ADRIA'S POV
I was running, and my feet was thumping on the ground as I took each leap in fear. I couldn't tell what was chasing me, but the atmosphere didn't seem right.
I was in an abyss of darkness. Everything was dark, no ray of light. I tried to pry my eyes open but it felt as if a strange, negative force was keeping me down.
The same dark voices continued to loom in my head, making my mind spin like a well-woven web. This was the same gruff voice that haunts me every time. I tried so hard to move my body or wake up but my body was stuck, like I was paralyzed or sort.
One look on this place, I could tell I was in another world or space, I could feel everything like it was real but somewhere deep inside me, knew it was the voice that was toying with my sanity.
My hands and legs were bound as I was shackled down with an unseen force. I was unable to move, but who would feel something this dangerous, and not try to escape. I tried with every strength in me to break off from the unseen force, but it was all futile.
"Oh, shit!" I cursed under my breath, shakily.
"What do you want from me?" I sobbed, feeling completely tired, and scared.
But I got no response, and all I could hear was just a heavy breathing sound. Not even my shadow was anywhere to be seen as it had blended with the darkness, making me feel lonelier, and helpless.
"I'm you." The voice thundered eerily, making my skin crawl in fear.
I never expected that I would be given a response this time, and that the voice was going to be one that would make my heart jump in fear. It made my head jumble in confusion and fear of the unknown.
"No." I responded in a low tone. "No, you are not!" I uttered and shook my head in denial, and started trying ways to wake up from the nightmare.
"I repeat, I am you." The voice stated again firmly. "Just give me time, and you'll find out soon."
I shook my head again, and shut my eyes real tight. This wasn't possible. There was no way this could be real.
"Please go away. Leave me alone!" I yelled out in frustration.
I heard a low chuckle, and a low rumble as well. "Adria, you can't run from me because I'm you and you are me." The voice repeated firmly, and those words echoed in my head.
Suddenly, I felt a light touch on her arm and I sat up abruptly, and screamed on top of my lungs.
"No!" I voiced out.
My chest was heaving up and down, and my breathing pace had increased. Sweats trickled down my body, and my night gown was quite soaked in it.
"Adria, come on. Take this medicine." My mother handed it over to me, and sat down beside me with a concerned look on her face.
I quickly took the medicine and gulped it down with a glass of water. This nightmare was a recurrent one, and anytime I had it, I always came down with a disturbing migraine.
I sobbed, and fell into her arms.
"I'm tired, mother. I can't do this anymore." I continued sobbing, and then she began to pat me on my back.
"It's okay, Adria. I understand you. I'm sure this will pass away with time. It's just a passing phase." My mother assured me.
"I have been having different nightmares since I was young, mother. Do you think I'm possibly suffering from a condition? Don't you think I might need treatment apart from these drugs?"
"No, Adria. If we also go to the hospital, all they'll do is to prescribe a few drugs. It is something which has to go away itself. You just need to calm down."
My mother patted my head, and smoothened my hair gently to make me feel better.
"Alright my love. I need to get to work; whenever you're feeling better, you can resume school activities." My mother said, and placed a kiss on my forehead, then walked out of the room.
I exhaled sharply, and got down from my bed. At least, it was daytime now, and the nightmare might nor re-occur tonight, so it was best to shrug it off my shoulders.
I wasn't in the mood to resume school activities yet as I needed to get myself back from the whole holiday stress I had with these nightmares. I had my bath, and then wore a floral dress.
I studied myself in the mirror, and smiled, pleased to see how beautiful I looked in the mirror. With my beauty, and intelligence, I'm sure I would gain more love from the Professors at school.
I just wanted to be a great historian, known for loving history in college, and if possible, gain connections that would help me get to places I would love to go to.
"Adria! I just left." My mother informed me and I heard her shut the door.
I smiled, and shook my head. At times, she could be funny. I thought she was all prepared for work, but I guess she still had a few things to do.
I picked up the new book which I had gotten from an old library, downtown, and it was about mythical creatures which were now history. Even if they weren't real, I just loved to read different things, especially if it had to do with history.
I walked out of the room, then headed off to the garden while humming a song. I was feeling much better than when I woke up, and that was a good sign that my day was going to go well.
I got to the garden, and sat down on the wooden bench, and placed the book on the table. I could tell I was going to have an exciting read as this book was based on mythical creatures.
It was the story of werewolves.
