The dark brown hair swiftly caresses her face, getting attached to the slightly red skin because of sweat. Her exhausted eyes keep monitoring the foods which are letting a flavorful aroma of seasoning. Today, she is going to meet her husband, a Billionaire who has been away from her since the day she said, " I do!"
Gwen Stacy is the obedient wife of a billionaire Businessman who has said goodbye before saying " I do", signing the marriage paper and getting no chance to look at his wife or let his wife see.
When she vowed to love her husband, she thought her life would be like a fairytale-like all middle-class family girls wish to have. Getting a husband who is many
women's heartthrob. A family where she doesn't have to worry about money neither a world where she has to face poverty...
However, Those thoughts were well-wishes and fantasies. In reality, she was never able to meet
her husband neither she even had the experience of being a wife in front of her husband.
Right now, After three years of waiting,
Her husband is finally coming back home today. She's pretty busy preparing the favourite dishes of her husband. After staying here for three years without any break, her mother-in-law made her memorize the list of their favourite things that she must have followed as the Daughter-in-law of the Rich family.
"I have told you to cook all the dishes right before it's 1:00 pm. Now it's already 12:45 pm. Do you think you can finish everything within fifteen minutes?"
A rude voice echoes the walls of the kitchen as the sound of high heels approaches her from a distance. Hearing the voice she can recognize, that her mother-in-law is coming here.
Gwen chewed her bottom lip with nervousness. Her fingers shake as she grabs the freshly baked cherry pie.
Her mother-in-law's daily routine is yelling from the balcony while enjoying her own time. She doesn't
even allow the Servants to help her with a single task. She has to do everything by herself and without any flaws. So having her around right now is nothing but something strong choking her to death.
"Sorry, Mom I had to handle everything alone and -"
She can't even complete her words as her mother raises her voice with her hand which lands on her sweaty face.
"Are you giving me an excuse? I still think my son never deserves such an idiot girl like you. Why did l ever go to my parents' house and let my husband do
whatever he wants.Tsk!"
Frustrated, she stops standing for another second since the kitchen is getting hotter because of nonstop cooking since morning. Her long silk gown which flawlessly kisses her body, looks dazzling and beautiful in the light. But her character, the inside is filled with ugly poison.
Gwen's gaze falls upon the boiling oil which is bubbling up. Her eyes shake with painful tears as her hand reaches her face. Sometimes her heart wants to escape from this world. If only she didn't have
promised her father-in-law.
Two years ago, The unexpected marriage happened when she met her father-in-law in a park unconscious.
She out of kindness took care of him as she used to take care of her sick father.
Did she ever think that her actions would bring her something unexpected? She was asked and
promised to marry his son. Because he believed that she would be the perfect wife for his son.
But Three years have passed, and she hasn't even seen him once.
"Make sure. You finish them."
Her mother-in-law shouts from the dining room, grabbing her favourite snack to dig in. In this house, only her mother-in-law is allowed to walk freely. Gwen has to finish her work silently without any word spoken.
Gwen nods silently. She doesn't have anything to say. Since she got married, she wasn't sure who she talked to. Her father, her only family has betrayed her before she could able to question, " Why?" Her mother is long lost, she said Hello to God for long time ago. So, in this world, all she has is her husband who doesn't call her or talk to her. She doesn't even know if her husband is a good person or a bad person. All she knows, she isn't allowed to question about her husband.
A hopeless sigh escapes from her wishing to have a good time with her husband who never showed up before her. Maybe he will change her entire fate. She doesn't complain about the suffering. All she wants is to get the love and get the treatment as a human, as a daughter-in-law.
As she is lost in her deep thoughts, A sudden palpitation starts hitting her heart as if she will run out of breath anytime when her mother-in-law exclaims " My Son is here!"
They know who it is as the doorbell rings. In this house, Only she and her mother-in-law live. Her father-in-law passed away last year. Except for some servants, no one visits without any prior notification.
" My Sweetheart! How are you? Mom was missing you so much!"
