Alpha's Chosen Mate

Author: : Geetee
Genre: Werewolf
Arielle felt a chill run down her spine. "An alliance? What kind of alliance are we talking about?" Her father hesitated for a moment, then met her gaze. "An arranged marriage with Alpha Eric Dutch of the Gold Crest Pack."The words hung in the air like a thunderclap. Arielle's heart skipped a beat as she processed what he was saying. "You want me to marry a stranger? Just like that?"Richard nodded, his expression pained. "Eric is not just any Alpha. He's powerful, respected, and his pack is strong. This union could save us." "But, Dad, what about me? What about my life, my choices?" Her voice rose, tinged with desperation. "I know it's not what you envisioned for yourself, but sometimes we must sacrifice for the greater good," he said gently, reaching out to place a hand on her shoulder. "Sacrifice my happiness?" Arielle whispered, pulling away. "Arielle, I wouldn't ask this of you if there were any other way. Please, just consider it," he implored. Arielle sighed "He will be meeting you today, please be of your best character" her father added. Arielle, after her father left her room went out to catch a fresh breath and meet Eric, she walked through the dense woods, each step bringing her closer to the man she was expected to marry. Her mind buzzed with thoughts of rebellion, of running away and leaving it all behind, but she knew her responsibilities outweighed her personal desires

Chapter 1 The arrangement

The late afternoon sun filtered through the window, casting long shadows across the room. Arielle stood by the window, her gaze fixed on the distant treetops, feeling the warmth of the sun but none of its comfort. Her father, Alpha Richard Studs, cleared his throat, breaking the heavy silence that had settled between them.

"Arielle, we need to talk," he said, his voice heavy with the weight of what was to come. She turned to face him, a flicker of worry in her eyes.

"What's going on, Dad? You look... troubled."He took a deep breath, trying to find the right words.

"It's about the future of our pack. We're in a vulnerable position, and the threats from rogue wolves are increasing. We need an alliance."

Arielle felt a chill run down her spine. "An alliance? What kind of alliance are we talking about?"

Her father hesitated for a moment, then met her gaze.

This union could save us."

"But, Dad, what about me?

Her mind buzzed with thoughts of rebellion, of running away and leaving it all behind, but she knew her responsibilities outweighed her personal desires. She arrived at a small clearing, the designated meeting point.

There, she saw him-Eric Dutch, standing tall and imposing, his presence commanding the space around him. His dark hair caught the sunlight, and his sharp blue eyes locked onto hers as she approached.

"Arielle Studs, I presume?" he said, his voice smooth and steady.

"And you must be the infamous Eric Dutch. I hear you're quite the force to be reckoned with," Arielle replied, her tone edged with sarcasm. He raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement playing at the corners of his mouth.

"I've heard much about you as well. Strong-willed, independent."Arielle folded her arms, defiance etched into her posture.

"Yet here I am, expected to marry you.""This isn't about us as individuals, Arielle. It's about our packs, our people," Eric stated matter-of-factly.

"Easy for you to say. You're not the one being handed over like a bargaining chip," she snapped.Eric stepped closer, his gaze unwavering.

"Believe me, I'm not thrilled about this either. But we both have responsibilities." he said

"And what if I refuse?" Arielle challenged, her chin lifted defiantly.

"Then we face the possibility of war. Neither of us wants that," he said, his voice calm but firm.Arielle's resolve wavered as she considered the implications of his words. The weight of her decision pressed heavily on her shoulders.

"I never imagined my life turning out like this."

"Nor did I," Eric admitted. "But we have a chance to make the best of it. To be partners."

"Partners in name only, I suppose," Arielle muttered, turning away.

"For now. But who knows what the future holds?" Eric said, a hint of something softer in his tone.

That evening, Arielle sat in her room, the shadows growing long as the sun dipped below the horizon. Her best friend Jenna slipped into the room, concern etched on her face.

"Hey, I heard about the arrangement. How are you holding up?" Jenna asked, sitting beside her on the bed.

"Confused, angry, trapped. Take your pick," Arielle replied, rubbing her temples.Jenna offered a sympathetic smile.

