CHAPTER 1 | Don't Test My Patience
My first day seems like my usual day. I woke up early to prepare breakfast for Sir Jax. Around six o'clock I was already awake to take care of breakfast but when I went down to the living room, Kuya Baste told me that he had already left. maybe I'll go early tomorrow so I can catch up with him next time.
"You leave the house early," he said while eating the breakfast I had cooked for the boss. It's a shame because if there was no one to eat, I just fed them and then we had breakfast together. sir did not ask me anything else regarding his son. I feel like they don't care what I do, as long as it's up to me to take care of and watch over the child.
"Can't I go to the boy's room? What time is it? Isn't that breakfast?" I asked Kuya Baste who laughed. He gulped down his cup of coffee and took another bite of rice.
"Oh, Seia. I'm the one who's telling you," he said, causing me to give him a questioning look. "Don't wake that boy up. Let him come down here on his own."
I left with a sigh. "But what time is it? It's not right that he will wake up whenever he wants. He will be hungry."
"It's up to you," Kuya Baste shrugged his shoulders in the end and didn't say anything.
I am currently going up to the second floor to go to Lily's room. They say that it's really noon when you wake up, especially if you don't have school and often don't have breakfast. I'm already wearing my uniform and I just finished breakfast. I stopped in front of the door when I reached her room. I was hesitant at first but decided to pull the knob eventually. Surprisingly, it was unlocked. My lips pursed as I slowly pushed the door which made a low creepy squeak on the floor.
"Lily?" I whispered and tried to peek inside her room. it was dark and I couldn't clearly see the entire room. I took a deep breath and slowly stepped on the floor. "Lily-ah!"
I couldn't stop screaming when I fell to the floor because of the slip.
"Hahahahaha!" The child's giggles immediately erupted from the four corners of the room. I caught my own hip and looked at the young woman who was now standing on her bed while jumping for joy. "Hahahaha! You're so lame! Hahahaha!"
"Aw! Lily?" I winced at the wind. I don't know, but I think I fell worse because of the slippery floor. When I tried to take a look at what was stepped on, I saw watercolors scattered on the floor. "What's this? Did you do this, Lily?"
"Yes! Yes! I did that! hahaha." he laughed teasingly before jumping off his bed. "Are you my new babysitter?"
I held my hip as I tried to sit down on the floor. I glared at him.
"Why did you do that? It's bad!" I'm sorry but the kid seems to be used to it and doesn't go through such things anymore.
"Isn't it also bad to enter my room without even knocking?" she asked me back which made my lips purse. Oh yeah, this one has a very sharp tongue.
"W-what?!" I snorted but it just laughed again before looking at me.
"I don't like you! So stay away from me!" she shouted on my face.
"Oh! Seia? Lily? What happened here?" Kuya Baste opened and immediately joined me on the floor. the boy didn't say anything more then quickly ran out of his room.
"Are you really all right?" Kuya Baste asked after I drank the medicine for the pain in my hip. It doesn't hurt anymore and it seems that the medicine got it right away.
"It's fine, brother," I answered, trying to smile even though I was almost hysterical because of what happened.
Lily is now in the garden playing. I just finished cleaning the first floor and am currently putting the laundry out. Kuya Baste said that Sir Jax would rather do laundry than do the laundry himself so that he can reduce the work. I walk to the storage room where the dirty clothes are stacked. I caught a glimpse of Lily in the garden when I passed by.
"Lily!" I yelled at her. The boy turned to me but immediately glared at me. "What do you want to eat for lunch?"
"Don't talk to me!" she shouted back.
I took a deep breath and finally shook my head. I went straight to the storage area carrying the basket of clothes and did not bother the child there. At noon I thought of cooking for our lunch. They have stocks in the fridge so I cooked whatever was there.
"Are you cooking lunch?" asked Kuya Baste who seemed to be just going around the hospital going back and forth.
"Yes," I answered with a smile.