A towering figure appears as the door is open. With a soft and genuine smile, he wishes Good Noon to his mother who is desperately hugging her only son.
Derek Nicole, 27 years old handsome boy is a workaholic CEO of Nicole Entertainment Company Limited. One of the best companies that rules the entertainment world.
With a god-gifted handsomeness, he can attract women without any single attempt. The 6' 2" tall with a ripped body, Derek undeniably stands for his breathtaking appearance.
After three years of spending time outside of the country for business, he finally returned home.
" How are you, Mom? You look beautiful today!" Derek grins hugging back to his dearest mother. At his father's funeral, he was unable to return and wasn't here to support her. He feels guilty for everything.
"I am fine. Don't flatter your mother." Mrs. Nicole laughs, blushing at her only son's comment.
Meanwhile...
Gwen's eyes are desperate to see the water flowing on her hands as fast as possible to wash her hands. Tearing a pile of napkins from the napkin holder, she walks towards the kitchen door and slightly peeps into the hall room to see her husband for the first time.
Her black orbs glisten, and eyelids part away to express more as her eyes catch his six-foot-tall figure, thick eyebrows and well-defined arms, which are caged with his well-tailored fitted shirt. A hiccup escapes making her embarrassed as she keeps staring at the Man who is her husband.
"So handsome!" She whispers resting her exhausted body against the edge of the wall. Her eyes are thanking God after being blessed with such a good looking husband. He will definitely be a perfect husband for her, this excites her exhausted soul which is desperate to get love.
However, Her pupils shrieked, finding a beautiful girl entering the room and wrapping her hand around his arm. A gentle smile appears on her husband's face as he watches the girl walking forward confidently.
"Hello. Auntie. It's been a while" The girl smiles hugging Mrs Nicole.
" Anusha. Is that you? I can't believe that you have returned. My Moon who brightens up my house!"
Exclaiming, her hand reaches Anusha Suzanne's back to stroke gently. Her eyes are full of expectations for a certain future which she can only imagine.
Gwen who is kinda confused about the girl's identity, frowns. They seem to know each other. But she never talked about having another daughter or someone relative.
But Anusha Suzanne, the girl who is creating thousands of questions in her mind, ends those popping out questions with her sentences.
"Your son has never wanted to let me go. He found me. even though I wanted to run away. That's why I couldn't stop myself from coming back. My love is true for him and it's hard to ignore him, Aunt!" She blushes, looking at Derek who is proud of his girlfriend's words.
"| can never let you go!" he declares.
In the midst of everything, they have forgotten there is someone who has been waiting for three years to meet her dearest husband. Gwen's gaze reflects the light, tears around her eyes are struggling to shed. Her soft and fragile heart crumples with inner storms.
" Young Mistress! The cake is ready."
Everyone's attention goes to Gwen who startles when a servant speaks and calls her name out. Derek who is standing with his girlfriend, looks at her, seeing her agitating on the spot.
" Sorry, I forgot about it." She speaks calmly, heading inside.
" Who is this beautiful lady?" Anusha asks,
" Nobody! She is the servant of our family. Don't worry about it, My sweet girl!"
Mrs. Nicole grits her teeth, glaring at Gwen who dared to walk out without her permission.
"So, You are Derek's wife on paper. Nice to meet you, I am Arusha Suzanne, Derek's Girlfriend!"
Instead of listening to Arusha Suzanne, A British American brunette, 5'4" who is speaking so cutely, Gwen is staring at her husband and mother-in-law. Her eyes are asking enough to get an explanation from both of them. How could they do this to her? Gwen wants to question but the pain is stuck in her throat to form words.
"No response? Seems like your wife didn't accept me." Arusha hisses with disappointment. But a smile appears on her face when Derek grabs her wrist and pulls her into his embrace.
"Who cares if she accepts you or not? She is like a servant here. After the divorce, she will leave eventually. Let's go to our room You are already weak."