"I get it, Ari. But maybe this Eric guy isn't so bad?"Arielle sighed, frustration boiling just beneath the surface.

"He might not be, but it's the principle of it all. No choice, no freedom."

"I know, but what if this alliance is what saves our pack? Keeps us safe?" Jenna suggested gently.Arielle leaned back, staring at the ceiling. "I know, I know. It's just... hard to accept."

"Maybe try getting to know him. See if there's more to him than just the Alpha persona," Jenna encouraged.

"It's worth a shot, I guess. Not like I have much choice," Arielle conceded, her voice laced with resignation.

The next morning, Arielle stood in front of her father, determination in her eyes.

"I've decided, Dad. I'll do it. I'll marry Eric."Her father looked at her with a mix of relief and gratitude.

"Thank you, Arielle. You're doing what's best for us all."

"But I'm not doing this blindly. I want to understand who he is, what he stands for," she insisted.

"Of course. Take the time you need. This is a new beginning for both of you," Richard assured her.Arielle nodded, accepting the path laid before her, yet vowing to make it her own.

"A new beginning. Let's hope it's not as daunting as it seems."As she prepared to embark on this unexpected journey, Arielle carried a mix of apprehension and hope, knowing that her life would never be the same.

Chapter 2 Engagement

The engagement happened so soon, Arielle sat in the back seat of the black SUV, watching the trees blur by as they drove deeper into Golden Crest Pack territory. The driver was silent, as was her father, who sat beside her, lost in his thoughts. The reality of her situation settled over her like a heavy fog. She was about to start a new life with a man she barely knew.

"Dad," Arielle said, breaking the silence, "what if this doesn't work out? What if we can't stand each other?"Her father turned to her, his expression somber yet hopeful. "You're both strong-willed, but you're also capable of great understanding. Give it time, Arielle."She nodded, though her stomach churned with uncertainty.

As they arrived at the Golden Crest Pack's main compound, her heart pounded in her chest. The packhouse was a grand structure, its stone façade imposing against the forest backdrop. Members of the pack milled about, pausing to watch the newcomer.Eric stood at the entrance, his expression unreadable as the SUV rolled to a stop. Arielle took a deep breath and stepped out, smoothing her dress and meeting his gaze with determined defiance.

"Welcome to the Gold Crest Pack," Eric said, offering a polite nod to her father before turning back to her.

"I hope your journey was comfortable.""It was fine," Arielle replied, her voice steady.

Her father stepped forward, shaking Eric's hand firmly. "Take care of her, Eric."

"I will," Eric promised, his eyes flickering with something akin to sincerity.

As her father got back into the SUV and drove away, leaving her alone with Eric, Arielle felt a pang of homesickness. She squared her shoulders and faced him.

"So, what now?" she asked, refusing to let her nerves show.

"Let me show you around," Eric suggested, gesturing toward the house. They walked side by side, an awkward silence hanging between them.

The interior of the packhouse was spacious and elegantly furnished, a testament to the pack's strength and status. Eric led her to a large living room, where a fire crackled in the hearth.

"This will be your home now," Eric said, his voice echoing slightly in the vast space. "Feel free to make yourself comfortable."

"Comfortable? Right," Arielle muttered, crossing her arms. "This isn't exactly what I'd call a warm welcome."

Eric turned to her, his gaze steady. "I know this situation isn't ideal, Arielle. But we have to make it work."

"And how do you propose we do that?" she challenged, raising an eyebrow.

"By establishing some ground rules," Eric replied, his tone pragmatic.Arielle scoffed, taking a step closer.

"Rules? Seriously?"

"Yes," Eric said firmly. "We need boundaries if we're going to coexist peacefully."

"Alright, what are these 'rules' of yours?" Arielle asked, her voice dripping with skepticism.

"First, we respect each other's privacy. Second, we present a united front to the pack. They need to see us as partners, even if we don't feel like it yet," Eric stated.

Arielle rolled her eyes but nodded. "Fine. Anything else?"

"We make decisions together, especially those that affect the pack," Eric continued. "And we communicate. I don't want misunderstandings causing unnecessary tension."

Arielle considered his words, surprised by his level-headed approach. "Fair enough. But you should know, I'm not going to just roll over and let you make all the calls."