"Isn't your hip aching anymore? Just be patient kid. Don't worry I'll just tell Sir Jax what happened today-"
"Oh! don't stop, brother," I interrupted. I shook my head then smiled at him. "It's okay, just don't tell Sir Jax what the boy did."
"Huh? Are you sure?" This was a strange question that I quickly answered. The child might be scolded and resent me even more. maybe next time he won't just do that by chance.
"Hey!"
Almost at the same time, we looked at Lily who was now about to enter the entrance.
"Lily," Kuya Baste greeted her with a smile. "Seia is cooking lunch."
"I don't care. I wanna eat outside."
My jaw literally dropped because of what I heard. Lord, give me more patience! In the end that's exactly what happened. Lily and I ate outside but before that I called Sir Jax because that was his order. I still don't know what it should and shouldn't eat.
"Ah, sir, Lily wants to eat outside," I said while talking to Sir Jax on the phone. We are already in the car and are about to drive to the restaurant where he and his daddy often eat.
the bvngal boy's art is also good!
[You can talk to Sebastian, he knows the place.]
CHAPTER 1.1 | Don't Test My Patience
"Yes, sir. We're going there now," I said, glancing at the quiet boy behind. she was holding a rabbit stuffed toy and she's roaming her eyes outside the car like a curious cat. "Is there anything Lily shouldn't eat?"
[She can eat anything except peanuts. She's allergic to peanuts.]
"Okay sir, it's noted on the peanut."
for a moment there was silence between us. At first I thought he had hung up and was about to hang up on mine when I heard him speak again.
[Can you give the phone to my daughter, please?]
"O-oh, opo, sir. Wait," I murmured and glanced at Lily from the back. It looked at me quickly. "Your daddy wants to talk to you."
Lily took the phone from me then rolled her eyes. "Daddy?"
I didn't hear what Sir Jax said next because the phone didn't have a loud speaker and only the two of them could hear each other. I can only see him frowning at me when we look at each other in the rearview mirror.
"No, daddy! I'm being a good girl," I heard the child say, snorting. I wanted to laugh but I stopped myself. "Yes, daddy. I love you too."
it was late when we finally got home because Lily invited us to go to the funhouse after we ate lunch. When I got home, I just heated up the dish I cooked earlier this afternoon for our dinner today.
I was currently preparing the table when I saw the boy in the living room watching cartoons. I can't help but smile while watching her. Even if she's being so mean to me, I still find her very cute.
i was fixing the plates on the table when i suddenly heard a consecutive horns from the car outside. I was still holding the cutlery when I walked out of the dining room.
"It's Daddy!" Lily jumped when she heard that too and quickly ran to the entrance to meet her father. I just watched as Sir Jax entered inside and then quickly loaded the son.
"Daddy! I miss you!" Lily uttered as she clung her arms to her father.
Sir Jax kissed her daughter and smiled. "I miss you more, my baby."
"Daddy, have you bought the toys I was talking about earlier?" I heard her ask. I left and walked to the dining room again to continue what I had been doing earlier.
I was placing the glass on the table when I started hearing footsteps from somewhere. I shrugged and continued what I was doing until I heard Kuya Baste's voice.
"Sir Jax," I heard Kuya Baste say to the man who had just arrived.
"Where's the babysitter?" he asked which made me swallow hard. Why is he looking for me? I was nervous thinking that the boy might have reported something to his daddy.
"It's in the dining room, sir."
I went outside the dining room to see Sir Jax. He was still carrying Lily when our eyes met.
"Hi, sir. Good evening," I greeted him then smiled sincerely but that's the shape of his face because he didn't even manage to smile back. "I have prepared dinner."
He is very hard to please!
He gently put the boy down before slightly loosening the tie around his neck. The veins in his arms protruded when he tried to lose his tie. My mind and soul argued for a moment so I immediately looked down.
"I'll just change my clothes," he answered as he glanced at his daughter and kissed her hair. "You eat first, baby. Daddy will just take a quick bath okay?"
