Kayla's POV
I rushed through the hall back to my office and Liam looked up at me like I was crazy. I started searching for the files I had misplaced and I couldn't find any of them. "Ohh goodness, why does it have to be today of all days?"
"You lose your files almost everyday and you end up finding them where you least expect." His little voice said as he turned back to watch his cartoons.
He was right. I might have misplaced it while I was taking a break or something. My gaze went straight to the snack bar and my eyes fell on the stack of files I was looking for. "Oohh my goodness, why do I have to be this forgetful. Thank you baby." I kissed Liam's cheeks and rushed out of my office to attend to the customer demanding the files.
Everyone knew I could be absent minded because I spent most of the hours in my day working or taking care of Liam, nothing more. No fun, no time to rest, I barely even slept. I wasn't complaining, in order to keep my interior design company running to the top, I had to do all my best.
We are sitting comfortably at number two and I hated that. I have spent too much time trying to elevate my business than to sit in the top two.
"You have to start taking a break Kayla. It is for your own goods." The young lady before me said as she handed me back the file and I gave her a small smile.
"I will try." I replied and she shook her head.
"You say that everytime and you end up burning yourself out every week and still refuse to take a break." She said with a frown and as I was about to speak, Liam climbed up the chair next to me.
"She is burning out less these days. I'm old enough to take care of myself so I make things easier for her and now she gets complete eight hours of sleep." He said and I looked shocked and worried.
"I slept for eight hours?" I asked and he hummed. The little boy, despite just being five, had the mind of an adult. He was my little personal assistant and makes sure I don't run out of my mind everyday.
"You should get more rest daily momma. Or you'll end up getting six months of rest in bed." He said and Anna hummed as she walked past me, handing me a couple of files.
"He's right. We will soon start locking you out of the office, maybe you will get some rest." She said, "And by the way, there are new customers in the lounge waiting to sign a deal with you. Should I tell them you'll be down in a few minutes?"
"Yes thank you." I gave her a warm smile and Liam wrapped his arms around mine.
"I want to go with you." He said with a teary eye.
"Let's not get started on this Liam. I can't take you with me to see my clients." I replied as I stood up but he wouldn't quit. He threw himself on the floor and started whaling loudly. "Fine, fine. Let's go." I let out a sigh and he giggled with pure fulfilment.
I walked down the stairs with Liam and I could see those waiting for me. I knew if we signed more big deals with more celebrities, Nova Interiors will surely beat White Rock Interior out of top one.
"Miss Kayla." The french accented man said with a smile as he extended his hand. "You even look beautiful in person."
As he said that, Liam grabbed my leg with a pout. "I only tell her that, not you, mister." He said and I immediately closed his mouth.
"I am so sorry about him, sir. Thank you very much for choosing Nova. How may we help you?" I said, leading him to the sofa to discuss.
As we discussed, Liam sat next to me gently, listening to every single thing we were discussing.
"So we will sign this contract. The whole estate, fifty billion dollars?" He asked and I nodded gently before he signed on the dotted lines. "Nice doing business with you, miss."
"I don't like him." Liam said as the man walked out of the lounge. "He is too forward."
"In this business, it is not about who you like and who you don't like Liam. Everyone helps grow your business as much as you do by yourself. Without them, you don't rise." I said to him and he hummed gently.
"That does make sense." He replied and Anna walked into the small room in the lounge where we were sitting, handing me another file.
"We have a new VIP guest. Should I send him in?" She asked and I nodded without looking at the name stated in the file.
Liam was kneeling on the chair, looking out throughout the glass window. "Ohh my goodness, he looks so handsome. Momma."
"Yes baby?" I replied with my gaze still focused on my phone.
"Will I look just like him when I grow up?" He said and I immediately turned my head to see the individual he was talking about and blood drained from my face.
I never expected to see him here again after all these years. He stood there with his men before walking towards our direction. It would be a very bad idea to run now because he already saw me and his eyes didn't leave me till he entered the room.
"He is even more handsome up close." Liam whispered as he sat back gently.
I stood up with my hands trembling as he stepped to stand opposite me. His hands were in his pocket and he looked at me with a small smirk.
"We meet again, Kayla. I'm sure I don't need to introduce myself again."
Of course you don't need to. Who on earth would forget the one and only Tristian Ravenford.
