Eloise's p.o.v
I woke with a gasp.Sweat covered my body from head to toe."It's just a dream." I mumbled to myself, trying to shake off the dreadful feeling I had.
The dreams started to become more frequent when I turned fifteen.
My mom tried all she could to make me believe that it was nothing, but at some point around that age, she couldn't hide it much longer.
∆∆flashback∆
"Mum!!! I had yelled, running into her room with so much fear, "Mum, mom." "I had a dream again," I said, running into my mom's room with so much panic."Honey, it's just a dream."
"Come on," she tried to coax me, just like she always did."No!" I yelled out, still in panic. "It's not nothing."
You always say that.
I saw the blood. Dad was pale! You were bleeding out! And there was nothing I could do about it.
There was war, mom! There was war! My voice was breaking with each sentence."And then... and then." I started to hyperventilate. Everything started to get blurry."Calm down." I felt my dad's hand around me in a calming manner.
"It's okay, bunny. "Dad's here." I clung to him, taking deep breaths. It was that night that my mom told me who I was.A seer.I was numb.
I thought I always had a weird medical condition that made me have weird dreams.
What was even more shocking was that my mom was a witch.Or an ex-witch. Something about giving up her powers for my dad"One thing, love," my mom said with her thick British accent as she pushed my hair to the side. As she looked deep into my eyes.
"Stay away from supernaturals." Of any kind. " She never told me why, and I never dared ask.
I was too scared to know the reason why. All I knew was that flash back overThe notification on my phone snapped me out of my thoughts as I dressed to go to work.
I slipped on my contacts and wore my wig. This was my life. I could not go out how I wanted.
My mom was always so paranoid. She thought my eyes were too gray. I would be noticed as a seer immediately, and I would be killed on sight.
My hair was another feature that could not be hidden. It was a prominent feature among seers.
But then again, there weren't many of them to begin with, mainly because they were killed before they even got the chance to find out who they really were.
"Mum, I'm off to work!" I yelled as I hurriedly left the house after getting another notification from Anna, my best friend, threatening me with how she was going to leave me to walk to work if I wasted one more moment of her time.
"Take care, bunny," my dad answered as I walked out the door.I never owned a car.It happened when I was sixteen.
I had a vision of me driving, and then I was off. I stood at the end of the cliff, screaming for help.
The vision was not clear, but it became more and more vivid each time I sat in the driver's seat of a car.
It became terrifying, so I decided it was not worth it."There you are, bitch!" Anna screamed from the other side of the road, inside her white Toyota Camry.
"Hello to you too, love," I said as I entered the car. "Do you know how long I waited for you?" "I swear I saw the apocalypse and the world end as I waited for you," she said. I rolled my eyes at how dramatic she was being.
"Can we just get moving?" I rolled my eyes at her. She handed me a cup of coffee, which I was grateful for.A perfect way to start the day.
I moaned a bit as the taste of caffeine hit my taste buds."Careful. "I don't want to clean up cologne from my car seat!" she squealed."Anna!" I looked at her with wide eyes.
I have known Anna since my school days, when I moved here. She had a potty mouth. It was a mystery how we both got along."I am just saying!" she laughed, pulling her hair back as she laughed."Just drive!" I growled.
Anna was human. She was my very first friend when I moved here. I was bullied a lot because people saw me as weird, but she always stood up for me.She had brown eyes and brown, almost dark eyes. She looked "normal and not fun," as she liked to call herself.
But I saw quite the opposite. What she didn't have in looks, she made up for in character, and honestly, it was best that way.
At least she knew that she was not being chased after by guys for her looks. At this thought, my mood dropped."Don't tell me you're thinking of George."
Anna cut into my thoughts."What?" "What would make you think that?""You heaved a deep sigh, you looked out the window, and your voice went up a notch when I asked," she smirked.
Sometimes, I really hated the fact that she knew too much about me."Pfftttttt... no, I wasn't." I looked away.
