Chapter 1 Funny stranger

Amy

I have everything ready for my stay at home for the weekend. Everybody else always has plans for the weekend. I have plans too. They may not be equally interesting but fun is not in my list of priorities. I have better things to do: a future to build.

Okay, you may call me nerdish but I don't care. I have heard that a lot in my life. Maybe half of it. Or all of it. It's not hideous that I like to keep things in order. I like knowing what to do next or else I would end up a wreck of nerves!

I open the door of my small apartment. The door creaks and loniless echoes through the entire building.

"Home sweet home," I mutter to myself.

I put away my newly bought novel on the bedside table. Yeah: that was the plan I was talking about. I have a book I am editing on my laptop. I work for a publishing company and I am lucky to be paid to work from home. This comes with many advantages including reading free novels. I love my job.

Saturday evening, my eyes are paining from staying indoors and staring at my computer screen all day. I could use some fresh air. I grab a cardigan and get out of the house.

The evening is cool and quiet. The sun has gone down and darkness has started getting thick. Maybe taking a walk around the neighborhood in the middle of the night is not a good idea. What could possibly go wrong?

A few steps from my apartment and the darkness has begun growing thicker. I have just been in this neighborhood for two months and I never saved time to look around. The woodland surrounding the neighborhood is quite large. I only got a glance at the woods from a distance. I never got this near.

Very few people pass by me as I walk like a deranged woman towards the woods.

This is not a good idea. I should probably go back home and cuddle up in my bed before something that I will regret happens.

"Are you lost," a voice thunders from my shoulder. I nearly loose my mind. I turn immediately and there stands a broad shouldered, tall and well buit man. His face remains neutral as I stare at him wide eyed. How can someone look so hot in the darkness? Am I seeing well or have I already lost my mind? I blink rapidly and my throat goes dry.

"I don't see people walking into woodlands in the dark," he says.

"I wasn't going in there," I say.

"Looked like it," he says pointing at me with his chin.

"I was just getting a closer look," why am I explaining myself to a stranger?

"I wouldn't recommend that," he says.

"What?" I wonder. "Getting a closer look?"

"No, walking into woodlands in the middle of the night," he replies.

"I said I wasn't walking into the woods. It just got dark," I almost scream.

"Wow! We just met and we are already arguing," he says and rolls his eyes.

"You started it," I say flatly.

"I was just looking out for you. Why would anyone just watch someone walk into the woods in the darkness?"

"You know what? You are so annoying," I say, not knowing what else to say.

"You are welcome," he says and smiles, dimples showing on either side of his cheeks. I can't help but stare at his face.

"Can I walk you home? Where do you live?" his question gets me off guard.

"Why would you do that?"

"Because I want to," he replies as if it is the most obvious answer.

"I just met you a few seconds ago."

"Doesn't matter."

Something tells me that I just met this guy and I should not just trust him. What could he possibly do? He was stubborn and all but he is sweet enough to offer to walk me home. Why would I shut him off and walk through the chilly darkness alone?

"Okay," I say.

"Thought so," he smirks. I can't stop myself from smiling.

We walk slowly to the apartment block as my mind haunts me with questions about why am walking with this stranger. I push them away and lock them in a cupboard.

"Do you live alone?" He asks as we approach the apartment block.

"Yeah," I reply.

"Why? Where is your family?"

"Just a rebellion of independence," I reply. He stops walking and I laugh my ridiculous answer.

"I knew you wouldn't be serious," he says.

"I finished college and got a job in this area. I had to leave my family to be near the company," I say.

"Oh, you sound serious about your job," he says.

"That I am," I reply.

"What do you do then?"

"I'm an editor of a DM Publishing Company," I reply proudly.

"That sounds fun."

"It is," I say.

We reach my place and stop on the door. I get my keys and open the door. I look back at him and he smiles at me. I've already fallen in love with those cute dimples on his cheeks.

"I guess I have to say goodnight now," he says.

"You didn't even tell me your name," I smile shyly and am sure a blush covers my face.

"Jace," he says simply. "What about you?"

"I'm Amy," I say.

"Well, it was nice meeting you Amy. I hope I get to see you again soon," he says and my heart flutters.

"Me too," I can't stop the smile that covers my face as I say that.

"Good night, Amy," he says.

"Good night, Jace," I say to make sure I got his name right.

I open the door slowly and step inside. I have to stop myself from inviting him in. I look back at him and he waves. I smile and close the door. The farmiliar quietness welcomes me. I slide slowly onto the floor and it takes all my self-control to not open that door and tell Jace to take me wherever he wants.

