Chapter 1 Morning escape

Fear absolute terror, the kind of terror that causes your skin to itch. when your skin crawls and you can feel every hair on your body standing up. I experienced the kind of paralyzing fear that causes your body to instantly freeze when you hear her blood-curdling scream. The only problem was that I couldn't flee because I was her big sister. I was forced to move and go to her. I dragged my feet up the Pack house's front porch and sprinted in the direction I could hear her calling my name. In fear, I pound the flooring with my feet.

I felt myself slipping on the hallway rug as a result of my rapid movement, causing me to skid across the floor and against the wall. With enough effort, my head and shoulder twist awkwardly against the kitchen door frame, causing black dots to dance in front of my eyes. I feel a sharp pain in my shoulder and collarbone travel through my body as my shoulder dislocates as a result of the hit. The call goes forth, "Katherine! Katherine!" Her frightened scream reverberated throughout the house. I jumped to my feet and felt dizzy. With a whip in his other hand, the Alpha was pulling my sister towards the basement as I rounded the corner into the kitchen. Just before he can slam the cellar door shut on my fingers, I start sprinting toward her and grab the door frame. In pain, I cry out loud on my own. When I go to grab the door handle, I discover that it has been locked. I begin attempting to get my hand free. She was shouting and wailing for me on the other side of the door, and I could hear her. Say, "Leave her alone!"I yelled at him while banging the door with my body in an effort to free my fingers and get inside. Since I couldn't get a run-up, I threw my body with all of my strength in the direction of the side where my fingers were jammed, and the door moved just far enough for me to liberate my bloody, broken hand. My fingers twisted and jutted out at odd angles, and I knew they were broken.

I ran full-speed into the kitchen door as I was backing up, bouncing off, and losing all of my air in the process. I rose up, backed up once more, and accelerated my pace. My body was propelled down the stairs, landing at an odd angle, while I dropped my shoulder, slamming into the door so hard it burst open. My head collided with the concrete floor of the cellar. "Katherine"

KATHERINE'S POV*

Just two weeks ago I murmured to my six-year-old sister, "Come on, Caroline, it's time to get up." She yawned and stretched while rolling on the mattress, opening her stunning sapphire blue eyes to meet mine. The Packhouse's smallest chamber was located in the back of the house, away from everyone. The space was furnished with a window, a double bed, and several toys for Lily. The duffle bag that served as our clothing readily accommodated all of our belongings. She looked down at my attire drowsily and murmured, "You've been jogging, Kathy. "No, they're just relaxed right now. I got down next to her on the floor mattress and said, "Come on, you have to get ready for school. Caroline got up and scowled at me.

Before putting her school shirt over her head, I took off the top of her pajamas. I instructed her, "Quick, hop up and put your pants on while I get ready." I quickly stood up, made my way over to the duffle bag next to the mattress, and took out my work attire. I then quickly undressed and put it on. Sitting next to Caroline on the bed, I grabbed my brush and pulled my hair into a high ponytail before doing the same with hers. I leaned down, snatched her socks and joggers, put them on her feet, and fastened the laces. Inside the house, we could hear people moving around. Caroline halted and fixed her gaze on the door. Kathy, he's awake," Caroline said. She was still in her pajamas, so I hurriedly threw my shoes on and grabbed the duffel bag, stuffing it with mine and hers. Knowing we couldn't sneak out of the house by the front entrance, I threw the bag over my shoulder and moved over to the window. I opened the window slowly, threw the bag out, and then went for Caroline. She scaled the windowsill and leaped to the ground below. With the exception of the basement and attic, the house only had one story.

I passed through, leaped to the grass below, and then reached up to carefully close the window behind me. I looked to make sure that none of the Pack members were in the front yard as I ran up the side of the house toward the side gate. It was still incredibly early. Just as the sun was about to rise, light could be seen peeping through the house's surrounding trees. I took Caroline's hand and jogged towards the driveway, which was also the bus stop at the end of the gravel road. I could hear the bus approaching as we got closer to the conclusion. We moved more quickly toward the bus stop, arriving there just in time. I extended my arm and signaled the bus to stop. When he noticed us, the bus driver grinned. I remarked, "Hey, Finn," as I boarded the vehicle and gave him our bus payment. He looked down at her and remarked, "No smile today, Caroline?" Before she gave him a wide, toothy grin, her lips pulled at the sides.

"That's my girl," he proclaimed. We shifted to the bus's rear. Caroline lay down on the seat next to me for the entire ten-minute journey into town, resting her head in my lap. She looked up at me and said, "Kathy, I'm hungry." I leaned down to kiss her head, "I know, I will make you some lunch and breakfast when we get into town," I said. I watched the trees and early-morning birds as I stared out the window.

