"AHHHHH!" Panting, Jenny woke up from her nightmare. The door opened soon enough and the light in her room was turned on.
"Hey, are you okay?" Sasha approached her friend and sat on the side of the bed. "Did you dream again?"
Jenny nodded softly as she sweated and trembled while hugging her knees. "I was too young, back then. I should've forgotten about it. But why is everything still so clear in my mind? It's so unfair!"
She comforted her crying friend. "If you have no memory of your past, can you give justice to the death of your parents?"
"But that won't bring them back to life!" She growled at her friend and vented her anger at her.
"Are you giving up?" Sasha asked sadly.
She quickly wiped away the tears and shook her head. "No. I've come this far to just give up."
"Good. You are about to carry out your plan of revenge. We're midway. A little more patience."
Jenny looked up at the friend she had leaned on for a long time. She met her mother, who she considered as her second mother. Those times, she was so lost without any direction to take. They lived in a street too and she was adopted, even though they had no home of their own. "Thank you for always being there."
"Don't mention it." She took the pitcher over to the bedside table and poured water into the glass. "Drink first to calm down."
"Thank you." She said shortly. When Jenny finished drinking, she put it back on the bedside table.
"Go back to sleep. I will stay here with you."
Jenny gave her friend a big hug before going back to bed. She closed her eyes until drowsiness pulled her away. Sasha's presence helped her sleep well.
"Aren't you hungry yet?" Sasha asked her dazed friend who was sitting.
Jenny was recalling the past and only came back to her senses when Sasha came over and sat down next to her. "I'm full."
"You only ate a little. You might get sick." Sasha rebuked her.
Jenny refocused her gaze into the distance and did not reply to Sasha.
"What are you thinking again?"
"Nothing. Just don't worry about me." She replied emotionlessly to Sasha.
Sasha sighed as she stared at her friend's sad face. "Fill your stomach before we leave."
Jenny glanced at the watch she was wearing. They have already planned to leave and go to Manila. A few years had passed since she left the city where she grew up together with Sasha and her mother. She met two who, like her, were also wandering the streets. She had nowhere to go nor a place to live in. But still, God sent her to them and she started a new life.
She thought that she would be able to forget her complicated and painful past forever. But it was like a shadow of her young mind.
She grew up with so much hatred in her heart. Until she planned revenge. And her friend knew her plans.
"Take care. Especially you, Kailani..." Nimfa talked to the two ladies.
Jenny winced from her seat. She was still not accustomed to her new name as Kailani. She watched Sasha's mother who entered the small living room holding the tray containing some bread and a steaming drink.
"Even if you hide from me the real reason for your departure, I know I can't stop you. I will just pray for your safety." Nimfa said sadly when neither of the two spoke.
Jenny and Sasha glanced at each other. Perhaps the old woman heard them talking about the matter.
"Kailani, don't let your anger get the better of you." She sat across them. "God has mercy. I never stop praying that justice will be done for your deceased parents."
"Yes, Mother Nimfa. Thank you for everything." Jenny said gratefully.
"Wait, will we never meet again? Why are you thanking me?" Nimfa joked with the young lady to alleviate her sadness.
Smiling, she took her second mother's hand and squeezed it. "I should say that every day because the time may come when I will lose the opportunity."
"What are you saying, child? You will come back here together still. Do you understand?" She instructed the two.
"Of course, Mom!" Sasha said quickly and hugged her mother. "You know Kailani is always like this. She's just dramatic. Let's eat."
Jenny understood her friend's meaningful glance at her. She just didn't want their mother to worry about them.
"Looks like what you prepared today is delicious, eh?" Sasha changed the subject. "What is this? Farewell party?" Sasha joked with her mother.
"Those are just bread!" Nimfa glared at her daughter.
The two laughed together with the old woman.
"Eat a lot."
"A lot? But there are only four pieces?" Sasha complained to her mother.
Nimfa laughed, followed by the two. They will surely miss such scenes. Even though their lives have been on a roller coaster, they were happy when they were together.
...
"WELCOME back to your hometown!" James's cheerful face greeted Shasha and Jenny.
Only Sasha responded to James' warm greeting, who picked them up at NAIA. Jenny ignored him and immediately went straight to the car.
"Did I say something wrong?" James asked Sasha in a whisper.
"Jet lag," Sasha said to the young man.
"But I'm telling you, don't dream or even fantasize about her. Zero chance. Believe me."
"Here you go again," James complained to his childhood friend. The three met when they stepped into high school. They also went to college together. They were inseparable, even when they started training for combat.
They were not assassins. They only prepared themselves to fulfill Jenny's wish to bring justice to the death of her parents. They were friends, after all. One's fight was everyone's fight.