Chapter 2 Can't stay away

Jace

I am grinning like a fool when I come from Amy's apartment block. what the hell is wrong with me? I just met a girl, not forgetting in the middle of the night, and I am excited like hell! Maybe my werewolf hormones are catching up with me.

When I get home, the house is silent. The park must be busy out in the woods. I have to go out to get something for dinner so I can burn off this excess energy. I feel very vibrant I could run one mile per minute.

Air rushes through the fur of my wolf as I run through the woods to find the rest of my park. Memories of Amy walking by herself flood in my mind making it so hard for me to focus. What was she thinking. She gave me all that crap of explanation but I can't help worrying about her safety. She could have gotten herself into trouble.

"Hey man, you look buttered tonight," Jose teases as we walk together in the woods.

"Do I?" I ask.

"No doubt," he says while shrugging his shoulders.

"Where have you been?," he asks. He cocks his head to one side and studies my face.

"No where," I say. He chuckles.

"What?" I ask. "Since when do I explain my whereabouts to you?"

"Stop pouting," he says. "You have been with a girl. Admit it."

I didn't even hug her.

"Don't be shy," he presses.

"Disappear," I shove him off.

"Is she hot?" he asks.

"I am not sharing my relationship issues with you."

"Whoa! You are already in a relationship with her. It isn't fair that we haven't even met her."

Damn it! Why am I always saying the most wrong words.

"I am not in a relationship with her," I try diverting the conversation. "I just met her."

"I can't wait to meet her. She sounds so hot," he says with a beaming grin on his face.

"I haven't even said a single word about her," I say.

"Calm down. I am a mated wolf so don't worry about me. I wouldn't dare eye your girl. I'm fine with Sofia." Did he just wink at me?

In my bed, I just roll about sleeplessly. I wonder what Amy is doing. This is crappy crazy. What just happened to me? Here I am, wondering about a girl I just met right now. What did she do to me?

After a sleepless night, my body is exhausted. I need to see Amy. I just have to. I can't handle it anymore. Just one glance at her and I will go.

I know I look crazy when I stand infront of the apartment early in the morning. I can't just go and knock at her door. What will she do? What will she think of me?

I just lean against the wall outside the building as I think clearly of a plan. A plan that will not make me look like an utter fool.

I stand there for like an hour without getting any good plan together in my head. Damn it! She could probably be still asleep.

Just as I turn on my heel to leave, a movement catches my eyes. Amy walks out of the apartment and immediately stops when she sees me. The surprise is clear in her eyes that she did not expect to see me.

"What are you doing here?" she asks as she walks towards me.

"Well, good morning," I decide to be a jerk instead. She rolls her eyes and I can't help but smile at her reaction.

"Good morning," she says.

"That sounds nicer," I say.

"I am not surprised at all," she says.

"Surprised by what?"

"The fact that you have to be a jerk to me."

"Is that what you think of me? I'm hurt," I make a fake impression by putting my hands on my chest.

"Like I would buy that," she laughs, and that is the most beautiful sound.

"You don't have to," I say.

"I wasn't planning," she says as a matter of fact. I laugh and she joins me.

"You seemed to be waiting for someone when I found you here," she says.

"I was," I say.

"Why don't you go in?"

"I don't have to."

"Why?"

"I just saw her."

"What? Did she just leave?" she looks around the place.

"No, I wanted to see you, Amy," I had to say that.

"Um, why?" confusion is clear on her face.

"I missed you," I answer sincerely.

"Why?" she chews nervously on her bottom lip.

"I have no hell of an idea why but I really had to see you." Her eyes such mine for sincerity. I'm expecting her to burst in laughter and call me butt crazy but she she just utters an "oh" and kicks slowly at the ground.

I don't like this emotional shit going on inside me. As I look at this girl, all I feel is unfathomable peace that I have never felt before. I just don't want to leave her.

"Do you have any plans today?" I finally ask. Maybe that is what I should have said from the very beginning instead of acting like a total jerk.

"Not really. I just have a novel to read," her cheeks heat up as she tells me her boring plans for the day.

"You don't seem that busy," I want to slap myself for saying that.

"We can hangout and tour around the place," I finally say something sensible.

Amy looks thoughtful for a minute and my heart races.

"Okay," she finally says. I let out a breath I had no idea I was holding.

"Good," I say.

"Let me first go back in and prepare myself," she says and walks back into the apartment.

I can't believe I just did that. I am as sweaty as hell! Since when do I get nervous about talking with girls? This better goes well. I hope Jose doesn't give me crap about it. It is just a walk. I hope I don't freak out. Why is she taking forever to get ready?

