to catch up with him. When we got to his pack, he kept me in a cabin and summoned the pack elder.
Kaelan POV
Pacing back and forth the pack elder words "Bound by fate," resounded in my head. I didn't believe in fate; not when it dictated my choices, not when it told me who I could and couldn't be tied to. And yet, here I was, tangled in a bond I hadn't asked for, a bond to the most unlikely person imaginable: Lyra, the lone omega who'd stumbled into my territory and turned my world upside down in one breathless encounter.
"Tell me there's another way," I demanded, my voice sharper than I intended as I looked at Elder Rian.
He shook his head, his expression unyielding. "The mate bond is ancient, Alpha. Breaking it isn't impossible, but it comes with consequences. Without the ritual, the bond will only grow stronger."
"And the ritual?" I forced myself to keep my voice calm, even as my wolf rumbled with irritation inside me.
"Requires both of you to be here, together, for days. Until it weakens." He looked at me with sympathy. "Alpha, This isn't easy I know, but these laws have bound our kind for centuries. You're bonded, and there's no fast way out."
The feeling of being trapped made me fold my hand. As much as I wanted to fight, I knew he wasn't lying. Pack laws had always been absolute. "And she knows?"
"Not yet," he said, his tone grave. "But she will soon. She deserves to know exactly what she's walking into."
Lyra. I glanced toward the door, realizing with a bitter twist that the last thing I wanted was to tell her. The minute I did, she'd understand the mess we were truly in. And part of me wondered if she'd stay, or if she'd do everything in her power to escape.
I exhaled sharply. "Fine. I'll talk to her."

I crossed my arms around my chest, out of discomfort and irritation, while I sat on the bed in the small cabin he kept me. The space had just the bed, an old-fashioned dresser and nothing to keep me from feeling like a prisoned animal. And Alpha Kaelan was nowhere to be found.
Then, the door opened, and I stood on my feet when I saw him walking in, his expression was hard to read.
"What took you so long?" The question burst out before I could stop it. "You left me here with no answers, nothing. You owe me an explanation."
His jaw clenched, his eyes intense. "You'll get it" he said, his voice abrupt. "But it's not what you're hoping to hear."
"Try me," I challenged, my heartbeat skipped. I didn't know why I felt so defensive around him-maybe it was the strange energy between us, like a thread pulling tighter each time we argued. Or maybe it was because he looked like he was battling with the same emotion I was.
He took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto mine. "The bond between us... it's not something either of us can ignore. The elders confirmed it. We're bound."
"Bounded?" I repeated, a surge of disbelief rising within me. "What does that even mean? I didn't ask for this."
"Neither did I," he said, his voice rough. "But it doesn't matter. The mate bond is ancient. Breaking it isn't as easy as walking away."
My heart dropped. "What are you saying?"
"I'm saying," he began, crossing his arms, his gaze never leaving mine, "that you're stuck here until we figure this out. And the only way to weaken the bond is through a ritual that takes days."
"Days?" I took a step back, shaking my head. "So I'm just... what? A prisoner here?"
"You're not a prisoner," he said sharply. "But you're bound to me until we deal with this, Lyra."
"This is your problem not mine." I shot back, frustration bubbling up. "I have my own life, my own plans. I didn't sign up to be forced into some ancient bond just because I wandered too far into your territory."
Kaelan's gaze turned to a frown, his voice low. "Do you think I wanted this? You think I wanted a bond with a stranger-someone who had no place here?"
His words hit me differently but I raised my head high and refused to give in. "Then let me go. Let me leave, and you can keep your precious territory."
He let out a humorless laugh. "I've thought about that but it's not easy. The bond doesn't care what we want. Till the ritual is done, we're trapped ... together."
I shook my head, trying to accept this predicament. "So, what? We just pretend this doesn't exist?"
"It's not it" he replied, loosening up a bit. "It's about pulling through it. And for that, we have to work together."
A tense silence stretched between us. I hated the truth in his words, the realization that, like it or not, I was bound to this Alpha who saw me as nothing more than an unwanted intruder.