"Okay daddy!"
Lily didn't act anymore and willingly followed what I told her. I don't know if it's because his daddy is already there or if the boy is really just teasing.
"Eat vegetables. It'll improve your attitude," I whispered as I said the last words while putting the cooked vegetables on the child's plate.
"I don't care.I don't eat carrots," he said emphatically before setting aside the carrots I put on his plate.
"Eat that. It's healthy."
"I don't eat carrots right?!" This artful answer made me bite my lower lip. I took a deep breath before forcing myself to smile at the demon boy.
"Why not eat carrots? It's healthy." I hesitated to say this, calmer and forced to smile sweetly. Hey, kid. I'm trying my best to be considerate here. Don't test my patience. "Most of your toys are rabbits right? Don't you know that they eat carrots?"
"It's okay," a baritone voice suddenly interjected from the side. I almost jumped when I realized that Sir Jax was already there and standing on the side. I was immediately nervous because he might think I was forcing the child to feed even though he didn't want to.
I zipped my lips and gulped. I distance myself a little from them. He was wearing a plain white shirt and pants. His hair was a bit disheveled again. it looks like she just finished blowdrying her hair and didn't even bother combing it.
"U-Uh, I'm sorry, sir."
"She doesn't really eat carrots so it's okay," said Sir Jax before pulling out a chair next to his son to sit there. I moved quickly to take care of it. I saw him look at his son again afterwards. "Why are you frowning now, baby? Do you wanna eat something else?"
I saw how Lily's muzzle lengthened as she stared at her plate.
The kid slowly turned her gaze to her father. "Daddy, is it true?"
Sir Jax looked at his daughter, confused. "Huh?"
"Do rabbits eat carrots?" she asked cutely. My eyes widened as I looked in their direction. Oh, f^tay! Maybe what the boy will report to him.
"Y-yes they do eat carrots," Sir Jax answered his daughter with furrowed brows.
"Daddy, if they eat carrots then Lily should also eat carrots."
Sir Jax was unable to speak immediately and even I was unable to react immediately to what I heard. i saw how his lips protruded like he was trying to process what he had heard from his daughter.
"Really?"
"Yes, daddy," Lily pouted her lips. "I love rabbits, and if I don't eat carrots they'd dislike me. I'll eat carrots from now on."
Sir Jax drew a lazy chuckle and kissed his daughter on her cheeks. "Okay then, let's eat carrots together."
I bit my lower lip as I watched them amusingly. I almost got a heart attack thinking that she'd say bad things against me in front of him. it's good and it looks like the saints heard my prayer. I sighed in relief. Sir Jax and I looked at each other but he didn't speak
CHAPTER 2 | Breakfast
I was standing a few steps away from Sir Jax and his daughter. They're both lying on the bed. I saw how the child fought his sleepiness while kissing his father. Sir Jax was gently combing her hair with his fingers.
"Daddy, can you take me to school tomorrow instead of Kuya Basti?" Lily slightly looked up at her daddy. He quickly looked down at his son. "I saw my classmates with their daddies sending them to school."
"Baby," Sir Jax said softly as he continued stroking her hair. "You know how daddy badly wants to take you to school right? But-"
"But you just can't," he added to what the father was supposed to say. Her voice sounds sulky. its muzzle started to grow longer and then it gradually frowned. Sir Jax lifted Lily's head and made her face him. He planted a swift kiss on her forehead after.
"And that doesn't mean that I don't love you," he whispered softly. "Daddy will recover, promise."
Sir Jax planted a light kiss on his son again before he gently kissed him. I was just standing behind him as he did that. The child was fast asleep at that time.
"Uh, sir. I'll fix it," I said, pointing out the books on the bed. I started taking the books that were there then stacked them on the shelves on the other side.
"Seiya, right?"
I slowly turned to Sir Jax's direction. It remained standing on the edge of the bed while watching me as I was now being repaired.
