Chapter 1 Call the cops

Chapter 1 Call the cops

TEXAS, UNITED STATE OF AMERICA

The door bell jangled repeatedly. Kiara stepped out of the bathroom and she frowned at the small alarm clock sitting on the bedside drawer. The red light on the clock beeped 10:30 p.m which was already passed her usual bed time. She came home too late because more people had showed up at the salon today. Two of her workers didn't show up at the salon because they had family functions to attend respectively. She had almost regretted giving them two days off from work because their absence was so obvious and there wasn't enough hands to tends to the customers.

Kiara was getting ready to sleep after a long day at the salon and now someone was at the door.

"Who the heck has a plan to destroy my poor doorbell!" Kiara grumbled as she wore her night wear and pulled on the robe and secured it in place with a tight knot. She rushed to attend to whoever was at the door

She swore that the person would hear few harsh words from her before uttering a polite greeting and it didn't matter even if it was her only friend, Lila. She motioned out of the room and made her ways towards the door.

"Who the hell wants to break down my door?!" She screamed out when a loud bang hit the door. No response came from whoever was out there.

Kiara peered through the small gap on the wooden door. Immediately, she recognized the figure standing on the porch. It was her greatest nightmare, Carlos Osvaldo.

"Why...why...is...he...here at this time...of the night?"Kiara stuttered. He is the last person she wanted to see at that moment.

"Kiara, I know you can see me through this goddamn holes! So open up this door while I am still calm!" Carlos gritted.

No, he wasn't calm. Kiara knew it. His voice was clear of annoyance and his words were spiteful. No way, she was going to let him into this house.

Slowly, she started backwards as Carlos banged on the door again. Fear gripped her. "I won't...open it...no..I won't..open it..." She began to tremble.

"Go away, Carlos!" Kiara screamed as a tear strayed down her right cheek.

"Kiara! Open up this damn door! Or I'll be forced to bring it down!" Carlos barked out.

His voice sent terror down her spine. She could imagine how angry he would look just standing out there without getting what he wanted. She knows what he would do to her once she opens up that door.

No doubt, it would end up with her taking several of his punches and slaps just like always. Kiara glanced down at the purple bruises on her wrist and the scar on her palm. He had inflicted most of the injuries on her body and all she ever did was take it all because it was hopeless trying to fight against him or even defend herself. Carlos was strong and she wouldn't dare to say a word or even scream out during the abuse.

All of a sudden, Kiara turned away and ran into the bedroom. She locked the door and went in search of her cellphone. Her only escape route was calling her best friend, Lila. She found the phone on the bed under the pillow and in a hurry she dialed Lila's number.

"Pick up...pick up...please Lila." Kiara begged after the second ring.

She was left with two possible options if Lila doesn't pick up the call. It's either she escape through the window or wait for Carlos to break down all the doors until he gets a hold of her. Thinking about it deeply, Kiara knew the second option meant that it would be the end of her life.

A repeated sound jolted Lila up from the deep sleep. She grumbled and stretch her hand to reach for her cellphone under the second pillow.

'Hello...Kiara.' She picked up after like the fourth ring on Kiara's side.

'Lila...Lila! He is here again. What should...I do?' Kiara said in a tight whisper.

'Who?' Lila sounded like she was sleep-talking.

'Carlos! My husband is here!' Kiara cried out.

'What?!' Lila sat up on the other end abruptly. 'Carlos is back home?! Did he hit you again?!' She questioned frantically.

'No...no...he didn't hit me. But he is still out on the porch...' Her voice trailed off to listen to the bang but everywhere was silent. Did he leave already? She mused.

'That son of a bi**ch!' Lila cursed out loud.

'Save me...Lila. I am so scared of what he would do to me this time.' Kiara's voice pleaded with her best friend.

'Call the cops! Kiara, call the cops! I already made it clear that you should make a report to the police!' Lila rushed out her words as she dashed to the closet.

'I can't do it. He might go to jail if I report him to the police. Or not! Have you forgotten who the Osvaldos are in this town?! Listen Lila, I think he came back home because of my text to file a divorce if he doesn't stop the abuse on me.' She sobbed.

'You did what? Oh my goodness! When did you send it to him?!' Lila demanded.

'Yesterday.' Kiara muttered.

'At this point, I can't fold my hands and do nothing anymore! You have given Carlos enough chances to make things up to you and change for good! I am calling the cops on him! So don't you dare let him into that house!' Lila warned and the line went off.