I opened the book, and the first thing I saw was Adria. I shook my head, and rubbed my eyes to look into the book again, but I was interrupted by a phone call.
I glanced at my phone beside me, and discovered it was Stacy.
"Hey Stacy." I said as I looked back at the book, but didn't find my name there again.
I felt relieved that I wasn't hallucinating now in reality.
"Hi girl. When are you coming to school? We have missed you so much."
"I have missed you guys too, but I'll let you know when I'm ready to come to school." I uttered with a smile on my face.
"Oh, goodness. But you are missing a lot."
"How am I missing a lot when I can obviously catch up." I scoffed, and rolled my eyes.
"Well, not in academics. There's this juicy gist which has made the class go crazy about it, and you shouldn't be at home or you won't witness that honorable moment."
"Right now, you're speaking in a language I don't understand, so get straight to the point." I said sharply as I flipped through the pages of the book, and saw scary werewolves.
"What I am trying to say is that there is this man who had an interview in the college, and we heard that he would be replacing Mr. Jones. And guess what, he is strikingly hot, and handsome." Stacy informed me, in a tone of excitement.
"Mr. Jones is gone!"
That was my favorite Professor as he was the one teaching us history. Now, I just had to get prepared for school to take a look at who had just replaced the one Professor who could resonate with me in terms of history.
Chapter 2
LUCIEN'S POV
"We have arrived here finally, Alpha." My beta announced as we both stood on a cliff, staring far into the human land.
This was my second time here after the interview I had, and even if I had never really had business to do in the human world, I had never thought I would have to do much here.
Rather than sending my people here to keep investigating the issue on ground, it's best I come over myself to take charge and do things as it ought to be.
"Alright, you have done well. I want you to lead those people in my place, and give me reports when they're necessary." I instructed my beta as I fixed my gaze on the human land.
"Noted, Alpha. Are you also going to search for her?" My beta asked, inquisitively.
"That will depend on the progress of this mission as well." I replied, with a straight face.
Then I jumped at a nearby tree, and slid down to the ground as my feet thumped on the ground. Then I began to run towards the exit of the woods which was still a bit far from where I was.
I swung my arms back and forth, effectively as the wind grazed through my clothes, making them all blown up. My hair blew to the back and the wind fiercely swept through my skin, making me feel more alive.
Then I sped up as fast as I could as there was no more time to waste. If I was going to teach as a professor, I should be a role model in coming early to class, and other things the student also were to get used to.
Soon, I got to the exit, and took a cab heading to the school. By the time we got there, I was all dry of my sweat. As I walked into the school, I could feel all eyes on me, and as that seemed uncomfortable, I had no choice than to wave it off.
On getting to class, I was amazed by how full it was, and one could tell they were really admiring me, and were drawn by my looks.
"Good day, class. I am Professor Lucien, and I will be replacing your history teacher. I have a few rules which you must always abide by, while I'm still your Professor." I introduced to them as I placed the textbook on the table.
I had gotten their attention, and that was quite remarkable.
"I don't condole late-coming, whispering, and doing other things while I'm teaching. Many more would come in as we get to know each other. Now, open your textbooks to page 59." I instructed them as I opened mine.
The time clicked by as I taught them whole-heartedly all I knew about the topic, and I must say, the class was interactive. They engaged in each question, and beautiful answers, and thoughts were provided.
I gave them an assignment as soon as we rounded up our discussion, and began to pack the text books into my bag when I noticed a heavy presence which was provoking.
That was certainly the scent of a vampire. I stopped abruptly, and scanned around with a straight face to search for the vampire, but I couldn't find him or her anywhere here.
All I could notice was the constant stare most of the female students were giving me. A vampire here which seemed like it had a dangerous intent was not one I could ignore, so I packed up my books immediately, and dashed out of the class.
The scent of the vampire was still lingering in my nostrils, and the scent had filled the hallway of the college. I slowly followed it so as not to look suspicious to the students.
But his scent led me to the female restroom. This scent seemed like the one of a male, so I guess he decided to hunt a female down, and one of the dumbest place to do that in is the female restroom where he could be caught easily.
I walked into the female restroom immediately, and opened each door after knocking, but there was no one around. He must have gotten here, but left before I could get here.
I dashed out of the restroom before anyone found me here and tag me as a pervert.
"Shit!" I cursed under my breath as I looked around.