"I wouldn't expect you to," Eric said, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "In fact, I'd be disappointed if you did."

Later, as Arielle settled into her new room-a spacious suite with large windows overlooking the forest-she found herself thinking about Eric's unexpected candor. Despite her initial reluctance, she had to admit he wasn't quite the tyrant she had imagined.

A knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts. Jenna peeked in, her face lighting up with relief.

"Arielle! I was hoping I'd find you here."Arielle rushed to her friend, embracing her tightly.

"Jenna! I didn't know you were coming."

"I'm here to help with the transition," Jenna said, smiling. "You know, moral support and all that."

"I'm glad," Arielle replied, her tension easing slightly. "I could use a friendly face."

Jenna sat on the edge of the bed, looking around the room. "Not bad. It's actually quite nice."

"It is," Arielle admitted, glancing around. "But it doesn't feel like home."

"Give it time. You'll make it yours," Jenna encouraged.

Arielle sighed, sitting beside her. "I'm trying, Jenna. It's just... everything's happening so fast."

"I know, but you're strong, Ari. You'll figure it out," Jenna said, squeezing her hand.

Arielle nodded, grateful for her friend's support. "I hope so. Eric's... different than I expected."

"Different how?" Jenna asked, curiosity piqued.

"He's not as overbearing as I thought he'd be. He actually seems reasonable," Arielle confessed.

Jenna laughed softly. "See? Maybe this won't be so bad after all."

"Maybe," Arielle echoed, though her heart remained uncertain.

That evening, Arielle joined Eric for dinner in the dining room, a formal affair with several members of the pack present. The conversation flowed around her, filled with talk of pack matters and upcoming events. Arielle observed quietly, noting the respect Eric commanded. As the meal concluded, Eric turned to her, his expression thoughtful. "How are you finding things so far?"

"It's... different," Arielle replied honestly. "But not unbearable."

Eric chuckled, a rare smile touching his lips. "High praise coming from you."

Arielle allowed herself a small smile in return. "I suppose it is."

As they stood to leave, Eric paused, his gaze serious. "Arielle, I know this is all new, but I want you to feel welcome here. If there's anything you need, let me know."

"I will," she promised, appreciating his attempt at goodwill. As they parted ways for the night, Arielle felt a flicker of hope that perhaps this new life wouldn't be as daunting as she feared. While the path ahead remained uncertain, she was determined to navigate it on her own terms, even if it meant clashing with the Alpha at her side.

Chapter 3 Fitting in

Arielle awoke to the soft glow of dawn filtering through the curtains of her room. The birds outside sang in chorus, a sharp contrast to the uneasy tension within her. Today was the first official day as a member of the Golden Crest Pack, and she felt the weight of it pressing down on her. After getting ready, she made her way to the kitchen, where she found Eric already seated at the table, sipping a cup of coffee. He looked up as she entered, offering a nod of acknowledgment.

"Morning," Eric said, setting down his mug.

"Morning," Arielle replied, attempting to keep her tone neutral. She poured herself a cup of coffee and sat across from him. The silence stretched, filled only by the clinking of silverware and the faint sounds of the packhouse waking up.

"So," Eric began, breaking the silence, "I thought it would be a good idea to show you around the territory today. Get you familiar with everything."

Arielle took a sip of her coffee, considering his offer. "That sounds... helpful."

Eric raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his gaze. "You don't sound very enthusiastic."

"It's not that," Arielle said, setting her mug down. "I'm just still adjusting to all of this. It's a lot to take in."

"I understand," Eric replied. "But getting to know the territory is important. It's your home now, too."

The word "home" struck a chord within her, both comforting and unsettling. She nodded, deciding to embrace the opportunity.

"Alright. Let's do it."

The morning was crisp and clear as Eric led Arielle through the vast expanse of Golden Crest territory. The forest stretched endlessly, the trees whispering secrets only they could hear. Arielle walked beside Eric, her senses heightened by the unfamiliar surroundings.

"This way," Eric said, gesturing toward a narrow path that wound through the woods. As they walked, Eric pointed out various landmarks-the training grounds, the river that served as the pack's water source, the open fields where pack gatherings were held. Arielle listened, asking questions here and there, trying to absorb as much information as possible.