'No...no...Lila...don't call the cops. I can talk things out with him.'

Silence. Kiara looked at the phone and realized that Lila already disconnected the call. She dialed Lila's number back for about four times.

'The number you dialed is on another call. Please leave a message or call back later.' The auto response boomed over the phone.

"She shouldn't call the...cops." Kiara paced to and fro. Again, she realized that the banging of the door had stopped for quite sometime now.

She walked to the door and unlocked it. Carlos must have left because she didn't open the door to let him in. She thought. Kiara hoped that he already left so that the cops won't apprehend him.

Chapter 2 Life of Kiara Jaden

Chapter 2 The life of Kiara Jaden

TEXAS, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Kiara would have heaved a sigh of relief but she stopped abruptly as soon as she walked into the sitting room. Carlos was there standing by the window. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw that the door was intact.

Carlos came in through the window. "Lucky you, I didn't have to break down the door." He smirked before it was replaced by a devious grin.

Her heart beat accelerated in marathon at the sight of him. "My dear...Kiara." Carlos started towards her while she took a step at a time backwards.

Carlos raised his hand up in surrender. "Relax, I won't hurt you. So just be a good girl, who knows? I might give a very big candy." He shrugged.

Kiara stopped to study his expression. Carlos wasn't sincere so she knew better than trusting his words. All he ever did was manipulate her into believing his words.

"I know you don't believe me but-"

"Why are you here?" Kiara mumbled.

Carlos arched his eyebrows. "You don't remember inviting me over?" He asked.

Kiara was confused. She doesn't remember inviting him over like he claimed.

"You sent me a text. No, it was a threat." Carlos coaxed.

"I am...sorry...Carlos." Kiara apologized immediately she noticed him balling his fists.

Kiara knew she had the weakest resolve in the world. She shouldn't be begging him! She should at least try to defend herself from the abuse and manipulation but she wasn't that kind of woman. She would rather take it all and let him nurse her bruises later with apologies.

"Who has been teaching you how to stand up for yourself?"

And before she knew it, Carlos was standing right in front of her. "How dare you threaten to divorce me?!" He grabbed her jaw. "Have you forgotten how much I have done for you in the last few years?! I made you into who you are today!" He seethed his teeth in anger.

Kiara winced in pains when his hand snaked around her waist and pulled her closer to his body. Her body was trembling as he purred into her ears.

"I own you, Kiara! And no one is going to save you from me. Listen, I am doing nothing wrong. I watched my father do the same to my mother and I know how submissive she would be to him till the day she breathe her last." His right fists met her side and all she did was grab his T-shirt as she tried to not scream out in pains.

"How does it feels? Say to me. Welcome home, Carlos." He chuckled and hit the same spot again.

"I have been trying so hard to stay away from you because I want to change but getting the message only means that you missed the brutal me." Carlos laughed deviously as his fist made another impact on her side again.

Kiara's knees grew weak. Her legs would have given out but Carlos held on to her tightly.

"Is it Lila? Or your stupid bunch of workers?! Tell me! What nerve do you have to send me such a text?! I hate it when you have guts!" His hand trailed up till it stopped at the knot of her night robe.

Kiara regretted her decision. She shouldn't have let Jessica send that text to him. She shouldn't have listened to her best friend or workers encouragement on defending herself. If Jessica hadn't sent the message then Carlos wouldn't be here.

It has been five weeks since he showed up at home. Out of concern, she had called him several times but he never picked up the calls. The only time they had communicated was yesterday when he texted saying he missed her so much.

Jessica was the first to see the message because she was watching a video of a new style of braid on YouTube with Kiara's cellphone. Jessica announced the text and the next conversation was Kiara's workers advising her to put up a tough front and act like she doesn't care that her husband wasn't home.

At that point, Kiara thought it was a good idea and she had allowed Jessica to do the texting.

'If you miss me that much then prove it to me. And I swear it Carlos if you ever hit me again, I will file in for a divorce.'

Kiara's eyes had widened when Jessica read the last message to her. She demanded that Jessica should delete it but it was already too late. Jessica had already sent the text and no response came from Carlos.

"Please...Carlos..." Kiara sobbed silently.

"You wanted to see me so badly so I accepted the invitation." Carlos bit gently on her earlobe.

"No...you should..." Her voice trailed off as she worked up courage to say the next few words.

"I know you want me so badly. I missed you too." He pressed kisses from her neck to the shoulder.