Kayla's POV
Out of all the people in New York city, I didn't want to meet him now, but I had no choice. I tried to compose myself but it was impossible.
I didn't want to see him after I left him six years ago. I even expect he would ever think of coming to New York. We both had a very rocky background and I knew he was ready to rub it in my face right now as he is standing before me with a sinister smirk on his face.
I didn't even know how I would tell Liam that his smoking hot man standing before us is his biological father after telling him all these years that he doesn't have a father anymore.
"You know my momma?" Liam pulled me out of my thoughts and Tristian turned his attention from me and looked down at Liam with a bright smile on his face.
"Come here." Tristian said and Liam rushed over to him, looking up at him.
"Will I be as tall as you are when I grow up?" Liam asked and I just wanted to disappear right then and there. "I look so much like you. We even have the same color of hair and eyes."
"Liam." I cautioned and he twitched his lips.
"How old are you Liam?" Tristian asked and his voice made me weak in the knees.
"I am five." Liam replied and Tristian looked at me before chuckling gently.
"That's interesting. Yes, you will grow very tall just like me. And have these breathtaking muscles every woman dies for and would plead to be underneath by then." He said with a smirk, his gaze never leaving me.
I felt butterflies in my stomach but I still wanted the ground to open and swallow me up. I knew very well he was hinting back to six years ago when he was the only man willing to have a one night stand with me. He wanted things to get serious after that but I escaped.
I found out a few weeks later I was pregnant with Liam, in a new city with no family. I knew he could only be Tristian's and now he is proving me even more right, growing up to look just like Tristian.
"Do not teach my son dirty stuff." I said, pulling Liam away from him. "Liam, go to aunt Anna and tell her to take you for lunch."
"But momma..."
"Do I have to repeat myself?" I glared at him and he nodded gently before slipping out of Tristian's grip. As soon as he left the room, Tristian's men did the same.
"You didn't tell me you have a mini me with you." He said, sitting majestically across me and I sat down, reading through his file.
"Let's not talk about that, Mr Tristian. You are here for business..."
"Of course, I am here for business and you are the business I am here for." He said and I looked up at him with a raised brow. "Why did you run from me, Kayla?"
"I left my past already, Tristian. What happened between us was never meant to happen. Although it brought me joy now, I do not want to be held down by a man." I replied,. looking away from him. "And besides, you are the first person to leave after that night. Do you expect me to beg for you?"
I've had enough men in my life. After spending over five years with my cheating boyfriend, I decided to take a break and met Tristian and we had a wild one night stand.
I had to admit he was hot and everything a woman could ever dream of but I don't care anymore. After that night, he left me with a note and money but I left it back for him.
He sent his men after me and I had no choice but to leave that place and leave everything behind me. I had to follow my dreams and become the successful woman I am today.
"Look, Kayla. I never wanted a woman as much as I wanted you. I fell in love with you right from that day and I tried to push it off but you never left my mind. I tried searching for you but not until I saw you following your dreams and I decided to wait." He said with a straight face and I scoffed.
"I don't care. And if you are here to take my son away from me, forget about it. He would never even want to come with you." I said and he let out a sigh.
"I am moving to New York, and I want you to design my penthouse for me in two weeks." He said, handing me the file laying next to him.
I checked through the file and realized the penthouse was just two blocks away from my apartment building. I don't know what he was trying to do but I had to do the job anyway.
"I want it in black and white. I don't want any color more, or less." He said leaning into his chair. "And I will be paying ten billion for it."
"It's too much..."
"You don't tell me how to spend my money..."
"I am the one personally taking up the VIP booked interior designs. I take exactly what my company charges and not more. If you need someone to show off your money to, you can go ahead and head to another company." I said standing up in annoyance. "And please sign the contract."
He leaned in and did as I asked before I picked up the file. "You can make your payment to the lady right outside the room. Thank you for you time."
Anger surged through my veins as I walked out of the room. Everyone I came across left the path for me, knowing when I am angry is not the best time to talk to me.
Who the hell does he think he is?
Tristian's POV
I watched as she walked up the stairs with so much interest. She looked more beautiful than I remembered her being and my possessiveness sparked. I didn't want any other man to have her or gain her attention before I did.
I never knew she was pregnant and she looked very young like she hadn't carried a child yet.
