Chapter 1 A Painful Revelation

After a long and exhausting day at work, I slumped into my bed, my hair covering my face. I drifted into sleep, completely oblivious to the fact that I still had my shoes and clothes on.

My peaceful rest was abruptly disrupted by the chime of my phone. Swiftly, I reached for it to check the message. The sender was an unknown number, but the message simply said, "Hey, babe, I'm back. Let's meet at Morgan Guest house. I have a surprise for you."

I was surprised, "Why would Dylan text me with a different line? Could he have lost his phone?" I thought to myself.

Anyway, that doesn't matter. All I care about now is seeing the love of my life, whom I hadn't seen in nearly a year.

Dylan had planned to propose to me earlier last year, but along the way, he traveled to England for his master's degree with a promise to propose upon his return.

Filled with excitement, I eagerly texted back, "Can't wait to see you too, honey," I exclaimed with a radiant smile on my face.

Yawning, I rose from the bed, my mind racing with thoughts about the surprise awaiting me. I absentmindedly rubbed my chin, trying to anticipate what it might be. It suddenly dawned on me, "Could today be the day?" I mused, a gentle smile forming on my face.

I quickly took a shower, got dressed, and then headed to my car. I drove to a gift shop to pick up a welcome back package for Dylan. Dylan appreciates thoughtful gifts, and I like surprising him when he returns from a long trip as it's my unique way of showing my love.

After obtaining the gift, I rushed back to my car and made my way to the Morgan Guest house.

I held a gift bag and a cake box, bearing a sign that read, "Welcome home, my love." Overjoyed, I hummed my favorite song.

As the elevator reached the second floor, I stepped out and made my way to Dylan's room.

Dylan had a favorite room in the guest house, so I headed directly to it. The entire hallway was eerily quiet, and I wanted to surprise Dylan, so I deliberately slowed my pace.

Upon reaching the room, I cautiously attempted to unlock the door using the spare key Dylan had given me. To my surprise, the door was slightly ajar, and I could hear faint noises emanating from inside.

I stood there in disbelief, my eyes fixed on the door, and I slowly pushed it open. To my astonishment, the room was empty, but the sounds were becoming more distinct.

"Harder, Dylan. Oh, yes!"

A woman's voice echoed from Dylan's bathroom, creating an undeniable sense of ambiguity in the air.

I felt like I was on the verge of fainting; my vision spun, and I couldn't comprehend anything.. Despite my self-doubt, I grasped the situation.

"This can't be," I thought. "Did I make a mistake? Maybe I went to the wrong room, but this is room number 307, Dylan's favorite room. Perhaps he decided to move to a different room." My body moved on its own as I entered the parlor, where I unmistakably heard Dylan's voice.

"I love you so much, baby. I love you with all my heart."

But disbelief gripped me. I couldn't understand that the man I'd loved since middle school could do this to me. He couldn't, he absolutely couldn't.

This voice belonged to Dylan. Even if it had been ten or twenty years, I would still recognize it clearly.

"I love you too, Dylan. But what about your brother, Adam? I'm still engaged to him. He'll be back today for the wedding in two days."

"You know how your brother's temper can be. If he finds out about us, he might do something foolish."

"He can't do anything. I'm his brother, and besides, you're carrying my baby. My grandfather wants a grandson. If he finds out, he'll definitely help us convince Adam."

"And what about Charlotte?"

"Forget about that fool. If her father hadn't assisted me a few years ago, I would have sacked her from the Morgan Group a while back.

Eleanor, you're the only one I love. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and our baby.

I gave ten years of my life to Dylan, loving him wholeheartedly for ten years. However, what did I receive in return? Betrayal and backstabbing.

Disappointment welled up in my eyes, causing tears to stream down, obscuring my view. The cake I was holding slipped from my hand, tumbling to the ground, along with my basket of welcome home packages containing snacks, sweets, and perfume."

Tears continued to flow down my face as I managed a bittersweet smile amidst emotional turmoil. My heart ached deeply, and I struggled to catch my breath.

"Dylan!" I shouted hysterically, unable to hold back my tears. "You heartless bastard! How could you do this to me?"

"Why would you do this? You invited me to come see you, knowing full well what you had in mind to do. Is this the surprise you mentioned? I certainly got the surprise, and guess what, you did well," I said, clearly frustrated.

Dylan and his lover remained silent, still trying to figure out who it might be.

After a moment, the bathroom door swung open from the inside, revealing Dylan's calm demeanor as he stepped out, wrapped in only a white towel.

