Chapter 1 01

Devon Carter finished playing the video game and watching yet another new movie. He's so boooooored, it's not even funny.

This is exactly why he didn't take the fucking leave when it came, that's why he left it to become long overdue.

But after the last mission, the boss was determined to let their team have their rest for at least two months before they resume stronger and well-rested. At thirty-three, he works for a very private top-notch Extract and Rescue Organisation (EXO). He kicks asses and saves people for a living.

Yeah, definitely an adrenaline rush.

He snorted mentally. Yeah, fucking-right. The only way they're gonna return is crazy and half-insane.

One month has passed already, and Devon is counting for the remaining month. He's tired of the vacation.

He's visited all his four sisters and their husbands, and he's spent time with his mother who's staying with their eldest sister, Carmen, who's the only person older than him.

He'd gone on a tour in Jeju Island, and he'd visited clubhouse more than a whore on promo.

He got up again and went out to the barn. Since he has nothing to do, he can help the workers feed the livestock.

An hour later, his cellphone rang. He picked up the unknown number.

"Hello, baaaaaaibe." Came the sultry voice.

Devon shook his head. He really doesn't need this right now. "Anne."

"Yes, baby. Can I come over?"

"Nope. I'm outside town. I'll call you when I get back." He lied.

"Oh...." Her disappointment was apparent. "Okay. Call me."

"Sure." He hung up. Anne is only but one of the one-night stands he's had since he got back to Wyoming, Texas.

Only, Anne doesn't want to leave him alone. The woman doesn't understand the word 'I'm not interested.'

He sighed and went back to feeding the chickens.

Hell, he's very bored, dammit.

"I don't know what to do, Yenna," Raniella said to her friend, pausing her typing on the desktop in front of her.

In her office on the highest floor of the skyscraper, she sat behind her desk trying to get a job done since morning.

It has proven impossible because she can't forget the call from her mother last night.

Yenna sighed, shifting the files she has on her hands to rest on the other hand. "Maybe you should just go home alone and tell your mother that you and 'your man' broke up a few days ago, and that's why you ain't back home with him."

"And endure long hours of advice? The pity looks?" Raniella threw her perfectly manicured hands up in the air, "she'll start sending me books again on 'how to catch a big fish, you know my mother."

Yenna does know Mrs. Gomez very well. She's been friends with Raniella for the past three years....that's how long she's been her manager.

Yenna took a seat opposite her friend. "What are you going to do, Ella?"

Raniella sighed. "You just asked me a question I've been asking myself since last night, I don't know what to do."

Yenna's head was working, thinking alternatives. "And you can't just go to a club and snag a guy tonight right?"

"My family knows I've been dating this 'guy' for the past six months. Any man I snatch now from the club won't convince my parents at all. He'll practically be a stranger." Raniella got up from her chair restlessly and walked towards the window.

"Besides, you know I'm not really good at those; going to a club, snatching a guy." She finished.

"Hell yeah. You suck at one-night stands." Yenna agreed.

"That's because the last one stole my gold wristwatch and made away with my brand-new laptop."

"That's like what? One year ago?"

"Two." Raniella corrected her friend softly.

"Jesus. That's a long dry spell."

"Tell me about it. Anyway, I'm not interested in all those now, I have a business to keep running and I've got George at home to keep me from getting bored."

Yenna snorted. "Yeah, right. Why don't George escort you to see your parents since he's such a good company?"

Raniella gave her a mock glare. "Don't insult my dog, you wicked witch."

Yenna took a deep breath. "You're my friend, Ella, and I love you so much, but I have to agree with your mother a little bit. You're too uptight, and you don't even know how to live a life."

Her back stiffened. "I love my life the way it is, Yenna."

Yenna knows the familiar defensive pose and raised her hand in surrender. "Alright, alright. No need going all soldier on me, I get it, best friend."

Raniella relaxed and faced the window again, overlooking the building.

Yenna stared at her friend. Blond hair packed tightly in a bum on top of her hair, well-ironed blue business suit, and black stilettoes. There's no hair out of place. No dirt on the table. Everywhere is well arranged. No disorganization.