"Fine," I said finally, my voice barely above a murmur. "I'll stay. But don't expect me to go easy on you"
He curled an eyebrow, a hint of amusement flashed in his eyes. "I wouldn't dream of it."

The next few days were a blur of forced proximity and bristling tension. Kaelan made sure I had food and whatever else I needed, but every interaction between us felt like a battle. Even the simplest conversations turned into arguments, each of us stubborn, each of us unwilling to yield.
One evening, after an especially heated exchange about the pack's rigid rules, I finally exploded.
"You think just because you're an Alpha, you can dictate everything?" I snapped, my fists clenched. "That everyone should just fall in line and obey?"
"Maybe that's because they should," he retorted, his gaze intense. "Rules exist for a reason, Lyra. They keep order. They keep people safe."
"Or maybe they just keep people trapped," I countered, anger flaring within me. "Maybe if you ever stopped to think about others instead of your precious control, you'd see that."
"Is that what you think?" he asked, his voice dangerously quiet.
"Yes," I replied, meeting his gaze. "Because you're too busy playing Alpha to actually understand anyone else."
My words hurt him, but it disappeared almost immediately. He walked up to me, his eyes burning with anger. "You think I don't understand? I've given my life to this pack. Every choice, every sacrifice-it's all been for them. You have no idea what it takes to lead, Lyra."
"Or because you don't want anyone to see the real you," I shot back, refusing to back down. "You keep everyone at a distance, like you're afraid to mingle with people."
He narrowed his eyes and clenched his teeth. "And what makes you think you know me?"
I wasn't sure why I'd said that, so I hesitated but the words had gone out before I could stop them. The fierce Alpha armor he wore had a crack, there was vulnerability beyond it. it may be for a minute, I wanted to see it and understand it,despite everything.
But before I could say another word, he shook his head, his expression closing off once more. "This bond between us is nothing more than a nuisance. Once it's broken, you're free to go."
The words hurt more than I expected, my chest ached so I brushed it off, ignoring the disappointment. After all, I never dreamt of this. But the thought of leaving him, or ending this strange connection between us... a part of me didn't want to let go.
Placing my hands on my waist "Fine. If that's what you want."
"It is," he said, his voice hard.
A tense silence came, he then turned around and walked out of the cabin.
As the door shut behind him, I felt confused.
Was I beginning to care?
Kaelan Pov
Few days after our argument, I came with yet another news she probably may not like. I stared at Lyra, her eyes beaming with anger as she clenched her fists. I nearly changed my mind about what I was going to say. But I had no choice.
"From now on, you'll stay in my chambers," I stated firmly.
Her eyes grew wide in disbelief, like she was hearing something unbelievable. "Your quarters? Are you serious?
Obviously, Lyra. My quarters. I kept my eyes on her, not letting her see my weakness. "I have to watch you closely."
She scoffed, crossing her arms. "Is that what you tell yourself? That I'm a threat? Or are you just paranoid?"
Call it what you want. But until we understand what's happening with this bond, you're staying where I can keep observing you."
Her lips pressed into a thin line. "So, that's it? I'm just supposed to obey?"
"Yes," I replied, allowing the word to linger between us. "Lyra, this isn't debatable."
Her resentment became almost like anger as she shook her head. "You believe that because you're the Alpha, you can just... command me around?" Her eyes lit with challenge as she looked up. "Kaelan, I don't give a damn about your title. I am not your property.
"No," I muttered, "You're not." Regrettably, whether you like it or not, you are currently part of my duty to this pack.
There was a tense silence between us, and I briefly believed she would argue. Rather, she gritted her teeth, let out a sharp exhale, and turned her head away.

Holding back my resentment, I gritted my teeth. The last thing I wanted was staying in his guarded chamber. Every part of me wanted to reject his control, his authority, but something in his eyes stopped me. Maybe it was the strange glimmer of concern beneath his stubborn gaze, or maybe it was that bond that kept drawing me back despite myself.
"Fine," I muttered. "I'll stay. But don't expect me to be grateful."
"I don't expect anything," he replied, a trace of exasperation in his tone. "Except that you go by the rules."
"Your rules?" I scoffed, feeling the fire in my chest flare up again. "Because you're Alpha, right?"