"Are you giving up?" Sasha teased the young man when he fell silent.
James flicked Sasha's forehead, which made her frown. "I will not give up because I also have nothing to fight for."
"What a pity. I like you for Kailani. You seem like a good pair." Sasha whispered as she caressed her forehead that the young man's finger had hit.
James shrugged before answering his friend. "But she doesn't like me. What can I do?"
The two went to the parking lot where James parked his car, while continuing the conversation.
"Maybe she's not satisfied with your efforts." Sasha suddenly thought of a reason for him.
The young man sneered and shook his head. "How is it unsatisfying? Huh! You probably know the great danger I face at work for her, don't you?" James replied boastfully.
"Just kidding. You're so serious." The two fell silent when they got into the car where Jenny was already in the backseat. And they remained silent until they arrived at the house where they were temporarily staying.
"Is this place okay with you?" James asked his friends.
"You made a good choice," Jenny replied. "Away from the neighbors, isolated and it seems safe here."
James secretly felt delight even in that simple compliment from her.
"Aren't you having a hard time with your job?" Jenny asked the young man.
"There is no job that is not difficult, Kailani." James joked with her because she was too serious. From the start, he knows everything about her true identity. He just used to call her second name.
"Looks like you're getting used to being with them, eh? What if they get your heart?" Jenny commented on her friend's work.
"I will not turn around. Work is just work." His sincere response to her.
"Good. Just be careful. Once they know your true identity, you only have one place to go to. Cemetery." Jenny said half-jokingly.
James nodded. "I'll go ahead. They might be looking for me. Just call me if you need anything else."
"Thank you." Jenny thanked James again.
James became more delighted when Jenny smiled at him. It rarely happened that he thought it was impossible.
Exhausted from the trip, Jenny immediately fell asleep even though there was still daylight. But the nightmare of the past visited her again. Dazed, she recalled what happened ten years ago. Even though she was traumatized and did not speak, she could hear the noise around her and could process them in her mind.
"Hey..."
Jenny came back to her senses when her friend tapped her shoulder.
"Why are you so quiet?" Sasha asked.
Jenny looked back into the distance. She was just getting some air on the porch. And she can't help herself from recalling her past. She had always been like that when she was alone.
"Are you thinking about your parents again?" Sasha inquired after sitting in the vacant seat.
"They are not easy to forget."
"I know. But aren't you torturing yourself too much?" She asked Jenny worriedly.
"I'm not complaining." She replied aloofly to her friend. She got like that when thinking of the past.
"But you are sad every time you think of them."
"It's normal for someone who lost her parents, especially in a horrible death," her emotionless reply to Sasha.
"Stop. Let's not talk about them. Anyway, what's our next move?" Sasha changed the subject.
"I want to know if my cousin and Aunt still live in our house."
"Wanna visit them?" Sasha asked her.
"Not today. I still need to prioritize something."
"Is it still part of our plan?" Sasha pestered her with questions.
"It's personal." Jenny said shortly.
"Are you keeping a secret from me?" Sasha asked, upset.
"Of course not. I'll just tell you once I've sorted things out." She quickly explained to her friend.
"Just always remember that your fight is also my fight." Sasha reminded her. She was not used to Jenny keeping a secret from her.
"I will keep that in mind." Jenny replied, as if surrendering.
"Anyway, James called."
"What's up?" Suddenly, there was eagerness in Jenny's voice.
"It's good news. The person you have been waiting for has arrived. Are you ready to face each other?"
Jenny laughed sarcastically. "I have long prepared myself for the day we meet again."
"Yes. You look excited." Sasha joked with her.
Jenny just smiled at her friend. But it was not excited that she felt, but the rise of intense anger at the person who took the life of her parents.
A shadow carefully traversed the backyard of Villa Garcia and successfully crossed the other side. The guard guarding the gate was asleep and only a few maids were still awake at that time.
The oldness of the house can be seen from the moonlight. It was large, with a wide garden. It had a picture of perfection, so as the whole villa. It was his mother's design.
Jenny couldn't help but cry as her eyes stared at the home she had left for so long.
She remembered well how she was pampered in that house when her father and mother were still alive. She missed them like how she missed her life at the villa. If only the past could be brought back. She'll be the happiest person in the world if she can hug and see her parents again.
Jennifer wiped away the tears. Even if blood stream down her face, her repeated wish would not happen. What she can do for her deceased parents was to avenge them.
The lady carefully treaded towards the backdoor. She still knew every way around the house.
"Make sure you close the windows and doors..."
She quickly hid behind the tall plants when she saw the three maids.