Derek speaks as if he is saying some universal truth. His words don't convey any emotions, no hatred, no guilt. As if it is true, so he doesn't need to worry about the person who is standing before him with tearful eyes.
"Don't be so sweet or I won't be able to leave you again." Hitting his chest playfully Arusha rests her head on his chest.
"I will never let you run away. Arusha. So don't dare to say that again." A soft kiss plants on Arusha's lips.
But everyone's attention goes to Gwen who has been hanging her head down like a culprit. Her tearful eyes go to her mother-in-law who is enjoying her son's affairs.
"Isn't it cruel?"
Gwen bites her bottom lip, leaving the room to cook the remaining dishes. Her tears fall. She has been waiting for three years. Did she get this for waiting? Why didn't they just tell her that she was unwanted? Why didn't they tell her that her husband had someone else? She doesn't want to be a third wheel neither she wants to feel these horrible feelings right now.
" What are you crying about? Do your work. And Prepare Juice for Arusha. Finally, my son's happiness is back."
Mrs. Nicole walks inside the kitchen to check what she is doing after leaving her son and his girlfriend without responding to anything. However seeing her crying silently, makes her irritated.
"How cruel!" Gwen mumbles, her salty tears falling seeing how nonchalant they are about her feelings. She thought at least they would give her the respect she deserved.
"What did you say? I'm cruel!" Mrs. Nicole hisses at her approaching her with enraged hostility.
"Aren't you, Mom?" She responds without second thoughts. Her heart is breaking into pieces but nobody cares.
"Gwen Stacy!!!" Mrs. Nicole yells, shocked by Gwen's talking back.
"Why didn't you say that your son has someone else? Why did you make me wait for someone who was never mine in the first place?" She questions unable to hold herself back, " Yet. You are telling me, your son got his happiness and I should prepare Juice? Who am I to you two then? A servant?"
" How... How dare you raise your voice against me?"
A sharp slap across her face creates a deafening silence in her soul. Mrs. Nicole exhales sharply suppressing her Anger after seeing a lowly life dared to question her.
"Don't you know why we have accepted you? Yes. Now you should know if you don't know about it. We accepted you because we needed a caretaker who would take care of my husband." She grits her teeth speaking,
" Also Why are you hoping so high? All those years, You lived here in the name of our family. You are living well.
You should be grateful now"
A bitter scoff escapes from her when she realizes they didn't think of her as a Daughter-in-law who came here three years ago, " So, I am here as a servant, not your son's wife."
"My son has never acknowledged you as his wife.
Do you think you have the place to be my son's wife
Go and see yourself in the mirror. Even my dogs won't accept you as a wife!"
Gwen couldn't say anything. All her dreams, having a family, thinking about her husband from time to time. Having kids and so more, all she dreamed of like other married women is shattered now. With silent, invisible blood, invisible tears, and invisible death of the soul. She returns to the kitchen, she will stay here until she gets the divorce paper signs. As servant. After all, she
should be grateful for those years of pathetic dreams.
.........
Her eyes watch her husband picking the food for his lover as she is standing next to them to serve them food. She can see the position of her who is in the name of Daughter-in-law. Derek's eyes never leave his long-lost lover who he has been loving wholeheartedly.
"Is it a coincidence? Gwen has cooked all of my favorite food. I can't believe that!"
Hearing Anusha's words, Gwen finds the ground shaking. She glances at her mother-in-law who asks her to cook those foods. She even said they are Derek's favorite dishes.
"I told Mom to cook those. Do you like them? Or I should -"
"No. No. She is a really great cook. I love it. Thank you, Gwen!" Anusha gives a warm smile, resting her head on Derek's shoulder weakly. " It's been a while since I have a homemade meal. Thanks, Derek. Thanks for finding me!"
Gwen didn't reply, leaving for the kitchen. Anusha's words make her feel she is mocking Gwen. Her words are sharp as a knife, hits Gwen's heart. Somehow Gwen is hating herself for being pathetic and a loser. She should leave right now but where she will go? She doesn't know much about the city although she has been staying here for three years.