Chapter 2 Hidden Desire

I didn't want to continue living this life. The Alpha of one of the most infamous Packs in the city, my stepfather was a terrible guy. When our mother passed away, I was planning to leave, but Daddy wouldn't allow me to take Caroline. It's not like he was ever her father, so I have no idea why. He detested her from the moment of her birth and held her responsible for the demise of our mother.

I still recall the moment he brought her home and informed me that my mother had passed away giving birth. He pushed Caroline into my arms and said, "Look after it." I recall being perplexed. I was just 13 years old at the time. I had no knowledge of infants. I had to stop going to school and give up everything. She became my entire world as a result of the love I showed her.

How he could reject his own puppy, his own flesh and blood, baffled me. Caroline was a sweet infant, and her mother would have adored her. Simon didn't even bother to fill out the paperwork, so I gave her the name Caroline. Mum's middle name was Caroline. When she and Simon learned they were expecting, they were both very happy, but when my mother passed away, their joy turned to hatred. Since then, The Pack has endured suffering. They were terrified of him and would never challenge him. He was the Alpha for a reason. So there I was raising my younger sister as a high school dropout.

The Alpha didn't assist me in any way, but fortunately, Mum had everything prepared for her arrival before she went. I needed to take formulas from the Pack. Fortunately, they didn't despise Mum or me even after she passed away. They would smuggle me diapers and formula tins because they felt bad about Caroline.

I enrolled Caroline in school when she reached five and was old enough to do so, and I also started looking for work so I could try to support her.

*KATHERINE'S POV*

Even if it wasn't much, it was preferable to asking or pleading with Pack members for everything she needed. I can still clearly recall the pounding I received when I begged Simon for some cash to pay for her uniform. Before hauling me to the cellar and beating me until I blacked out, he split my lip open. I shook my head at the thought and then looked down at Caroline, who was tinkering with the necklace that belonged to my father and hung around my neck. On one side of the necklace was a wolf, while on the other was a man with teeth. I don't remember my father; he passed away when I was two.

When the Alpha took us in when I was seven years old, my mother stopped talking much about him despite the fact that she used to tell me how kind he was. Alpha Simon didn't want to learn about her prior existence. He always believed it was a betrayal because she was his mate and had a child with someone else who had been sent by the Moon Goddess. The fact that my father wasn't a wolf only made it worse. My mother was a wolf and he was a vampire, therefore I am a hybrid, which isn't exactly what it seems to be. It's disgusting. I am unable to fully shift like other wolves can. I have the ability to mind connect as well as develop painful claws when necessary. I can sense their speed and fragrance from my vamp side. I also need to consume human blood in order to heal like a wolf or a vampire.

I don't get blood because I was reared in a wolf pack, which is okay. I can do just well without it, but I'm always weaker and unable to heal. Alpha Simon prevents me from consuming blood, and aside from him, only my mother and Caroline are aware of who I am. Caroline and I had hoped to escape this hellhole one day so I wouldn't have to conceal who I am, but that's not going to happen. The bus arrived in front of the diner where I worked. I hurriedly pushed Caroline out the door and onto the sidewalk.

"Let's go, Caroline. I'll ask Arthur to cook you some pancakes before school if we hurry. Caroline entered the restaurant and headed for her normal seat near the kitchen. She placed her luggage on the red leather seat next to her as she slid along the booth seat as I watched. Since my shift didn't end until six o'clock, Caroline adored the diner and came with me every morning before school and after school. However, Ivy was the best perk of working here, and I would pick her up from school during my lunch hour. "Roy's Diner" had a human woman as its proprietor. She was married to Roy. She took over her husband's firm when he passed away years ago. In her late 60s, Ivy was, She has rosy cheeks, green eyes, and long white hair that is constantly tucked back into a bun. She is one of my most beloved acquaintances despite being a larger woman.

She never frowned and adored Caroline, and because she didn't have any of her own, she adopted Caroline and I in a way. Caroline's breakfast, dinner, and lunch for school were always taken care of by Ivy. I gave Caroline a hug and helped her settle into the booth before exiting for the kitchen. Caroline's pancakes were being prepared by Arthur, who was already seated at the stove wearing a tie-dye shirt and jeans. Arthur, who had blonde hair and blue eyes and was likely the only true friend I had, was also gay, which was awful for me.

As I passed him on my way to get my apron, I waved to him. Before school every morning, Caroline eats pancakes. I went back inside to get my apron and cinched it around my waist before heading outside to get the coffee. I began restocking a couple patrons' cups. No matter what time of day it was, Roy's Diner was always busy.

Chapter 3 Unexpected encounter

I returned to the kitchen once I had restocked the cups to give Caroline her pancakes. It was eight o'clock when Caroline completed her meal. Caroline was at a booth, so I cleaned everything up. I then snuck back into the kitchen to get her school bag, which I had kept in the duffel bag. Ivy was standing by with a paper bag when I passed through the kitchen on my way back.