"Y-yes, yes."
i saw him nodded his head. "Can we talk for a while?" he said that I barely stopped. My lips protruded and my heart began to pound wildly inside my chest. He's not going to kiss me, is he?
"S-alright," I stuttered as the nervousness reached my chest.
calm down, Sefia Bianca.
He breathed out in a deliberate manner before he glanced at his daughter again. "After that, go to the library," he finally said before heading out of the room.
After I fixed Lily's room, I went straight to the library as Sir Jax ordered. even though my legs almost shook because of the nervousness, I was satisfied that it didn't show on my face. I stopped in front of the door and knocked first.
"S-sir Jax?"
"Come in," his voice infiltrated through the door. I patted the uniform I was wearing before deciding to go inside. I saw him sitting on the swivel in front of the wooden table. His eyes slowly lifted to see me. I swallowed as I played the hem of my clothes.
"Please, sit down."
"U-uh, it's okay," I nervously obeyed his order. I cleared my throat and then sat on the couch that was placed in front of him. There was a moment of silence between the two of us. I don't know why my chest started pounding as I waited for what he had to say next.
"I've read on your profile that you dropped out of college?" his brow lifted.
"Uh yes, sir. I have another brother who is also studying. I gave way for him," I answered. I felt downhearted at that time and that's the truth, but I had no regrets in giving way for Celestine. she's more important than my dreams, they are way more important than any other things for me.
His neutral expression remains as he stared at me. I don't know if he believes me or not. I can't read his expression because he's not giving me the chance to do so. it was as if he's trying to be stoic all the time so that I wouldn't know what was really going on his mind. I gulped and decided to look down instead.
I heard him heave a sigh. "Anyway, how's my daughter?"
"P-what?" we looked at each other after he leaned back from sitting.
"I mean, how was your first day? Did she do something unpleasant to you, so far?"
I bit my lower lip and wondered if I should tell what happened this morning? Should I tell him? What if he still sided with the child even if I reported? I should have seen this coming. of course, he'll ask about his daughter, Seia!
"Uh, nothing sir," my small voice replied. "The boy is nice."
"I know you're aware that nobody can babysit Lily," I know that he sounds so manly when he speaks foreign, but I didn't know that he can also be this good when he speaks Tagalog. I couldn't help but feel even more nervous. "I just want to make everything clear here, Ms. Esquivel."
my whole body stiffened. What is he talking about?
"W-what do you mean, sir?"
I saw how he arched his brow and tilted his head on the other side. I couldn't see if there was a smile playing on the corner of his lips or something. like I said earlier, I can't read him.
"I just want to say that you still have a chance to back out now if you want, as early as possible," he said without taking his eyes off me. My body literally froze like an ice. I don't know if I should laugh at that or just shrug it off. I'd like to think that he's just joking, but there's no sign of humor on his face so what would I suppose to do? "If you've had a change of heart and realized that you can't handle my daughter anymore, then you can stop from here. don't worry, I'll still pay you."
"No," I answered without hesitation. I didn't come this far just to back out. Over my decaying body! I didn't waste time, effort and money just to quit this job so I won't back down. I stared back at him determinedly. "I'll stay, sir. even if I have a hard time, I will not back out. You probably haven't asked me yet, but I'm the type of person who doesn't give up easily. So you don't have to worry because I will do everything to put up with your child."
I looked directly at him and even though my legs almost shook because he still didn't take his eyes off me, I still raised my forehead. I could clearly see how his jaw cried while biting his lower lip as if something was being prevented from escaping. In the end, he looked away and coughed loudly to the side.
He composed himself. "Okay, I understand."
CHAPTER 2.1 | Breakfast
"Don't worry sir, I have never had a bad record even in my past jobs. I have always been a good shot with my boss. I was the best in communication when I was in elementary school and I was never listed in noisy," what other self-selling did I do just to make him see that I am serious about this job. "I can do this job, sir. I promise to do my job wholeheartedly. I was born to do this job, so you don't have to worry."