Upon seeing me, tears streamed down my face. He cleared his throat twice and approached me with a slight frown.

Since you've already found out, there's no need for further explanation.

The truth is, I've never loved you, Charlotte. I've always seen you as my younger sister. Eleanor is the only person I have feelings for.

My eyes welled up with large tears, gazing at the person i had loved for ten years, still holding onto a glimmer of hope.

"I have just one question," I said.

"Alright, go ahead," Dylan replied.

"Did you ever truly love me? Over the past ten years, was there any love in your heart for me?" I fixed her gaze upon Dylan , my hands clenched in fists.

"I'm sorry, but I have never loved you Charlotte!"

A sharp sound cut through the air as my hand met Dylan's cheek. Tears streamed down my face.

"Dylan ! For ten long years, I've loved you. You should've confessed once during that time, I wouldn't have clung to this hope.

Why did you keep me in the dark until now?" I tightly gripped his towel and shouted in anger.

"Dylan , did you intentionally do this? Did you and that woman come here with the purpose of testing my feelings for you?"

I felt as if my world had crumbled entirely. I couldn't understand this reality.

I struggled to rip at Dylan's towel, but upon spotting those bite marks on his body, my heart shattered, and tears of despair streamed down my face.

"Charlotte , please, calm down," Dylan implored, his brow furrowing.

"Hey you, Dylan has already confessed that he doesn't love you anymore. There are plenty of good men out there. It's time to let go," Eleanor, draped in Dylan's shirt and boxers, approached us with her long, bare legs. She confidently placed a hand on his shoulder and gazed disdainfully at me.

Eleanor's words once again stoked my anger.

I turned to Eleanor , who was standing by my side. I gripped Eleanor's arm, my gaze fixed on her, and I shouted, "It was you. You're the one who seduced him, right?" My grip on Eleanor's arm remained tight.

My expression appeared shattered as I continued, "Dylan ! It hurts so much."

Eleanor glanced at Dylan , wearing a hurt expression.

"Charlotte , let go! Eleanor is pregnant!"

Dylan reached out to push me away, concerned for Eleanor and the unborn child.

My grip on Eleanor remained unyielding, as if I had expended all my strength.

Dylan , fearing for Eleanor's safety, decisively pushed me away.

I staggered a few steps, caught completely off guard, and tumbled backward. There was a resounding thud as the back of my head collided with the table.

Luckily, as I descended to the ground, I swiftly extended my hand for support, preventing a harsh fall.

A sharp pain emanated from the back of my head, causing an involuntary frown.

My fingers reached to explore the area, encountering a sticky substance in my hair.

I held my hand up to my eyes and found it stained with blood.

I was shocked!

"Charlotte , are you alright?" Dylan was taken aback by the unexpected turn of events. He rushed to my side and extended his hand to help me up.

"Let her go!" A cold, male voice suddenly echoed from the doorway.

Chapter 2 A Twist of Fate

"Are you two not ashamed of yourselves?" Adam said with a cold, demeaning tone as his driver gently pushed him into the room. "Clap for yourselves."

I turned my gaze toward the source of the voice and noticed a wheelchair parked by the room door.

Dylan's body trembled as he recognized the familiar voice. Eleanor , too, was stunned by the furious outburst, her eyes widening in disbelief.

It was Adam !

Her fiancé had returned unexpectedly early!

Seated in the wheelchair was a man with short hair and piercing eyes beneath thick eyebrows that gleamed with intensity. He glared angrily at the scene unfolding before him.

"Why are you here?" Dylan's mouth twitched as he stood there awkwardly, uncertain of what to do. He had always harbored a slight fear of Adam , and now, with the added guilt of wrongdoing, he felt even more ashamed.

Adam's gaze turned cold as he scrutinized his brother and Eleanor , who was dressed in a man's shirt. His eyes then shifted to the cake and the surprise package on the floor before settling on me , as I lay on the ground.

I arrived a few days ago, but I decided to keep my arrival a secret after I saw both of you leaving a hotel. My intention was to understand the situation. Once I obtained the information, I couldn't leave your girlfriend unaware of the person she was in a relationship with. I sent her a text, pretending it was from you. I'm sorry this had to be the surprise I orchestrated, but you needed to know the truth," Adam explained, gazing at me with pity.

I was utterly stunned, completely devoid of the strength to speak. So, I lay there, my head hanging low, much like a distressed dog.

Eleanor gasped, her mouth wide open, her hand instinctively covering it, clearly taken aback by Adam's revelation.