"Do you always take newcomers on guided tours?" Arielle asked, half-jokingly.Eric chuckled, shaking his head.

"Not usually. But given the circumstances, I thought it was necessary."

"I appreciate it," she admitted, surprising herself with the sincerity of her words. As they continued, they came upon a hill overlooking the territory.

The view was breathtaking, the land stretching out before them in a tapestry of green and gold.

"Wow," Arielle breathed, taking it all in.

"It's beautiful."

Eric nodded, a touch of pride in his voice. "It is.

We're lucky to have such a place."Arielle turned to him, curiosity piqued. "Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the responsibility? Leading a pack, I mean.""Every day,"

Eric replied without hesitation. "But it's worth it. Our people are worth it."

Arielle studied him, sensing the depth of his commitment. It was a side of him she hadn't expected to see, and it made her wonder what else lay beneath the surface.

"I have to admit," Arielle said, "you're not exactly what I imagined."

Eric raised an eyebrow. "Oh? And what did you imagine?"

She shrugged, a teasing smile playing on her lips. "I don't know. More growling, less talking."

Eric laughed, a genuine, rich sound that echoed through the trees. "I save the growling for special occasions."

"Good to know," Arielle replied, finding herself unexpectedly at ease in his company. As they made their way back to the packhouse, Arielle's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of shouting. They exchanged a glance and quickened their pace, emerging into a clearing where a group of pack members had gathered. In the center of the commotion stood a young wolf, his expression defiant as he faced off against another, older member of the pack.

"What's going on?" Arielle asked, frowning at the scene.Eric's expression darkened as he assessed the situation. "Looks like a challenge. We'd better intervene."

They approached the group, the crowd parting to let them through. The young wolf's eyes widened slightly at the sight of Eric, but his defiance remained.

"Alpha," the older wolf said, nodding respectfully.

"Gavin," Eric acknowledged. He turned to the younger wolf. "What's this about, Caleb?"

Caleb squared his shoulders, determination in his eyes. "I want to prove myself, Alpha. Show that I'm ready to take on more responsibility."

Eric considered him for a moment before speaking. "You've got spirit, Caleb. But there's a time and place for challenges, and this isn't it."

Caleb's gaze flickered with frustration. "But I-"

"Enough," Eric said firmly. "This isn't a fight you can win today."

Caleb hesitated, then nodded, stepping back with a grudging respect. The tension in the air eased, and the crowd began to disperse.

Arielle watched the interaction with interest, noting Eric's authoritative yet fair approach. As the pack members moved on, she turned to him.

"You handled that well," she said, impressed.Eric shrugged, though his expression was thoughtful.

"It's all part of the job. Caleb's got potential, but he needs to learn patience."

"I imagine dealing with challenges is a common occurrence for you," Arielle mused.

"More often than I'd like," Eric admitted. "But it keeps things interesting."

As they continued toward the packhouse, Arielle found herself reflecting on the day's events. She was beginning to see the complexities of Eric's role and the pack dynamics. It was a world she was just starting to understand, and despite her initial reluctance, she was intrigued.

*****

Later that evening, as Arielle sat by the window of her room, watching the stars emerge in the night sky, she couldn't help but feel a sense of cautious optimism. The day had been full of unexpected discoveries, both about the pack and about Eric.A soft knock at the door drew her attention, and she opened it to find Eric standing there.

"Hey," he said, his voice warm. "I just wanted to check in. See how you're settling in."

Arielle smiled, feeling the walls she'd built around herself beginning to crack. "I'm doing okay. Better than I thought, actually."

"Good," Eric said, his gaze steady. "If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to let me know."

"Thanks," Arielle replied, genuinely appreciative. "I will."As he turned to leave, she spoke again, her voice carrying a newfound sense of determination.

"Eric," she said, meeting his eyes. "I know this isn't how either of us planned things, but I want to make it work. For both our sakes."

He nodded, his expression sincere. "I feel the same way. We're in this together, Arielle."

As the door closed behind him, Arielle felt a flicker of hope ignite within her. It was the beginning of something new, something she hadn't anticipated but was now willing to embrace.
