Bound by the Moon Some destinies are written in blood and moonlight. Selene never believed in fate-until the night her dreams began to bleed into reality. Haunted by visions of a silver-eyed stranger and a curse whispered through generations, she discovers a terrifying truth: she's the key to an ancient prophecy that could shatter or save her kind. Lucian, the exiled Alpha of a broken pack, never wanted a mate-especially not one who threatens the fragile control he has left. But when he's drawn to Selene by an unbreakable bond and a shared past neither of them remembers, he must choose between reclaiming his power or protecting the only woman who could destroy it. As shadows close in and the moon's pull grows stronger, Selene and Lucian must face a deadly legacy. Because in a world where the moon decides fate... love may be the most dangerous curse of all.

Chapter 1 The Hunt Begins

Selene's breath came in shallow gasps as her feet pounded against the forest floor, the thick underbrush brushing against her legs with each desperate stride. Her heart hammered against her ribcage, its frantic beat syncing with the pull of the moon-a curse that had haunted her since birth. The blood in her veins burned with its relentless call, demanding that she surrender to its will. But she wouldn't. Not yet.

The curse in her blood wasn't just a part of her-it was her prison. The moon had branded her a weapon, something to be feared and hunted. And that's exactly what was happening now.

Lucian Blackwood.

His name was a shadow that haunted every corner of her mind, every thought. The most dangerous Alpha in the world. The man who could never be outrun. She had been fleeing for days now, through forests, over mountains, across rivers-anything to distance herself from him. But he was too close. He always was. His scent was in the air, an intoxicating mix of pine and something darker, something that made her skin prickle in warning.

And with each step she took, each breath she drew, the weight of their connection pressed harder against her chest. It was a bond neither of them could escape, no matter how far or fast she ran. The moon had chosen. And fate had already set its course.

Her feet skidded across the mossy ground, her eyes scanning the trees, trying to find a way out. But there was no escape, not now. She could feel him drawing near, feel the intensity of his presence like a storm on the horizon, rolling closer, promising destruction.

"Selene!" The growl of her name echoed through the trees, a command, a warning.

Her heart skipped a beat, a wave of cold dread washing over her. He was close, too close, and it would only be a matter of time before his long stride would be at her back. She pushed harder, the branches scratching at her skin, but it wasn't enough. Nothing was enough.

There were no more options. No more escape.

Ahead, she saw the edge of the forest-a cliff, a steep drop to the jagged rocks below. The moon above bathed the world in silver light, making the drop look like a chasm of shadows. For a moment, panic gripped her chest. She couldn't go that way, couldn't jump. The fall would surely kill her. But the alternative? There was no alternative.

Her breathing became erratic, and her pulse thudded in her ears. She was trapped. But no matter how much her mind screamed at her to turn back, to face him, her instincts told her to do the one thing she'd been avoiding all her life-accept the bond, embrace the power, and become what the moon had designed her to be.

"No," she muttered to herself. "I will not."

Her fists clenched. Her mind raced for a way out, but every avenue seemed blocked, every option futile.

And then she heard him-his footsteps crushing the leaves beneath his boots, his heavy presence forcing the air to crackle with tension. Selene stopped, her breath ragged, eyes darting between the cliff and the forest behind her.

"Don't make this harder than it has to be," Lucian's voice purred from the darkness, soft and lethal.

She spun around, her eyes locking onto him, the sight of him striking terror into her very soul. Lucian Blackwood stood there, towering and imposing, his dark features illuminated by the pale moonlight. His silver eyes gleamed with something primal, something ancient, a hunger that sent a jolt of fear through her chest.

He stepped closer, each movement calculated, predatory. He wore his dominance like a cloak, a thing of sheer power and control. His black leather jacket clung to his broad shoulders, his every muscle defined beneath it, and his dark hair, wild and untamed, seemed to match the chaos within him.

Lucian was every bit the monster she had been warned about. The Alpha of Alphas, feared and revered by all. And now, he had found her.

Selene's heart raced, her pulse quickening with every step he took toward her. "You're too late," she managed to say, though her voice was shaky. "You'll never control me."

His lips twitched into a mocking smile. "I already do, Selene. You're mine."

"No." The word came out as a growl, and she forced herself to stand tall, despite the fear clawing at her insides. "You'll never have me."

Lucian's gaze darkened, and for a brief moment, something cold flickered in his silver eyes. "You don't have a choice."