Meanwhile, Dylan appeared indifferent, standing still and glaring at Adam as if preparing for a confrontation.

"Help her up and take her to the hospital!" Adam ordered a man standing behind him, who appeared to be his driver, his tone unwavering.

"Yes, sir!" The man quickly rushed to my side, extending a hand to assist me and prepare to escort me to the hospital.

I stood up and gazed at Dylan who stood before me, my heart shattered. A pounding headache throbbed in my temples. Blood still trickled, but I was happy I now understood everything.

The man I had loved deeply... had mercilessly cast me aside for another woman! What more could I say?

"I can manage on my own, thank you," I said sadly, pushing the man's hand away.

Without even a glance at Dylan , I quietly left Dylan's room.

Adam was promptly wheeled away by his driver, leaving only Dylan and Eleanor in the room.

As I left Dylan's room, I carried my tote bag, feeling utterly helpless.

After ten years of being faithful to Dylan , this was what he paid me back with today! Blood streamed through my hair, staining my white dress. I was clearly enduring immense pain, yet I remained unfazed by it all.

No matter how painful my physical wound was, it couldn't compare to the overwhelming pain in my heart.

The elevator in front of me chimed as it opened. I entered it, feeling utterly numb. My body slumped against the elevator's wall, my gaze fixed on a bleak horizon.

Adam's driver gently guided Adam's wheelchair into the elevator as its doors slowly closed. Adam's expression remained icy and aloof. He wordlessly observed me for a moment before shifting his gaze away.

The elevator swiftly descended to the first floor, its doors opening at a deliberate pace. I stared blankly at the open doors, my despair evident.

Without delay, Adam was wheeled out of the elevator, heading towards the off-road vehicle parked at the guest house entrance.

I walked towards the guest house entrance. As I attempted to cross the path of the Land Rover and leave, the driver stopped me.

"Miss, you're injured. We should take you to the hospital first," the driver insisted.

I cast a glance at him , attempting to muster a smile, but it ended up more strained than cheerful. "Thank you! I'll be okay. I won't die!"

I tried to move my foot to leave, but a strong hand firmly gripped my arm. I turned to see Adam , whom I vaguely recognized from my occasional visit at the Morgan mansion.

"I'm alright..."

Although I wasn't well-acquainted with this man, I had encountered him a few times with the Morgan family and knew he was Dylan's older brother.

"Get in the car!" Adam's tone was stern.

"I really am okay..." I began, but I realized there was little I could do to break free from his firm grip.

"Miss, please get in the car! Your injury is on your head. If you don't treat it properly, your life will be in danger," the driver urged, standing by my side and opening the car door.

"If you want people to notice how heartbroken you are at the moment , you can choose to walk home on your own!" Adam released my hand, his expression impassive as he looked ahead.

I blinked weakly, and hesitated for a moment before lifting my foot and stepping into the car. The driver promptly closed the door and then guided Adam to the other side, helping him into the vehicle.

The Land Rover accelerated, quickly making its way toward the hospital. As we drove through the city, the scenery outside the window continuously changed.

However, my world felt meaningless. At this moment, unable to see or hear anything. It was as if all my memories had frozen at that recent scene.

I questioned myself, wondering if I had been foolish. A melancholic smile graced my lips, a smile so laden with sorrow that it tugged at one's heartstrings.

The car reached the hospital with surprising speed. I trailed behind the driver and the enigmatic man, my steps carrying me to the emergency room. There, the doctor attentively tended to my wound, prescribing necessary medication.

Roughly half an hour later, I settled into Adam 's Land Rover as we departed from the hospital.

About ten minutes into the drive, the vehicle halted in front of a Supermarket. The driver opened the car door and stepped out, leaving Adam , and I in the car.

"I remember your name is Charlotte , right?" Adam enquired.

I rarely came back home, but my brother Dylan frequently mentioned you.

"Yes..." I gazed out of the window at the sky and replied in a somewhat wooden tone.

"I returned this time to prepare for my wedding!"

"Okay..." I replied absentmindedly.

"The woman you saw in the office is my fiancée!"

"Okay..." I responded softly, my body tensing slightly. I then swiftly turned to look at the determined man and asked in surprise, "You just said that woman is your fiancée?"

Yes, she is.

It appeared as though I had just heard the news. It was because I was overwhelmed with sadness and couldn't find the time to react.

Adam wore an expressionless face, staring icily at me.

"The day after tomorrow is our wedding day..."

