He walked into the bar and stood a few feet from the door, his eyes scanning around the bar. He was dressed in black shirts with the sleeves rolled to the elbows and black suit trousers and a very expensive-looking wristwatch on his left wrist, complimenting his rich looks.
"This way to the VIP section sir" the guard at the door welcomed him, trying to lead him to his regular section. He was a regular VIP customer and every time he came, he went directly upstairs.
"Don't worry, I'll grab a quick drink at the bar" he waved the guy aside, still scanning the bar.
Soft gasps escaped the lips of people who were in the bar. It was barely six pm and was definitely not the time to find Jack Antonio in a bar.
Jack Antonio was top five richest guys in California. He owned a few businesses scattered around the city and country. His father was a tourist and a big lover of gems so he collected gems, gold, and any other precious stone he could find during his travels. It was after his retirement that he decided to set up a jewelry store and museum to display his arts and precious stones. He himself owned two hotels, one in California and the other in New York. He also owned a construction company that was the biggest in the city. He was a fucking self-made multi-millionaire.
"A shot of Blanco tequila" he ordered as he settled on the seat in front of the bar counter. He let his eyes wander around the bar, it was a bit empty, except for a few people who had come to meet up or grab drinks.
"Here" the bartender placed the shot in front of him and flashed him a smile. He picked the shot and downed it all in one gulp, letting the drink burn down his throat. He typed into his phone, and a few seconds later, he was on his way out.
He walked out of the bar towards his black Mercedes AMG CLS 53 that was parked outside. He had 30 minutes before his big meeting.
He drove off and arrived twenty-five minutes at the huge headquarters of the company he was to close a deal with.
Stepping into the headquarters of Brook Automobiles, he readjusted his suit and walked swiftly to the reception desk.
"Meeting with Neil Brook." she stated, facing the beautiful secretary who looked up from the computer.
"Use that elevator that way, the boardroom is on the third floor. Mr. Brook is expecting you" she stated politely, typing into the computer.
He nodded, and taking her instructions, he made his way to the boardroom. Brook Automobiles was one of the biggest companies in the country. It was founded by Mr. Owen Brook thirty-two years ago.
Neil took over the operations of the company seven years ago when his father was forced into retirement due to health issues and so far, he had done a great job in maintaining the company's record. Standing outside the boardroom, Jack wiped away the little sweat that formed on his forehead, he was really nervous. This would be his biggest deal ever if it goes through.
"Welcome Jack, take a seat." the chief operating officer of Brook Automobiles, Lane offered as Jack opened the door and stepped into the room. He was slightly overwhelmed by the number of faces that turned to him as he stepped in. He was a big CEO, but he had anxiety issues, especially after what happened years ago.
They both walked out of the boardroom after the meeting that lasted for over two hours. Brook and the management team were pleased with his proposal and so he got the contract.
"Thank you, Mr. Brook." He thanked for the umpteenth time.
"You deserve it. You're good." Neil encouraged, patting him. Neil Brook was a thirty-four-year-old man. He was a business administrator and consultant and owned his private firm before he took over the running of his dad's company. He got married four years ago and has a little son.
"We should celebrate. a drink at the bar, you up?" Neil questioned and he nodded. It wouldn't be bad to grab a drink. He needed to clear his head. Together, they walked outside the office building to the garage and into their cars. Neil kicked his engine to life and drove out, Jack following behind.
They got to "Inn Bar," the same bar Jack had come to a few hours ago. The bar was the biggest in California. It had a clubhouse and casino in it. The identity of the owners was not known to the public, but rumors had it that it was operated by a mafia.
They went in and it was busy as ever. Colored fluorescent lights illuminated the inside, making it a bit difficult to see the faces of the people inside. Slow sensual music blasted through the speakers as the stripper continued to put the men through sexual misery.
They pushed through people and different seductive stares of whores trying to get their attention and soon, they were at the top. He took one last glance behind him and he caught her image.
Seated on the high bar stool was one of the prettiest women he had ever set his eyes on. She was dressed in a short gown that stopped mid-thigh and hugged her body perfectly, her hair was blown straight and fell to her shoulders. From his position, he couldn't clearly see her face but he knew she was the one, the same lady he had come looking for earlier.
"You know you could always pick one of them" Neil said, noticing his prolonged stare towards the bar section. He contemplated leaving him and going over to meet the beautiful lady but thought against it. He came with Neil and it would be rude to ditch him for a lady that might turn him down.
"No, I'm fine." he answered and turned, moving inside the VIP section.