He was close now, close enough that she could feel the heat of his body, his energy radiating like a storm. She could feel it in the air-his power, his dominance over her. The bond between them was like a thread, tugging at her, pulling her toward him, and despite every ounce of resistance in her body, she felt the pull. The moon's call, relentless and demanding.

"No," she whispered, her voice barely audible, but filled with defiance. "I won't let you use me."

Lucian stopped just a few feet away, his gaze never leaving hers. He was studying her, waiting for the moment when she would break, when she would submit to him and the bond that had already been set in motion.

"You think you have a choice, but you don't," Lucian said softly, his voice laced with both amusement and danger. "The moon has already chosen you. And it chose me, too."

His words were like a heavy weight settling in her chest. The truth of it, the reality that she couldn't escape, was a bitter pill to swallow. She had always known, deep down, that there was no escaping this fate. The moon had marked her for him, had tied their destinies together in a way that neither of them could sever. But that didn't mean she had to accept it.

"I'd rather die than be bound to you," she said through gritted teeth, her fists clenching at her sides.

Lucian chuckled darkly, and for a moment, the sound seemed to echo through the forest, filling the space between them with an eerie chill. He stepped closer, his presence almost overwhelming. "You'll have your chance," he said. "But don't mistake your defiance for strength. You're not as strong as you think, Selene. The bond is already there, and I'll make you embrace it."

His hands shot out, gripping her arms with a force that made her body tense with resistance. His touch burned, sending jolts of electricity through her skin, but Selene fought against it, her nails digging into his wrists, trying to break free.

"Let go of me!" she hissed, trying to twist out of his hold, but it was useless. Lucian was too strong, too fast.

"You think I'm the enemy?" Lucian's voice was a low rumble in her ear. "You're wrong. I'm your salvation."

She recoiled at his words, her heart lurching. "Salvation?" she repeated, her voice cracking with anger. "You're the reason I'm running. You're the reason my life is in ruins. You're the one who hunts my kind, who destroyed everything I ever loved."

His grip tightened, but not painfully. It was possessive, controlling. And though he was still speaking softly, there was a fury simmering beneath the surface. "I didn't choose this either, Selene. But I won't let you destroy yourself trying to avoid it."

For a moment, their eyes locked, the connection between them crackling with an undeniable energy. The bond-the curse-was pulling at her, tugging at the very fabric of her being.

"I'd rather die," she whispered, her voice raw.

Lucian's expression softened, though the hardness in his eyes never wavered. "Then you'll die trying."

In a single, fluid motion, he pulled her closer, his lips brushing against her ear. "But I won't let you go, Selene. Not now. Not ever."

And as he held her in his arms, the darkness closed in around them, and Selene knew, with a cold certainty, that there would be no escaping the storm that was coming.

Chapter 2 The Bonds of Fate

Selene's pulse pounded in her ears as Lucian held her, his body a wall of heat and strength. Every part of her screamed to break free, to run, to escape the suffocating presence of the Alpha. But something deeper, something primal, told her to stay. The bond between them-the curse-made it impossible to ignore.

She closed her eyes, trying to clear her mind. It was a mistake, she told herself. It was a mistake to let him get this close. A mistake to let him touch her.

And yet, the heat of his touch lingered on her skin, a reminder of the power he wielded. The power he wanted to use to control her.

"Let go of me," Selene hissed, her voice sharp with defiance. She twisted in his arms, pushing against his chest, but Lucian didn't flinch. He didn't move.

"I can't do that, Selene," he said, his voice low and rumbling, like the growl of a wolf just before it struck. His grip tightened, not in anger, but in a way that made it clear he wasn't about to let her escape. "Not now. Not ever."

"You don't have the right-"

"I have every right," he interrupted, his words cutting through the night air like a blade. "You're mine. You always have been."

Selene's breath hitched, the words striking a nerve she'd tried so hard to bury. Every instinct in her told her to fight, to reject him, but the moon's pull-the bond between them-made it feel as though the very earth beneath her feet was shifting. Her body, her heart, everything was drawn to him.

"Why?" she demanded, the anger in her voice masking the fear that lingered just beneath the surface. "Why me? Why do you think I'll ever be yours?"

Lucian's silver eyes flickered with something-something she couldn't quite read. "Because you're my mate, Selene. Fated by the moon."

His words, spoken so matter-of-factly, made her stomach churn. She wanted to scream at him, to push him away with all her strength, but the truth of it-the undeniable reality of their connection-pressed down on her like a heavy weight. The bond was real. The pull was real.

And it terrified her.