"Yes, you are, Ely, but seriously, he wasn't worth it." You'll find someone better. "Trust me," she said, giving me a sad gaze. Well, as much as she could while she was driving."Plusssss," she said, wiggling her brows.
"You have a date tonight!" she squealed."I don't want to go," I said, looking away. I wanted George. Who was my high school sweetheart? I wanted him to sweep me off my feet, as he promised me.
He promised to always be there for me.
"You can't still be saying that! He cheated on you! "He doesn't deserve you." Anna tried to reason. He cheated on me with his supposed "cousin," and any normal person would want nothing to do with him.
But I wanted it so damn badly to be a joke. There must be a reasonable explanation. I told myself that."I know Anna. But you don't know him like I do.
The way he smiled and how he broke down when his family threw him out-I was there.
I saw the vulnerable side of him. I can't just..." I had to take a deep breath so that I wouldn't break down in tears.
There was no way I was going to let my contacts fall out now and risk being asked questions, nor was I going to let my makeup get smeared.
"Well, you know who else saw him vulnerable?" His cousin! It was obvious she was starting to get pissed, and for very good reasons.
"You know what? You would go on this date." At least loosen up a little. All I am asking is to have a little fun; anyone who knew Anna knew not to argue with her.
For peace's sake. So, I just kept quiet and let the silence flow between us as she drove us to the office.
We reached the office. At this point, I just wanted to get the day over with. Thinking of George had ruined the day for me."Eloise," Anna called, stopping me from coming down from the car.
"Look, I am sorry for yelling at you. "It's just that..." she took a deep breath and looked at me. "It's been three weeks, Ely.
It breaks my heart to see you this way. He doesn't deserve your tears. "You deserve someone better, and I know that," she said, looking at me straight in the eyes now.
I nodded my head, too focused on not crying my eyes out at the moment."You can let it out. Bottling all these emotions is not good for you," she said in a low and very calming voice.
"We'll be late," I said, trying to smile. "And you are right."
"He doesn't deserve my tears," I said more to myself than to her. She seemed to like the confidence I tried to put on because she gave me a soft smile."There you go," she said, smiling at me. She pulled me into a hug.
"You are still going for the date this evening, you know," I said, rolling my eyes even though she could not see me.
"Of course," I said in a sarcastic voice. We walked straight into the building. There was no way I was going to concentrate at work now, but I still appeared anyway. It was better that I was here than away.
The Lord knows what my boss would say if I were to skip work, even on a sick day.I walked into the elevator with Anna chatting in my ear at my back.
I could care less about what she was saying, but I made sure to nod my head and say a little "hmm" and "yeah" any chance I could get.
Just before the doors closed, a guy entered. His aura seemed off. His skin-the part I could see from under the suit-was pale, too pale.
"Good day," he said, turning back to greet us.I almost lost my footing because I moved back a little.
I saw his sharp teeth as he grinned.A vampire."Stay away from supernaturals!" My mother's warning ran through my head.I looked around the elevator.
There was no way out."Fuck!" I screamed internally."Are you okay?" Anna looked at me with worried eyes."Super!" I said, taking a deep breath.
"I just can't breathe." It happened a lot. When I got too overwhelmed. When I got overwhelmed, I went into a panic."Miss, are you alright?" He said this, looking at me with those dangerous eyes and sharp fangs.I looked at the wall behind him.
"He was getting off on the next floor," I tried to tell myself."ye.. yeah" Just in time, the door opened, and he walked out, causing me to take a deep breath.
"Were you okay?" "You nearly scared me," Anna said, not knowing what to do."Yes. "The guy, he is a super..." I cut myself off.
Sometimes, I felt like I was being a bad friend since she did not know anything about my life and she was my best friend.
"Super what?" She looked at me, oddly confused."A super cute guy." Like damn! "He really made me lose my ability to breathe for a moment," I said, laughing awkwardly.
"You know, babe, sometimes I think I'm the same one among us," she said, patting my back and talking like I was a little kid.
You have no idea how right you are. I thought to myself as we both came out of the elevator.
