How will she navigate in her world full of confusion and betrayal?

Chapter 1 Where it started

Did you hear me, Dylan?" She asked turning to face the Dylan after not hearing his response. The exchange between the boys almost made her face palm. Who was she kidding?

"I did Mum." Dylan answered, a semi-permanent frown settling on his face. He could not afford not to take his eyes off his brother.

"Now eat." She said with a firm voice.

"Mum. You would need to warn Eric not to pull any trick." Dylan replied to the command, his frown deepening at the mischievous glint in his brother's eye accompanying the double raise of his eyebrows.

"He won't." She said to the son who still did not believe her words.

"Son?" Her soft voice became firmer.

"On it." Dylan got set to start eating wondering why his mum didn't talk to his devilish little brother too.

Just as the food was about to get into his mouth, Dylan's face turned red from anger and irritation at the loud buzz suddenly emanating from his plate and cutlery.

Looming down at his spoon and seeing the adult roach majestically sitting on his spoon, looking pretty and ready to be consumed by him, he gave a not to befitting scream earning him a side glance from his father, the Alpha.

"Mum!" Was the only word Dylan could mutter afterwards as he felt his teeth chatter from irritation. He started having a big phobia for bugs after the birth of his brother and soon, he enough, he felt it would extend this phobia to other natural elements too.

Standing up from his chair, he leaned against the wall as his eyes followed the bugs marching like shoulders going to war. He could bot prevent the goosebumps that lined his skin, neither could he prevent his ears and check from reddening.

If the death glares he threw towards his brother was a dagger, he would have killed him a long time ago.

"Eric!"

"ERIC."

Both parents said at once killing the smirk of the face of the younger one.

"Now apologize to your brother." Sapphire ordered her eyes turning to look at the now cockroach infested plate.

"But it isn't my fault that he is a coward." The younger boy said giving a cute pout, you would think he wasn't capable of the stunt he just pulled.

"ERIC NICHOLAS." Sapphire called stressing each syllable while eyeing her indifferent husband who continued to eat like nothing was wrong after his initial action.

"Sorry." Eric said grudgingly. "Loser." He muttered almost inaudibly.

"What was that?"

"An apology."

"I don't think so. Apologize to your brother this instant Eric Nicholas." She gave her order, her oblong face getting red and eyes blazing with incoming anger.

"I'm sorry Dylan." Eric said forcefully, his eyes focused on his plate like no other thing mattered.

"And the roaches?" She asked.

"I would do away with them."

"Not another second to be wasted Eric." She said her hands gripping her cutlery tight but not right enough to bend it.

Soon the insects left the food and marched down the dinning table in a single row.

"Send them far away from this palace." She added, forcing herself not to turn green from irritation.

After ordering a fresh plate of food and cutlery for Dylan, Sapphire turned towards the direction Dylan stood minutes ago only to find an empty space.

Sighing in frustration, she ordered the maid to take the food to his room. The happiness she felt after birthday another child especially a boy, died the instant he turned 5 with the knowledge of the possibility of being the future Alpha.

At the thought of this, Sapphire casted an intense glare on her mate who pretended not to notice and only looking up when it got intense.

He had a hand in whatever was happening now, always filling the mind of the little ones with inappropriate words for their age, molding Eric to be a bully.

"What?" He asked with a pinch of frown added to his face.

"You will sleep in the special room this night." She proclaimed instead.

"Eewww! Mum!" Knowing it was meant for him, Eric whined trying to get his mother attention with the pitiful look on his face.

"You are grounded for a week." She added, daring him to continue whining, her eyes never leaving her husband and maybe for a second knowing what was about to happen next.

"Dad..." Eric called trying to draw pity from the Alpha but the man just shrugged and continue his eating like he wasn't there.

Having no other option, Eric twitched his lips and dropped his eyes to the plate, his lashes casting a shadow over his checks and his short black hair falling over his face.

Looking at her son fake the remorseful look on his face, Sapphire wondered what other mischief he was planning as he continuously stabbed on his plate without eating. Dropping her cutlery, she unhurriedly climbed the stairs to Dylan's room only to be greeted with silence, an untouched food and an empty bed.

"Dylan?" She called looking around places she taught he would hide in.

"Dylan?" She called again and a loud scream jolted her instead.

Looking around, her senses did not immediately register that this voice came from the dinning and did not belong to Dylan but Eric.

"Dylan?" She called again. Barging into his bathroom and study.

"Dylan?" She called softly this time.

"Mum!?" Eric called instead.

Standing still for a moment, Luna Sapphire tried to understand what was actually going on and after the realization dawned on her, she tiredly sat on Dylan's bed. Her head bent and supported by her hand. It wasn't a crime to be a mother, was it?

'It isn't.' Lara, her wolf responded.

"Hey Lara?" Sapphire greeted out loud.

'Hey Sapphire. Do you want me to handle this?' Lana asked.

Entering into the inner part of her soul, she came to face Lana and after a warm hug, she replied.

'Yeah, maybe. But I do wonder how you do the trick.' Sapphire said looking her wolf who looked like she could never raise her voice or harm a fly.