That's exactly her best friend, Ella.

Ella is a typical example of a no-nonsense, prim and proper lady. At twenty-eight, she's a beauty to behold, rich and successful.

But, her friend is too serious about life. After what happened with Garrett, it became worse.

Yenna wishes for that to change. She wished for there to be a way for her friend to loosen up a bit, let go of some things and try to enjoy life a bit.

"Oh, Yenna. What the hell am I going to do?" Raniella groaned again.

An idea was starting to form in Yenna's mind.

A very crazy idea.

Chapter 2 02

Later that night, Devon opened his laptop to make sure there's been no emergency that he missed. He always checked....always.

He was on the verge of checking when an advert popped up. He started clicking on the 'X at the top. of the screen but the content of the ad stopped him.

𝗔 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗘𝗗! 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧.

A groom needed? Seriously? Devon can't begin to imagine such. Who would wanna run an ad like this?

He found himself clicking on it and was redirected.

The next twenty minutes he spends reading from the site and knowing about the ad.

Her name is Raniella. No last name. Twenty-eight years old. No pictures.

She needs a man to pretend to be her man, escort her to her sister's wedding, spend the weekend with her family and act like they're very much in love.

Devon's brows shot up when he saw the ridiculous amount of money the woman was offering as payment too.

"What the hell...?" He went ahead reading.

She provides accommodation for the man to stay and practice getting to know her and all the other shits.

He sat back and thought about this while eating his crackers.

"Wow, whoever this woman is must be as ugly as an ape and as fat two fridges joined together with a head attached in between." He groaned aloud.

She must be because a beautiful presentable woman wouldn't need to 'hire' a man to get such a job done.

He looked around his big empty living room. The house screamed 'boring' and 'barren' so loud it's not even funny.

He needed the fun and the 'different' experience. Hell, he needed the change of environment and scenario too. What better way to spend the remains of the month than this?

Even if it means hanging around a plump ugly twenty-eight-year-old who can't bang a man naturally without paying for him.

He seriously hopes there'll never be a condition where he'll have to hug the woman or-God forbid-kiss the woman because while he's tired of boredom, he isn't ready to die from revulsion.

What the hell will he tell his God when he gets up there?

He threw another cracker to his mouth and click on the 'Apply' button. He went down to put all the necessary details....

Yenna took in the man who sauntered into her office that early in the morning and decided that she made a good choice picking him.

She'd put up that advert on the net, and it was really crazy. She'd just done it impulsively. She didn't know anybody would turn up, but lots of men answered the Ad.

The man that stood in front of her now, staring at her so casually is so handsome, Yenna didn't know she was staring blatantly until the man smiled knowingly.

"So, you're Raniella?" The man spoke for the first time, his deep voice blatant and oh-so-sexy. "I'll have to say that you're nothing like I expected."

Yenna restrained herself from checking him out again, instead, she arched her brow. "What did you expect, Mr. Carter?"

He grinned, showing a white set of teeth. "Plump. Ugly as a dunk. Face like a horror movie character."

She let out startled laughter. "Well, that's blunt enough. You, Mr.. Carter is a funny character."

Together, they laughed about it. Yenna wondered what this man would think if he sees Ella. Too bad, she wouldn't be there.

"Actually, I'm not Raniella. I'm just her manager."

He frowned immediately. "You aren't?"

"I'm not. My name is Yenna." She confirmed, smiling.

Devon looked regretful. He should have known that it's too much to expect the woman to look as hot as this one sitting behind the desk.

"Well, it's nice meeting you Yenna. Where can I find your boss?" He might as well get it over with.

On the bright side, he can always take the next flight back to Texas if the sight of the woman turns out to be too much of a nightmare.

"Oh...!" Yenna picked up a card from the desk and handed it over to him, "That's her house address. It's Friday today. That's the only day she comes in late, so can go right to her place."

"She's expecting me?" He took the card and put it in his breast pocket.

Yenna smiled easily, "Definitely." She lied.

"Alright, thanks." He shook her hand, "It's nice meeting you again."

