Chapter 1 Katie POV

Katie POV

My dad shouted from the living room, "Katie, hurry, I will be late for the meeting."

"Young Miss, how long will it take you to get dressed? Should I come up and get you myself?" Dad kept yelling.

Why I must accompany him to this meeting is beyond me. He is disrupting my calm because he has a pointless meeting, and I have things to accomplish. A lot of the time, my dad forces me to gamble with him.

When I walked into the room and saw him standing there in this tuxedo suit, I immediately rolled my eyes.

I simply followed him in silence without saying anything. "Took you long enough, let's go, I am running out of time."

He questioned, already enraged, "Young Miss, can't you lock the door?"

I mockingly said, "Take a look, Dad, my hands are tired," as I showed him my rainbow-painted nails.

He said angrily, "Where are your manners, young lady? Let's cut this bullshit, shall we?" I grinned at him because, when he's upset, he has the face of a giant clown.

"Since Mum doesn't own any expensive jewelry and, as far as I know, barely stays with her married gambler, Dad, can we just leave the house now?" I said as I started to walk to the car.

As I was taking pictures to send to my friend, I asked my Dad, "Do you know who you are Gambling with today?"

"I am going to win a lot today, girl, this individual is simply a youngster in my eyes," he exclaimed with a smile.

I looked at him and said, "remember the last time you said this Mother had to pay your debt?"

He responded while still grinning, "Oh my dear don't worry you simply distract the player and leave the rest for me"

The journey was silent. I carried on talking to my best friend.

I went inside the casino. Due to the blue color of the utilized bulb, it was dark. This place always has a pleasant and welcoming odor.

I made my way over to the bar to get a quick beverage. I detest drinking since it gives me a headache the next day.

Furthermore, I got my drink from the bartender and headed over to where they typically gambled. As I got closer, I saw my father laughing heartily with his cronies. Before approaching, I muttered to myself, "Junks of gamblers, old fools."

One of my dad's friends said, "Ahhh, I can see you are here with the little witch today, make sure you distract all our players well girl, I don't want to lose."

They first nicknamed me a little witch and said I was born for this kind of thing...

"Ugh... Next time, you idiot, don't stand in the road." She hit me and was unable to even express regret.

This thug jolted me out of my reverie. She punched me before calling me an idiot as she left. I'm glad I missed seeing her face. I pondered this as I got up from the ground and went in the door to the casino.

Furthermore, I waited at the far end for my dad and his companion so that I might draw the opponent's attention away from them. My dad's turn is awful.

I was astounded to see my dad's competitor, a female wearing a two-piece suit. She appeared to be someone in her late twenties or early thirties.

"A woman wants to gamble with me?" Hahaha... She remained quiet, staring at him with boredom as my dad laughed, "You would like to go home poor and in tears." I could hear and see him bragging once more.

She didn't have a drink with her, so I had to give her one to divert her. I went to her back and kept the drink by her side as I said, "I think you need this."

She didn't respond; instead, she simply stared at me, then the drink, and turned to face my father, who was laughing and joking with his buddies about how wealthy he would be today.

"Let's get started!" Wow, don't undervalue this woman; she is a boss in this situation. She continued to amass all of my dad's money.

She smirked and replied, "800 million." She must have known my dad didn't have any money on him because I was making every effort to divert her attention.

I could see my father was furious. His face was already pretty red. He spun around, shoving all the women off his shoulders, then had a short conversation with his friends.

"I bet with my daughter" he remarked as he turned around, which was the most stunning thing I had ever heard.

Most people were shouting and complaining, and as I stood there astonished with tears already brimming in my eyes, she turned around and grinned. My father was still laughing with his friend.

"You can't do that, Dad". I began speaking before she interrupted me.

This was the first time she had spoken since they began playing, "Deal, let's do it."

Chapter 2 Katie POV

"I am not going to live with a stranger" I yelled at my father, "Why are you my father if you cannot support me?"

"Katie, you are over 18, and you owe me something; I've invested a lot of money in you."

"Spend money on me? I believe that, somewhere, I have a twin sister. Because, as you know, Dad, you didn't invest in me; you lost your business; we lost our home; our family; I paid my school fees; I worked my tail

off; I did different kinds of jobs; I couldn't wear designer clothes and shoes like others; and my mother left the house because she was sick of having to pay your stupid debt. Therefore, never claim to have invested in me because you did not". I yelled and began running erratically through the downpour.

