Betrayed Heart, Billionaire's Embrace

Author: : Wu Xiaoyan
Genre: Romance
The antiseptic smell of the hospital room wasn't the only thing suffocating Olivia Reed. After a horrific car accident, she found herself trapped, not by her injuries, but by a chilling betrayal. Her fiancé, Ethan Miller, the man she' d loved for years, was having a secret affair with Tiffany Sterling, Olivia' s adoptive sister from the family who had taken her in, only to treat her as an inconvenience. The Sterlings, her birth family, who' d cast her out and now barely tolerated her, doted on Tiffany, their "real" daughter. As Olivia lay injured, Tiffany taunted her with messages and photos, culminating in the cruel reveal that Ethan and Tiffany were having a baby and getting married. The "love" Ethan had shown felt like a well-rehearsed performance, his every word a lie. From a named star he' d promised Olivia, now designated for Tiffany, to the custom-designed wedding bands Olivia herself had created, now gracing Tiffany' s finger. The crushing weight of betrayal, the realization that her entire life was built on a foundation of lies, was almost unbearable. Why had she been so blind? How could they all be so cruel? But just as despair threatened to consume her, a lifeline appeared. Liam Hayes, a tech mogul, offered a marriage of convenience, an escape, a clean break. Olivia wiped away her tears, detached herself from the suffocating past, and rose. She was done being a victim.

Chapter 1

The antiseptic smell of the hospital room was the first thing Olivia Reed noticed every morning. It was a constant reminder of the twisted metal and shattering glass of the car accident that had put her here.

Liam Hayes sat in the chair by her bed, his presence a quiet comfort in the sterile white room. He was a powerful man, a tech mogul she' d met briefly at a design conference, but his eyes held a softness she hadn' t expected.

"My offer still stands, Olivia," he said, his voice calm and steady. "A marriage of convenience. It gets you out of the country, away from all of this. A clean break."

She looked at him, the dull ache in her ribs a faint echo of the deeper pain in her chest. The pain of her birth family, the Sterlings, who had welcomed her back into their lives only to treat her like an inconvenience. The pain of her boyfriend, Ethan, whose love suddenly felt like a well-rehearsed performance.

"I' ll do it," she whispered, the words tasting like freedom and defeat all at once. "But on one condition. We leave quickly, and I need a new identity. I want Olivia Reed to disappear."

Liam nodded, a flicker of understanding in his gaze. "Consider it done."

Just as he spoke, the door burst open. Ethan Miller rushed in, his face a mask of exaggerated concern.

"Liv! Oh, thank God you' re awake. I was so worried."

He lunged for her hand, but Olivia instinctively pulled it back, a small, almost imperceptible movement. He didn' t seem to notice.

"I was stuck in a meeting, I' m so sorry. I should have been here." He began fussing with her pillows, adjusting her blanket, his hands busy and his words flowing a little too smoothly.

It was a show. She saw it so clearly now.

She remembered the nurses gossiping outside her door just yesterday. They praised Ethan' s devotion, calling him a hero for how he' d been by her side since the accident. They didn' t know it was an act. They didn' t see the coldness in her birth parents' eyes when they visited, or the way they doted on Tiffany, their "real" daughter.

"I' ll go get you some water," Ethan said, patting her arm before heading out.

He was gone for a little too long. A strange, prickling intuition made Olivia slide out of bed, her muscles protesting. She moved silently down the hallway, her bare feet cold against the linoleum. She stopped near the stairwell, drawn by the sound of hushed voices.

It was Ethan. And Tiffany.

"When are you going to tell her about us?" Tiffany' s voice was a whiny whisper.

"Soon, babe, I promise. After our wedding, everything will be settled. Just be patient."

Then, a sound that made Olivia' s stomach drop. A soft, wet sound. A kiss. Passionate and lingering.

Olivia froze, her hand flying to her mouth to stifle a gasp. Their wedding. He was marrying Tiffany.

She backed away, her heart pounding a deafening rhythm in her ears. She stumbled back to her room, the world spinning. The IV stand wobbled, its metal frame clattering against the floor.

She collapsed onto the bed, the sterile white sheets feeling like a shroud.

Ethan' s promises, his declarations of love, his years of supposed devotion-all of it was a lie. A cruel, elaborate lie.

They were getting married.

A tear slid down her cheek, hot and bitter. It was over. Everything was over.

Her future wasn' t with Ethan. It was with Liam, a stranger who had just offered her an escape.

And she was going to take it.

Chapter 2

Ethan came back into the room, a cup of water in his hand. He saw the single tear track on Olivia' s cheek and his face immediately softened into a look of concern.

"What' s wrong, Liv? Did you think about your foster parents again?" he asked, his voice full of fake sympathy. He always used her traumatic past as a convenient excuse for her sadness.

"No," she said, her voice hoarse. She quickly wiped the tear away. "I was just watching a sad video on my phone."

Ethan seemed to believe her. He placed the water on the bedside table and gently stroked her hair. "Don't think about them. They're not worth your tears. You have me now."

The words, once a comfort, now felt like poison. She remembered how he' d held her and made those same promises when she first told him about the Johnsons, the foster parents who had made her childhood a living hell. She had believed him then. She had poured her heart and soul into their relationship, supporting him when his business was failing, using her design skills to help him land his first major contract.

Her phone buzzed on the nightstand. A message from an unknown number. She picked it up, her hands trembling slightly.

It was a picture. Tiffany, draped over Ethan, wearing nothing but one of his dress shirts. The caption read: "He says you' re boring in bed. Can' t wait for you to be my maid of honor. LOL."

Another message followed. And another. A flood of them, all from different numbers. Each one was a new picture, a new taunt. Tiffany and Ethan in their apartment. Tiffany and Ethan on vacation in places he' d promised to take Olivia.

The final picture stopped her breath. It was a close-up of Tiffany' s hand, intertwined with Ethan's. On their ring fingers were identical, custom-designed bands. The very rings Olivia had designed months ago, the ones Ethan had claimed were "still in production" and "not available yet."

He had lied. About everything.

The air in the room felt thick, suffocating. Olivia looked at Ethan, who was humming a cheerful tune as he tidied up the room. He was a monster wearing the face of the man she had loved.

Quietly, she pushed the call button for the nurse. When the nurse arrived, Olivia spoke in a low, steady voice.

"I'd like to be discharged."

The nurse looked surprised. "But Mr. Miller said-"

"I'm discharging myself," Olivia repeated, her tone leaving no room for argument.

She didn't pack. There was nothing in this hospital room she wanted to keep. She simply put on the clothes Liam' s assistant had brought her earlier and walked out. She didn't look back.

She was done being a victim.
