Chapter 1 THE BEGINNING

AUTHOR'S POV

It was a windy day in the month of February due to the hurricane, and all the clocks were striking thirteen.

Tina lay on her bed, so tired, as the windy air blew into her room and sent shivers down her spine, yet she was still hot and fuming with anger. She felt like pouring down those annoying words and bad luck she had been experiencing on someone at that moment.

She glanced around the room from side to side as she stared at each and every newspaper scattered on the reading table, the floor, and on her bed as her eye came across job vacancies. She circled it out with a red pen.

As a matter of fact, she felt like she was cursed or was destined not to ever get a good opportunity in life. She was so unfortunate when it came to a lot of things, most especially getting a job, which was the main reason she was jobless at that moment.

She lost her parents in a gas accident when she was 11. She started fending for herself with the little she could do until her dad's brother took away her father's house and properties and she started living in the streets. To be sincere, street life was a living hell for her, given that she was a girl.

She tried so hard and got herself a scholarship in college that she didn't bother about her school fees except for her feeding and other necessities she needed.

After she graduated from college, she couldn't get a job, so she just had to find something to do to support herself. She barely fed, paid her rent, and couldn't cope. She would say she couldn't help herself, and at the time, she felt suicide was the best option. She not being able to fend for herself was the worst thing that happened to her.

She was sent out of the house on several occasions because of unpaid rent. She was so devastated. She cried so hard because no one was there to support me.

Then she came across an online job where she got the chance to answer surveys and get paid. She would say it was quite a good start. Everything was moving well until three months ago, when she didn't receive her pay from the online job she did. She just had to get a decent job.

Beep beep

She turned her head in the direction of her phone as she picked it up to find the caller.

She glanced at the phone screen and swiped the green icon as she brought the phone close to her ear.

"Hey Tina, What are you up to?" The caller spoke from the other side of the phone.

"Nothing much. Just checking out some newspapers; you know what she means, Nicole," she replied as she placed her left hand at the back of her neck, massaging it softly.

"I perfectly understands, but I thinks you need a break, Tina, you've stressed yourself out, and you need to take a break," Nicole says.

"Okay, so what are you suggesting that she do?" She can't just take a break like that, and you know the condition she is in right now. She has a lot on her mind; she needs a job.

Nicole has been a very good friend for the past seven years. They became close friends, and when their friendship got greater, they became best friends.

She is 21 years old, 5 feet tall, with perfect brown eyes, shoulder-length black hair, and very nice curves that could make anyone who stares at her go crazy and end up drooling with lust.

She tries her best not to bother her parents after they gifted her a house in Mexico.

Tina and Nicole graduated from the same college, though she wasn't as unlucky as she was, but she guessed she wasn't too lucky.

She works as a cosmetologist in a cosmetics industry outside the town. Nicole really helped her a lot. At the end of every month, she helps her with some dollars, and she really appreciates her kind gestures towards me, and she hopes to repay her some day, later in the future.

Nicole is more than a friend to her, she is her best friend and her sister.

She fought off anyone who tried to harm or trouble her, she was her fighter in this aspect. But out of all the good things she did, she was so unlucky in one thing. She would say that's how life disappoints everyone with the one thing they never wanted.

She has always wanted to find love.

She wanted someone to love her the way she was, but she never found that.

"Tina, are you there?" Nicole asked, as she became curious because she had been speaking to Tina over the phone, but she could not hear her response.

"Yeah, I'm still here."

Tina replied instantly.

"Oh my God,"

Nicole was so scared. She thought she was speaking in an empty space. "Where were you? you weren't replying to me." Nicole complained, knowing Tina's mind must have been in another world while she was on the phone with her.

"I'm so sorry, Nicole." She got carried away by her thoughts.

Tina apologised.

She couldn't believe her thoughts had taken her so far into wonderland.

"It's alright, with this act you just displayed, I suggest we go out and have some fresh air," Nicole says.

"Yeah, it looks like a good idea."

Tina says as Nicole smiles over the phone.

"But she can't go; I'm going to stay here at home and continue with her job hunt."

Tina couldn't finish her sentence before Nicole interrupted her immediately.

"Hey, babe, calm down; it's not like we are going somewhere we will get killed; we are just going to get some fresh air, that's all." And she also has a lot of stuff on her mind, and she really needs that fresh air, as Nicole tries to explain to her best friend.