Two Hours ago

"To make money, you want to use your daughter as a bet. If I win, she will follow me within 24 hours". While calmly speaking, the woman turned to face my father.

"She's my daughter, and therefore I get to treat her whatever I choose, right, Katie?" Dad questioned while grinning and staring at me.

I was mute. I sat and watched them deal cards over and over until I saw her win, and my dad lost everything-including the money and me.

After saying, "I'll be coming for her in 24 hours," she turned and walked away.

My dad yelled at me, "This is all your fault; you couldn't divert a woman; you are just so useless."

I just watched everything happen in front of my eyes while remaining motionless like a sculpture.

One of my dad's friends patted him on the shoulder and said, "She's rich, Carter, so it's for the best."

My dad answered, deep in contemplation, "Hmm... yes, I do believe it's for the best."

"No, Dad, I can't be dreaming; this has to be a joke, oh my God, no! No! No! I'm your only child, so please don't do this to me". One of his useless friends again interrupted me.

He grinned and added, "Calm your tilt, little witch, and be happy because your dad is doing you a favor."

Bye, dude, My father dragged me out of the casino by the arms and shouted, "Katie, let's go."

I told my Dad, "Leave me alone; listen carefully; I'm not getting going or following that woman." "You better look for a way to clear your bet," and then I set out on my walk.

I continued to walk without turning to face my father as he slowed down and said, "Katie, get in the car; it's pouring; I don't want you to catch a cold."

I didn't answer him as I continued walking.

After saying, "Ok, have fun in the rain, miss," he left.

I had to do it. I sobbed the entire way home in the downpour.

My dad was waiting for me in the living room when I got home.

My dad stated, while drinking, "Katie, I will be out in five hours to work on my deal with her, so you would only stay with her for a year and come back."

When I could no longer take it, I once more left the house.

I'm currently sobbing in the dirt, exhausted from crying, and my sole buddy is out of town. It's almost morning, so I need to get home before people start staring at me strangely.

"I'm glad to see you back." In a mocking tone, my father replied, "I thought you wouldn't come back here; I see you don't have anywhere to go." I ignored him and went to my room, took off my clothes, and slept in my bed.

"Katie..." The individual continued to stroke my hair as I heard a familiar voice yell, "Wake up!"

While extending, I said, "Mom." I had to rub my eyes because I couldn't believe it had been two years since I'd last seen her.

I understood my mother when she said, "Baby mummy is here. Furthermore, I am sorry I left you here, but you have to understand me" as she couldn't take me along with her everywhere because of Dad.

Likewise, I grinned as I hugged my mother tightly while inhaling her scent and said, "Mummy, I genuinely understand why you had to go, I am so happy you're back."

I was given a bear hug as she remarked, "I miss you so much, baby."

My mom pushed me towards the bathroom, saying, "Go and bathe; you stink; when you're done, come to the kitchen; you look so lean."

I smelled my armpits and remarked, "Ugh, Mom, I don't have body odor, and I was in the rain for hours, so the rain washed me."

My mother pushed me into the toilet and yelled, "Dirt, move, move, move."

"Fine..." I complained as I entered the restroom. Wishing we had a mirror or bathtub in my home like in Jeremy's, I pulled up my singlet over my head.

I carefully poured water from the bowl I had just retrieved while holding it over my head and letting it flow over my body. I dried myself after taking a shower, went into my room, put on a large torn-off shirt that I had stolen from Jeremy, a brief underwear set, and rubbed some deodorant before meeting my mother in the kitchen.

My mom was making my favorite pancake, strawberry, in the kitchen while I stood and watched. I miss my mom since the house seems so empty without her.

Mom remarked with a smile, showing her front gap teeth, "Why are you standing there watching me from there? Come over and help me out."

I sat down and said, "Mom, you

are back to do the cooking while I feed this drum in my body; it consumes a lot, you know."

My mother laughed as she remarked, "Yeah, I know you love food a lot. Stop blaming your stomach. I still wonder where all the food you eat goes." She used to whine about this when I was younger. I enjoy my body because it gives others the impression that I don't eat much.

Even though I miss Jeremy, my mother will always be my listing buddy, since we discussed various topics for hours while she prepared.

My mom was eating pancakes on the other side of the table from me, and I was just about to add more syrup when my dad entered the room.

As he began to eat his pancakes without syrup, my father said, "I see you both have a good relationship with each other, right?" He grinned widely.

I continued to eat, since I didn't feel like answering him or conversing with him. It's disgusting that my dad eats pancakes without syrup.