She smiled and handed the bag to me while saying, "I made her ham and salad sandwiches, and Arthur threw in some quiches from yesterday for her." With her tiny arms barely reaching Ivy's hips, Caroline rushed into the kitchen and quickly embraced her. Before giving her a head kiss, Ivy grinned down at her. Have fun and discover new things at school,Ivy advised her. After saying "thank you" to Ivy, I threw the bag over my shoulder and took Caroline's hand to lead her to school. Caroline and I strolled hand in hand the entire way to the school, which was just one block away. The streets were crowded with people getting ready for work, and I immediately moved to the side just in time for us to avoid being crushed by a rush of people exiting the station.

I gave her a short kiss as we rapidly arrived at the school, stopping right in front of the gates. I'll see you at three, all right? I murmured, "Have fun," and gave her a short embrace. She turned and I walked back to the diner as I watched her dash off in the direction of her pals. When I returned to the diner, I hurriedly went to the duffel bag to get me and Caroline's clothes, but when I opened the bag, it was empty. Arthur entered the room before I even had a chance to close it. Before heading back to the kitchen, he said, "Ivy already put them in the wash for you." I snatched up my apron and started taking orders and re-filling everyone's mugs as soon as possible. The day passed fast, and before I knew it, Ivy was beckoning for me to come over as she emerged from the kitchen. It's almost three, you've got to get Caroline, my love.

Take this and consume it as you go. She handed me a roast lamb sandwich and a napkin and remarked, "I noticed you haven't eaten since yesterday morning."

"No, Ivy, I'm fine, really. You take care of us enough already." She refused to return it. She answered, "You girls are like children to me, don't be ridiculous," and then hurried around to enter the kitchen. I consumed the sandwich on my way to the school. I did so while glancing up at all the skyscrapers. I adored the city because everything there moved so quickly and was always in motion. I like observing folks bustling about and living their lives.

As soon as I arrived at the school, I waited outside for the bell to sound. Caroline burst through the doors with a huge grin on her face not long after I started waiting. She came straight for me and hugged me with her tiny arms. As we made our way back to the diner, I knelt down, picked her up, and carried her on my hip. She detailed her entire day to me, including her activities in class.

When Caroline returned to the diner, Ivy was already seated in a booth and waiting for Caroline to arrive. Caroline took her books out of her backpack and went to sit beside Ivy. After school every day, Ivy would assist Caroline with her schoolwork and inquire about her day. In preparation for the afternoon rush, I was waiting tables when I suddenly felt eyes on me. While adding more water to Caroline's cup, I looked up, but nobody was there. I pushed the emotion away and returned to the kitchen to prepare the following order.

*LUCAS'S POV *

My Beta Felix texted me after my previous meeting to inform me that the following schedule had been moved to Roy's Diner. The Black Moon Alpha didn't want to meet in my territory, thus it appears to have been on neutral ground. Pussy, I mused as I tucked my phone back into my pocket and straightened my tie before heading to the elevator. When the elevator doors closed, I entered and pressed the bottom floor button. As the floors descended, I watched the buttons.

It halted halfway down and the doors opened. I scowled, irritated. Two women were incredibly gorgeous, one with red hair and the other with blonde hair. The redhead was one of those that I recognized.

Casey belonged to the Pack. A small, stout man from the tech level followed them in, one of whom was a human being I didn't recognize. When they recognized me, they instantly backed away. They bowed their heads and gazed at the ground. "Sorry, boss," the man said. I'm quite sure he went by Caleb. He visited my office to update the computers, and I can still see him there. I activated the door-closing button. Just before the doors were entirely closed, I heard them take a breath.

I fixed my gaze on my 2:30 PM Rolex watch. Shit! I knew I would be late. My Beta was standing in the foyer with my keys in his hand when I got there. He threw them my way. I swiftly threw them back at him after catching them. You drive; I'm not sure where this location is. I went to my black Bentley, got in, and opened the passenger-side window. Just as we crossed the boundary into my Pack's area to the south, I sensed my wolf stirring and attempting to advance. "Magnus, what's wrong with you?" I queried. He remained silent. I could tell he was worried. Maybe having this meeting wasn't a good idea, I mused.

As I felt him pressing on my flesh, I realized that my eyes must have altered because I growled to tell him to stop. The vehicle was stopped at the curb by My Beta. He questioned, "You alright, boss?" My wolf was battling for control as hair began to grow across my arms. The most seductive aroma suddenly hit me at that moment. We had been driven up in front of an elementary school, I noticed when I turned around. I exited the automobile since I couldn't see anyone. Instantly relieved that we had halted, my wolf became calmer.