It was dangerous if a killer vampire was on the hunt, and I wonder what innocent student or being would fall into his trap. I bit my lower lip, then headed back home since I was done with my class for today.
I got to the apartment I had purchased the first time I got here, and went straight to the bedroom to lay down. I just wanted to dive into my thoughts, and strategize on my plans.
But the thought of my mate wandered into my mind. I yearned for the woman that would make me feel complete, and I would say the moon goddess was even more cruel to me for making her hard to find.
I exhaled and stared at the ceiling. Whatever happens, I just hope I would be able to complete my mission here.
~
I stood in front of the college building, ready to teach again. For days, I had not heard or sensed any killer vampire which was a bit disturbing, but I hope things continued being this peaceful.
I headed off to my office, and settled down on my chair, then opened my laptop. My phone rang, and I answered the call.
"Good morning, Alpha. I decided to give you report over what we noticed in a few days."
"Alright, I'm all ears."
"We haven't heard any situation of vampires killing any human around."
"Same here. I wonder what they're up to."
"I think it's because they noticed your presence." My beta suggested respectfully.
"Well, even at that, I'm certain they only retreated. But they'll be coming back with a bigger plan, so we must always be at alert."
"Noted, Alpha."
After I ended the call with my beta, I leaned on my chair, and exhaled, staring at the reports of the reduced killings of the vampires.
"Well, you all better stay away until forever." I said, under my breath.
I was about standing to get ready for my class when an intoxicating scent hit me hard. I got so curious as I felt really drawn to it. My wolf purred in me, and became restless.
I didn't need to go outside of my office as I could tell that the person was heading right here. But I couldn't bring myself to sit, so I only waited for the person to come in.
Just as I had predicted, a knock came on the door.
"Come in." I heard myself speak before thinking.
And the scent got stronger, and I wished to just embrace the person immediately she revealed herself. It was a she, and her scent was irresistible.
As she walked in with a smile on her face, my heart melted, and my wolf purred excitedly.
"Finally, we have found our mate." My wolf voiced out with intensity.
Chapter 3
ADRIA'S POV
My tummy growled in excitement as my eyes fell on him. He was breathtakingly handsome, and I couldn't take my eyes off him so easily.
Somehow, the way he stared at me felt like he was reading me deeper than I thought. How could someone hot as this, prefer to be a Professor, and waste his hot physique in a college?
My eyes fluttered as I came back to my senses, then I cleared my throat.
"Good day, Professor Lucien. I'm Adria, and I just resumed classes today." I introduced myself so as not to give myself an "F" in being respectful.
"And you are here to?" He questioned as he leaned on the table, boring a hole at me with his seductive, and charismatic eyes.
He had a sharp stare, one which anyone could fall for, but I didn't want to seem so unserious, so I had to keep calling myself back to my senses to remind me to behave myself.
"I...I came to tender my assignment. I heard you gave them an assignment, so I decided to do mine as well." I smiled as I handed it over to him.
He collected it without taking his eyes from me, which was beginning to seem a bit weird, because his stares gave me an electricity charge, and I felt he could make me fall in love with him if he just kept staring at me.
Finally, he took his gaze off me, and flipped through the pages of my assignment. I hoped he was going to be impressed about how hardworking and serious I was as a student, especially since I did a deep research on the assignment.
"This is good." He replied, then dropped it on the other assignments on his table.
The smile on my face faded away as I wasn't expecting him to say such even if he had to comment on it now. If it were Professor Jones, he would have commended my extra efforts.
"I... I kind of put extra efforts into this. Made a deep research on it to give true facts."
"That's good. I'll also go through your assignments, and grade them as I ought to."
"Alright then. Thank you." I replied flatly, feeling discouraged.
I turned around to leave, and as I was about to open the door, he stopped me.
"You said you're Adria, right?"
"Yes I am." I responded as I turned around to him.
"Have you lived here all your life?" He questioned as he sat on the table.
I wasn't expecting that question, but I guess it wasn't weird to reply.
"Uhm...Yes."
"Do you perhaps feel anything like a connection drawing you in or something?"
Now, this was getting weird.
"Uhm... I'm sorry. I...I think I have to leave." I muttered out, and excused myself out.
I walked out of the hallway, and headed for class.
"Adria!" I heard my friends calling out to me.
I looked towards the direction of their voices, and joy filled my heart when I saw them. They were the best friends one could ever ask for, and I was lucky to have them.
I walked up to them, and they hugged me, giving me no space to breathe.