I walked to my office."Hey guys," I said, receiving a series of mumbles in return."Almara," one of my colleagues called my surname, halting me in my tracks. "The boss has been looking for you." He said this, wiggling his brows.
I tried as much as possible not to let out the frustrated sigh I was holding in."Great". I said it through my teeth and walked to my boss's office.
I hated my boss. He was one of the most self-absorbed people I have ever met. He did not know how to own up to his mistakes and always blamed everyone else for them.
"This is my trusted assistant." He said he was showing me off like I was a trophy. I was used to it, but that didn't mean that I liked it.
My curvy shape and pale skinI couldn't complain, though. My unique features are what got me this job. "Me having brains was just a bonus.""Good day, sirs." I greeted him professionally.
I could not help but notice how the youngest one among them looked at me from up to down. It made me cringe internally. He seemed tall from how he sat, and he had honey blonde hair and the deepest blue eyes.
"Almara, these are our newest partners." You would be taking Eric to the restaurant that's about to open since he would be the direct partner with that particular branch.
"I nodded my head, taking a mental note of all I had to do."If that would be all, sir," I said, and he waved his hands dismissively at me."Kiss your ass," I mumbled under my breath. I hated my boss, but the pay was good.
So I really could not do anything about it. I went into my cubicle in an office and sat down.
I started preparing a schedule of my boss's activities when I heard an awkward cough, followed by the feeling I felt not too long ago.
"Hi," the voice called out, startling me a bit."Hello!" I called, looking anywhere to see if anyone was around. There was no one.
Of course there wasn't. This floor was strictly for the boss and his associates."Are you lost?" "Looking for something?" I said this as he came closer to me.
He was walking towards me in a predatory manner."I was wondering; you look stunning."
His pale skin seemed to look more papery this morning. His thirsty.I realised this with panic. There was no way I was going to be drunk in public.
I was going to be seen as the freak who let another freak eat!"Would you mind if I maybe wanted to grab lunch later on?""She wouldn't," a soft but stern voice called from behind him.
I released a breath I did not even know I was holding.
Leave," the guy from earlier said.It sounded like a growl, but honestly, I could care less. As long as he gets this guy out of here."I'll be back, love," he said, smiling at me.
"Hi, he looked as though he was bothering you," he said with a drool-worthy smile."Thank you," I said, nodding my head. I got back to work.
It was only a matter of time before my boss started yelling about his schedule.
"What's your name?" he asked, still standing at the door."Almara," I said, still in a professional voice."I think I deserve a first name, don't you think?" I mean, I just saved you from that creep.
He gave off a weird vibe, and the more I looked into his aura, the more I realised that he wasn't human.
Well, this wasn't good.I thought to myself as I looked at him from across the table.
"You look pretty," he said after a moment of awkward silence. He looked at me again with that predatory look he had in the office."You know, it's rude to stare at people like that."
"It's termed disrespectful," I said, trying to sound as professional as possible when, in reality, I wanted to give him a piece of my mind and tell him to fuck off.
"Really? "And how am I staring at you?" He had this amusing look on his face.I bit back the irritation that threatened to surface.
"Like your mother didn't raise you right," I smiled. Anyone could see that it was a dark and pretentious smile.
"You know, your boss seems to think so highly of you." He walked closer to me in the enclosed space.
"It would be a shame if he were to fire you because I said something bad about you. "And trust me, I can be very persuasive," he said with this deceitful smile.
"So darling," he said, bending over the table to look me straight in the eye. "What's your name?"Something about the way he asked me the second time made me realise that he wasn't kidding about his earlier threat.
"Eloise," I cursed myself mentally for stammering."Eloise," he repeated. The way my body shivered as he pronounced my name made me shiver.
"Would you like to go out with me for dinner?""I would rather eat dust," I said in a painfully polite voice.
"I see," he said, smiling. At this point, I wanted nothing more than to wipe the smile off his face with a slap.
"I'll hold you up to that.""If you'll excuse me, sir," I said, walking out the door without even waiting for him to say another word.