"There are many house-climbing gangs now. What if robbers break into the house." Voice from another maid Jenny didn't know.
That was a good opportunity for Jenny. Her effort would not be in vain.
"Tell the guards to patrol all around. They are probably sleeping again." A command from someone who seemed to be in a higher position.
Jenny didn't know who was ordering, but she was sure it was the butler.
"Darn!" she cussed when she heard the sound of the door locking near her. She found another way to get in, but the maids were quicker.
"Ugh! I thought I was lucky. But I won't give up. I will make sure that the next time I come back, I will get the things that are for me." Jenny talked to herself.
When Jenny left the place, she thought of going to a bar first. She needed some liquor to lessen her sadness and longing for her parents.
...
"WHO is that woman you're looking at?" Dexter asked Yazed.
Yazed glanced at his friend who asked before shrugging.
"You don't know, but you stare like you want her." Dexter commented. He noticed how his friend glanced at the woman who was alone at the other table.
He laughed at Dexter's comment. "And what do you think of me, a drunkard?"
"Sort of." Dexter answered shortly.
"Stupid," he said, moderately pushing Dexter who was laughing. "Did you just come to annoy me? You haven't really changed?"
"Hey, I'm a lawyer. Show me some respect." Dexter complained, but he was grinning.
"And I'm your client. I am the one paying you." He reminded Dexter.
The two laughed at the same time, then raised their glasses.
"Cheers!"
Yazed's gaze refocused on where the woman was. It was obvious that she had drunk a lot of alcohol.
"Looks like she has a big problem," Dexter commented. "Approach her."
"Why should I?"
"Don't pretend, she's obviously your type."
"Stop teasing me." Yazed suddenly became serious.
"If you say so. Are you okay with others getting ahead?" Dexter jokingly threatened him.
"We didn't come here just to seek for that kind of fun."
The two looked in the woman's direction as she created a commotion due to the approach of some men.
Yazed watched how the woman who caught his attention reacted. He furrowed his forehead when the woman pouted and frowned as she looked up at the man standing in front of her. He did not like how she acted because she looked especially attractive in the eyes of the perverted man. He suddenly recalled something that intensified his desire to take her away from danger.
"Oh, where are you going?" Dexter asked when he suddenly stood up.
Yazed seemed to hear nothing and walked straight to where the woman was. He didn't like the man holding the arm of the woman, so he quickly intervened.
"Dude, don't force someone who doesn't want to come with you." Yazed spoke loudly so that the man could clearly hear because the music around was loud.
"Don't interfere with us!" the man scolded Yazed and he was obviously drunk.
"You're forcing the person who doesn't want to come with you so I just have to intervene!" Yazed's voice was also full of anger.
"Why? Do you know her?" the arrogant man asked Yazed sarcastically.
Jenny's gaze shifted to the two men arguing. She can knock down the man who dared to take her home, but he had another one with him, thus it was a little unfair to her because she was still a woman. She stared at the man acting like a hero. He was handsome and looked unaccustomed to fighting, unlike the two men who were obviously lusting on her body.
"No, why, do you know her?" Yazed asked the same question.
"We found her first, so find another one to satisfy you!" the man gave Yazed a death glare.
Jenny was enraged at the last thing the rude man said. Even though she drunk, she was still on her right mind.
"Ahh!"
Yazed's intention to slap the man's hand when he tried to touch the woman was thwarted because he screamed in pain. Surprised, he turned his gaze to the woman because she was able to hurt the rogue. The man was not prepared for the kick, so he was badly hit. She was now standing in front of them like a tiger.
"What did you say?" Jenny asked the man angrily. "Satisfy? Geez! You're gravely mistaken!"
The man recovered from the pain after Jenny kicked his sensitive part of the body.
"You, bitch! You are brave, huh?" The man's companion angrily cussed the woman and approached her.
The woman did not give them a chance to retaliate. She gave them what they deserved. She quickly kicked his knee and punched the other man's face at the same time. Yazed just stared at the woman in amazement. He had never seen such a woman with strength even when drunk.
"Strange woman," Dexter whispered to his stunned friend. "I guess, she's kind of your type."
"Yeah. You're right." Yazed answered subconsciously, but immediately took it back when he realized it. "What?! I mean, no! I don't like a woman with a strength of a man."
Dexter laughed at his friend's reaction. "Still pretending, but you can't deceive me. You're stuttering." He teased him.
Yazed couldn't answer when the woman accidentally hugged him because one of the opponents pushed her. The two stared at each other, while in a position where their bodies were so close. With their eyes locked, they caught a glimpse of something that seemed to be a familiar spark that they could not explain.