"Guys... You're choking me." I managed to speak out as I tried to release myself from their grip.
"We're so sorry." They chuckled, and let me go.
"So, it seems you really enjoyed the holidays. You're looking more beautiful now." Daniel complimented me with a smile on his face.
I blushed a little, and hit his chest to cover up my blush.
"Now, I know I've resumed back to school, and it feels so nice to be back."
"It's so good to have you back. By the way, have you submitted your assignment? You said you wanted to submit it today." Stacy asked, out of curiosity.
"Yes, I have." I replied flatly, knowing fully why she asked.
"Really? So, you saw the Professor. You see I was right. He is damn hot." Stacy said, looking like she was dreaming about him.
"Well, you're right, but I don't really see him as someone I would be drooling over. I have missed our former history teacher."
"Oh, goodness. Can you for once forget about books, and think about something more fun?" Stacy grunted, and folded her arms.
"I really don't know. He asks too much questions, and they're all weird." I exhaled, and we continued walking towards the class.
As soon as we got to class, we all settled down at the back as the class was surprisingly full.
"What the... I'm surprised. Why are there so many people in attendance, today?" I asked, surprised at how many people attended history class.
Since I had been coming to this college, I had never seen this much people coming in for history class, and this was baffling.
"Well, thanks to Professor Lucien, some lazy, and bored fools are quite excited to attend the class today. And their attendance has pushed us to sit at the back." Stacy uttered, and blew her fringe up.
"The man is cool, and handsome, so people would come, of course. What's baffling me is the fact that even these guys are also excited to come for his class as well." Tommy uttered as he rubbed his chin with his index finger, and thumb.
"Exactly! You're right. I felt this crowd would be filled with girls mostly." Daniel acknowledged as he brought his books out.
While they were talking about how surprised they were, I could not get my mind off the way he stared at me for a long time, and then was asking weird questions.
Soon, Professor Lucien walked in, and the class fell silent. He walked in with charisma, and one could feel his wave of confidence, sweep over the class.
"Good day, class." He greeted everyone, without a smile on his face, and everyone answered.
Then his eyes scanned the class like he was looking for someone, but the moment he set his eyes on me, he stopped, and my eyes fluttered in shock. He had his eyes on me for quite a while, and that made things seem cringe.
I cleared my throat, and looked away from him, then bit my lips, hoping he could take his eyes off me because people could trace his stare to me.
It was beginning to seem uncomfortable, and I didn't think I could go on in whatever this was which felt like a staring contest.
"Adria." Stacy tapped me while my gaze was directed to the ground, and I responded, and stared at her.
"What, girl?"
"The Professor called you just now." She responded as she turned her gaze back to the front.
My heart skipped a beat, and my eyes widened because I wasn't expecting that. What exactly was he calling me for, right now?
I turned my gaze to Professor Lucien, and it was so weird that I had been lost in my thoughts deeply to an extent I didn't hear him when he called me.
"You called my name." I muttered out, and a few people laughed a little, while some scoffed.
"Yes, I did." He replied, then picked up an assignment which seemed to be mine. "In your assignment, I noticed you talked extensively about the American history, and that's nice."
I didn't know why the word "nice" was so annoying right now because how would he classify my work as just nice? This was an effort which I had tried hard to make.
"So, let me ask you. When did they eradicate slavery in the American history?" He directed the question to me, and folded his arms.
I confidently stood up, and cleared my throat first.
"Go, girl." Stacy cheered me on, in a low tone.
"It was eradicated on December 6, 1865."
"Alright, so do you feel they did?"
"Yes. That was their 13th amendment, and it was final."
I felt happy that I knew the answers to these questions, and was answering it with my chin up.
"And that's where you'll get a few minuses, miss. It wasn't fully eradicated because they still used it as a punishment for a crime. When making extensive research, you have to show us that you really did it extensively."'
Professor Lucien walked back to his book stand, and dropped my assignment back. I felt humiliated, and didn't have an idea of what to say or do. I could tell people were surprised that a Professor had marked me down, and I couldn't bear it.
I sat down slowly, and then Stacy tapped me immediately.
"Oh, my goodness. Check the class group chat."
Anxiety settled deep down in my tummy, making me feel sick. The class group chat barely held good news. I was hoping not to confirm what I thought it was.
I checked the class group chat, and my heart sank, then my tummy made me feel sick as I viewed the messages with a shattered ego.