My dad added, grinning at me, "So Hun, I asked you to come around regarding a very sensitive and important issue. You see, this issue can make us millionaires in a year, but that's assuming the person involved is smart enough. But I'm sure my beautiful daughter is so smart".

Knowing full well that anything I say now is meaningless since this man I call a father won't hear me or pay attention to me, I choose not to respond to him.

Mother asked with confusion on her face, "Oh, so, make me understand."

"Okay, so yesterday I went to a meeting to get some money, you know, since I was a little short on cash, but during that, I gambled with my daughter and I lost. I feel so bad, but I have thought about it, and I think it's best for all of us," my dad said, looking at my mom's expression.

"Dad, I have said this before, and I will say it again Mom, tell Dad I am not staying with her. I didn't ask you to use me while you gamble" I remarked as I continued eating because I cannot forgo food in this world.

My mother was mute, and I believe that she was attempting to digest everything that was happening.

He looked directly at me and stated, "Katie, you have to go, and you will be leaving in 4 hours."

"Carter, you have gambled with everything we have, but not your daughter. Why on earth would you do such a thing when she is your child? Carter, I am leaving with my daughter tomorrow, and nothing you say will stop me. Baby, when you finish eating, pack a few of your things because we are leaving this heartless being" Mom yelled, already fuming with rage.

Nothing else was said. On my way to the kitchen, I was packing the dishes when I overheard my father speaking quietly and painfully for the first time in my life.

"Do you think I want this life for us? I know it's all my fault, do you think I am happy that my wife is providing for the family? You all just sit down and say anything without knowing what's going on in my life. Katie packs your things, you are leaving and that's final" .we were all quiet as we watched Dad leave for the Basement.

"Mom, I can't go. I would rather not stay with a stranger that I don't know she's going to treat me like I am not worth living. You know that Mom I can't stay with anybody, please Mom help me" I said on the verge of tears.

" Can I have the dishes?" Mom took the dishes from me and carried them to the kitchen, then returned them to me.

Look at me, darling. I understand how you feel. You know what we're about to do. "Go in there. Pack everything you need. We'll be out in a few. Be quick." Mom accompanied me to my room and started.

My mother gently rubbed my back and said, "Baby, you have to let go of now and pack your things."

I grabbed one of my suitcases and started packing my things. I was moving so quickly and shoving everything into the box that I missed the knock on the door.

As soon as I carried my suitcase into the living room, I noticed Dad chatting with the woman from the casino and two other guys standing by her sides. Both of them paused and turned to face me.

"I see you were already ready for me; let's go nice working you Carter, take the luggage, and let's move to the car." She said this to the men by her sides.

My mother emerged at that time, and I do not doubt that she was unaware of their presence.

Before she turned to gaze at them, my mom asked, "Baby, are you done packing?" "We have to leave; they'll be here any minute."

As tears streamed freely from my eyes, I whispered, "Mom, tell them I'm not going with them or this stranger."

She gently asked her father, "Ooh, I see, Mr. Humphrey, so you had plans of sending her away; you want to play with my intelligence," but we could all sense the malice in her eyes as she fixed them on me.

My father shook like a leaf being blown by the wind and replied, "No, I didn't know they had any sort of escape plan; I wouldn't allow them."

My mother snarled indignantly, "You're not taking my daughter away; we sit down here and talk about this; you wouldn't want me to involve the police in this," and she continued to fume.

" OK! Since I own the cops and Mr. Humphrey already signed an agreement. I don't have time to converse, go ahead and involve the police". She answered, staring while sitting with her legs crossed.

I yelled while still sobbing, "I'm not leaving with you, Mom. You can't let this happen. I don't want to go with her."

My dad drew nearer to me and added, "Katie, just a year, and you'll be back home, I promise you."

"Don't you dare touch me, you are not my father. A father would never use his daughter to gamble. Mom, please do something, tell her that I am not going with them."

She only murmured, "Take her to the car," as she got up and left the home for her car, carrying me like I weighed nothing. I continued to thrash, punch, shout, and weep, but my parents simply followed them silently without saying anything.

Mom could only utter the words "I love you, baby" as my father bowed his head in shame. I was then pushed into the car with the woman, who locked the door before the driver got in and began driving while I continued to bang on the window and yell.

Chapter 3 Lenexa pov

Lenexa POV

Before he passed away, my father left my sister and me a variety of businesses and corporations. Since my twin sister and I were 22 years old when my father was killed in an accident, we never really got to know our mother. He was hit by a careless, intoxicated driver, and they both passed away instantly.