His mouth hung open as if he found whatever I said amusing. I heard him mock. "Okay. I believe in you," he smirked before he shifted from his chair. "Anyway, Lily needs to go to school tomorrow. her schedule is Monday to Friday every morning. I usually leave early, so we often don't see each other in the morning."
After a while, Sir Jax stood up causing me to stand up and follow his walk.
"U-uh, noted," I answered.
"Sebastian will drive you to school. you have to stay there and watch my daughter until her class is over, then go straight home," he firmly instructed. "If she wants to go somewhere you have to call me first."
"Noted, sir."
"Don't ever let her out of your sight. lily is quite adventurous so I want her to be secured all the time."
"I understand, sir." I nodded and then slowly looked up when I felt it stop in front of me.
"Lastly," he uttered while staring at me. my eyes dilated a bit when I realized how slender I was in front of him. Sir Jax is a huge man. I probably look like a tiny kitten compared to his colossal body. "Don't mention anything about her mom."
At the last word, he seemed to hesitate whether to say it or not. My throat was a little dry but eventually I nodded. I want to ask more but I know I shouldn't. I think, that's my boundary. My only job is to look after his daughter. It's a personal matter between him and his ex-wife, and I shouldn't meddle with it.
"I understand."
He stared at me for a while, considering. In the end he just nodded and didn't speak anymore.
I woke up at six o'clock the next day. Lily was still asleep in her room when I went to see her there earlier so I just cleaned myself up before finally going down to the dining room to prepare breakfast. Lily has school at eight so I still have plenty of time to prepare what she will need.
I headed to the kitchen and started looking for stocks in the fridge. Some lights were on when I came down and I could see the guards outside the house.
"Is Lily awake yet?" I looked behind me when I heard Kuya Baste's voice. I am currently cooking breakfast.
"Sleep, Brother. I'll wake you up later," I replied with a smile. "Has Sir Jax left yet?"
The man scratched his senses while taking a look at what I was doing there.
"Not yet, but that's leaving."
Sir Jax just came down from the stairs while adjusting his tie. We looked at the young man together.
"Sir Jax," said Kuya Baste.
"Good morning, sir," I greeted.
"Mornin'," he answered back with his usual reserved voice. he immediately scanned the kitchen then darted his gaze at me.
"Wake her up at seven. Don't let her skip her meals," he instructed after putting the watch on his wrist. He probably came from the son's room.
"Yes sir," I answered here.
"Call me if she needs something," Sir Jax finally instructed me. "I'll go ahead first."
"Uh, sir," I stopped as he turned to leave. I felt that Kuya Baste also looked at me as if he was also waiting for what I would say. "Uh, don't you two have breakfast before you leave?"
His brow raised and slowly glanced at the man behind me as if I had said something wrong. Then Kuya Baste and I looked at each other. Sir Jax exhaled before he glanced at me again. I sighed, not knowing why he seemed nervous every time he looked at me like that.
"I don't usually eat breakfast," he just said before turning his back on us.
My lips parted slightly when he left us there. Kuya Baste's forced coughing was the only thing that made me regain my senses. I looked at him and saw that he motioned his hand to his neck and then shook his head.
At first, I didn't get it but eventually realized that I shouldn't have asked my boss that. lily is my priority here and not him. Did I know that he didn't have breakfast?!
After I prepared breakfast, I went up to the second floor again to go to Lily's room. Sir Jax had left earlier so he couldn't catch up with her. I took a deep sigh when I reached her front door. I know that she's already planning something inside, so I want to be careful this time. Maybe later I will reach even worse today compared to yesterday. I slowly turned the lock and gently opened it.
"Lily?"
I fumbled for the light switch on the side before going inside. She was lying on her bed, stiff and not moving. That's a relief! She's still asleep. I sighed and smiled. I was about to approach the case when I tripped over a cloth that looked like it was left there because I fell on the floor again.