"Okay, okay, okay. So where's the location?"

Chapter 2 THERE'S TROUBLE

TINA'S POV

"I won't tell you right now, that's going to be a surprise," Nicole says excitedly.

"Nicole, you know I hate surprises; just tell me where we are going!" I demanded it because I know Nicole is a partly high-class young lady, and I wouldn't go there if I knew exactly where Nicole was taking her.

"Trust me, you will love it," Nicole says with full assurance.

"Nicole, I don't care; I'm only going there because you forced me with your words to do so," I say as I demonstrate the meaning of my words, as if Nicole were there with her.

"Tina, I also don't care; all I know is that you should be prepared."

"I'll come over to pick you up by sunset," Nicole stated.

"Okay, I will do as you say," I replied, like a child subjecting myself to my mother.

"Tina remembers to wear something very nice, okay?" Nicole says.

"Hahahaha, something nice, well, I will. Are you happy now?" I asked.

"It's not funny, Tina, and I will be happy if you do as I say and not otherwise," Nicole states.

"Okay, I have heard you; I won't do otherwise," I said as I continued laughing at my best friend.

"Tina, I have to go now; I have something to attend to," Nicole says.

"Okay, bye, take care," I said.

"Yeah, take care of yourself too, and don't forget to eat," Nicole tells her.

"Sure, I will, bye," I said as I hung up.

I throw my phone beside me on the bed as I get up and lazily stroll to the bathroom to have my bath.

My eyes widened in bewilderment and surprise when I saw a vacancy for a secretary post in the Seamus Group of Companies in a magazine on the floor close to my bathroom. My heart couldn't contain my joy.

"This could be my last opportunity," I said to myself as I ran back to my computer, sat on the chair, and searched for the Seamus Group of Companies.

"Oh, my goodness!" I shouted, as what my eyes saw couldn't be explained.

Seamus's Group of Companies and specialty firms is an advertising and public relations industry that provides services in a series of disciplines: advertising, customer relationship management (CRM), public relations, branding, communication, digital marketing, direct and promotional marketing, experiential marketing, healthcare marketing, interactive marketing, and specialty services.

The services included in these disciplines are media planning and buying, digital and interactive marketing, sports and events marketing, field marketing, and brand. The Seamus Group was ranked as one of the four largest advertising agencies in the world by The New York Times.

Seamus Group was considered the second-largest advertising holding company by The Wall Street Journal. The company employs more than 77,000 employees in over 100 countries worldwide.

"How could they be in need of a secretary?" I asked myself that because it seemed somehow to her, but I took it as a way the Almighty wanted to show me that he works in different ways.

I minimized my search and opened my Gmail account and searched for my CV (curriculum vitae).

I carefully edited my already processed Curriculum Vitae along with my credentials. I made sure not to make a single mistake in my name, age, date of birth, or any of my information there.

I also processed another new application letter. I obviously thought I made some grammatical errors in my previous application letter that made other companies reject me. I made sure the new one that was made was really okay, so that anyone who read it would understand every single word. I also attached all my credentials, including my curriculum vitae and application letter, in a PDF to avoid confusion.

"Oh, my God, Tina, please be positive; I'm sending it now," I said to myself as I wanted to click the submit button.

I held my breath, closed my eyes tightly, and clicked on the submit button with my shaking fingers.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, I clicked the button; I sent it already," Tina exclaimed happily. I couldn't believe I was applying for a job in one of the biggest groups of companies. I actually thought it was a dream until I clicked that submit button and found out it wasn't a dream after all.

One thing that bothered me was my fate. If I could get rejected at those minor companies, what would be my fate at this major company?

"They probably wouldn't even glance at my application letter, hmmmm," I said to myself with assurance, as if I knew what they would do, but I spoke like that because of my previous experience.

Yet I still had that feeling that I would be accepted, no matter what, if I got this job.

"Lord, please, this is my last hope," I finally said as I clamped my hands to get me in a praying mode.

I hoped to get an email by Monday, since today was Wednesday. I felt like crying so badly that the interviewer would hear my cry from there and send me an email immediately, but let me remain positive.

I turned off my system, stood up, and headed straight to the bathroom to take a shower and have a good rest.

"Nicole was actually right; I needed to get some fresh air," I said to myself as I let go of the towel on my chest and turned on the shower. The thought of having a drink came to my mind as I gave a broad smile, showing off my dimples.