I was not even sure if I was going to be able to hold myself back from smacking him across the face if he looked at me with those stupid eyes or said another comment.
"Have a good day, beautiful," he said, standing close to me as I reached him beside the door.
Eric's p.o.v
She was perfect.Everything I could not even imagine in a partner. She looked like she was not going to take sh*t from anyone. And that made me want her even more. Her scent.
A mixture of sandalwood and vinegar. It was an odd combination, but for some reason, it drew me in like a moth to a flame.
I wanted her, I needed her, and my whole being craved having her by my side.
My wolf was going crazy the instant she walked into the room. It was displeased by the dress she was wearing. It showed her curves, something that is for my eyes and mine only.
No other man deserved to see the curves. Her voice. It calmed my wolf in ways I didn't even know were possible. And that was saying a lot since my wolf was known to be the most aggressive wolf.
I walked back to the main office; we could see where the rest of the staff was."He should be around here somewhere," I thought to myself as I scanned the room.
"Bingo," I said to myself as I slowly walked to the guy."Would you have a minute?" I said, looking at him innocently.
He seemed scared."A changeling," I thought to myself."Look, dude," he stammered, looking for a way to escape.
"I said a minute!" I spoke in a low, stable voice. He walked to a quiet place, away from prying ears."Now here's how it's going to be," I said, smiling.
I could see the fear building up.
"You see that cute blondie you tried to kill a while back? "You would not touch her, you would not walk in her direction, and you would not even smell her.
Or else," I let my wolf out there for a slight moment. "You and I are going to be having some issues."
"Do you get it?"My voice came out deeper and harsher than I expected, but then again, it was more of my wolf in control than I was.
"I get you," he said, and he scrambled out of my sight. I heaved a sigh. The scent of my friend lingered in the air."A minute more, my love." I thought as I smiled more at myself.
This was the most I had smiled in a long time. She was unknowingly changing my world. Even without her knowing.......
Eloise's p.o.v
It went from annoying to more annoying for me as the day went by. There was no way to hide my irritation at the end of the day.
"Did you take Eric around the new restaurant as I said today, Almara?" I took a deep breath twice before I answered, before I said the wrong thing."No, Mr. Tinch." I spoke in a professional voice.
"Are you crazy?" He is going to be one of our biggest partners! I clearly told you to leave your work today and show him around! "You are nothing but an empty head!"I bit my tongue.
I needed the money to get a new place and move out of the house. He was not worth ruining my plans for.
"If not for your beauty and body, you would be pretty useless to me," I said, snapping my eyes at him.He made it sound as though we were fucking.
I gagged at the thought.I would rather sell my organs than be with him that way.
"You told me to follow you through the day!" Almara, get me this! Almara, get me that! "You know, maybe, just maybe," I said, holding my tongue.
It was becoming more and more difficult to keep my irritation away from him."I'll deal with your attitude in a minute," he said as he brought his phone out of his pocket to pick up a call.
Well, I guess I'm bumping into you again, huh?" Eric said he was coming to stand beside me.I rolled my eyes at him.
"What do you want?" I said, not even bothering to sound polite. Something about him made me relax to the point that I could care less whether I was polite or not around him.
"Would you believe if I said I missed you?" he said with that stupid smile."Oh, please, spare me.""Very well then.
You promised me a day at the restaurant and a dinner. "I was told to find you here; guess I was right," he smiled at me.
"As we were saying," my boss said, walking back to me with a scowl on his face."Sir, I hope you wouldn't mind if I stole Eloise for a moment."
"She owes me." The look on my boss's face turned from friendliness to a smile."Oh! I wouldn't mind.
Make sure you show him the places with the best view." He said, "Turning away."I couldn't help but roll my eyes."shall we?" Eric said he was stretching his hands for me to hold.
I put my hand in his and froze for a moment.Different images flashed through my mind in an instant.
It was between me and him. We were both happy.
Another image of us kissing and another of us being cosy, We seemed to be living in the same house."Let's go," I said, shaking my head to try and get rid of the images.