"You too, Mr. Carter." Yenna watched the man leave and she sighed dreamily.

Too bad she's engaged to the love of her life, she thought with a smile. She would have given him her best shot.

The truth is that Raniella is unaware of all these, and she can just imagine her friend's reaction when she finds out, which is soon enough.

She grimaced at the thought of it.

Well, on the other hand, her friend gets to spend time with an incredibly handsome dude. That's definitely a bonus.

Chapter 3 03

Raniella had woken up twice in the middle of the night with thoughts of what to do. She didn't get enough sleep.

God, she really dug the hole deep for herself.

The worst part is, if she came outright to say that she doesn't have a man, her mother will take it upon herself to get her one. Again.

She'll start with arranging blind dates. Giving her advice and trying to run her life. Again.

While her mother is pretty harmless and very sweet-natured, but, she can be reeeeally persistent and Raniella really doesn't need that again.

What is so wrong in wanting to live her life without a man in it and the stress of having him?

Okay, so her life is pretty boring and so what? She's a pretty boring person, so that fits. Right?

Too bad, she'd have to keep trying to lie when there are so many people trying to run your life for you at the same time. For example, her family.

And so, when she heard her doorbell ring, she groaned. She really doesn't need this now. She doesn't want to face the day today and have to deal with her problems.

She turned to the other side of the bed and sighed into her sleep.

A doorbell came again, followed by a knock on the door.

She woke up and got out of bed. She almost stumbled on her dog but caught herself at the last minute.

"George, get up from the ground." She groaned, walking back to him.

George got up dutifully and followed her out. She made her way downstairs to the door and flung it open, still trying to get her eyes clear.

Devon's mouth was hanging open at the woman who stood at the door. He was fucking drooling and he can't even help himself.

She's blonde, curvy, and slender. Firm beautiful breasts with nipples pointing straight at him through the pajamas. Long hair that fell in a mass down her shoulders. Beautiful hands and long sexy legs.

Did he get the address wrong and come to the house of a model?

He checked the address again and decided that he was at the right house. Even the gateman said so at the gate.

It doesn't matter if it's the wrong house. He's definitely fucking this woman before he lives here. He's soooo gonna leave his signature on her.

She's one hell of a beauty...even though she was just in pajamas, and obviously just woke up from sleep.

He wondered who the woman is. Does she work here?

Heavens...a damn good reason to do this job.

"Who are you?" She asked, stiffing a yawn.

Devon stared at the card in his hand. "I'm looking for Raniella Gomez."

"Why?" She did yawn then.

"She's expecting me and---"

Raniella needed to catch that sleep, so she was quick to dismiss the handsome stranger. "Go to the office and meet the manager, Yenna Clarke, she'll---"

"Yenna is the person that gave me her home address. Said, Miss. Gomez wouldn't be in early and I should go over to her house."

Sleep fled from her eyes. She stared at the man. Really stared at him.

He's over six-feet tall. Well-muscled without being too blatant. So very handsome, it's not even funny.

Where did such a man crawl out from? Looking for her?

She was very sure that she had a free schedule this morning, she'd personally asked Yenna to clear it.

She stood firmly at the door, refusing his entrance in case he was a dangerous person. "Let's take this again. Yenna told you to come over here?"

The man grinned and he nodded.

Something must have swallowed her tongue because she couldn't find it all of a sudden. The man was handsome, but when he smiles, he's excruciatingly beautiful.

This is so unfair. There should be a law against looks like this. Nobody should have looked like this at all.

Devon stared at the woman who was frowning so hard, especially when he smiled. He snorted, she's the first woman who doesn't like his smile. Interesting.

"Why would Yenna give you my address, she knows I don't take clients at home." She looked puzzled.

It clicked on his mind. "Wait. Who are you?"

The woman struck out a sexy manicure hand. "I'm Raniella Gomez and you are?"

She's Raniella Gomez!? SHE!!?

Devon stuck out his hand and took her soft ones into his. "I'm Devon Carter....at your ultimate service." He drawled.

This day can't get any better, he decided.