"Hahahaha!" Lily's deafening laugh echoed inside her room. Fortunately, I was able to hold my hands up so my face didn't hit the floor. "Hahahah! You're so lame!"
I clenched my jaw and slowly stood up. I patted myself and then bowed in front of it.
"Are you happy?" I asked sarcastically as he stopped laughing. "Get up there and have breakfast downstairs. You have to go to school early."
"I don't want to go to school!" she yelled out which made me close my eyes in displeasure. This toothless naughty kid is starting to get on my nerves.
"Lily-"
"I said I don't want to go to school!"
"I'll inform your daddy then," I uttered, gathering every fiber of my patience.
"I feel sick!" it made my eyes widen with envy. I quickly walked closer to him to check if he was hot or not.
"You're not hot!" I exclaimed while frowning.
His face crumpled even more because of what he heard. "I just don't want to go to school. I want to stay here."
"Ezili," I called threateningly. "You can't be absent from school. Your daddy will be mad if he knows that you don't want to study anymore. do you want him to get sad because of you?"
His previously frowning face gradually changed to thinking. Its muzzle lengthened again as if it wanted to argue, but nothing was done in the end. She jumped out of her bed and ran outside her room. I just got tired and started to fix his room.
CHAPTER 3 | She's Just A Kid
"Lily!" I called out when she was about to run towards the car. I am now holding the spoon and its vitamins because Sir Jax strictly ordered that Lily not forget to drink vitamins before entering the School. "Come here! Drink this first."
Irritated, the boy ran back to me to drink his vitamins, then he ran again to Kuya Baste who was waiting. After I put the tools away, I immediately followed it to push away.
"Is everything alright? Did you forget anything?" Kuya Baste as we boarded their Land Cruiser.
"Kuya Basti, can we go to donut house first? I want to have donuts," Lily said artfully from the back while I was already fastening my seatbelt in the front seat. I raised my eyebrows and looked at him in the rearview mirror.
"You have snacks in your bag, right?" I'm interested in it. She just winced and rolled her eyes at me.
"It's fine, Seia. He actually buys a donut before going in," Kuya Baste answered me laughing. I didn't speak and just shook my head.
That's exactly what happened and we first went to the nearest donut house to buy there and then went straight to school. As soon as the door opened, Lily immediately ran away from us. I said goodbye to Kuya Baste before I followed the naughty boy.
"Just call me when you're done."
"Okay, brother. Thank you," I said before running to follow Lily inside. I saw him stop in front of a door where other guardians were also waiting outside. Maybe that was his designated room.
I saw him look at me before being tortured. "Run faster!" he still shouted causing me to try to smile at him. i hopped towards her and gave her backpack. He was about to enter their room right away but I immediately grabbed his arm causing him to look at me again.
"Just behave on the inside," I firmly instructed, making him frown. he even stuck out his tongue as if teasing before walking inside and never looking back at me. I followed him with a look until he stopped for a moment because he was met by a man wearing glasses.
"Good morning, Ezili," the man greeted with a smile then tapped Lily's head.
"Good Morning Teacher Aries," the boy replied with a smile.
"You may sit down now. You're friends are waiting for you," I heard him whisper before watching Lily finally enter inside. then it looked in my direction because I was slightly startled.
He's wearing a button down shirt that really suits his lean body. He looks so formal and clean with his hair coiffed in perfection. he has a narrow nose and angular cheekbones carved towards a soft jaw. I couldn't help but to mentally praise his vivaciously gentle nature. My chest pounded in an unbridled pace. I saw him fixing his glasses as he walked towards my direction. the sweet scent of his cologne quickly attacked my nose.
"Hi," he smiled vividly. "Uh, are you with Lily?"
I left before nodding involuntarily. "Y-yeah."
He slowly nodded his head too then bit his lower lip. He looks so attractively handsome! "I see. My name is Aries Aguirre. I'm their homeroom teacher."