"A wedding?" I forced a sad smile and shook my head. My heart grew cold once more. Dylan , my fiance, had been involved with the woman, even expecting a child with her!

I had unknowingly loved such a person for ten long years!

"I've already sent out all the wedding invitations. The wedding must proceed as planned. I can't stand the shame of having my wedding canceled.

Although it's rather sudden, you are the most suitable person at this moment!

I'll give you a day to think it over. The day after tomorrow, you shall become my bride!"

I was taken aback by Adam's words, my disbelief evident in my gaze.

"Even if you can't accept what happened in the guest house just now, it's the truth. If you marry me, I'll provide everything you desire, except love."

"Are you joking with me?" I struggled to find the right expression as my thoughts spiraled into chaos. This unexpected situation left me confused.

The suddenness of it all left me momentarily unable to regain my composure.

Adam , with his sharp, cold demeanor, locked eyes with me. "You have one day to consider it. If you decide now, we can proceed with the registration."

This seemed like an insult to me. Does he believe I'm desperate to get married? What makes him think I would accept such an offer just hours after experiencing heartbreak with my ex?

I gazed into his eyes as he locked eyes with me, a faint smile gracing his face. I contemplated stepping out of the car, but something held me back. Perhaps, I pondered, this could be my chance for revenge on Dylan. Slowly, I leaned against the car seat, deep in thought.

Chapter 3 The Contract

"The man I love is with your fiancée, and if I marry you, don't you think this is too dramatic?"

I couldn't find words to describe my emotions at this moment. It all just seemed incredibly implausible.

"You only need to tell me your decision," Adam responded, retracting his gaze. A newfound resolve flickered in his eyes, a determination he had never displayed before.

"I won't marry you! I don't love you at all. Why should I marry you?" I blurted out without hesitation.

"You love him. So, as long as you marry me, you can see him every day! My legs are already paralyzed. Even if you marry me, I won't be able to touch you. We'd only have a nominal relationship!

I just can't accept this. Can you tolerate a situation like that?" I blurted out.

Adam gazed at me with an icy stare.

I found myself at a loss for words. Like any ordinary person, I had blood, flesh, and feelings. But I had also been deeply hurt by the man I had once loved so dearly. How could I possibly contain my anger?

"I want you to marry me because our situations are exactly the same," he continued, his voice unwavering. "There is no one else who can understand your feelings better than me.

We're meant to be together. Don't you feel any trace of jealousy? Once you become my wife, you'll be Dylan's sister-in-law. Just your presence alone will torment him invisibly."

He paused, his words hanging heavy in the air.

"After six months of marriage, we can divorce. I have a house in this city, and once we part ways, it'll be yours. I've said what needed to be said. You can leave the car now."

My hands were tightly clasped together, and my heart was in turmoil. Logically, I should have rejected his proposal, but the man's words had started to influence me.

"Can I really get a divorce at any time?" I questioned. How about satisfaction?

"In six months, as long as you mention it, I'll agree to it," he assured me.

"Our relationship is only in name," he continued. "I've lost the ability to be a husband in every sense. Physically, I can't satisfy you, but you can ask for anything else."

I looked at him and straightforwardly replied, "Sorry, that's not what I meant." I blushed and struggled to explain myself.

"This is an indisputable fact," Adam reassured me. "You don't have to apologize to me. I'm already accustomed to it. When can you give me an answer?"

"I don't know," i replied uncertainly.

"I shook my head, feeling utterly lost. My thoughts were tangled, leaving me uncertain of my next move. Adam gazed at me in silence before lowering the car window. Arthur, his driver promptly returned to the vehicle.

"Let's head back to the apartment," Adam instructed Arthur , his expression dark.

"Alright," Arthur replied, starting the car and driving toward Adam's apartment.

"Should we drop you at your place now?"

"Do you believe you can return home in your current condition?" Adam asked me coldly, studying me intently.

I turned my head to Adam , puzzled by his intentions. I shook my head helplessly once more."

Ever since my father passed away ten years ago, my mother had cherished me as the hope of her life, harboring a deep desire for me to marry into the Morgan Family. If i were to return today and reveal everything to my mother, the emotional impact would be more than she could bear.

I couldn't bring myself to go back.

"Drive!" Adam ordered Arthur in a deep, commanding voice, noticing my silence.

The car started slowly and headed toward Adam's apartment. I clutched my bag tightly, feeling as though there was a gaping hole in my heart - it was empty!