'You are too lax especially on your husband and son Eric. Dylan isn't the problem here.' She said while preparing herself to manifest.

'I know right?'

'Here we go...'

'Good luck Lana.' Sapphire wished and Lana responded by turning to give her a wink.

Standing with a close eye, the Luna finally opened her eyes and the change of eye color is noticed from her black eyeballs to honey brown.

"MUM...!"

Chapter 2 A predictable future

Slowly descending the stairs, she finally caught sight of what was happening. Both boys were fighting with Dylan using his phasing ability and not giving Eric room to use his ability.

Dylan kept easing and walking through objects from different directions to torment his brother while the later kept being extra watchful all for nothing.

When Eric received a hard smack on the back of his head from Dylan out of the blue, he once again called for Sapphire while tearfully rubbing on the spot he was just hit.

Watching them for a little longer. She was Eric conjure up a tsetse fly ready to attack his brother with it. Unfortunately for him, Dylan did not come from his back again and clearly saw the bug in his hand.

"Come on and prove not to be a coward if you think you are befitting for the throne." Eric taunted with a smirk Dylan died to wipe off his face.

Running off and walking through the wall, Dylan Walk through another direction but this time, his brother was well prepared, guessing the direction he would emerge from and going into a balanced stand for a fight.

Walking into his brother unawares, both gripped themselves and started tumbling on the floor, exchanging blow and scratches every once in a while.

While all these happened, Lana watched Alpha Nicholas eat to his fill before proceeding to stand up, gesturing to the maid servants to clear his plates.

"And where do you think, you are going to Nicholas?" Lana, having the same ability as Dylan walked through the wall and approached Nicholas.

Stopping in his track at the different voice from his mate, intensified mate bond and different aura, Nicholas looked up to see the honey brown colored pair of eyes of his mate. A pair of eyes that spoke a thousand word of wisdom at the same time, whose stare could see the deepest part of his soul and mock him.

"Lana?"

"Nicholas. Where were you about to go?" She asked standing in akimbo and staring down at her mate. A lopsided smile never leaving her lips.

"You don't have to be out." Nicholas said.

"Why? So, you can trample all over my companion while she locks me inside?" Lana asked with a raise of a brow and gave a huff before walking around Nicholas to sit on one of the dining chairs.

With a snap of her finger in command, the maidservants left the room. The fighting boys had stopped fighting for a while and stood apart from each other with their head bowed.

"Sapphire." Nicholas called, his jaws tensed and his gaze hardened.

"Nice try, you can try again later." Lana said showing a mocking smile.

"I need to meet Corvinus. Since you want to be a jerk and sow discord in the heart of these young pups, leave and let me battle it out with my mate. You are not worthy of words." She said staring directly at his eyes.

"You wouldn't dare." Nicholas said with finality.

"Watch me." She said and stood up.

"Mum." Knowing he was at fault, Eric called as a form of distraction not wanting to face his parents' wolves.

"Keep shut and sit, both of you. I will attend to you later." She said coldly while proceeding to meet her mate.

Coming in a close proximity to Nicholas, she held his hand before he could dodge her and with a softer voice, muttered, "Corvinus".

Like lightning, the color of his eyes changed into blue holding dark promises.

Dylan P.O.V

Corvinus, my dad's wolf was not any different from him. If there was any word to describe him, it would be 'worse' but it's a huge wonder how my mum's wolf would always manage to bend him into doing what she wanted.

My childhood wasn't fun neither am I. My dad and Corvinus had drilled into us the importance of fighting for the position of an Alpha. He stressed in the importance of being worthy of the throne since we were little

I had no problems stepping down for my brother to lead but that was against the law, my father's pride and my mother's wishes.

As the first male child of the Alpha, it was my right to have access to the position of the Alpha but this alone was a threat to my brother. Maybe it shouldn't have been so if my dad had not kept on ringing the important of fighting for one's dream in his ear.

As the first son who had an eligible competitor, I was supposed to be powerful and fight my way to the throne. Not that I could not fight but when I wished for a sibling, I expected a play mate and companion not a wrestling opponent brewing hate and malice.

I disliked the fact that I had to constantly be in loggerheads with my brother and most times, I allowed him have his way with the burning hope that one day, all these would stop but as I grew, I realized it was all in my head.

My constant loosing to my brother made him more prideful. It gave my father a room to talk down on me and my mother a leeway to shower her pity on me.

I grew quiet and kept to myself, I could not find peace at home with my overambitious father and brother.

I receded into finding a hobby. Molding the little quantity of earth, I could gather over and again till it formed a shapeless hard mass.

My nice and meek nature earned me the respect of my father's subjects over my brother's rude, harsh and haughty character but that wasn't enough. I needed to feel a love of a father too and not just a pity of a mother and put an end to my brother's endless taunts.

He received both and got a good teacher to keep honing his ability. He was the potential Alpha of the Golden Wolf Pack but it didn't mean I could escape the big fight to determine who the Alpha would turn out to be.

Chapter 3 Delima

There is nothing annoying like having a weak brother. In as much as I know and am told that I deserve to be the Alpha of the Golden Wolf pack, I would really hunt him down if he just surrenders to me without a fight.