Chapter 3 Raised by a park of wolves

Amy

What the hell just happened? I just accepted to spend my day with Jace, that's it. What about the book I have to edit on my computer? I will surely need a lot of catching up to do after this. I can't just turn him down after showing up at my apartment early in the morning. I have to loosen up. I can't just keep myself locked up in this apartment with my thoughts running wild about dimpled cheeks when I can spend the day watching them. I don't want to live in hiding anymore.

"I thought you wouldn't come out of there," Jace says as I meet him where I left him out of the apartment.

"What did you think I was doing?" I ask out of mere curiosity.

"Having second thoughts," he replies.

"That crossed my mind," I tell him.

"But you still came?"

"Yes, for some strange reason I like your company," I tell him and he chuckles lightly. We begin walking across the street.

"Where do you want to go?" he asks.

"Where were you planning on taking me?" I ask.

"I could take you to lots of places," he says.

"Such as..." I press.

"The woods," he replies with a smirk.

"I thought they were out of bounds," I reply with an equal smirk.

"Are you smirking at me?" he asks while cocking his head to one side.

"I hope so," I reply

"I thought I am the one who does that," he smiles.

"Who said you could and I couldn't?" I say.

"Are we going to stand here all day and give each other comebacks or what?" he inquires. I just smile.

The morning air is refreshing. It isn't that early though. The small town looks busy and everyone is going about their own businesses. I can't help but admire the beauty of the town. I have been in the town for over a month but walking around it with Jace by my side is a thousand times better.

Jace being Jace, he keeps giving the strangest descriptions of places making me smile the whole time and my cheeks hurt. He seems very farmiliar with this place.

"How long have you lived here?" I can't help but ask.

"Since I was born," he replies.

"No doubt you are very farmiliar with this place," I say.

"Unlike you who was walking herself into the woods," he says with a raised eyebrow. I swat his arm.

"Will you give that up. What's with you and those woods?" I ask.

"We're you never warned about dangerous creatures that lives in woods?"

"What kind of creatures could possibly live near this town?"

"A lot," he replies.

"You mean like wolves and hyenas?" I ask with a laugh.

"Yes, but hyenas excluded. I haven't seen any around this place," he replies with a serious tone that makes me want to roll my eyes.

"Wolves? Like normal wolves or werewolves? Which ones have you seen?"

"Both," he says.

"You've ever seen a werewolf. Like those from the novels and TV?" I ask.

"Yes but more realistic," he replies.

"Oh, maybe I should be more careful this time," I say sarcastically.

"You have no regard for your personal safety, " he says as he shakes his head.

"So you mean I could have been eaten by a wolf or something," I say.

"Yes," he replies.

"Are they that dangerous?" I ask.

"Some yes," he says. "Others are good wolves."

"How do you know that?" I ask.

"I was raised by a park of wolves," he says with a grin.

"Like for real?"

"Yes," his face is serious. Jace jokes a lot and it's very confusing for me to know whether he is serious or not. This whole wolf thing is giving me chills. How can a human being be raised by a park of wolves?

"You are overthinking the situation," Jace breaks through my reverie.

"No I am not," I lie.

"Your nose has become longer," he says with a dimpled smile. I am tempted to look at my nose which is ofcourse the normal size.

"Pinocchio?" I raise a brow at him.

"Hey, I also read some books," he says.

"I can see that," I say.

"Do you want to have some late breakfast?" he asks. "I know a great place."

"Sure," I reply.

The restaurant was a nice place and the food was amazing. I have to note it down so that I can come here more often.

"I had a nice time," I tell Jace as we walk back to the apartment.

"Me too," he replies.

"We should go back another time. it will be my treat this time," I tell him in hopes of getting to spend with him some time after today.

"Sure," he says. I almost jump about out of excitement but I manage to keep my cool.

"Okay," I say with a smile.

"Do you want to go home now," he asks. Oh, no. I thought we were going to spend the whole day together.

"It's still early," I say.

"It is. Where do you want to go?" he asks.

"Anywhere," I say. A smile covers his face and his dimples show. I hope I didn't sound too desperate.

"Anywhere, Amy? Are you sure?" I can imagine different locations running in his mind.

"Show me where you live," I say.

"Are you sure? I told you I was raised by a pack of wolves," he says.

"Wolves or people, I don't care," I say with a shrug.

"Okay, it's your funeral," he chuckles.

"I don't they will be as savage as you make them sound," I tell him.

"I never said they were savages," he says.

"That is the picture you gave me," I tell him.

"I am not to blame for what pictures your mind makes out of situations," he says flatly.

"Do you really have to call your family a pack of wolves?" I ask.

"That is what they are," his tone is serious. I just roll my eyes at his seriousness.