" She is upset. I shouldn't have come, Derek." Shedding tears, she speaks weakly. Her eyes are on the plate, sobbing.
"Don't mind her. Sweetheart. She knows it's just a temporary marriage. Also, you know those low-class family's people only hope high. Come on. Have them. Although she has no talent but she is a great cook!"
Mrs. Nicole places the meatloaf on her plate while caressing her back.
"OK. Thank you for forgiving me, Aunt. I shouldn't have hurt Derek by leaving her suddenly!"
" It's okay. You two enjoy your time. Don't worry about some outsider."
Her hands shake as Gwen hears them talking. An outsider? It hurts her more than she thought it would be. Seeing the family dining together somehow mocks her dream. She used to dream about having a family.
Now, she is an outsider in front of her family. " Please bring the soup to Mom. "
Handing the soup to a servant, she walks inside her bedroom. She doesn't want to make herself pitiful in front of them. She did nothing wrong to get this treatment.
" Did you prepare the divorce papers? Derek!"
Closing the door of her bedroom, her back reaches the door, her knees getting weaker. Her heart is pounding with a mix of emotional turmoil. How could everything happen after three years of marriage? How could they do it to her? Wasting three years when she was hoping to build her own family?
She was said that Derek will return. That's why she keeps her hopes up. She keeps her heart occupied with love for him. But without a blink, her all struggling and suffering turned into a joke.
Her breath shakes as she hugs her knees, wondering what she is going to do. She doesn't have anyone in the world to rely on. Since she was a middle class family's daughter, she had to attend a normal University. She can't get a suitable job to meet her ends after the marriage.
However, her attention goes to the door when someone knocks on the door and speaks...
"Excuse me! It's Derek!"
Instantly standing up, she steps backwards, not actually imagine that he would be here right now. Immediately fixing her dress, she opens the door and walks towards her bed.
" Please excuse me." He said walking in.
Gwen scoffs finding it funny how he said excuse him. He doesn't even know her name even after Three years of marriage.
" Gwen Stacy, My name!" She snorts apathetically
Derek's eyebrows raise realizing that she has guessed it correct. He doesn't know her name.
" Shall we have a talk?" He speaks coldly but keeps a firm and respectful attitude toward her.
"For what.? Discussing about divorce?" She questions. Her voice echoes the fury which is increasing like volcano.
But why is she sounding so rude with this Man? She didn't want to be like that. She wanted to hug him as soon as he appeared in front of her. She thought she might cry and hug him and complain why he came late, she has been waiting for him for three years. But the cruel fate showed different scene, she is talking with him rudely, she is upset, So much upset with the person she adores.
"Seems like you are aware of this. When we got married, I told Mom that I will marry you for
Dad. I have been loving Maria since high school. So, I finally found her. Our marriage has no value"
He explains like the marriage, the three years was nothing but a part of his being a good son to his father.
"Was it ever?" She scoffs, glancing at Derek who shows zero remorse for his actions.
" What do you mean?"
"The Value you are talking about, Was it ever? To you or your family, I am just a middle class family's wh@re who can be used like a tool anytime. Marrying for your father? Is Marriage a joke to you? You have wasted three years of my life. Can you give me back my three years? I could have found a man who can cherish me. He wouldn't been a filthy rich but at least he would have treated me like a queen instead of a slave."
She speaks calmly yet her enraged voice echoes sharpness and pain of betrayal. "Please send the divorce paper. I don't want to stay here any
longer."
She said grabbing the dress she decided to wear to represent herself in front of Derek, her husband.
But she stops, facing Derek who is frowning. He has no know that he would see someone talking rudely to him. There is no suitable words to form and speaks out.
"I have been paying your Mom for the food she has been offering me to eat, by my daily
works. If you two aren't satisfied, please tell me how much money you spent for me, I will pay it slowly with interest"
Her words spout icily, grabbing Derek's attention. He watches her calculating something in her phone while speaking...