"You know, this was my favorite bar when I was younger. The women here are perfect." he stated with a small laugh.
"But, you're still young" Jack argued, picking up the bottle of tequila and filling two glasses.
"I don't consider thirty-four to be young." Neil pushed, "At least, too old to be doing those things." he added with a little laugh. Jack found himself relaxing under the atmosphere. Few hours ago, he was very much tensed about his meeting with Neil and now, they were both drinking and laughing at the bar.
"Heard you're married, how is marriage treating you, huh?" He asked with a glint in his eyes.
"One of the best things to happen to me, my wife is perfect. Thank God I stopped the fuck boy lifestyle, I can't think of seeing her in pain." he gushed with a big smile on his face.
"I'm so happy you found love, but don't you think it is delusional?" he asked in a sad tone.
"It is the best feeling. You should try experiencing it someday." Neil urged on while he shook his head. His eyes darted downstairs as he tried to search for her with his eyes. He finally found her, but this time, she was sitting with someone. He squinted his eyes and found out she looked uncomfortable.
"I gotta go now." Neil's voice interrupted his stare. "Daddy duties calling." he added with a little laugh while he nodded his head in acknowledgment.
"Are you gonna go now or hang around?" he asked, picking up his phones
"I'll hang in here. I'll see you soon " he got up and shook hands with Neil before Neil made his way down and out of the bar.
Once Jack was settled on his sit, he took his glance and drowned the last drop of drink in his glass cup. He closed his eyes as the drink burnt down his throat. Different thoughts were running through his mind ranging from the random lady to business and his family. On a normal regular day, he would be in one of the private suites here, fucking the brains out of any of the sluts here, but today, his thoughts were clouded by the beautiful lady he had seen earlier.
After sitting idle on the chair for more than twenty minutes, he decided to go down and meet her. He picked up his gadgets and walked down, pushing through drunk and seductive bodies before making it to the bar to meet an empty seat.
"Shit!" he exclaimed heavily, staring down at the counter. He scanned around the bar if he could find any figure that looked like her, but the light wasn't helping his work.
"Oh! It's you again." the attendant smiled at him after noticing his disturbed presence.
"Where's the lady that was here some minutes ago?" he asked pointing at the seat.
"Which lady is that?" he asked in confusion.
"The lady that sat here drinking, she was on a black gown that hugged her and her hair flowed to get shoulders." he tried explaining.
"Oh! Karen" he muttered and his demeanor changed to a sad one. "Hope there is no problem?" be queried looking at Jack.
"No, I wanted to have a word with her, do you perhaps know anything about her?" he asked in anticipation.
"No. I only know her as a regular customer here but lately, her mood has been off, I don't know why." he states. His mind went back to the numerous times he had caught her crying silently while drinking. She looked so sad and he knew nothing about her.
"Do you maybe have her number?" Jack asked again, his eyes glinting in anticipation.
"No sir, but we've never really spoken." he answered politely, leaving Jack a bit shattered.
"Okay" he dismissed handing him a tip which he gladly accepted. He looked around the bar one more time before walking out dejectedly.
He got into his car and drove away to his house. The ride to his house was slower than usual. He spent his time thinking about the lady and why he had to have her in bed. He finally pulled up at his gate. He took out his remote controller and opened the gate before sliding in. he packed his car at the garage where his BMW convertible was parked. He took out his suitcase, locked the car, and made his way inside the house.
His house was quiet as usual. He lived alone in the mansion he had bought four years ago when he moved out of his parents' house. He opened his front door and made his way inside, switching on the lights inside. His mansion was located at the porch area a little out of the city. He had a green lawn field, a big swimming pool, and a beautiful garden out looking the building.
He entered his bedroom and stripped naked before entering the bathroom. He walked into the bathroom and heated the water in the bathtub before entering inside and relaxing in it. He closed his eyes slowly as his body relaxed under the water. His shoulders slumped down as he began scrubbing himself under the soapy water. A few minutes later and he was done. He stepped out of the bathroom into his closet where he picked out a gray colored hoodie and blue sports shorts. He finished dressing and walked out to his mini bar. He sat on the high stool of the bar as he picked out a half bottle of tequila from the bar. He connected his phone to the home stereo and Justin Bieber's "ghost" came on. He moved to his dining room where his laptop lay on the table. He powered it on and started working.
Sun rays slipped into the room through the slightly parted curtains and fell directly on his face. He hissed in his sleep before stirring.
It was a few minutes after six in the morning. He had worked late into the night and went to bed at half past midnight. That was his usual nature. Anytime he was stressed or bothered, he overworked to take his mind off the issue and it usually worked out for him. Even on sleeping late, he never woke up late, that was how he was trained.