"Not bad," Jenny said softly after averting her eyes first.
Yazed was about to ask a question, but the woman suddenly let go of his embrace.
Jenny quickly dodged the opponent's blow which, as a result, hit Yazed.
"Oops! Sorry, handsome!" she apologized and smiled. She looked at her opponents again. "You messed with the wrong person!"
The fight continued, two against one. No one wanted to lose nor stop. Jenny leaped to the other table so that the two could not attack her.
"Bro, are you okay?" Dexter asked his friend who was punched. Even he was surprised at what happened and the woman's quick actions. Yazed wanted to help her, but the situation was reversed and he was the one who needed help.
"Fuck!" Yazed cursed and touched his jaw that was hit by the opponent's punch. He angrily grabbed the man's collar before he could get close to the woman and punched him in the face to retaliate.
Dexter also helped beat the opponent so they looked miserable.
The commotion only stopped when the manager and the security guard arrived. The man's face was grimacing and bloody while the woman did not have a single scar. Yazed admired her even more. Dexter took care of the damages that had to be paid and the two were thrown out so as not to cause any more trouble. When Yazed saw that the woman had also come out, he followed her out of concern that she might be ambushed by the insane men outside.
"Hey, we're not done inside yet." Dexter stopped Yazed when he turned around as well.
"You can go back or you can go home." Yazed replied nonchalantly.
"And you?"
"I can handle myself."
"Looks like your interest is caught. That's good news. At least I know you're not gay." Dexter laughed jokingly.
He glared at Dexter and was not pleased with his joke.
"Okay." Dexter raised his hands in surrender. "Good luck to you. Do your best!"
Yazed shook his head and left him. He followed the woman who can't walk well. And he hurriedly came to her side when she almost tripped. For the second time, their eyes meet. And they were once again frozen with their bodies touching.
"Hey, Mister. Are you following me?" Jenny rebuked the man.
"And why would I follow you?" Yazed answered in hostility.
"Well..." She distanced herself a little from the man, "Because you look at me in a different way."
Yazed catched the woman again as she almost lost her balance. "Look at you. Next time, don't drink more than you can take."
"Thank you, handsome." She smiled in gratitude to the man. She didn't know why, but she suddenly felt like flirting with the man. Even though she was drunk, she still knew what she was doing.
Jenny suddenly remembered why she was in that place now. She thought the man could be the solution to her plan. She didn't want to embark on the mission while still a virgin. She would rather lose it to a stranger.
Yazed didn't know how to react to the seemingly flirtatious woman.
"I'm sorry, a while ago your handsome face got dirty because of me." Her eyes were charming as she stared at the man and smiled at him.
"Stop flirting with a stranger." Instead of being attracted, Yazed was not pleased with the woman's open flirtation with him. Even though he didn't know her, he knew she wasn't like the other women.
Jenny laughed and her desire to attract him only grew. Even though she just met him, she felt comfortable with him. If it was a different man like the two before, he probably would have hit on her and took her somewhere dark.
"You are drunk. Is there no one to pick you up?" Yazed changed the subject and avoided looking at the beautiful shape of the woman's body. She was wearing a hanging blouse that protruded from her narrow waist and navel. Her pants perfectly fitted her slender legs. His hand inevitably touched her chest earlier when he supported her and hugged her.
"I can go home alone. But..." she paused for a while and leaned on the strong chest of the man. "You can take me too."
Yazed shook his head as he made her stand straight. "Can't you compose yourself? What if you were with another man today? You will definitely get hurt." He scolded her.
"And thank you because I found you. I'm so lucky." She was seemingly proud and she pressed herself even harder on the man.
He suddenly felt a strange heat due to the woman's tight hug. He could also feel her breasts, pressing hard against him.
"I want to go with you." She mumbled and closed her eyes while her weight fell onto the man.
Yazed quickly catched the woman and she looked like she can't handle herself due to drunkenness. "Oh, darn! You're heavy!"
Jenny heard him cursing. But she can no longer open her eyes or move her body.
"What am I doing? I should've just left you!"
Jenny only growled in response.
"Ha! Now I have to take responsibility!" He carried the drunk woman. It's good that his car was nearby.
"Wait. Where am I supposed to take her?" Yazed asked himself as he sat in the driver's seat. The man saw a card holder peeking slightly into the pocket of the drunken woman's pants.
"Kailani Monuz," he read on one of the IDs. Yazed didn't find an address on any of the card. Mostly, ATMs and privilege cards from department stores and shopping malls were there. So he just took her to a hotel.
"Sir, do you know each other?" asked the woman at the reception.