I remained there for a few minutes before the door opened and mini me walked into the room with a small bag in his hands. "Ooh she isn't here." He said before looking up at me with a raised brow and straight eyes. "I have a question for you tall man."
"Come and sit." I patted next to me and he half ran over, sitting next to me. "And I'm Tristian. You can call me Tristian."
"Momma said I should add the title, uncle or aunt to anyone much older than I am. So, uncle Tristian, how did you meet my mum? She seems to know you so well to look like she had seen a ghost." He said and I couldn't help but chuckle.
I knew Kayla wouldn't want him to know yet that I am his father. But the boy is smart, sooner or later he will figure it out himself. "She is a very old friend of mine. We separated on a very rocky background." I said and he rubbed his chin slightly.
"Why?" He asked.
"I wanted us to be more than friends but she wanted you instead so she left." I said and he looked at me with a skeptical look. "It's the truth."
"Then we will be friends. Any friend of my momma is my friend too." He said with a small smile.
"So, would you like to have dinner with me tonight?" I asked with a raised brow and he jumped out of the sofa.
"Yes, sure. Whatever I tell momma, she will agree to it. I will come over with her so we can all have dinner together." He said, picking the bag he had brought in. "I'll give you our address to come pick us up by 7. If you're late, momma will cook dinner and won't answer you."
He did as he said and walked out. "What should we do about her sir?" My assistant asked as I walked out of the room.
"Arrange the restaurant tonight and my car. I'm taking her out." I replied as I stepped in to the car and the driver drove off.
For the past six years, I've been trying to get to her but she made sure it was impossible for me. She took care of our son for six good years and the least I could do was win her back and spoil her the way I want to.
I stepped into the hotel room already booked for me and I fell back to the bed with a loud sigh. My mind wandered back to the night we had together. Although I didn't want her just for her body, she was just so hot and satisfied me so well.
I couldn't get the sounds of her moan and her calling my name out of my head. "Damn."
Only thinking of it now and seeing how hot and seductive she is now made me aroused. "Fuck.' I groaned as I pulled off my clothes and walked over to the bathroom and pushed the shower on, making it run down my body but the sound of Kayla's moans with the water splashing in the hot tub we had our first round that night became vivid again.
"Fuck... Kayla, what are you doing to me?" I groaned as I started to relieve myself. The sight of her without clothes before me filled my head and I groaned as I kept on stroking myself.
"Goodness, Kayla... I want you so much. I want you to know how much I have missed you. Even if it was just one night... ugh... I still want more of you." I gasped as I started stroking myself even faster, imagining she was the one doing that.
"Fffuuuccckkk..." I groaned as I reached climax and threw my head back with a small smile. "See what you've done to me, Kayla. I'll be sure to punish you the day you come back under me. I will punish you so much."
I took a quick shower and walked to my office space and got to work. Even though I couldn't get her out of my head, I tried to focus on my work a bit till it was almost time to go pick her and Liam up.
"Is there anything I should get sir?" My personal assistant asked.
"A box of chocolate and a bouquet of roses." I said and he nodded gently before leaving the room and I dressed in a plain white shirt and black trousers as I walked out of my hotel room. I got into my car and drove over to their apartment building.
I wondered why she hadn't built her own house yet, being a millionaire, even though these apartments were quite expensive. I walked over to their apartment floor and as I knocked on the door, it was immediately pulled open.
"Oh good you're here." Liam rushed over to me and hid behind my leg. "She is going to beat me for accepting your date with her. You cannot blame me."
I looked down at him in shock but of course I didn't show it. "I thought you and I were going for dinner as..."
"I know what you're trying to do, Tristian, and it is not going to work. My son and I are going nowhere with you." She said with a frown and I scanned her from head to toe. She was dressed in a casual gown which was kissing all her curves seductively.
"I asked Liam if we could have dinner together and he chose to invite you. We aren't going on a date." I replied and Liam groaned.
"Of course we are." He said.
"What do you think is a date?" I asked him.
"It is going out at night with your male friend. They sometimes kiss, they don't sometimes." He said and I could see Kayla gritting her teeth.
"Here, I brought chocolate for you." I said, handing him a box of chocolate. "And flowers for you." I handed her the bouquet of flowers and she still looked pissed but collected it.
"Come in. I'll go get dressed."