"Exactly." His expression hardened, but there was something else there-a flicker of restraint. "And if you can't follow them, then consider yourself an enemy to this pack."
I wanted to yell, but I swallowed it since I had no choice actually. The bond between us wasn't something I could just ignore, and Kaelan's authority... Well, it was clear he wasn't going to bend easily.
"Fine," I said finally, refusing to look at him. "Show me my room."
Smile spread across his face briefly, but he didn't let it show fully. "Come with me."
He led me down the hallway to a large room that was undeniably his. The heavy, wooden furniture, the dark colors, and the subtle scent of pine all screamed Kaelan. This was his personal space, and the tension between us only grew thicker as I stepped inside.
"Here," he said, gesturing to the bed. "You'll stay here."
"Of course," I muttered, crossing my arms as I glanced around. "So you can keep me close to sight."
He ignored my sarcasm. "I'll have a guard posted outside, too. This isn't just about you, Lyra. It's about my pack's safety."
"Safety?" I couldn't help but laugh, though it was tinged with frustration. "From what, Kaelan? I'm not here to hurt anybody. Besides, you don't even know what I can do."
"That's exactly why you'll be here," he stated.
.
.
Later that evening, the pack was buzzing with its usual activities, the sounds of laughter and conversation drifting through the walls of Kaelan's quarters. But the moment I finally felt a sense of calm settle over me, a commotion erupted outside.
The door swung open, and Kaelan came inside, his expression tense. "Stay here," he ordered, his voice calm and quick.
"What's going on?" I asked, my pulse rised as I caught the urgency in his voice.
"Just stay," he said again, half way out the door. He was gone after that.
The distant, faint sounds of a struggle pierced the air as the sounds from outside grew louder. The terrified voices and shouting of pack members rose in alarm.
Before I even knew what I was doing, I followed my instincts and ran out the door, heading toward the sounds of the chaos. As I reached the forest, I spotted a small group of injured and defenseless wolves.
A young girl lay on the ground, breathing shallowly, blood leaking from a cut on her leg. The urge that made my chest hurt was too strong for me to resist. Kneeling next to her, I placed my hands on the wound, a strange sensation built within me.
"Lyra, what are you doing?" Kaelan's voice cut through the chaos, but I ignored him, focusing on the girl.
My hands grew warm, an energy surged from within and I lowered my hand and as I did, the wound began to close, the bleeding reduced until it stopped.
The girl blinked up at me, her pain-filled eyes wide with shock. "How...?"
I felt Kaelan's presence beside me, his gaze intense. "What did you just do?"
I stared up at him, feeling a mix fear and satisfaction. "I helped."
His eyes narrowed with suspicion. "Since when can you heal?"
I raised my shoulders since I couldn't explain it myself. "I don't know. I just... did."
He stared at me, with an unreadable gaze. "This isn't normal, Lyra. That kind of power... it's dangerous."
"Dangerous?" I frowned, feeling a pang of frustration. "I just saved her. How is that dangerous?"
He let out a harsh breath, his jaw clenched. "Because abilities like that attract attention, attention we don't need right now."
"So, what?" I shot back, rising to my feet. "You prefer I just stand back and do nothing? Watch people suffer when I can help?"
His eyes flashed, a hint of anger mixed with something else. "This is my pack, Lyra. And you are an outsider with abilities you don't even grasp, do you?
The weight of what he had said began to weigh heavily on my chest. "You recognize me as a danger," I uttered, my pain difficult to detect. "Isn't that the reason you're keeping me here?"
Kaelan's eyes remained fixed and he did not respond right away. "You can't be trusted, the more why I'm keeping you close."
I was unready for the force in those words; It was more like a blow. However, I raised my chin to hide the impact it had on me from him. I matched his intensity when I said, "Then perhaps you should get used to it. "Because I will not stand by and watch people suffer."
His hands were clenched at his sides as he gazed at me with a twisted jaw. "We'll talk about this later."
He turned to leave, anger and hurt building inside me. But before he walked away, he faced me and his face was up tight.
"Lyra," he said, his voice low. "Don't make me regret keeping you here."
And with that, he was gone.