Before today, my life had been filled with happiness and sweetness. As i entered Dylan's office, i had been eagerly anticipating whether he would propose. I had dreamed of wearing a wedding dress in the near future and becoming the happiest, most beautiful bride, smiling joyfully in front of everyone.

But now, everything had been shattered into pieces.

"So, ten years have just been a beautiful dream," I thought as the car pulled up to Adam's apartment. Memories of the past ten years played in my mind, each heartwarming scene causing my heart to ache and suffocate me.

"ten years, Dylan ! Even if you didn't like me, why make me wait like a fool?" I wondered aloud, tears streaming down my face.

After an indeterminate amount of time, the Land Rover finally stopped in front of Adam's apartment.

"Get out of the car! After we get married, this will be your new home," Adam's voice was emotionless as he spoke, looking at me coldly.

Upon hearing Adam's words, Arthur quickly exited the car and held the door open for me . I gazed at the luxurious apartment outside the window, biting my lip lightly while my slender fingers tightly gripped the handbag on my lap.

Adam sat beside me, motionless, as if waiting for my decision.

After an uncertain pause, i turned my head to face Adam and replied, "Okay. Let's go register now."

Adam nodded. "Would you like to retrieve your household register from home?" I nodded silently, choosing not to utter a word.

Arthur promptly shut the door and settled into the driver's seat. He swiftly started the car and drove away from the neighborhood.

I had never imagined that i would one day become a member of the Flashing Marriage team, joining the Flashing Marriage family!

The most surprising revelation was that the man i had just wed was the older brother of the man i held dearest!

As i left the Marriage Registration Office and settled into the black Land Rover, my tears once again welled up with disappointment. I was now married, but to my despair, not to the man i cherished most.

In the past, i had envisioned myself walking into the Marriage Registration Centre with boundless happiness. Little did i anticipate that fate would play such a cruel joke on me! The person i had married today turned out to be Dylan's elder brother!

"Are you feeling wronged?" Adam asked, his gaze icy, before shifting his eyes elsewhere.

I silently shook my head and carefully stashed the vibrant red marriage certificate into my bag.

"Arthur , let's head to the mall," Adam commanded Arthur , his tone icy.

"Yes, Sir," Arthur replied obediently.

I sat beside Adam , my gaze fixed on the window. Everything felt unfamiliar.

"Baby you are strong, you are wise," an untimely song played from my cell phone. Each word felt like a painful jab in my heart.

It hurt.

I didn't need to wonder who the caller was. In the past, i would eagerly answer his calls, but now I had no desire to hear his voice. I reached out and rejected the call.

The car fell into a sudden silence, and the atmosphere turned somewhat stifling.

"You gotta get up... You gotta get up and make a move..." My phone once again stubbornly rang.

I reached out to press the reject button, but a large hand suddenly gripped my wrist.

"Answer the phone! You're family now. You'll be seeing each other often in the future!" Adam stated firmly before retracting his hand.

I hesitated for a moment. Although i wasn't ready to face Dylan , I couldn't deny the truth in Adam's words. I would soon become Dylan's sister-in-law.

With resolve, I pressed the answer button and brought the phone to my ear.

"Charlotte , where are you? Are you alright?" came Dylan's anxious voice. He had been feeling uneasy ever since I left the guest house, worrying that he wouldn't be able to explain my absence to his family if something happened to me.

"Is it any of your business where I am?" I asked faintly, gazing out of the window. I didn't attempt to appease him in his presence.

"Charlotte ... I'm sorry," Dylan still felt guilty, hearing my cold tone.

"Forget it, I'm fine," I replied indifferently.

"Today's matter was rather unexpected. Go home and take a break for a while. I'll come find you in two days! Don't worry, I'll make it up to you!" Dylan spoke sincerely.

"Do you want to offer me financial support?" I asked in a hushed tone.

"Yes! Charlotte , just name your request, and I'll do everything I can to fulfill it!"

A smile graced my face, though it carried a hint of sadness. "Make me the "Vice President of Operations" of the Morgan Group!"

Hahahaha, Dylan chuckled over the phone, obviously taunting me. "You must be dreaming if you think I'd do such a thing. That's my current position in the company, come on!," he remarked.

"What's so funny?" I inquired.

I gazed out of the window while keeping the phone to my ear. Was he making fun of me? Did he consider me a joke? I pondered.

Lowering the phone from my ear, I muttered, "If he won't comply, I'll have to take it by force. I can't wait to see him cry blood by the time I'm finished with him." With that thought, I promptly ended the call.