"You think I care about some prophecy?" she spat, her fists clenched at her sides. "You think the moon can tell me what to do? What to feel? No. I'm not some helpless girl you can control."

Lucian's expression darkened, the softness in his gaze replaced by a cold intensity that sent a shiver through her spine. He stepped closer, his lips brushing against her ear. "You may not believe it now, but you will. It's in your blood. And you can't run from it. Not anymore."

She recoiled from him, her body rigid with anger and fear. "I'll never accept this."

Lucian's grip loosened slightly, though he didn't let go. His hand brushed her hair back from her face, his touch strangely tender despite the force of his words. "You don't have to accept it, Selene. You just have to survive it."

Her breath caught in her throat. "What do you mean?"

He didn't answer immediately, his gaze far off, as though considering something far beyond her understanding. Finally, he spoke, his voice steady and grave.

"An ancient prophecy is coming to pass. One that says you and I are the key to a war-one that will destroy everything unless we stop it."

Selene frowned, confusion and skepticism swirling inside her. "A war? What war?"

"The war between the Alpha Lords and those who would seek to overthrow them," Lucian replied, his eyes meeting hers with an intensity that made her stomach tighten. "The moon chose you, Selene, because you are the only one who can stop it. Your blood, your power, is the key."

The words sent a chill through her, though she refused to show any sign of fear. "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm not a weapon, Lucian."

"You are," he said, his voice thick with resolve. "And so am I. We've been bound by fate, by the moon's will. And we will fight together, whether you want to or not."

A cold gust of wind swept through the forest, rustling the trees. Selene took a step back, her heart racing as she tried to make sense of what Lucian had just said.

She had always known that the moon's curse in her blood made her different-dangerous, even. But this... this was something beyond anything she had ever imagined. A war? A prophecy? And her role in it? It all felt too unreal, too much to bear.

"I don't care about your war," she said, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and anger. "I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask to be tied to you, to be your mate. I want nothing to do with any of it."

Lucian's eyes softened, though the fierce determination in them never wavered. "You don't have a choice, Selene. The moment you were born, this path was set for you. For both of us."

She shook her head, unable to wrap her mind around what he was saying. "This isn't right."

"No," Lucian agreed, his voice low. "It's not. But it's what we have. And right now, it's all we can rely on."

The weight of his words settled over her, heavy and suffocating. She felt trapped, caught in a fate she had never chosen. And yet, despite the resistance that surged within her, part of her felt the undeniable pull-the bond-that connected her to him, to this world of darkness and power.

"I can't..." she whispered, her voice breaking. "I can't be with you."

Lucian studied her for a long moment, his expression unreadable. Then, with a slow, deliberate motion, he took a step back, releasing her from his hold. "You don't have to be with me yet, Selene. But you will be. We all have our role to play."

The words hung in the air between them, a promise, a threat, a curse. The bond between them pulsed, a steady rhythm in her veins, and no matter how much she wanted to fight it, she knew deep down that it was already too late.

"Go," she said, the word bitter on her tongue. "Just go. I'll never be your pawn."

Lucian didn't respond. Instead, he turned and disappeared into the forest, his presence lingering in the air long after he was gone.

Selene stood there, trembling, alone in the quiet of the night. The moon above was full, its light casting long shadows across the landscape.

And somewhere, deep within her, she knew that her life had just changed forever.

Chapter 3 The Dark Truth

Selene stood motionless beneath the vast sky, the full moon casting an eerie glow across the forest clearing. The silence was suffocating, broken only by the faint rustling of leaves in the breeze. Lucian's words echoed in her mind, each one like a distant drumbeat, impossible to ignore.

You're the key to a war...

Her heart clenched at the thought. A war. A prophecy. It all felt like a cruel joke, a nightmare that wouldn't let her wake up. And Lucian, the man who had haunted her thoughts for years, was now telling her that she was the center of it all. The moon had chosen her as the key to stopping a war she didn't even understand.

Her fists clenched at her sides, her nails digging into her palms as she fought to control the storm of emotions raging within her. Anger. Fear. Confusion. And something else. Something darker that she refused to acknowledge.

The pull between them-the bond-was growing stronger with every passing moment. She could feel it deep inside, like a part of her soul that had been waiting for this. Waiting for him.

"No," she whispered, shaking her head as if the words could chase the thoughts away. "I won't be a part of this."

But deep down, she knew that she was already caught in the web. Lucian's grip on her life, on her fate, was undeniable. And no matter how much she resisted, the bond between them wasn't something she could break.