He extended his hand to me so I immediately took mine before handing it to him.
"U-uh, Sefia Bianca," I closed my slightly parted lips.
"New babysitter?" he chuckled languidly.
I swallowed and awkwardly nodded my head. "Y-Yes."
We stared at each other for a while before he smiled and scratched the back of his neck. He cleared his throat.
"Nice to meet you, Sefia," he said in a friendly voice. "U-uh, anyway, I'll start the class. Mind to excuse me." he said goodbye while holding back a smile.
"Uh, o-okay. Good luck!" I forced myself to laugh while biting my lower lip.
I saw how his brows furrowed as if he was amused, or did he even find me weird?
"Yeah, goodluck too, Sefia," he answered with a laugh before turning his back on me to go ahead.
the class lasted more than an hour before the teacher announced breaktime. I didn't leave there and waited patiently as Sir Jax instructed. I leaned forward to peek at the pet inside. I watched how Lily took her pocket from the bag and then peeked through the pocket of the people next to her. I couldn't stop laughing while looking at him from outside. Their break is also thirty minutes, so they have quite a long time to eat and play.
I remained sitting outside with the other babysitters who were also there waiting. I have talked to a few but almost all of them left to maybe eat for a while. I also want to eat but I don't want to leave Lily here. maybe later he will look for me and then I won't be here. Maybe I'll bring a light snack next time.
I exhaled as I drank the mineral bottle I was holding. I stood up when I saw that Lily also stood up and looked like she was going somewhere. later I noticed that he came out of their room carrying the plastic donut that we bought outside earlier. He stopped in front of me before handing it to me, still frowning. At first I couldn't understand what he wanted to convey until he finally spoke.
"Why didn't you bring a snack for yourself?" he asked flatly as he held out the plastic to me. My lips pursed in astonishment.
"Why are you giving me your food?" I asked, still couldn't believe that she's sharing her food with me.
"Just take it and eat," he said like an old man. I didn't want to take the plastic from him. I even heard him sneeze before running back inside again. In the end I couldn't stop smiling. The boy also has good things to hide.
"Goodbye teacher, goodbye classmates. See you tomorrow. God bless us," the children said at the same time while saying goodbye to their teacher.
It's already eleven thirty in the morning. Earlier I also called Kuya Baste to pick him up. I stood up from sitting in the corridor and then watched the children come out one by one.
"Baby, Lily!"
"Bye!" Lily was still waving at her classmates when I approached her.
"Wow! You have a star? It's great," I said smiling because I saw the star stamp on the back of his hand.
He looked up at me before grinning. "I did my assignments," she said with confidence. I chuckled and tapped her head.
"You should always do assignments so you always have stars."
CHAPTER 3.1 | She's Just A Kid
"I also did recitations, Sabrina and I," he added as we walked down the hallway.
"Who's Sabrina?"
"My friend," she answered which made me smile.
"Do you have a friend too?" I said the last word weakly.
"What?" it asked before returning to frowning.
"No," I exhaled and shook my head instead.
When we reached the outside, we immediately saw Kuya Baste in front of the car. Lily ran closer to her while I carried her things in my hand. Kuya Baste gave Lily a high five and then they sang a nursery song together that I don't know the lyrics to. I guess I was absent when that was pointed out to us.
"How are you?" Kuya Baste said when I stopped in front of the car to arrange Lily's things inside. He seemed excited to know what insult the boy had done to me.
"It's fine," I said with a smile. I turned to Lily who was now peeking out the window. "Let's go home?"
She wagged her head. "Funhouse."
I made him suffer but in the end nothing was done either. I called Sir Jax first that we were going to the mall to have a funhouse. We also had lunch there before going straight home.
It was already dark outside when Sir Jax got home from work. He was immediately greeted by Lily who seemed to have turned into a monkey while clinging to her daddy.
"Daddy look, teacher gave me a star because I did my homework," Lily bragged to her daddy while being held here.