Carlos noticed a large bruise on her shoulder but he chose to ignore it. Her night robe slipped down leaving just the gown on her body.

"The cops are on their way." Kiara blurted out.

Carlos stopped kissing her. He thought that he had heard wrongly.

"You should leave." She mumbled.

Fury crashed over him as he dug his nails right into her bruised shoulder and Kiara screamed out in pains. She tried to snuggled her way out of his hold but it was impossible.

"How dare you call the cops on me?!" Carlos grimaced in anger.

"No! I didn't...please Carlos..."

He pushed her out of the embrace with his hand reaching out to make a hit on her face immediately. Kiara hit the ground hard.

"Damn it! How could you call the cops on me after everything I have done for you?! I gave you everything! The cops? Who the hell do you think you are to call the cops on me? Have you forgotten who I am? I am Carlos Osvaldo! I own half of this town! You are fool to think your attorney friend will help you!" He grabbed her hair and dragged her across the room.

"I'll do more than hurting you physically! I'll destroy every part of your being! Even if I end up in jail, you'll never be happy!" Carlos snarled as he hovered over her.

"Lila called the cops! I didn't do it...I swear." She struggled against him.

"I should have ended Lila's pathetic life a long time ago! I knew she was trouble when she came back into your life!" Carlos grabbed her hands and pinned it over her head.

"Please...leave...Carlos...please.." Kiara begged as she wriggled against him.

The last thing she wanted was for him to get arrested and also go to jail for domestic violence or anything they might want to nail on him. But she doubted it if Carlos would be jailed because of his family's connections.

Carlos punched her and she felt blood in her mouth. The hit had busted her lips. He continued hitting her side with his free hand while his other hand held her both hands in place. She wriggled against him with her legs. Kiara knew his punches had broken her bones. The look in Carlos eyes scared the hell out of her. Kiara was terrified even as she begged him to leave before the arrival of the cops.

Carlos kissed her roughly on the lips as his free hand raised her night gown up. Kiara struggled and tried to resist him but Carlos hold on her was too strong.

"Carlos, please...don't..."

Then she heard it. The siren. Her saving grace. She thought. Carlos stopped his quest to force himself on his wife.

"Damn it! The cops!" Carlos let her go immediately. "I'll come back for you!" He promised before racing out of the house.

Kiara doesn't know if the arrival of the cop was at a perfect time or they shouldn't have showed up at all. She lay on the floor, feeling numb and immobile. Even in that state, broken, bruised and scarred, Kiara still prayed silently for Carlos. She hoped that he got away before the cops caught up with him.

It should be the other way around right? But Kiara still wished her husband well. Tears streamed down her cheeks when she heard the cops.

"Get down on your kneels and hands behind your head!"

She knew those words meant one thing, Carlos has just been caught by the cops.

"Kiara!"

She heard Lila's voice. "Oh my goodness! What did he do to you?" Lila broke down in tears as she touched her.

"Kiara..." Lila helped her to sit up before embracing her. "I am sorry. Please forgive me. I swear...he is never going to hurt you again. I'll make sure he rots in jail." Lila cried as she made series of promises to her best friend.

Kiara felt the cold substance tickling down from her nostril. "Lila..." she whispered.

Lila pulled away to look at her. Blood was tickling from Kiara's nostrils."I'll be...fine." Kiara stuttered.

"No...no...you are not fine! Somebody help!" Lila screamed out.

Kiara became dizzy. And the last thing she heard was footsteps marching in her head like soldiers going to war before her eyes rolled up to the back of her head. And she fell into unconsciousness.

Chapter 3 Existence of a Vampwolf

Chapter 3 Existence of a Vampwolf

THE CELESTIAL IMPERIAL

"Vaewolf, Lycanpire, Vampwolf, Cucubuth. Legends speaks of them being Hybrids. But a Vampwolf has the most history ever written and has been passed down from generation to generation. Not a myth but it is real." She stopped, looking up at the seven years old blonde haired boy who sat in front of her with curious eyes wanting to know more.

"A Vampwolf?" He arched his brows.

She hummed a positive response. "Are you sure you want to read a book like this, Dwayne?"

"Yes mother. Please continue! Please continue!" He pestered.

She heaved a sigh. "A Vampwolf. Half-Vampire...Half-Lycan. But stronger than both. A cross breed deadlier than any werewolf or vampire. Werewolf-Vampire hybrids are the mixture of a vampire and a werewolf. They possess the powers of both species, making them twice as powerful. And-"

"Wow! Mother! Is it really true that the Alpha King is a Vampwolf?!" He asked, a gasp escaping his lips.