My sister tried to help to change me, but to no avail. She had to fly to Thailand to take control of my dad's business there, since money had been stolen. It was a sorrowful and depressing moment in my life, during which I buried myself in work and sex with several people.

I continued working and had sex with numerous girls while living in a penthouse with a housekeeper who served as a mother figure in our lives. My sister virtually always calls in the morning and evening to check on me.

I chose today to gamble at my favorite casino. Gambling is one of my favorite pastimes since I always come out on top, and it makes me feel proud and superior. My bodyguard is always with me, but he only appears as a shadow, so I can see him when I first enter the casino, keeping an eye on me and everyone else there.

I ran into a woman who was standing in the road and lost in contemplation as I was heading to the gambling establishment. Even though I knew I had hit her, I still walked away and yelled, "Next time, you idiot, don't stand in the road."

When it was a man's turn to bet, the lady moved from her perplexed vantage point in the corner of the room where we gambled to move toward my side.

I thought she smelled lovely as she said seductively in my ears, "I think you need this." Before staring at her from head to toe, I first glanced at the beverage.

She was incredibly lovely, but I had to pretend and keep a straight face. Already screaming lesbian was the color of her nails.

Unlike most gamblers, I occasionally lose on purpose since I am aware that some players are poor, but this man just kept on boasting.

We began to wager. I could smell the girl as she continued to try to divert my attention when I had failed myself, and I could hear her let out a breath she had been holding. I wondered what her relationship was with the man; they better not be having sex.

Even after using all of his resources, the man continued to lose money. "800 million," I said, wearing a look of boredom on my face.

Before confronting me and stating the most surprising thing I have ever heard in my life, he turned around and chatted with his pals. I was hurt by what he said.

"I'll bet with my daughter; she's pretty, you know," he remarked, pointing to the girl who was trying to divert my attention, so I could lose. I would at least have her within my grasp.

I heard her trying to speak, and I said, "Deal." could hear people discussing and complaining. We started playing, and once more I was able to beat him.

"I'll be there in a day to get her." I got to my feet after that and fled the casino.

"Arden, As my security opened the car door for me, I said, "I need all the information you can provide me about the female who was beside me today at the casino.

When I arrived at my penthouse, my cook, who has been with us since we were children, greeted me.

I said, "Hello, Auntie Maria." Although I may come out as disrespectful from the outside, I am very polite to my relatives and close friends.

"How are you, Lenexa? How was work? You look very stressed. Go take a shower while I warm the food." She claimed to be the mother figure that neither my sister nor I ever had.

I didn't respond, instead silently making my way to my room, taking a shower, and coming downstairs to eat. I couldn't see her, so I assumed she had probably gone to bed. Likewise, I finished eating, packed the dishes, and then quietly made my way back to my room.

Furthermore, I undid my clothing and got into bed, where I eventually fell asleep.

My alarm went off, and even though I would rather not get up, I did my early morning routine, got dressed in my suit, and went to get my coffee before heading to work.

While I was taking up my phone because my sister was calling once again, Arden said, "Good morning," and opened the car door for me.

She shouted, "Lenexa, why did you not pick up my call last night?"

I answered with a smile, able to see her lying in bed, "Do you intend to render me deaf this morning?" Get out of bed and get ready for work, you lazy ass."

"I'm the boss, so I can leave whenever I want." I was addressed by her tongue-sticking comment.

"Therefore, tell me where you were last night, since I asked Maria, and she said that you hadn't returned."

"I went gambling, met a very attractive girl, and got her". She got to her feet and started asking questions.

"How did it happen? Did you coerce her into coming with you or what? Wait, you kidnapped her and threatened her family. What have you done, oh my God?" She remarked without even glancing my way.

"You asked a ton of questions, so are you finished? If so, which do you want me to address?"

"Just reply to everything, so I can decide whether I should start heading home". I stared at her and began to giggle.

My sister still views me as a child, despite my belief that I am an adult. "Oh, sis, I have to leave now; I'll call you later," I had to say when I realized the car had stopped.

She must constantly say, "I love you; take care of yourself, and bye."

"Bye, love you, sis," was how I finished the call. I then opened the car door and stepped outside. As I entered my workplace, I noticed that my coworkers were scurrying away from me out of fear of me. I could also hear my assistant ordering someone to leave because they couldn't see me. We have a meeting because we don't

As soon as I entered, I recognized it was the man from the casino.