" Ms. Stacy. I don't want to keep things complicated for us. Let's just divorce. I will give you two million dollars and a car to-"
His eyes widen when she pushes him out of the room and gazes at him coldly.
" Fuck you!!!"
Slamming the door right on his face, She storms inside the washroom. Her heart is hurting more and more. His each word stabs her heart. Instead of feeling little bit of guilt, he is offering her money. Like she is some dog who will be happy to see food throwing onto her.
" I will never forgive you all. Never ever. How could do such a cruel thing?"
.....
Next morning...
Gwen's fingers absentmindedly traces the edge of her teacup, but her gaze lingers beyond the window, fixed on the horizon where the morning hues paint the sky. The aroma of freshly prepared breakfast still lingers in the air, a reminder of her routine tasks completed without any flaws. Yet, a heavy solitude envelopes her, distancing her from the once-familiar chatter and camaraderie. Despite her history of camaraderie with the servants, the air now seems tinged with an unspoken tension, their casual conversations now exchange with curt nods.
Sitting upon the swing chair, her silhouette blends into the morning light, but her thoughts seem adrift. Her eyes, focused on the vast expanse above, seem to be searching for answers among the billowing clouds. The heaviness in her heart screams in the distant stare. Her bleeding heart creates rainbow of emotions.
However, her attention goes to Anusha who pushes the door open, the creaking hinges announcing her arrival. Unperturbed by the lack of a polite knock, she enters the room, catching Gwen off-guard as she swiftly brushes away the remnants of tears. Gwen's face, now a portrait of composed neutrality, hides the turmoil within.
"Do you need something?" Gwen questions not liking the fact that Anusha didn't knock before entering.
"No. Can't I just come here?" Anusha's question carries an undertone of defiance, walking towards the chair, disregarding any formalities.
Gwen's fingers tighten around the fabric of her dress, a subtle response to the impending discomfort. However, her gaze remains unyielding, fixed upon Anusha, a silent challenge in her eyes.
"Sit down," Gwen gestures,
"Thank you. How are you?" Anusha speaks resting her back.
Gwen scoffs internally as Anusha's inquiry isn't laced with concern, but a subtle mockery.
"Fine," Gwen's response is clipped, giving away nothing more than the surface.
The room hangs heavy with unsaid words, Uncomfortableness lingers between them, especially Gwen who is unable to sort out of her feelings.
But She looks up as Anusha speaks "Well, when are you two going to get divorced?"
Gwen's grip tightens further, the fabric now creasing beneath her fingers. Despite this, her eyes remain unyielding, staring back at Anusha with a stern resolve, a silent refusal to engage in the conversation on such terms.
"Your lover knows it best. You should ask him," Gwen's retort, though measured, carries a weight of withheld emotions.
Anusha's attempt to shrug off the tension feels flat, "Oh. I thought you might know about it. Don't worry about it. He will marry you even if I don't divorce."
A faint tremor rippled through Gwen's demeanor, a barely perceptible reaction to Maria's words. "Are you upset with me? I swear I didn't know Derek still loves me,"
Gwen's response, curt yet controlled, sought to steer the conversation away from personal matters, "Does it matter? Can you please say what you want to say? If you are done, Please excuse me."
"OK. But don't think of stealing my Derek from me," Her attempt to clarify her intentions seems to fall on deaf ears.
"Ma'am, I am not a homewrecker," Gwen's voice stays steady and unwelded.
" How!!! How dare you! Gwen! You called me a homewrecker!!" She roars, slamming the low table.
" Please leave!"
Gwen's sigh echoes through the room, a lament for the sudden shift in her interactions with those around her. She has never before displayed such sharpness, such guardedness. The weight of hurt and betrayal seems to burden her, holding her emotions hostage.
She glances out at the vast expanse of the sky, seeking solace in its endlessness. The pain she felt, seems tangible, as if the very people who has caused it now stands as barriers upon her heart, casting shadows upon her once-open nature. She finds herself unable to believe the reality, yet, she can't help since the wounds are too fresh, the betrayal is too deep.