She smiled. "Yes Dwayne. He is a Vampwolf."

"I want to be a Vampwolf too...like the Alpha King! Show me! Mother, tell me how I can be a Vampwolf!" He got up to his feet and placed both hands on his hips ready to do whatever.

"Listen Dwayne, not everyone can be a Vampwolf. They are rare species which used to be forbidden in all supernatural societies."

His smile fell as he sat back on the ground with his small legs crossed in Indian style. "But...the Alpha King is a Vampwolf." He muttered.

"The Alpha King was born of an impossible union. His birth was between a pure blooded Lycan prince and a full blooded vampire who also came from a long lineage of witches." She explained calmly.

"Why is it an impossible union?" He asked.

"Hundreds of years ago, it was forbidden that a vampire and a werewolf have any close relations with each other. If it happens, both parents and the child are to be executed immediately." She answered.

"Close relations? That's unfair. So they shouldn't play even as friends?" He pouted.

"When I mean close relations, it is something more than you should know."

"Oh you mean...having sex?!" He blurted out.

Her eyes widened in shock. "Where did you hear that sort of words?"

"Marcellus told me. I saw him kissing Elena the other day and he said they have plans to mate later on." He responded.

She shook her head. "You should stop hanging around Marcel."

"No mother, Marcel is a genius! He helps me out with the works given at the academy. I want to be like him!" He smiled sheepishly.

Maybe later on, she would warn Marcellus to be mindful of what he says and does in the presence of her child. "Dwayne-"

He cuts in. "I am glad executing both parents and the child doesn't work anymore because it saved our Alpha King's life." This time a bright smile grazed the little boy's face.

She shook her head in amazement at her son's words. He might just be seven years old but Dwayne tends to act like he is twice his age. Still, she couldn't comprehend why he chose to read this book; Existence of a Vampwolf.

"Mother, when I grow up, I'll like to be the Alpha King's personal guard. I'll serve as a warrior first and work my way diligently into the Royal Home." He said with so much determination in his eyes.

"And why do you want to serve the Alpha King?" She asked with a furrowed eyebrow.

"The humans." He replied.

"The humans?" She reacted with a confused look on her wrinkled face.

"I'll work twice as hard to gain the Alpha King's trust and convince him to change the tradition. The pets and slaves deserve a better life in our-"

"Quiet Dwayne!" She shunned him.

"Imperial." He completed in a tight whisper.

She set the book aside, stood up from the stool and went closer to him. "You'll speak no more about the humans! You'll speak no more about your desires for liberty! Or do you want the Alpha King to have you beheaded?!" She snapped at him.

Terror filled his eyes and he didn't dared to say a word. "Please Dwayne." She pleaded in a gentle tone now.

"Okay mother. I'll be very careful of what I say." He mumbled, placing a finger on his lips and he did a zipping up gesture.

"That's my boy." She spread out her arms and he moved closer to embrace her.

"Mother, I have to meet Darcel. We promised to play once the sun sets." Dwayne looked up at his mother.

"Alright. Go ahead but don't stay too late. I'll prepare dinner to keep myself busy." She released him from her hold.

"Okay mother! Can I ask Darcel to have dinner with us?!" Dwayne jumped in excitement.

"Yes, that's good! Go now." She handed him the book before he exited the room.

*******************

"Elias, do I have any meeting scheduled with the Alpha King in the next four days?" Darius asked, as he sipped from the goblet filled with human blood.

Elias's finger schemed through the large screen of tablet on his left hand. "No, General. The Alpha King had sent a message earlier this morning stating that he wants to be alone for the next few days. No emergency message as at now." He replied.

Darius looked up at his right hand man. "Any word from Raphel Grayson yet?"

"No credit alert seen yet."

Darius smirked. "He must see me as a fool! If Raphel thinks he can run away from me then he must really be kidding!" He gulped down the last drop of blood. "Since I have a few days off, I guess it's time to say hi to my old client. Get our men ready, Elias!" He slammed the goblet on the table.

"Yes General." Elias turned to leave but soon stopped on track. "What time do we leave?"

"Night fall. And prepare enough to bring in more people to the Imperial. The Alpha King will be pleased to have more human prisoners and I, more blood to fill my belly and quench my thirst." He chuckled deviously.

Elias bowed before turning away to leave the room.