She turned away from the clearing, the cool night air biting at her skin as she began to walk, her thoughts a tangled mess. She needed to think, to understand what Lucian had meant by the prophecy. And if it was true-if she was truly the key to stopping a war-then what was her role in it? Could she even stop it, or was she simply a pawn in some game she didn't understand?

The moon hung high in the sky, its light brighter now, as if watching her, judging her. Her blood thrummed in response to it, the curse pulsing in her veins like a warning. The deeper she went into the forest, the harder it became to ignore the call.

A movement to her right caught her attention, and she spun around, her heart racing. But it was just the wind, pushing the branches of the trees. Yet, for a moment, she swore she saw a shadow darting between them, moving with the speed and grace of a predator.

Her breath hitched. She wasn't alone.

"Selene."

The voice sent a chill down her spine, familiar and commanding. She didn't need to look to know who it was. Lucian's presence filled the air like a storm, his power a force she couldn't escape. Slowly, she turned, her body tense, ready to run, but the bond... the bond between them... made her hesitate.

Lucian stood a few feet away, his dark silhouette framed by the trees. His eyes gleamed silver in the moonlight, watching her with an intensity that made her stomach twist. He didn't speak right away, his gaze scanning her as though he were trying to figure her out. Trying to understand her resistance.

"What do you want?" Selene asked, her voice tight with frustration.

Lucian's lips quirked into a small, almost sad smile. "I think you know what I want."

The words stung more than she expected. She hated that he could read her so easily. "I told you already, Lucian. I don't want any part of your war. I'm not your weapon."

"You're not just a weapon, Selene," Lucian said, his voice low and serious. "You're a part of something much bigger than yourself. You've always been."

"Stop. Just stop." She took a step back, her hands trembling as she fought to keep her composure. "I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask to be tied to you."

Lucian's gaze softened, just for a moment, before his expression hardened again. "You didn't have a choice. None of us did."

"Don't tell me what I have and haven't chosen," she snapped, her eyes flashing. "You think you know me? You think you know what I want? You don't."

His gaze darkened, and he stepped forward, closing the distance between them with effortless grace. Selene's heart skipped a beat as he drew closer, but she stood her ground, not wanting to show him how much he affected her.

Lucian reached out, his hand brushing against her cheek, his touch so gentle it made her want to pull away, to run from it. But the bond-the damn bond-held her in place. Her pulse quickened, and despite every instinct telling her to reject him, she couldn't.

"I don't want to hurt you, Selene," Lucian said softly, his voice thick with something that felt almost like regret. "I want you to understand. This isn't about what either of us wants. It's about what has to happen. What fate demands."

"Fate?" She scoffed, though there was a tremor in her voice. "Fate didn't ask me if I wanted this. Fate didn't ask me if I wanted to be your mate. This is a curse, Lucian. A curse."

Lucian's eyes darkened, a flicker of something fierce and possessive flashing across his features. "You think I wanted this?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous. "You think I asked for a mate tied to me by the moon's curse? I didn't. But it doesn't matter. It's done. And we'll deal with it together."

"I don't need you," she said, but even as the words left her mouth, she knew they were hollow. The truth was that the bond between them-no matter how much she resisted-was there. And it would never go away.

Lucian stepped back, a deep sigh escaping his lips. "Maybe not now. But you will. Eventually."

The words sent a shiver down her spine. She wanted to deny them, wanted to scream at him that she would never accept him, never accept this. But deep down, a voice whispered in her mind that Lucian was right. There was something unbreakable between them. A connection forged long before they had even met.

"I don't want this," she whispered, her voice barely audible, her chest tightening with the weight of the truth.

Lucian didn't respond right away. He simply watched her, as though weighing her words against his own. And then, finally, he spoke again.

"You don't have to want it, Selene. But you will have to accept it. And soon."

Before she could respond, he turned and disappeared into the shadows, his presence lingering in the air long after he was gone. Selene stood there, trembling, her mind racing with the implications of what he had said.

Fate.

The war.

The prophecy.

Her role in all of it.

And Lucian.

Her mate.

For a long moment, Selene stood frozen in place, the forest around her silent once more. The wind picked up, rustling the leaves, but it couldn't drown out the roar of her thoughts. The reality of what Lucian had told her was beginning to sink in. The weight of it, of the bond, of their fates being entwined, was more than she could bear.

And in the stillness of the night, with only the light of the moon to guide her, Selene realized one thing with chilling clarity:

There was no escaping the storm that was coming.