IN SEAMUS GROUP OF COMPANIES

"Shares of Seamus Group of Companies (NYSE: OMC) fell around 2% on Thursday morning, after the marketing and communications company reported third-quarter 2021 results. But as per usual, Seamus's top and bottom lines continued to edge higher on a year-over-year basis despite the negative effects of foreign currency and a stubborn macroeconomic headwind. "How will Seamus's CEO take this news and how will this be fixed?" Miss Janice, a New York television newscaster, reads out of the magazine as employees in the company carefully listen to each and every word Miss Janice reads out, as everyone is tensed up about the new record that was reported about their company.

"Oh my God, there is a big problem."

Chapter 3 FAKE PROMOTION

IN JORDAN COSMETIC INDUSTRY

Thump

"Come in," Nicole says as Susan Johnson, the director's own associate, strolls into her office.

"How may I help you?" Nicole inquired.

"Good day, Miss Nicole. You are required in the director's office at this moment," Susan said, passing the administrator message to her.

"OK, I will be there shortly." Nicole expresses tranquility as Susan gestures to her head and heads out of the workplace.

"Tina, I need to go now; I have something to take care of," Nicole says.

"OK, bye, be careful," Tina says.

"Better believe it, deal with yourself as well, and remember to eat," Nicole tells her.

"Sure, I will. Bye," Tina says as she hangs up.

Nicole Scott is a 21-year-old woman who works as a dermatologist and also serves as the managing director of the Jordan Cosmetics company.

She has been in the industry for three years, thanks to her parents, Mr. Bradley and Mrs. Irene Scott, who assisted her in obtaining the position.

"Why would the Chairman want to see me in the middle of the night?"

"I just hope everything is fine," Nicole said as she stood up from her chair, arranged her hair, and got properly dressed.

She finally leaves her office and goes to the chairman's office.

The doorbell rings.

Nicole continues to knock as she receives no response; she begins to suspect that Susan is playing with her, but Susan would never do such a thing.

Mr. Gilbert Jordan, the chairman and owner of Jordan Cosmetic Industry, a 58-year-old man of average height, was on the phone when he heard the knock on his office door.

"I'll call you back in an hour or so, okay," he says to the person on the phone before hanging up and placing the phone on his desk.

"Yes, come in," Mr. Gilbert says as the door slowly opens and Nicole walks in.

"Mr. Gilbert, you sent for me," Nicole says, perplexed as to why the chairman had sent for her.

It was so uncalled for that, despite the fact that the Chairman and her parents were friends, he never once summoned her.

Nicole, on the other hand, never went to him; all information from him was passed through Susan, as was all information from the employees; it was completely unnecessary.

"I sent for you, Miss Nicole."

"Please take a seat," Mr. Gilbert says as he motions to the chair in front of him.

"Mr. Gilbert, is everything all right?" Nicole inquired of the chairman.

"Yes, everything is fine."

"Don't worry about it; just relax, okay?" As Nicole sat down, the chairman's gaze traveled around her body.

Something was wrong here; with the way the chairman kept staring at her, she was convinced the old man was up to no good.

Mr. Gilbert picks up a file and hands it to her; she had no idea, but she was so tense when she collected the file and quickly stood up to leave his office.

"Not yet, return," Mr Gilbert said to me.

She suspected he was up to no good.

"Chairman, is there anything else you would like to tell me?" Nicole posed her question with assurance, but she was secretly terrified-and she had no idea why.

"Is everything okay, Miss Nicole?" You appear to be rushing, so please take a seat. She was requested to sit down, and Mr. Gilbert gestured for her to do so by pointing to the same chair she had been sitting on moments earlier.

While the chairman continued to fixate on her from head to toe, Nicole walked in and sat down to wait to hear what he had to say.

"Why is he staring at me like that?" Nicole questioned herself as she made an effort to compose herself.

"Open the file," the chairman commanded, as quickly she picked up the file from her laps and opened it.

After which, she brought out the document that was inside.

"You can read, right?" He asked again, and I felt uncomfortable with his eyes all over me.

"Yes, sir, I can read," she replied, wondering why she would not know how to read; apart from being scared, she really wanted to know what was written inside the document, but certainly not here in his office. But what can she do?

"Read it," he commanded, and immediately she started reading what was written inside the document.