I just can't bear to look him in the eye without getting annoyed. I wonder how he thinks a leader is made by being unnecessarily kind and weak, I wonder how he thinks he can command the horde of violent subjects without first being strong to dominate them.

"Where is Dylan?" I stopped by my mother's chambers to ask her of him and she looked at me like I lost my head in a pile of rubbish before going back knitting like I wasn't there.

"Alright." I shrugged and meant to breeze out when she stopped me.

"Eric, you are grown and I do not expect you to make an issue out of nothing." She said.

"Okay." I responded; my legs ready to move out when her words stopped me again.

"Why do you seek him?"

"Who?" I asked and I got a bored look as a reply.

"Nothing. Just wanted to bond with my brother." I said before casually strolling out of her room knowing she was drilling hot holes in my back.

"See you!" I said but received no response.

Walking down the corridor towards my brother's room, I stood still at the slightly open door before peeking in to an empty room.

Knowing he wasn't in, I turned to leave only to bump into his personal maid.

"Dylan?" I asked and she shook her head in response.

"And what is that suppose to mean?" I asked, his things were as pathetic as he was.

"He...he isn't in." She stuttered refusing to meet my gaze.

Holding her chin to raise her head up, I could feel her trembling and finding it difficult to look at me.

"Speak!" I ordered.

"And like a normal wolf would." I added just incase she fumbled again. Practicing my Alpha dominance on my subjects was fun and I could not wait to carry out the actual Alpha dominance I've seen my father practice. His aura alone could make his subject quake in terror. The bliss of that.

"Master Dylan left the room few hours ago." She replied trying her best to be firm but her loud heartbeat did not escape my extraordinary hearing ability.

"I expect a complete information. Do you serve half dishes to the members of the royal family?" I asked she shook her head again.

"Do I need to remind you of how to respond?" And with a vigorous shaking of her head, she said.

"He left a few hours ago." as if a spell had been conjured on her.

Cooped in the comfort of my room doing nothing than fumbling with scroll given to me by my mum, I felt suffocated. I was supposed to study this ancient scroll to have enough knowledge on how this wolf thing works but I just could not concentrate.

Tonight, being the night when there will be a full moon was supposed to be the night of my wolf awakening ceremony, the night were I finally get to meet my wolf. A hopeful companion I wished to have but the thought of that too being a failure haunted me. I would be stock with it forever and eventually go crazy.

I was supposed to have my coming-of-age ceremony tomorrow but my Alpha Nicholas insisted Eric and I have it together. I'd have to wait three extra years to do that.

I felt stressed and my hands craved to mold something. Before walking through the walls of the house, I dropped a note for my personal maid.

Sitting on the floor in a not-so-secret garden, I let molding the clay I could gather from digging into the earth till my hands started working on my own and my mind teleported to a realm of peace.

"My Alpha" A voice full of mockery called, shattering even the fake and temporary peace of mind I conjured.

"Alright. Go in and do what you need to do." Eric said, letting go of her cheeks as if jolted by electricity. He proceeded to wipe his hand clean before giving her a degrading look.

Zoe glared hard at him when she taught, he wasn't looking. The audacity of her junior to talk this way to get even he wasn't the king yet.

"After sizing me up, you can please proceed to do your morning chores" Eric said with a creepy smile on his face.

If given the opportunity, Zoe would have coughed up blood at the guts of the brat in front of her. She wished to give a reply but remembering her background and was at stake, she only nodded before bowing and passed into the room.

Not long after she entered the room, her eyes caught unto the notice plastered on the table. Having an idea where her master was, she made a mental to-do list of things to bring to him while he spent his time relaxing.

"So, this is it. Huh?" The sudden evasion in her space made her jump while releasing a little squeak.

"Let's go." Eric said nodding towards the door.

"I..."

"Hush it now. I want to see my big brother not yours; your job right now is to lead me to him or be lost."

"After you." He said when she kept staring her him instead.

Guilty, Zoe led him towards the inner part of the garden where Dylan sat on the muddy floor like an homeless underprivileged teen with his back to them.

Looking at his brother with contempt and hate for spoiling their father's image and name.

"My Alpha." He mocked giving a fake bow alongside Zoe after Dylan turned to look at them.

"Greetings Master Dylan." She greeted and he muttered a response and tried to look at him, he nodded in understanding and gestured to her to leave.

"Why do you seek me, Eric?" Dylan asked his brother. He wasn't ready for any games.

"To see how matured you are. I was wrong." Eric teased, his face not hiding the disgust he felt towards whatever his brother was doing."

"Okay." Dylan answered, not bothering to talk much.

"You disgust me. I can't stand the sight of you." Eric added.

"You are welcome." Dylan replied without a shift in his initial expression.

Conjuring a spider on the muddy hands of his brother, he left with a tinge of satisfaction but what he didn't expect was for Dylan to walk through the plants and rub whatever dirt he dipped his hands in alongside the bug he conjured into his face and body. It happened too fast to stop or notice it happening.

It was a blow to Eric's ego and the second son of the Alpha was left seething, planning out a perfect revenge plan to compensate whatever humiliation he just faced.