"Huh?" He glanced at the woman on his back, their cheeks were almost touching. "Uh, my girlfriend. She can't go home drunk."
"Sir..."
He noticed the suspicion on the receptionist's face. "Look, Miss. If you think I am not a trustworthy person, you can check my background. But for now, let me put her down first. She's too heavy."
"Okay, sir." The receptionist nearly panicked when she saw the card held by the young man. It was rare to have such a card and only the rich were able to have one.
He took the key that the woman handed him and went to one of the elevators to the room they were going to occupy. Yazed didn't care about the people's stares. He just wanted to rest his back. He felt like he carried two sacks of rice, even though the woman was small. In his whole life, it was his first time to carry something heavy, and it was a woman.
He dropped the still unconscious woman on the bed. She growled and moved, but did not even open her eyes.
"This woman is careless!" Yazed adjusted her drooping legs. "What's with you? I'm not like this to others."
Jenny moaned again and moved. She put her arm around the man's neck when he was about to put a blanket on her.
"Darn!" Yazed cussed. He almost fell on the woman's face. And with them only a few inches away from each other, he couldn't help but stare at her reddened lips that seemed even more seductive because she was pouting.
"Hey, are you awake?" He gently tapped the woman on the cheek.
"Kiss me..." Jenny pouted even more while keeping her eyes closed.
Yazed's finger pushed the woman's face and get away from her. "Don't be abusive!"
Jenny just moaned and frowned.
"Hey, wake up!" Yazed flicked her forehead.
Her eyelids felt heavy as she opened her eyes. "Why are you disturbing me?" She knit her brows.
"I'm your savior, so be grateful. If it weren't for me, you would have had a place with the drunken men at the bar."
"Then let me repay you with a kiss."
Yazed stared again at her pouty lips. He wanted to give in to temptation. But he controlled himself. He's not the type of a man that would take advantage of a drunk woman. She was not in her right mind. He also suddenly remembered the daughter of his mother's friend who liked to pout when she was annoyed or did not have what she wanted. Its been years pass but he can't forget the cuteness of that kid.
"What are you waiting for?" Jenny asked impatiently to the man. "Ah! You want me to take the first move?" Jenny suddenly pulled the man by the hand and immediately wrapped her hands around his neck.
Yazed quickly covered his lips with his palm, thus her lips were stopped there. "Are you like that with all the men you want to thank?" He asked the woman angrily instead of being pleased with what she was doing.
"Only to special people. And because you are my savior, you're special to me." Jenny ignored the man's anger. Her confidence in her mission diminished because she didn't look attractive in this man's eyes.
Yazed backed away again when the woman's hand was about to touch him. She was obviously under the influence of alcohol. "I brought you here because I don't know where to take you. Do you want to go home? I can offer you a ride." His voice became soft when he noticed that her face was sad.
"No." Jenny answered quickly and slumped onto the bed. "I don't want to go home. There's no reason for that either." She replied sadly to the man.
Yazed felt concerned for the woman because they were both longing for someone. It was so sad every time he came home. There's no one waiting for him. Unlike before when he arrived home, his mother will greet him.
"You can stay here if you want. I already paid for this room." Yazed thought as a solution so that the woman would not be sad anymore.
"Hey!" in a loud voice, she called to the man as he turned away without saying goodbye.
He stopped walking, turned, and raised his eyebrows to the persistent woman.
"Are you going to leave me here alone?" She asked the man in a sullen tone.
"And what do you want me to do? You don't want to go home." It looked like Yazed's short patience was about to end again.
"Stay here. Stay with me first." Jenny childishly asked the man.
"Is that how you trust someone you just met? First of all, we don't know each other. And second, you are a woman. You should know when to trust men." Yazed scolded her.
"You don't look like those rude drunks," Jenny referred to the men she fought against in the bar. "Stay with me first."
"I need to go." Yazed's tone of voice was flat.
"Are you married?" Jenny annoyed the man and ignored his disregard for her beauty.
"No."
"Do you have a girlfriend?" Jenny asked again.
"No," Yazed didn't know why he responded so quickly. His tongue wasn't that talkative. "Why do you have so many questions?" he was suddenly irritated by the woman's persistence when he realized his activeness in the nonsense questions she asked him.
"Come here." She seductively signaled with her index finger for the man to come closer. "Sit here next to me and I'll whisper the answer to you."
Yazed couldn't restrain himself. He seemed to be hypnotized by her because he immediately obeyed her command.
When he sat down next to the woman, she suddenly kissed him on the lips. But instead of protesting or getting angry, he was like a statue that didn't have the ability to move.
Yazed knew instantly that the woman was inexperienced. So when she stopped, he couldn't stop himself from laughing.