They were both quiet when I walked into the room, so I passed by my assistant and the man without saying anything. When I got to my office, I called my PA and said simply, "Let him in."

The door was opened, and he came in. I continued typing without lifting my head from the keyboard and said, "Take your seat."

"It's good to see you again, Mr....." I turned to face him, so he could tell me his name.

"I'm Carter Humphrey," he said nervously.

I said, "Nice to meet you, Mr. Humphrey. My name is Lenexa Alexander, and I believe we have a business to discuss. Can we begin?" while addressing him squarely.

"My daughter is the only thing I have, and it hurts to watch her in so much misery, so I'm pleading with you to let me pay in a year, Miss Alexander." He said, gazing down at his feet. "Please, ma'am, I will pay you in a year because of my error"

"It's not a thousand dollars we're talking about here; you said that yourself. I gave you time to reconsider what you said, but you held firm. You've got to be kidding, Mr. Humphrey, what are you going to give me?" I replied, furrowing my brows. While maintaining a neutral expression, even though I was already irritated.

I stopped him mid-sentence when he said, "I can give you something else, like my house or my car..."

"Carter, you must sign this document stating that your daughter will live with me for a year, even if I sell your house it won't be up to half of that". I stated this while handing him the brown file.

"What?" he sputtered after looking through the file. "I'm afraid I can't".

"Mr. Humphrey, think of this as a lucky break; by having your daughter stay with me for a year, you'll save a lot of money, I will make you pay painfully if you don't sign this document".

Although he took his time signing the documents and giving them to me, he eventually did.

"I will be over in six hours, and don't you dare escape or leave the country or town. I have my men watching you," I warned him. He got up and walked away silently.

There was a knock at my door, and I invited the person inside because it was Arden who had information about the girl. Arden gave me the file, which I then looked through.

Katie, a 22-year-old, recently graduated from college but was unable to secure employment. A writer, she is. Carter, her father, has been gambling for four years now, I thought as I read it. I'm done with this.

"I appreciate you, Arden. Call Maria to get the guest room ready".

Arden exited my office with the words, "Ok, boss." Today wasn't particularly busy. All I did was go over a few documents, sign them, and give them to my PA while keeping the ones I needed to keep before leaving the office.

When I first arrived at their cottage, I questioned how they managed to make a living in such a location after he lost his job as a result of his extensive gambling. Without my knock, he opened the door, and when I was about to urge him to go collect his daughter, she emerged with her luggage.

"Hmm, I see you are done packing and ready for me. It's good working with you, Mr. Humphrey, let's go." A woman emerged from a different door and said, "Baby, are you done packing? We have to leave. They will be here at any moment".

They, therefore, intend to depart. I was so enraged, but I still gave them a blank expression when I said, "Mr. Humphrey, I told you, you can't run away," even though he was already trembling like a leaf and his daughter was sobbing.

"I would never let them leave, I didn't know they both had plans to go".

I had to sit and cross my legs as the daughter begged her mother to intervene before the lady said, "Can we all just sit down and talk about this? You wouldn't want me to involve the cops, would you?" I had to think, "Is this woman threatening me with the cops? She doesn't know who I am."

She remained silent as Katie continued to sob and beg her mother for assistance. "I own the cops; I'm sure you don't know who I am, and your husband signed the deal already, it was his wish he wasn't forced into doing anything," I said.

"Mom, tell her I'm not going anywhere with her," but she said nothing. Her father tried to converse with her while he was hugging her.

He tried to give her a bear hug and said, "Baby, it's just for a year, and I promise you, you'll be back home." She shoved him away.

She exclaimed, sobbing bitterly, "Don't you dare touch me, you are not my father; a father wouldn't use his child to gamble." "Mom, don't just stand there mute, do something."

There was nothing the mother could do at this point, in my opinion, and she didn't want her daughter to think of her as a failure.

I had to leave since I got sick of the small talk. I only muttered "Let's go" before getting up and walking out, certain that my bodyguard knew what to do. Furthermore, I got into my car and sat down as I watched Arden put her on his shoulder to get into the car. As her parents silently observed, she continued to thrash around and hit Arden.

The mother eventually mouthed, "I love you," while the father bent his head in shame without turning to gaze at his daughter. She was placed in the seat next to mine in the car, and when the door was secured, she started banging on the window and the seat. I sat silently and watched her, knowing full well that eventually she would tire and stop.