He took off his sleeping mask, wore his flip-flops that lay on the floor beside the bed, and made his way to the bathroom. He took a quick brush and made his way downstairs to start his day. His morning was always pre-planned. Wake up by six, take a short run, work out for forty-five minutes and be in the office by eight.
He sighed as he passed by the dining. He had forgotten to turn off the music. He grabbed his phone from the table and made his way out.
Fifty-eight minutes past seven, his BMW convertible pulled up at the large premises of his company. The building was a huge six-floor building when different sections that housed the different departments of the company. He stepped out of his car looking smart in a designer-tailored blue suit and made his way inside, nodding to the greetings of his staff. He took his personal elevator and made his way up to his office which was located on the fifth floor.
"Send a copy of my schedule for today to my email, I will check it out." he ordered his secretary after she had greeted him.
"Yes sir." She replied and walked back into her office. She was a young lady of twenty-eight and has been working as his secretary for two years now and was perfect in her work.
Jack walked into his office and picked up his cup of steaming brown coffee from the table. It was the number one rule he had made to his staff, especially his secretary, his cup of coffee should be on his table before 8:00 AM and he took it very seriously. The last time his secretary had forgotten to get his coffee, he took out ten percent from her salary.
"Lisa." He called, out enough for his secretary whose office was just outside his' to hear.
"Yes sir." She responded, rushing into his office. He doesn't always call for her except he had an important meeting or file to attend to.
"What time is this?" he asked calmly and she looked at her watch before responding. "Fifteen minutes past nine, sir"
"What time did I come to the office today?" He asked again calmly.
"7:59 AM" she replied, wondering what the problem was before she looked at his table and it clicked in her brain.
"I'm sorry sir." She tried apologizing but he cut her off.
"I made my rules clear, fifteen percent off your salary this month." He stated in a tone of finality. She tried pleading but he didn't budge.
That was more than a year ago and since then, she has made sure to keep it bookmarked.
...
He finished drinking the coffee and kept the empty cup in the trash can. He set his briefcase containing some documents on the table, took off his suit, and sat on his executive chair. Few seconds later, a notification popped up on his laptop in front of him. He opened it and it was a mail from his secretary.
"Meeting which the finance department – 10:00 AM
Meeting with Zack holdings – 12:00 PM
Financial audit with the Investors – 2:00 PM"
The first half of the year was fast coming to an end and it was a rule in the company to hold a meeting with his investors where they would discuss the financial position of the company.
...
She woke up in the morning, as early as thirty minutes past five to prepare for work, then, it hit her. She had no work to go. She fell back on her bed crying as she reminisced on the event that had occurred. Her boss had been pestering her for a sexual relationship for some months now and she had been refusing all his attempts. He got frustrated and promised to make her pay. She was supposed to get a big gig to interview the billionaire businessman, Jack Antonio for their business magazine, but he sacked her. He made her choose between a sexual relationship with him or her job and she made the decision to stick to her morals.
"I should have accepted him." She wept, burying her face in her pillow.
"But he's old enough to be your father." Her mind yelled back at her. She screamed into the pillow as she continued crying. Her life would be ruined if she doesn't get a new job.
Her mind went back to the interview she was to conduct. She was the most qualified to host him, after graduating from college two years ago with a second-class degree in journalism, the company had offered her employment and she accepted. Her work was going on fine until he was promoted to be the head of her department and since then, it has been hell for her. She was one of the best staff the firm had so when she and others heard that she was sacked for inappropriate conduct, she was marveled. She immediately went to lay a complaint.
"Sir, I just received this letter and it states that I'm sacked." She stated like she was explaining to a kid and he smirked evilly.
"Oh, is that so?" he mocked looking down at her with an evil smile.
"What did I do to deserve this?" she almost screamed in tears while he sat back on his chair, enjoying the sight in front of him.
"I told you I was going to make you pay, didn't i?" he questioned with the same evil smile on his face. She raised her head and looked at him in disgust.
"You are a disgusting old fool." She seethed and he laughed before his expression turned serious.
"But, I can give you one last chance." He stated with a smug smile showing off his ugly dentition. "Accept my terms and I will rescind your sack." He added with finality.
"Fuck you!" she yelled at him, showing him her middle finger and storming out of the office
.
That was five days ago and today, she wished she didn't say all that. After she was sacked she had spent the following evenings at the bar close to her home. She would go there to drink and maybe cry. She was good with her alcohol so she never got drunk.