Sir Jax kissed her on her hair as he watched Lily's knuckles.
"Good job, baby," he uttered sweetly. "You're making daddy happy."
"Really?"
"Yes, Ezili. daddy is so happy," Sir Jax whispered and showered his daughter with kisses.
I almost jumped when Sir Jax caught me watching them. I quickly looked away and quickly ran back to the dining room to continue what I was doing.
I just finished giving Lily some milk. I met his daddy while he was reading a book to his son. Sir Jax and I looked at each other and when I glanced at the child, he was fast asleep in his father's arms. I slowly walked to the side to get the glass he was drinking from.
"Just take it, sir," I whispered.
Sir Jax didn't say anything but I could feel his eyes following me. I glanced at his direction when he suddenly moved. He is now frowning at the child.
sir Jax slowly caressed Lily's hair and then gave her a peck on her cheek. We looked at each other for a moment before I continued what I was doing. I don't know if he waited for me to finish cleaning before we left the room together.
"U-uh," I swallowed hard and headed. "W-do you have any other orders, sir?"
I heard every puff of air because the surroundings were so quiet. He remained standing in front of me and I couldn't look at him for fear that I might not be able to match his gaze with me.
"How's my daughter?" he asked raspily.
Little by little I looked up at him. I was holding a tray and my hands were trembling.
"A-it's fine, sir," I stammered.
I heard him sigh before placing his hands inside his pocket. "Are you sure?"
"O-opo" I tried to smile.
I saw him nod before looking down at the floor. His jaw defined when he clenched.
"I know how playful my daughter is," his voice became tender. "I know there are times when it's hard to watch and take care of her. She's a curious and very smart kid. She wants to know everything. she just wants to feel loved. She's just a kid who's seeking for love and attention that I can't give her sometimes. I hope you won't get tired of her."
I couldn't help but feel somehow sad for Sir Jax. There is probably a part of him that blames himself for the child's behavior. she's just an innocent kid who wants to be filled with love. Maybe he is right and that is the reason.
I took a deep breath before working up the courage to speak. "I believe that you have not failed to give Lily love, sir." I said softly while staring at him. I saw his lips twitch slightly, not taking his eyes off me. "I see that he is full of love from you and the people around him. And you have nothing to worry about, because I am also ready to give love for the child."
His astonished gaze remained on me and at that moment I was able not to look away from him. His eyes glistened in pure amusement. In the end, he just smiled at me before gently nodding.
"Thank you," he said softly.
I can't help but be more impressed with Sir Jax especially in his current situation. I know it's been hard for him to raise his daughter alone, but he always finds a way to make it work. It's the love for his child that pushes him to be a better father, every single day and I salute him for that.
a few days went by like that always happens. I'll wake up in the early morning, doing the same routine. I'm just thankful because I was able to last two weeks here even though sometimes I just want to sit on the sidelines and be dumbfounded. Lily does her same routine as well. she does prank me every morning, and sometimes I just get used to it.
I knocked on Lily's room first before I finally entered. I was holding a glass of milk when I saw her doing her homework on the study table. he just glanced at me once before refocusing his full attention on what he was doing. I placed the glass behind and watched her doing her assignment. I smiled and then leaned on the table.
"What are you doing?" I asked softly. I know she's busy but I just want to talk to her.
"Teacher Aries wants us to color this book," she looked at me lazily. My lips pursed when I realized that she seems sleepy now. I slowly removed the strands of hair on her face as I watched her closely.
"Are you done?"
She yawned and continued what she was doing. "Nope."
"Do you want me to help you?" He sighed before glancing at me again. His eyes were closing so I couldn't stop smiling. I took the color from her hand. "Drink your milk first. I'll do this one."
Lily almost fell asleep drinking milk, so when I heard her breathing peacefully, I picked her up to move her to bed. I scolded him there and then returned to the study table to continue his unfinished homework.
